The Best Boba Shops in NYC

"We go to this popular West Coast mini-chain whenever we need to get out of a boba rut. Boba Guys has two NYC locations with some unique menu options, like the signature layered strawberry matcha latte, dirty horchata boba, and Korean banana milk boba, which uses homemade banana jam as the base. Plentiful oat milk options make this a particularly good choice if you’re a plant-based person. Boba Guys has smaller shops with a modern aesthetic (think white subway tiles and natural wood), and little or no seating—so plan to grab your drink and take it to go. " - molly fitzpatrick, carina finn koeppicus

We ordered a caramel matcha latte & a hong kong milk tea. Both were 1000/10!!! Probably some of the best bubble tea we have had! Would definitely go back and try other drinks!

Google
I have tried giving this place a chance twice, but no matter what I get, the drinks are too watered down and not drinkable at all. I couldn’t even finish half both times. But the employees are very nice and their little trinkets they sell are cute! The drinks are just not even close to being decent.

Google
My all time favorite boba tea space, they cook the best boba in town. Although it’s a bit pricy, but I’ll pay for that once in a while just to have their honey boba! My favorite was the strawberry matcha milk tea with boba! Also I love the design of the store, which was very zen!

Ruby Chan

Google
Sorry to say that but the drinks from Boba Guys were disappointing. All drinks come with boba by default. I don’t like boba so I ordered my drinks without it. Wish they could offer a discount for drinks w/o boba, otherwise the price point is high for a non-boba drink. *Dirty Banana Milk The banana coffee was so bad that I had to return it. It tasted…mysterious. Neither banana milk nor the espresso stood out. It was a weird combination of flavors. Can’t believe this is one of their bestsellers. For similar price ($8+), I’d rather go to Not As Bitter. Their Banana Split is really good and I’m still dreaming about it. *Strawberry Matcha Latte I exchanged and picked their bestselling strawberry matcha this time. Thanks god this was so much better. It looked pretty, tasted not too sweet, while matcha and strawberry purée blending well with one another. However, it wasn’t good enough to attract me for a second visit.

This Boba Guys branch is on the smaller side and does not have any seating available. The service seemed a bit disorganized during peak hours, as our initial drink order was not correct. Nonetheless, the drinks were decent, and we enjoyed the pandan caramel boba with fairly chewy tapioca.

Google
Matcha Lover? The Strawberry Matcha and Caramel Matcha were to die for! Super delicious and comforting. Worth the stop! I saved it for future visits. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Google
They’re back!! Or at least a pop up with limited hours, according to their website. I had enjoyed them prior to Covid and I believe their store is closing although I didn’t follow the soda too closely. This store is small but it seems very smartly set up. I couldn’t help ordering two drinks for myself including to bring home, one black milk tea and one Ube smoothie out of curiosity. I also asked for a last-minute change of toppings when I saw almond jelly was an option and they were able to accommodate. Thanks again!

Google
Enjoyed the drinks! I got the coconut coffee cloud. Prices were normal to competitors and other chain stores.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of the boba guys! I especially appreciate their commitment to high quality ingredients and creative boba flavors. Their Nolita location is small and definitely more of a pick-up-and go-type of spot. I had a hard time ordering because so many things looked good!! I got a recommendation from the staff to try the lychee oolong boba, which was so delicious! The lychee is refreshing and doesn't overpower the oolong tea, providing a nice contrast with some of the bitterness in the tea. Boba was chewy. I would love to go back and try more things on their menu, like the mango sticky rice!

Yelp
Small location with no seats but they have table at window near entrance door you can stand and drink bev. My Korean banana milk tea was delicious and want to come back. In soho but on the verge of almost out of soho territory.

Yelp
It is still one of my favorite boba tea. I used to go to the one in Chinatown, but it was closed during the pandemic. I am glad they are still in business in NYC. This is my first time visiting this location and I am satisfied with their service. It is a small store with merchandise displayed on their shelves. I ordered their manga matcha latte from their Spring season drink. It was perfect. It tasted fresh. I will come back and try the other drinks on their menu.

Yelp
One of the best boba shops I've been to. Plus the owner/manager was super cool. I was wondering how one of the drinks tasted, he made me a sampler, really nice of him. He definitely knows the menu, so don't be afraid to ask questions. Black sugar hojicha is one of the more unique drinks they have available, that you won't find elsewhere, worth a try. HOWEVER, you MUST order the Rose Black, that shit's amazing. Yes it's sugary, but you're at a boba shop (I guess you can make it less sweet...). The rose flavor is amazing, doesn't taste artificial like the Rose from Philz Coffee. The Rose Black is firmly my #1 rose-flavored drink, anywhere.

Yelp
I recently visited Boba Guys and ordered the Black Sugar Hojicha. It was an absolute delight! The drink had the perfect balance of sweetness and earthiness, which made every sip enjoyable. The quality of the tea and boba was evident, and I appreciated the attention to detail in crafting the drink. The bobarista who took my order was friendly and helpful, providing great recommendations and ensuring my order was just the way I wanted it. The shop itself was clean and had a welcoming atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to relax and enjoy my drink. What stood out to me was the fast service. Despite the shop being busy, my order was prepared quickly, and I didn't have to wait long to enjoy my boba. Overall, Boba Guys impressed me with their delicious drinks, exceptional service, and inviting ambiance. I'll definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Not sure why the low ratings.. Boba Guys has been consistent with the quality of their offerings and even with all the different boba shop options, I'm still a fan!
google avatar

Yelp
The strawberry matcha latte is one of my favorite drinks! I always have to grab one if I'm near by. The service is pleasant and quick. Can't say much for ambiance as I'm always in and out quite quickly.

Yelp
I finished my appointments and I was walking in NoHo and to my surprise I see Boba Guys. I couldn't believe my eyes because I really didn't think they would come back here after the ending of the partnership here in the East Coast. But it is back and it might not be ready to attack, since I was surprised why the low rating of my favourite boba place. It gave me pause and when I went home to drink my horchata, I found uneven cooked boba in my drink. There was that was hard and soft and just not thoroughly cooked to be the perfect boba texture. Besides the fact the bubble needs work, the stellar service here gives this place high rating. I also bought their new addition since didn't see the Pandan Caramel or the Banana Milk drink. Didn't try the Pandan, but C said it was good and Banana milk - eh, love the ingredients but just wasn't in love with the flavour profile.

Yelp
I used to live in SF a couple years ago. Boba Guys first location is also in SF. I still remember the long waiting line when they just started in SF. I was very happy when I found they expanded to New York. But after I tried their signature Matcha & Strawberry latte, I changed my mind. Strawberry syrup + low grade matcha. It's a waste of money. As there are many other options out there, I wouldn't come back again.

Yelp
It's hard for me to give Boba Guys anything but 5 stars because they're hands down my favorite boba shop. This location was struggling though. My husband and I tried to get Blueberry Corn Milk and Strawberry Fields. The Strawberry Fields was great as expected. I took one look at the Blueberry Corn Milk and was confused. It looks nothing like any picture I've seen of it or the pictures on the menu. We tasted it and it was very clearly not blueberry. It tasted like their berry hibiscus tea mixed with corn milk and it was not a good combination. We don't like to send things back, but my husband told them it didn't seem right. They actually made the drink for us 3 different times. The customer service was great. Every single time they gave us the same drink, which was very clearly the wrong drink. I don't know if they were out of blueberry puree and trying to pass this off as it or if they don't know how to make the drink. We went to the other NYC location and got the same drink and they made it correctly. I can confirm it is one of my favorite drinks they make, but only if it's made right. That being said, their corporate Instagram account reached out to me after seeing that it was clearly the wrong drink and refunded our order. They also gave us a coupon for our next visit. The drinks and customer service really are fantastic. I'm hoping that corporate is able to get to the bottom of why this location is making the wrong drink.

Yelp
[NYC BOBA TOUR STOP #32] *My other stops on the boba tour: https://www.yelp.com/collection/4dXTAnFqPHD1D8obaInTZw/nyc-boba-tour Welcome back, Boba Guys! But also... maybe not that welcome? Jury's still out, we definitely did not come to a unanimous decision, so old boba guys lovers and new boba guys lovers alike will have to just come back and see for themselves whether or not it's still worth it. Pre-COVID Boba Guys was excellent- it's something all of us can agree on, but it's like when Lucifer comes back from hell in season 5 and is actually Michael (can you tell I just finished watching Lucifer)- something is just a little off about it. We ordered (rating): Strawberry Matcha Latte with Boba (4/5), Strawberry Jasmine with Boba (2.5/5), Dirty Horchata with Almond Jelly (3/5) In pre-covid boba guys times, I tried a lot of different drinks here until I finally tried their Strawberry Matcha, which absolutely changed the GAME for me. The Strawberry Matcha is absolutely the best drink you can get here. And I know I'm saying this extremely confidently as someone who has only had a handful of their drinks, but I mean it. Every other drink (even the ones we had this time) always falls short. The amount that it falls short by differs depending on the drink, but it's always worse. ...And that is the main reason why this review is so mediocre as well. Consistency is so important in a boba shop- you can't just have one drink that stands above the rest. Every single one has to be good in its own way. Boba Guys has a ton of unique drinks (their menu has actually gotten larger since returning), but it's so hard to come here and pay $6+ for something other than the Strawberry Matcha when you have no idea whether or not it'll be good. The other thing that was inconsistent even from drink to drink (which was insane) was the boba. While I found that my boba was good (strong albeit a bit too strong, sweet in itself), my cousin's boba was soggy and bland. My sister found that there was a strange aftertaste from the tea but blamed that aftertaste on the boba. If you come here, get that strawberry matcha. Please.

Yelp
Heard a lot of great things about boba guys - will say that their menu is very enticing and I want to try just about everything on there, unlike most bubble tea spots for me. Bubbles - chewy, good, warm but nothing oustanding but it's hard to stand out with bubbles. It's good enough to be good enough in this regard. BLACK SUGAR HOJICHA My goodness. Not only is this the black sugar boba drink baseline we've grown to love and now expect from boba shops, but what makes this stand out is that the syrup is flavored with hojicha and you get this deep, roasty, nuttiness coating the boba. The drink without the syrup itself is a standard milk tea/latte. Mix it all up and you disperse the hojicha through the rest of the drink but YUM. Will be coming back to try more of their drinks, glad they're back from their hiatus from NYC.

Yelp
I stopped by in the evening for a post-dinner sweet treat. The store is pretty small, so it was pretty crowded. However, I was able to get my drink pretty quickly/ I ordered a strawberry matcha and was disappointed--it was super watery, and I could barely taste the strawberry. The boba was either undercooked or stale, rock-solid and flavorless. On a positive note, the store has compostable straws. Eco-friendly!
google avatar

Cindy Z.

Yelp
First of all, warning to gently open and close the door because it slams really loud! It scared every person who walked into the door. Boba Guys is always a solid to me, especially during my time in SF. The drinks are made with the most authentic ingredients. I ordered the Black Sugar Hojicha ($6). Lesson learned, get this in cold even if you want a warm drink on a cold day. The drink was still good, but all the boba fell to the bottom and it's not as pretty hidden in the cardboard cup. Nonetheless, the drink is still delicious!

Yelp
super expensive mid boba. boba guys in sf is better, go somewhere else in new york, there's plenty other more unique boba spots at the same or lower price
google avatar

Chloe C.

Yelp
FOOD - I mean it satisfies the cravings but that's really it. I'm from California and boba guys is so much better there. strawberry matcha latte - this is my go to drink. it was alright, I can tell they used the same ingredients but didn't make it properly. the strawberry jam didn't blend right w the rest of the drink. the boba was also hard and stuck together PRICE - sooo expensive for what. it was like $9 for a small AMBIANCE - it felt like I was walking into an empty jamba juice and like the workers were just numbingly doing their job, no quality involved. valid bc they prolly don't get paid enough to care, but ultimately this does not even come close to cali boba guys
google avatar

Yelp
Boba Guys has always been one of the top boba spots I go to since the West Coast. I was in the Noho area and decided to stop by this location after brunch. I got my usual drink and it was not as consistent as the one I'm used to at their other locations.
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
I don't know if it's just this location, but I used to go to Boba Guys and drink their stuff like it was water prior to covid. Ever since they reopened several stores back in NYC, I've made the effort to go around and try each one. Boba Guys is literally known for their house grade A+ bobas, however this one was a HUGE disappointment. Their boba this time was so dam mushy and it tasted like when you entered a random janky non-Asian cafes and there was boba on the menu. The drinks tasted as usual but a main part of why I always prefer Boba Guys is their boba. However if it's going to be like this again, then maybe it's time to find a new favorite another boba spot.
google avatar

Amy J.

Yelp
I didn't have any issues with the drinks, but I'm giving one star due to the unpleasant experience with the cashier on March 9th, Saturday, around 4 PM. The employee's rudeness and poor customer service were disappointing. It's important for them to improve their attitude.
google avatar

Shirley H.

Yelp
A solid boba place. We got Strawberry Matcha Latte and Pandan Caramel Matcha. Both drinks are good. One thing I don't like as much is that the boba is a little harder to chew than other boba places. Matcha is good here and the drinks are very instagramable. Since the drinks are not sealed and use lids, it makes it hard to not spill when you order take out and they put them in the take out bag.

Yelp
Dating after a breakup is hard. All the time and money spent trying to get to know someone new. This is how i'm feeling with the return of Boba Guys to NYC. I used to be a regular. The employees knew me. I had my favorite drinks. It was great! Having taken a 2 year hiatus from the city, Boba Guys has finally come back with their first location in Soho and now this location in Nolita. I knew what I wanted since I actively stalk bobaguys IG page. I previously added an e-giftcard to my phone number, which all other locations in the bay area and the soho location were able to find. I told them that it was attached to my number and the manager came and straight up said it was not possible. I explained to him that all other locations were able to do it. He tried for a bit, and then with the biggest amount of sass told me it was not possible. Ok whatever. I can pay with credit. While waiting to get my drink, one of the employees went to ask the manager if there was more toilet paper for the restroom. He brushed her off and said things like "fantastic, okay, sure". She was so perplexed. She was like uhhh should I buy some more? Do we have any? His response was "yeah yeah i'll get to it." I looked at her with so much confusion. For boba guys management - you might want to consider some retraining. You just had bad PR with inappropriate management in the bay *cough cough* Anyways, this is more of an employee health and sanitation issue. Back to the drink! I ordered the new blueberry corn milk drink. Apparently it's inspired by Peruvian and Korean staples with a "midwestern twist" made with corn lol. After mixing it well, it was really disappointing. The blueberry taste was as subtle as the fruit in a le croix. For $10 for a large with boba and jelly, I was crying. The boba was legit though - bless the lord! As a Boba Guys fanboy - I WILL BE BACK (since this is the closest to my apartment *sadface*) I hope boba guys management looks into this manager who was the most unfriendly person I have ever experienced in any store. So happy that's theres legit boba in the area cause i'm sick of all these basic chains! Welcome to the hood! **I'll probably increase my rating as I visit again and the attitude of the manager improves**

Yelp
This is Boba Guys 2nd location in NYC! Their first location on Greene St. opened in the spring. This location opened quietly a few weeks ago in the heart of Soho, and they are still in their soft opening, with these hours: Mon-Tues: Closed Wed-Sun: 12pm-6pm I got their Matcha Latte, Medium, with boba ($6.70, nothing out of the usual price wise with inflation going around). I really appreciate that they use bamboo straws, they are more natural to drink from and much sturdier than Boba Guys' counterpart: Lazy Sundaes, who uses paper straws. This location is more convenient to get to than Greene St., and theres a steady flow of people because there are not too many boba places in soho. Service is good, theres no seating inside but its more spacious than their Greene St. location and has a bar table by the window. Will definitely be going back. Attaching their current menu (7.2.22) for reference!

Yelp
Boba guys was both unpleasantly and pleasantly surprising in different ways. -When I entered the store and saw signs flaunting "American-made" this and "Made in USA", I was a little bit worried. I thought that meant either they're just copying pearls from Asia and it will be worse, or they are just importing pearls from somewhere in America and not making them in-house. Whichever they meant, the pearls themselves were actually the best part of the drink (solid 4/5 for me). It was just everywhere else that I think boba guys could've done better on. Jasmine Milk Tea - Jasmine could've been stronger. I prefer when the jasmine flavor matches the sugar of the drink, but it lost out even with 75% sugar. I asked for no ice, but received a drink filled to the brim with ice. I then asked them to remove it and she refilled it, but that whole exchange shouldn't have been necessary. The employee who had to deal with me seemed slightly annoyed. 3.5/5 Strawberry Matcha Latte - Loses significant flavor over time. Strawberry is strong in the beginning but fades away quickly. The flavor at the beginning is good. It doesn't really escape the identity of latte. Tastes starbucks-esque. Great presentation though. 3.5/5 Other things: +Eco friendly straws -Straws are impossible to cleanly get into the tea with their lids. Owners/managers reading this...please look into a different lid/cup design if you can. Whenever I see these lids, it strikes me more as a college student experiment than an official brand. I'Milky suffers from this same issue. +Customizability: it's nice that they are friendly to allergies with different milk types

Justin U.

Yelp
Tried it once before and remember it being extremely overrated and my belief stands. The milk tea was tasteless and boba was not super fresh. The matcha strawberry was pretty decent but probably not worth the trip to get it. Limited seating.
google avatar

Sophia Z.

Yelp
I've never tried boba guys so I decided to get the most popular drink. I actually really enjoyed it, but it was definitely on the pricier side
google avatar

Johnny L.

Yelp
I came here with my friend on a Sunday afternoon in search of a drink. I got the Berry Hibiscus and my friend got the Strawberry Jasmine. It was pretty refreshing and sweet. It was fairly empty when we arrived, but a queue quickly formed after we placed our orders. No seating available indoors!

Kato M.

Yelp
the jasmine green is delish and honestly so is most of the drinks. but the curly haired girl with glasses is so fucking rude and condescending? it made me feel horrible
google avatar

Cynthia Z.

Yelp
It was okay. First time trying boba here after numerous hot drink orders at another location... my boba however tasted like straight up almond milk with some green tea powder. The tapioca was okay too... more on the firm side. All in all, it was just okay...
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
This place is so mid. I was honestly excited to try it for the hype lol. I visited the one in San Francisco a long time ago and I thought it was okay, didn't really remember much so I just stopped by. I ordered the Horchata & it was pretty good, hence the two stars. The flavor was sweet and light on the cinnamon which was nice. My friends had ordered tea drinks as well however they were incredible watered down. The flavors of the tea were not as strong as we would've liked & you can honestly get better at other boba shops.
google avatar

Raquel C.

Yelp
10/10 I had the Ubay and coconut cream boba OMGGGGGG I literally forgot about this until I was looking thru my pictures and saw it in a selfie. I had to come back to leave a review!!! Best DRINK I've ever had not just boba

Nas B.

Yelp
The service is phenomenal and you never really have to wait too long for a drink. The drinks are not like your typical boba shop but they offer a lot of good quality options.

Duy N.

Yelp
Charged me for a drink when I was in Chicago. Went in today with an online order, waited so long even though they said it was ready for pick up. Turned out they didn't have the ingredients for my drink, and they didn't even think of notifying me about it Also the manager almost STEPPED on me. Hello!??? I'm a fan of Boba Guys Bay Area but I won't come back for Boba Guys NY anymore.

Ray G.

Yelp
The drinks here taste like that disgusting bitter herbal medicine I had to drink as a kid. I got the hibiscus mint tea and honestly, I would pay someone to drink it for me so it doesn't go to waste. I very rarely give 1 stars but here you go

Mikhail K.

Yelp
Did not have straws when I went. Impossible to drink the $9 boba we got... Wish they told this first to the dozens of customers there purchasing boba that were subsequently disappointed.

John P.

Yelp
Giving this place even 1staris too much! Absolutely the worst tea I have ever had. I ended up throwing it away and went for a real bubble tea elsewhere and the young woman making the tea had a bad attitude for whatever person reason she was experiencing. Don't spread your negativity towards customers. Overall awful!!

Yelp
whenever i go to new york, i immediately go to boba guys. the strawberry matcha latte HITS DIFFERENT BRO. it's super duper ooper EPIC. you guys don't understand. usually, whenever i drink things, i savor the taste of it. but whenever i drink the strawberry matcha, it's gone in like 0.02658 seconds. guys, every time i drink it, i die in pure happiness. anyway that's all. buh bye bootiholes!!!!!

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
I love boba guys in SF. However, I strongly advise against getting their boba delivered from this location. My friends and I attempted to get several orders of boba delivered to our office with disastrous results. 1) their boba drinks are not sealed properly- just flimsy Saran Wrap and a plastic cover over it- there were several accidents with one incident involving the delivery person spilling most of the drinks before it even got to us and another spilt all over our office floor- the bag was clearly dripping when it got to us. It took 3 attempts on the first day to deliver all drinks correctly and that took 4 hours. 2) On the second day, our drinks had spillage And came without straws. When we tried to reorder it a second time And specifically called them to provide straws, it still came without them. It's impossible to drink boba without boba straws, so I'm confused as to why it was packed to be delivered without them. We finally had to take an Uber to another boba stall to pay them for 10 straws- this whole drama took 3 hours. Overall a very bad customer experience- esp for a drink that costs $8+ each. Hopefully the walk- in service is much better- as it is in SF.

Lulu A.

Yelp
Agree with a bunch of the previous reviewers. Pre Covid Boba Guys, GREAT. Also Boba Guys in Bay Area, CA, GREAT. For some reason Boba Guys in NYC is inconsistent. Sometimes the drink is just off and the boba has been sitting around too long or something and they're too hard. I'm getting older and my body can't handle daily boba drinks anymore (calories, sugar) so when I do get one, you gotta make the calories worth it, ya know? Also, they can't get the lids right. The current lids are not stroller friendly. Put it in the cup holder even unopened and half way down the block 1/3 of the drink has spilled out. I'm rooting for you Boba Guys! CONSISTENCY IS KEY.

Jean P.

Yelp
Delicious and friendly staff, will definitely return. One of the best milk teas in NYC for sure

Anabella H.

Yelp
i asked them to make me one thing and they gave me something else and when i asked if they could make it again because it wasn't what i ordered they started to raise their voice at me and then i got sad and then i just said oh ok and left bc i didn't feel like arguing and i threw it out at the place next door
