Where to Find Chicago’s Best Pizza Slices | Eater Chicago

"This unique floppy thin-crust pizza has begot a mini-chain, and “Pilsen-style” pies made with Old Style. Diners can find three options: pepperoni, cheese, or wild mushroom. The Pilsen and Hyde Park locations offer slices every day, while the Old Town and Evanston locations offer them on Saturdays and Sundays." - Brandon Summers-Miller

Pizza was umm very good. The size of the pizza is huge. Order with care though one can box the leftovers. Even garlic sticks were good. They say 3 pcs in plate , actually one gets 6 slices. So order but be aware. Must go if one is in Hyde park. Real good pizza. Not heavy on stomach too One negative point is their unkempt bathrooms. No tissue roll inside etc. but this can be checked first n one can request them for the same.

OK… so going to give you some real thoughts here. Chicago is doing way more than just 30lbs of deep dish. Bob’s Pizza is RIDICULOUS! This is one of the best Pizza I have ever had… and that includes Italy, NY and ChiTown DD! It is almost as good as mine out of the backyard wood fired oven. Seriously, we all need to stop comparing Pizza and trying to decide which is best! If you get a great pie made with creativity, great ingredients and love! You have the best pizza in front of you in that moment! Doesn’t get any better than that! Bob’s in Hyde Park was fantastic. Great specialty pizza and the crew was amazing! Crust was Phenomenal!! Ty has her crew humming with Ish delivering great service. Very casual and comfortable vibe… and let’s be honest… great tunes! Thank you! So many great Resteraunt’s in the area… but don’t leave without trying Bob’s Pizza.

The service was unrushed, which is a charitable way of putting it. But they got the job done correctly and pleasantly. The dining area is functional, but nothing exceptional. The food was fantastic. The beer battered curds were really delicious and unique. The pizza exceeded my expectations. The crust was neither thick nor thin but had a combination of fluffiness and crunch that would be hard to beat. We tried the chicken sausage style, and it was great. I don't normally like pizza, but I liked this pizza.

Had a great experience last night at Bob’s Pizza in Hyde Park. Our waitress (Omawale) was top notch with her customer service and the food was delicious. We had the pickle pizza, cheese curds, and meatballs. Portions were plentiful and the drinks were great as well. We had the Lavender Fizz and the pineapple margarita. Yum! 😋

Google
This is such a great addition to Hyde Park! We’ve gone to Bob’s several times now and have tired almost every pizza they have. Every one we’ve gotten has been great! They have unique pizza options that are so good and even the classic options like pepperoni are executed so well. My favorites are the Bob Kim (pictured - sad that it’s limited time because it is so unique and delicious!), Spinach Pesto & Stracciatella, The Original Pickle Pizza (pictured), and Pepperoni. The pepperoni is also great when you add the garlic honey on top. But truly, it’s hard to pick favorites because they’re all very good. The cocktails are very tasty too, with several frozen options that are refreshing. I think the drink options will cover many preferences. For example, if you like sweeter cocktails they have a frozen Irish Coffee Milkshake that’s great and if you like more refreshing or tangy cocktails they have a frozen French 75 and Lavender Fizz. Of course they also have some beers and wine. I used to not order much food beyond the pizza since that is filling already, but after trying the Garlic Parmesan & Herb fries, and the Hot Blue Cheese & Scallions fries, it’s hard not to get them every time (both fries pictured). They’re delicious and only $7! That’s fairly cheap for an appetizer in my opinion. I think it’s also really nice that you can get 1/2 and 1/2 pizzas and get to try more flavors without having to order a full pizza of each one. They also have that amazing Happy Hour deal during the week where you can buy one pizza and get another free. Also, the prices of the pizza are very reasonable to me. I thought at first I might be overspending, but really two slices is very filling and my boyfriend hasn’t been able to eat more than three slices at a time. So even though it’s thin crust, you really get a full and satisfying meal. I’ve never ordered anything from here that I didn’t enjoy a lot! Dine in, takeout, and delivery have all been great for us - the pizzas hold up well. Aside from the food, the place itself has a great atmosphere and is painted/decorated really cool. The service is also great. The servers are very kind and attentive! I hope more and more people discover Bob’s because it’s an all around great place to dine and I hope it stays in Hyde Park for a long time!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bob’s Pizza in Hyde Park is hands down one of the best spots in the city! 🍕 From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed like family. Ty and Brandy are absolute gems — friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about making your visit special. Ty has a way of remembering faces and making sure your order is just right, while Brandy brings such warmth and energy that you can’t help but leave with a smile. On top of the amazing service, the pizza is next-level — perfectly crisp crust, fresh toppings, and flavors that keep you coming back. If you want great food and even better people, Bob’s in Hyde Park is the place to be. Big thanks to Ty and Brandy for making every visit special. Danny & Carla Tampa florida

My friend and I decided to give Bobs pizza a try. I will say the owner was super friendly! I will say the service was slow but, that was due to the event that happened during the day and he was short staffed. I will say the cheese curds were one of the best I have had! And the wild mushroom pizza was legit one of the best I have had!

Google
By far the best pizza I've had in Hyde Park. We got the pickle pizza and the pepperoni and they were both delicious. The crust was so good. The cheese curds were also delicious, as were the brussels sprouts. It's a bit pricey, but if you order between 4 and 5 Monday through Thursday they do BOGO for pizzas! This makes it a fantastic deal. This is definitely going to be my go-to place for pizza night.

Yelp
Got a slice of the wild mushroom pizza and the fish and chips. The fish and chips were too much for one person, but the sauces, fish, and chips were great! I got the house hot sauce. The hostess/server was really nice and attentive! Highly recommend

Yelp
[FOOD] I've been getting their 6 dollar pepperoni slices and it's a good quick bite. Their pizzas slices are thin, crispy, and big too. The pepperoni is also nice and crispy mmMMmm. [SERVICE] Standard. [PLACE] Located in the corner of Harper Court. The restaurant itself is nice and modern. [VERDICT] I work close by so the pizza slices are perfect when I want a quick bite.

Yelp
3/16/2023--Just ok is the only thing I can come up with. I tried the chicken sausage pizza. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the meat. The price point was questionable, given the aforementioned, and there's only one topping. Our server was really nice, which was honestly the best part. They appeared to be short staffed given the fact the tables weren't clean. The grace in me wants to say I'd try this place again, but given the plethora of dining options in this area, I can't say that I would. There's metered parking and a parking lot nearby. The hours listed on Yelp (listed as closed) were different than those on Google. We called first to be sure they were open.

Yelp
Love this place. Bobs pizza is pretty new to hyde park, and is located in Harper court. The pizza here is delicious- my personal favorite is the chicken sausage pizza, which comes with a drizzle of honey on it, a unique topping that hits the spot. The cheese curds here are the best I've ever had- and that's not an overstatement; have to try it! It's the perfect mix of lightly sweet and savory, perfectly crispy on the outside and melty on the inside. Great happy hour deals here as well!

Yelp
Met "bob" himself. Jk his name is Matt, the founder of Bob's pizza. This is his rth spot that just opened in February 2023 Bob's is famous for his pizza dough that has beer in it, with an amazing malt taste. He started the restaurant 5 years ago and Invented this "Pilsen style" pizza. Absolutely delish His favorite cocktails on the menu : fresh Orange Tang with rum, mulled wine , and old fashioned Had the best time making Bob's famous pickled pizza with (non-profit org) @culinarycare provides restaurant cooked meals to cancer patients & their families. It's always a tough time, and being able to have nutritious and delicious meals can really make or break your experience ‍This event is a corporate sponsored "cook-off" where employees can form groups of 4-5 to compete on the same dish with each other Super fun & educational & all for a great cause. Matt wanted to make something different out of stubbornness He tried pickled pizza once and thought it would work well with Chicago! Made with cold fermented dough of 630g shaped to 16inches Add: - olive oil (with the mini broom ) - garlic cream - ham - 3 types of cheese - thinly sliced pickles - fresh dill - salt, pepper, & fresh herbs for finish Make sure to get their wings, calamari, & pepperoni pizza too! Yelp
Great location. Great food. Great drinks. Great service! I finally had the chance to dine at Bobs pizza and it was excellent. So far, I've tried the pepperoni pizza and the mushroom pizza and both were delicious. I tried the lavender fizz since I enjoy vodka, it sounded like a great choice. It's made with lavender syrup, lemon juice, soda water and fresh basil. It's so pretty and refreshing! The restaurant is decorated so nicely and the staff ja very friendly. You can get a slice of pizza from 11am to 4 pm daily. They offer happy hour Monday through Thursday from 4-5 pm where if you buy one pizza you get one free. What an awesome deal!!! Check out Bobs pizza in Hyde Park for some amazing food and drinks!

Yelp
I stopped by on a food tour around 2 PM and it was pretty empty and quiet at first. I tried the wild mushroom pizza. I gotta admit, I usually don't like mushrooms but this pizza was delicious. The balsamic added a sweet twist to a savory bite. Mark, the owner, was also super sweet! We chatted with him a bit about the ingredients he used and he was happy to answer any questions we had.

Yelp
Really love this place for pizza! HUGE slices, quality ingredients. Can't go wrong with pizza from Bob's!

Yelp
I tried it and it was tasty. I'm impressed the owner put together a special for his loyal customers. I was able to taste various entries for a good price. I was able to purchase a value meal to introduce my colleagues. They were impressed too. They will want to introduce their friends to the flavorful meal.

Yelp
Love the New York style pepperoni pizza. The crust is crispy, and when I noticed the air pockets in it, I was in pizza heaven!

Yelp
Ahh! This used to be Native Foods, remember that? This is the fourth location. I have only been to the Evanston location. This location is a full-size restaurant. The Pilsen location is only dine-in, carryout, delivery and BYOB. The Old Town location is only carryout and delivery. The staff and service is fantastic. PS. Soft opening 'til further notice & liquor license TBA any day.

Yelp
I'm excited to have this place in the neighborhood, so I'm not going to say anything too negative, but I will confess that the pizza here doesn't quite do it for me. Some of the topping combos are quite well done -- like the pickled onions on the sausage pizza -- and I'm still going to try some of the more exotic options. But I don't love the famous crust and my kids refuse to eat even the cheese pizza. This last point is no knock on Bob's, as my kids' palates are not a reasonable metric, but it does diminish Bob's' ability to fill the "pizza" spot in my current life. Next time I'll probably start exploring the sandwich/sides/salads portion of the menu, which looks promising.

Yelp
Nice slices of pizza. I had the pepperoni and wild mushroom. Crust, toppings and cheese were solid. Service was quick and friendly. Described as Pilsen style but very similar to a New York pizza. Parking in the area is difficult.

Phil M.

Yelp
Chicken pizza was great. Garlic Parmesan Wings weren't the best. Needed a tad more flavor but I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Should have known at 7:30 on a Thursday with no one in the place that it wasn't any good. No kids menu, can't by pizza by the slice. So we got a large cheese pizza bc that's all my kids would eat. No breadsticks either. Would rather have Digiorno from the grocery store. Fountain cokes were terrible as well. Expensive beers. Won't be back.

Tasha F.

Yelp
It is very hard for a Hyde Park restaurant to get five stars. My friend calls it the "Hyde Park Effect". Something is always missing, be it the food, service, or consistency. I will say we went on a Thursday at about 1:30. No students around. The pizza was AMAZING. It was more like Neapolitan. We tried slices, which are available until 5pm, then wished we had split a pie so that we could have leftovers. The fried pickle chips were to die for. They are like chips, thinly sliced served with ranch. The fries were delicious, my peach mule was exemplary. They have a buy one get one free for whole pies from 4-5 M - Th for happy hour. I will return.

Yelp
Delicious pizza but strange and unconventional flavors... would eat here again, it's delicious, but the flavors are just not something you'd expect a traditional pizza to taste like. It's basically gourmet versions of traditional pizzas with odd spices and a weird tangyness. However, the pizza is fresh and yummy.

Tony S.

Yelp
Pizza was overcooked and somewhat cold fries were soggy like a babies diaper and the wings hardly had any sauce it was the hot wings and the staff wasn't friendly seemed angry and I hear the cooks complaining but I won't be back wasted trip to Hyde park I'll go back to Vito and nicks where they know pizza

Yelp
This review is based on comparing the other local pizza joints in the area. Beggars pan is very unique. Jets is also unique because it's a different type of pan pizza (Detroit style). Italian Fiesta in my opinion is real Chicago pizza, very thin sliced. All 3 sell slices, all 3 will give you a better bang for your money. Bobs prices compare to Giordano's and Medici but can't compare it's quality. The ambiance of Bobs is cool. They serve booze and are located in the "middle of it all"

Yelp
I've been to this location several times and I've also gotten their food delivered. It's always been delicious. The pizza crust is different (made with old style I believe) but one of my favorite things is the crust. I get the pickle pizza made vegetarian most of the time, but I've tried others and they were all good. I also really love their Brussels sprout salad.

Norm C.

Yelp
I must say the name is simple, so I wasn't expecting much. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza was really good, our waiter Mario was outstanding. He gave us a very thorough explanation of the menu. The different pizzas and drinks on the menu were clearly explained, and he gave his honest option. It was a nice relaxing vibe as well! We're definitely going back for a few more slices.

Yelp
They have one of the best happy hour deals in Chicago! Mon-Thu from 4:00pm-5:00pm, pizzas are buy 1 get 1 free! Their specialty pizzas are a steal at this price. We've tried the mushroom, meatball, chicken sausage, and spinach specialty pizzas and they're all great! And they're not a small size either. I definitely recommend picking up a pizza from here!

John K.

Yelp
Talk about downhill fast. This place is not the worst in the area, but it's waaaaaay too expensive to be so hit or miss. My students prefer dominoes which I used to scoff at, but to be honest I'm close to agreeing with them. The difference in price is massive; the difference in quality should be too. 5 stars when they first opened, 3 now. Maybe I'll update again if I come back.

Mark N.

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. First off, the crust. Not NY, not Chicago, not flatbread. It's its own beast, but crisp and delicate and amazing. We had a half and half, with the Spinach Pesto & Stracciatella on one half and the Pickle pizza on the other half. They were both outstanding (the pesto pizza had the arugula and cheese added after the oven, keeping everything perfect), but the pickle pizza was a revelation. They make their own pickles, and the whole effect was breathtaking. We also had the fried pickle starter, and if you've ever had fried pickles and thought, "What's the big deal?" try again. These were far and away the best fried pickles I've ever had. I'm a New Yorker so I'm sniffy about my pizza, but Bob's were spectacular. Maybe the best pizza I've ever had. Add in the excellent service, and Bob's is a can't miss restaurant. You'll be happy you went.

Jessica J.

Yelp
Best Margherita pizza we have ever had! The space is so cool, and the music is on point.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
An exciting new pizza spot in Hyde Park! The pizza is amazing and somehow the appetizers are even better. The beer battered cheese curds are a must order, and the fried pickles come in a unique super thin cut. The portions are also extremely generous. 2-3 people can easily share a single pizza.
google avatar

Rosalind N.

Yelp
I'm from Michigan and I've been searching for this type of pizza in Chicago. So happy I found this place.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
We have visited twice and have had great experiences both times. First visit was around 8 pm on a weeknight after a school band concert. Several other HP restaurants turned us away as they were closing for the evening. Bob's staff was happy to see us! Second visit was this evening. Great cocktails, friendly service, and we enjoyed the Brussel sprout salad and the chicken sausage pizza. Please support this restaurant! HP needs more options like Bob's Pizza!!!!!
google avatar

Sheila N.

Yelp
I love the pickle pizza. They closed the Bob's near me but Pilsen delivered quickly.

Yelp
As a TRUE Chicagoan, Pizza Head, and Foodie (who's lived in other states and travels often), I am always excited to try new restaurants......especially when they're located in my neighborhood (Hyde Park). So as you can imagine, a NEW Pizza joint in Hyde Park.....I had to indulge. As you can see by my review rating, I was underwhelmed and highly disappointed. I ordered a chicken sausage pizza with black olives, jalapeños, and green peppers. Crust: This crust gave a bad name to NY Style. The most memorable thing about it was the meal that accumulated in the box. Sausage: the worst part of the pizza was the processed chicken sausage that looked more like cut up hot dogs. YUK! Sauce: The pizza sauce tasted like canned tomato sauce mixed with ketchup. Way too sweet and too much of it. The good thing is that I can say that I've tried it and don't ever have to try it again. There are TOO MANY great pizza spots in Hyde Park and throughout Chicago (Shout out to Lou Malnati's!) for me to eat at BOB's Pizza!

Lisa W.

Yelp
Bob's Pizza never disappoints. Their iconic large slices seem to have shrunk a bit but it's delicious all the same. My very favorite is the mushroom pizza. The combination of the mushrooms with the Brie & balsamic vinegar is divine! Great addition to the neighborhood. The only reason for the dock in stars is bc I believe the price point for whole pies may put some customers off, especially since there are other less expensive options in the area.

Dee R.

Yelp
The pizza was delicious I truly enjoyed the cheese pizza, the atmosphere is totally great. I love the gold and red trim, my silver Mario was phenomenal, his hospitality and service made the experience great. Service was super fast and the drinks were amazing. I will definitely be coming back. Hot and cheesy

Yolanda H.

Yelp
Our Server Sheena was phenomenal! She had us SOLD on her presentation & knowledge of the menu & recommendations. First time trying Bob's Pizza and it was delicious. The Bob Kim's pizza was AMAZING & the Pickle pizza was a delicious surprise. We enjoyed the baked goat cheese and classic fries. Although, we were full to the max we couldn't resist the recommended dessert (cream pie). Sheena's customer service supercedes the food but the food is just that high quality. We will be back again & again.

Robert B.

Yelp
Ordered a pepperoni pizza for delivery on opening day. The crust was fine but the large slices are crisp on the edge and bottom but so thin and limp in the center that you have to use a knife and fork to eat them. The pizza was tasty but kind of greasy, and the fresh basil would have been a welcome addition. but it was put on too soon as it got black and dried out. Suggest the cooks add it when the pizza is almost finished baking. The Pilsen Bob's Pizza had great Italian beef sandwiches. Hope the Hyde Park Bob's Pizza will follow suit.
