17 Bars Where You Can Bring Your Own Food - New York - The Infatuation

"Another BYOF option on the Upper West Side, Bob’s Your Uncle is a little bit bigger than Dive 75, and it feels slightly less like the home of several 20-year-olds who might own lava lamps. It’s just a big open room with brick walls and a shuffleboard table, and it’s perfect for when you just want a normal place for a low-key drink. They also serve jello shots, which are technically food - but the appropriate move is to go to Saiguette (half a block away) and pick up a banh mi." - bryan kim, matt tervooren

Where To Day Drink In Winter - New York - The Infatuation

"Bob’s Your Uncle has two things we truly appreciate: board games and jello shots. So if you’re looking for something to do at 2pm on a Saturday, know that you can have a very good time here. The space is pretty plain, with brick walls and wooden tables, and it’s a perfectly good place to kill some time with a couple of friends on the Upper West Side, especially during Happy Hour (weekdays from 2-7pm)." - bryan kim, matt tervooren

The 18 Best Bars On The Upper West Side - New York - The Infatuation

"If you’re with a few friends near the northern end of the Upper West Side, and you’re looking for a very normal bar where you can hang out for any length of time and down inexpensive drinks, go to Bob’s Your Uncle. It feels like a big, slightly divey rec room, with brick walls, a shuffleboard table, and photos of various people named Bob on the wall. They also have jello shots, so you could eat colorful, gelatinous alcohol for dinner. Or just make use of the bring-your-own-food policy." - will hartman, bryan kim, neha talreja, matt tervooren

Bob’s Your Uncle - Review - Upper West Side - New York - The Infatuation

"If you’re with a few friends near the northern end of the Upper West Side, and you’re looking for a very normal bar where you can hang out for any length of time while you have some inexpensive drinks, go to Bob’s Your Uncle. It feels sort of like a big, slightly divey rec room, with brick walls, a shuffleboard table, and photos of various people named Bob up on the wall. They also have jello shots, so your night here can either be very tame or full of colorful, gelatinous alcohol." - Bryan Kim

Your Ultimate Guide to St. Patrick’s Day in New York City | Eater

"A 2018-refreshed, quirky hole-in-the-wall with an approachable yet upscale rotating beer list, friendly bartenders, a wall showcasing famous “Bobs” (e.g., Bob Marley, Bob Barker, SpongeBob), and a cocktail menu with a section devoted to mules. It offers a quieter, convivial dive-bar experience where you can have a conversation over the music instead of joining the citywide green-beer frenzy." - Vox Creative

My favorite bar near home! The staff is great, they have board games and shuffleboard, and their beers are top notch! I love going there at least once a week to see the different beers on tap. I brought my sister once here and she loved the Snow White cocktail. We came in during happy hour on Tuesday a while ago and the bartender was super sweet! Made her a cool custom cocktail that she enjoyed. It’s also bring your own food, which is great! Can bring it in or have it delivered. Bob’s will always be my comfort spot for a beer. Also spent new years there, great vibe! My boyfriend also did mention that they once played Akira on the projector. Incredible!

I love this place!!!! I live across the street and have visited on and off since moving to NY. Then I saw a sign saying they were having a trivia night!!! I was soooo excited! I used to do trivia nights in college with my friends (team name the Brainiacs), and I missed that! I started going to Josef’s trivia nights and had so much fun! I loved the atmosphere, and the bartenders, Alex and Chelsea, made me feel safe and at home! Even when men come up to you and ask if “you come here often,” when you’re just focused on trivia questions. I am here for the fun of trivia nights and the safety of being close to home! Treated like family is a very accurate calling card for this place! 10/10 Recommend!

Bob's is a bit of a legend in my friend group. It's a proper neighborhood bar. Good tap selection, standard liquor options, dim lighting, cozy seating, sports on the projector... It fits the bill of the "third place" that is often hard to find elsewhere in the neighborhood. Bob's is just far enough away from Columbia that it doesn't get slammed with undergrad students. Patrons tend to be locals and older Columbia graduate students or veterans. A comfortable spot that I frequented while in school and now a place I get to visit when I'm back in town.

Google
Great vibe, fun atmosphere, also love the Chokey 😉 Alex is a fantastic bartender! Great drinks and even better conversation!

Google
Nice local bar! Has cheap beer and board games in the back (might have to look around for all the pieces)

Google
Neighborhood spot with nitro left hand milk stout on tap. One of my absolute favorite beers that has been harder to find the last few years. Projector for sports ball and shuffleboard are also a huge plus.

Google
Bob’s is hands down my favorite local bar—it never disappoints! The staff is amazing, and they have board games and shuffleboard to keep things fun, not to mention an excellent selection of beers. I make it a point to drop by every week to try the newest brews on tap. Once, I brought my sister along, and she absolutely loved the Snow White cocktail. We happened to be there during a happy hour on a Tuesday some time ago, and the bartender went the extra mile by creating a custom cocktail just for her. Another fantastic feature is that you're welcome to bring your own food or even order in. Bob’s is always my go-to spot for a beer. I even celebrated New Year's there, and the atmosphere was amazing! My boyfriend also noted that they once showed Akira on the projector. How awesome is that?

Yelp
Happy hour on weekends, dog friendly and has a shuffleboard. What more could you want?

Yelp
Super Chill affordable bar near my hostel when in town from Los Angeles, everyone was nice and the neighborhood vibe with kids and pets made me feel cheerful

Yelp
Our favorite local to meet up with friends on the Upper West Side. Excellent draft selection. Staff is lovely and extremely attentive. I had a Mule with their ginger beer and Buffalo Trace today. Perfect
google avatar

Yelp
Best bar service, wonderful hosts, great draft craft beer, perfect drinks, a surprising and unexpected fun playlist, and a warm and cozy environment, in the UWS, NYC! Thanks Kirstin, Ben, Mike and Toby.
google avatar

Johnny G.

Yelp
One of my favorite bars. Airy bar with the most friendly bartenders around. They also dont hike up the prices like most of the bars in the area. I bought a total of 8 drinks for 72 dollars. Is that even real lol. I am forever in love with this place. Its also a great way to beginning or end your night.
google avatar

Deniece W.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar on the UWS. If you're familiar with old NYC dive bars, this used to be the Ding Dong Lounge. Definitely a "locals bar" vibe where everyone knows everyone, but still made a newbie like me feel welcome. A nice selection of beers on tap, including their $4 Bob's Pilsner which was pretty tasty. The mixed drinks are well-made and strong. I had a double margarita that was delicious and put me out of commission for about an hour. And of course, there are Jell-O shots. I will definitely stop by again when I'm in NYC, and if anyone is every in Miami Beach, FL, you should stop by the sister location of Bob's Your Uncle. It's my new fav bar in my 'hood, so you'll probably see me there.
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
Great relaxed atmosphere. The bartender was very nice and offered to charge our phones for us. Drink prices are very reasonable, and the people that come here seem to be a great crowd. I will definitely be back! (The Bobs Pilsner drafts are very good too)

Chase E.

Yelp
Count your cash back when you pay with cash. Got nixed $40 by not counting and PISSED. When I called they said too bad. Used to go often, but not anymore. Time to find a new neighborhood spot
google avatar

Pett O.

Yelp
This is a classic neighborhood establishment; with a long and well attended bar, and a spacious saloon. Nothing fancy, but it does the job for casual drinks. Cocktails are nothing special, to be fair. It is better to stay within the beer district. It tends not to be packed and it's location, close to North West Central Park, is actually quite convenient.
google avatar

Katy S.

Yelp
I've lived all over NYC and Bob's is hands down my favorite bar. Really friendly bartenders and locals. Definitely a bar you can come to alone and leave with new friends. Great cocktails- the buzzed mule! Everything about this place is great.

Jose L.

Yelp
Michael doesn't believe in good music he actually refused to play Steve Perry Journey and that is disappointing. He is a nice guy but lacks in musical interest and will try to avoid his nights bc of this. Nobody puts Journey in the corner.
google avatar

Katy D.

Yelp
FYI this bar isn't dog friendly anymore, i came in January and not only were dogs allowed inside but they also had dog treats available. Today I was informed that the policy changed and my dog and I were asked to leave, I also noticed another dog tried to go in and was also asked to leave. Just something to keep in mind!
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar with a great happy hour and fun atmosphere. The happy hour includes draft beers and well drinks for $6 which is a great deal!

David M.

Yelp
I remember this spot from when it was called the Ding Dong Lounge. Recently visited the old neighborhood with my son, and the bar tender very kindly let us in as he was opening to look around. The place has retained many of the DDL's features and based on the comments it sound like it is still a great place for locals to gather.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
Amazing bar on the UWS. Bartenders and owners are really funny and are doing their best in a Post-COVID lockdown world to survive as a small business. I recommend their Moscow mules. They make a variety and they also do Jell-O shots. I got a bunch of Tito's Mules, and all were phenomenal.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
This place is a cozy, hole-in-the-wall type bar with friendly bartenders and tasty, reasonably-priced drinks. They feature both liquor drinks (some craft cocktails), draft beers, bottled beers, and a few wines. The interior is purposely decorated like a dive bar (the menu is sketched on the wall and there's a lot of reclaimed wood features in the interior design). This all really works perfectly to set the stage for the ambiance of a "dive bar." Check this place out if you are ever in the area. It's solid, and it will satisfy!

Yelp
Bob is my uncle in the way that none of my uncles ever allowed me to have a beer. He rocks. Bartender Mike is awesome as he and I hung out at the mostly empty bar until a huge group came in. So yeah, this place is great for groups or just hanging on your own after work. The place has dimmed lighting and plenty of seating and space. I personally miss the days when one could hula hoop or shoot billiards in the middle of the bar, but I guess I have to let go of the past. Crowd is friendly across the board, so you can always socialize without feeling cramped. They are dog friendly, so don't be shocked when you see a little leashed pooch at your feet! Although Uncle Bob doesn't feed you, he will let you order whatever you want and have it delivered to the bar-- or you can bring your own. Overall, the place is laid back with low key decor in the way that the owners outfitted The Gibson in Brooklyn. Nice to know one can get the same atmosphere uptown. Incredible prices for both happy hour and non happy hour. The bar is well stocked and has a large, beautiful mirror that I missed taking a photo of. Did I mention that they have JELLO SHOTS ($3 or 4 for $10)?!?! Score! I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Alyssa W.

Yelp
I didn't know that a bar could ever be so deserving of 5 stars, but Bob's definitely is. We came here on a Sunday night, and the atmosphere here is just slightly cleaner and more upscale than you would expect of a "dive bar," but the people there are just so friendly, that you actually forget you're in NYC. Since it's the holiday time, the place is decorated with twinkle lights and a tree, which look so nice with the exposed brick interior. The prices also help you forget you're in NYC! Their Bob's Pilsner is $4, and well drinks are $8. It looked like well drinks go down to $6 for happy hour, Monday through Thursday. It seemed like because it was an off-peak night, we had no problem finding a place to sit, but I'd assume that wouldn't be the case for any night Thursday-Saturday. The vibe was like a perfect nighttime coffee shop that served liquor, basically an ideal situation for a Sunday night.

Yelp
My favorite bar in Manhattan !!! The device here is always friendly and professional, especially Freddy , he's the best , always with a friendly smile and a handshake , the way it should be !!! Get the Bob's Old Fashioned !!!
google avatar

Chantalle U.

Yelp
Huge space! Board games! Great staff! And dogs are welcome. It's a cool spot and I will definitely be back to check it out again. You will more likely than not, have a good time.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Good drinks great food and amazing service. Been wanting a "Glizzy" for a long time, and this place had just want what I wanted. A perfectly fried hot dog. The wait for the food was short as it should be, for a hot dog, and it was fried to perfection. The service was good and fast just like the food.
google avatar

Jolene H.

Yelp
I really, REALLY like this spot. Favorite aspects are the charismatic bartenders (with whom I've taken many a complimentary shot), hula hoops, funky 80s/90s music, and Jenga. The crowd is young but polite and the staff seems like they want patrons to have fun. I always do! So glad to be near this bar. I'd even recommend traveling it to for a casual night out - think second date or silly birthday drinks.
google avatar

Christian C.

Yelp
I came here in the early evening on a weekend and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The vibe was quiet/mature, the music was good, and the bartenders had great personalities. I heard it does get louder/busier later in the night, but around 6pm when I was there it was chill. I could definitely see myself coming back again for the atmosphere and service.
google avatar

Vichet O.

Yelp
What a magical place. I've been here exactly twice, both times for my birthday. One time, I lost my credit card there. I gave exactly zero shits because this place is so much fun. Pros: - Board games, shuffleboard, and even a little basketball hoop behind the bar where you can get a shot for making a shot once a day - 3 for $10 Jello shots? I'm not even a huge fan but I'll show up for value any day, fam - Great beer list, great cocktails - Enough room on a Saturday night to accommodate goddamn tourists like me and all my other friends who are in town for the same dance competition - Friendly fun staff (your experience may vary if you suck) - Great playlist that I feel like they may have lifted directly from my collection because I'm a super unique 80s kid with tastes that no one else could possibly have Cons: - They didn't give me free drugs or a million dollars Bob's, never change. Or, you know, do whatever you want because you've earned it and owe me exactly nothing.
google avatar

Gigi A.

Yelp
I used to live in the area and I frequented this spot when it was called Ding Dong Lounge. I didn't come here so much for drinking or socializing but rather to see very specific bands play. Most of the time, I was being polite and under obligation. Cut to the new name/same premise of Bob's Your Uncle. Love the name, adorbs. It's the kind of bar that makes you feel like you're not even in Manhattan, in a good way. The drinks are cheap. A cider was $6. But the whole place is super cheap. I wish the place was a little cleaner. But if you're with cheap out of town friends, living on a budget yourself or a fan of dive bars, Bob's is definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Avalyn J.

Yelp
I tend to always recommend this spot to anyone looking for an upper westside bar spot. I've gone on all different days of the week and have experienced different bartenders. Each time they all are pleasant to deal with. Their cocktails are delish and they have a great rotating draft beer selection. Although they dont serve food you are allowed to bring your own in or order to the location. The decor is that of wood, from the flooring to the tables. It's a spot that you can go to by yourself and not feel weird about it. I have done so & have always met friendly patrons. Oh and they are dog friendly.
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
Bar staff is unbearable. Stopped in here on a Tuesday night and there were less than 20 customers at the bar, yet the bartender was completely flustered, not to mention distracted by the - what looked like - locals. Got a beer and a shot of Jameson, and the Jameson was NOT Jameson. They must fill their bottles...but that shit that they call Jameson, is not it. I should know...I am a rep for the company. I love dogs, and have one myself, but barking dogs in a bar on a Tuesday night? What??? Lot of creeps in this bar, it has an extremely seedy vibe. Saw some guy dealing coke in the dark corner near the bathrooms in the back to the bartender and customers. I was there with a friend (who is a cop) and he was not impressed. Gross.
google avatar

Julie B.

Yelp
Really about 3 1/2 stars but I will bump them up to 4 for being next to the amazing Saiguette Vietnamese spot. I could see this being a great place for happy hour with friends and it has a neighborhood college bar vibe. The nightlife in this area is pretty tame, despite the proximity to Columbia so it's nice to have whatever you can get. They have A shuffleboard table in the back but there is no clear system for signing up or getting a turn and it was pretty much impossible to play on a Saturday night. There are also a few boardgames but not very many. We played Connect Four until it got really crowded and we decided to move on.
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
We happened upon Bob's on a very slushy, snowy Saturday evening. Once our boots filled with water we tossed our plans out the window and focused on a cozy place. The drafts here are very reasonable for NYC, the bar is spacious and clean, and there are some good seating/standing options. They even had the Olympics on the screen. The board games were fun but only for casuals. We ended up playing connect four (and turning it in to a drinking game, duh) and Guess Who because my date was French and the rest were mostly pun games. Everyone was friendly and the bartenders were even nice enough to lend two plastic bags to us for our wet accoutrements.
google avatar

Alissa L.

Yelp
Like 95% of the time this is a nice, chill place to get a couple of drinks. Occasionally the music and crowd can get loud and that's when it's time to pay the check and go. Other than that, nice place for a first date or a post-work drink!
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Meh. That is all. Additional thoughts - stopping here on a random Tuesday when it wasn't crowded only to watch the bartenders chat with each other for 5-10 minutes before scanning the bar for customers who want to spend money. NYC is loaded with average bars and this doesn't stand out - it's not horrible, just nothing whatsoever stands out in any way.
google avatar

Josephine L.

Yelp
Neighborhood dive in a neighborhood not known for dives. We came during the day, so had the whole place to ourselves and the attention of a beautiful, friendly bartender. Enjoyed an Old Fashioned and learned a few things about NYC's whiskey scene from her. Good times.
google avatar

Emma L.

Yelp
Me and my pups favorite spot. Such friendly staff in a beautiful and cozy atmosphere. Rotating draft selection always has something new (and great) to try. Filled with games and good people, this is a top notch place. Bartenders immediately seek out my dog and give her ice to chew on, seriously everyone here is just so nice. Good prices, and tons of games. Games! Visit, do it, do it
google avatar

Lilly R.

Yelp
Amazing drinks and great service friendly and super covid safe! Thank you!!!the great atmosphere as well!! Thank god for you guys!! This has become my local favorite bar!!

Yelp
Bobs Your Uncle NY Manhattan Manhattan Valley 3pm Thursday 11th February 2016 Four Stars Another surprisingly cool bar in the made-up neighborhood of Manhattan Valley aka nice part of Harlem. The wood floors, tables, and bar top gave it an upscale look. The projector playing a fireplace and chalkboard gave it a hipster feel. It felt like a place welcoming to everyone: an old lady, businessman in a suit, and the skinny jean, plaid shirt wearer could all enjoy a libation together. I had a Templeton Rye on the Rocks. It was served in a thin, taller low ball glass with cold draft cubes. The bartender was friendly. Overall, an enjoyable place to drink.
google avatar

Kristín M.

Yelp
My friends live nearby and chose this bar as their neighborhood bar, as I would do as well. It has a very vibrant atmosphere, staff is friendly and the drinks are cheap. They also have board games if you want to play. Nice bar to hang out.
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
Called in here for a few beers early last December while staying around the corner when we visited New York. It was Santacon day and everywhere had a good vibe about because of this. Bobs Your Uncle has a great range of beers, good enough to keep a real ale drinker happy anyway. the service was good and the place had a great atmosphere. If I lived local to it, I would be frequenting this place a lot.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
I don't live anywhere near here but I kind of wish I did! I'm glad I came here for a birthday celebration of someone who lives near by. This is a great dive! * Free shuffleboard * Self-serve lemon water * Board games * Bob's Pilsner at $4 a pint! * Very nice staff * Dogs are welcome! What's not to love?
google avatar

Myra H.

Yelp
Definitely a fun new spot on the Upper West Side. Have come here in groups a few times, which has been great since they have lots of space and long tables with stools. Very reasonably priced drinks with great happy hour deals and fun Jell-O shots! Love that you can order Seamless or takeout to the establishment as well, since they don't have a kitchen. Have ordered pizzas both times I've been there with friends which made for a great time! Definitely a great spot to grab a good happy hour deal or go out in a group of friends!
google avatar

Joey V.

Yelp
My wife and I love this spot. It's a dive bar, but there are great beers on tap and the bartenders are great and friendly. We usually go there specifically to play shuffleboard. It's a great spot to grab a drink at after eating Vietnamese food next door. Also plenty of seating!
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
Hello, Jell-O shots! My only complaint is that this joint isn't closer to my house! Love the drinks, love the bartenders. Pro-tip: we got takeout from the chicken place nearby and had it over drinks here which they were fine with. I've had a good time every time I've been here. Rock on!
google avatar

Angel S.

Yelp
Came to this bar this afternoon after a nice trip to Riverside Park. Been hearing about this place for awhile & I had to stop by. Love the polish wood exposed brick decor. The bar is super divey & has a lot of locals coming in. Sat by the window booth with my girlfriend. I got the Bee Sting while my girlfriend got the Kickin Mule. Extremely affordable prices given the area. Both were good cocktails not our favorite but we're definitely invested in trying to find one on their menu. The bartender was really nice & was down to have a conversation with me whenever I came up to the bar to order another round. One of the best parts of this bar, its dog friendly! Had my Shiba Inu in here with us. Apparently the owner loves dogs & welcomes them with customers. I've seen lap dogs & German Shepard in here. Feel free to come by with your canine companion. Just make sure their well behaved so you don't ruin the super chill Vibes already happening haha! Side note; they have board games in the back!
google avatar

Ben T.

Yelp
Really great cocktail, beer, and jello shots bar in UWS. The cool thing about this bar is that they love dogs. The bartenders will let dogs come in and give them a bowl of water to drink. It's a great, chill vibe. The jello shots are a little pricey, but definitely fun. Also, they have fun board games like jenga, connect 4 and more. Awesome place to chill.
google avatar

Seth H.

Yelp
I've lived in NYC for almost a decade, and have enjoyed few bars as much as "Bob's". It has a great local vibe that also doesn't make newcomers feel like outsiders. Wonderful, friendly service. Can bring in outside food which is a HUGE plus (Saiguette is a favorite, located just steps away), and there are tons of games, and good music playing.
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
When I first moved to Manhattan in 2009, I lived two blocks up the street, and this was the Ding Dong Lounge. It was THE dive bar for the neighborhood, full of interesting characters, indeed. Since I've moved out and gentrification has trickled up Columbus Avenue even more so, Bob's Your Uncle has taken over this spot. My memories of the Ding Dong Lounge live on, but Bob's Your Uncle is an excellent replacement. This is a very friendly neighborhood bar with little pretense. They've got a varied beer and cider list, good booze, Jell-O shots (!!!), a small bowling game and board games to share, a projection screen, and the BEST playlists EVERRRR. The first time I visited, they were playing Billy Ocean and other mid-80s pop gems. Upon visiting this past Saturday, they played middle school and high school classics. Aaliyah! Monica! Brandy! 112! I have the buzzed Snapchat videos of myself lip-syncing to always remember that night... I do love the ciders they have (Downeast and Nine Pin are usually on tap or in cans), and I love the Pear-A-Dice bourbon-based cocktail! I know I'll be coming back here more and more. If I still lived up the street, I would be a regular! And even though I live WAAAAY up the street now (...as in, walk two blocks west to Broadway, then walk 100 blocks to the north. Ha!), I can still see myself going there regularly.
google avatar

Jake G.

Yelp
Walked by this place probably 30 times before actually stopping in, but I'm sure glad I did. This bar has become my favorite hangout. Offering a cheap but thorough draft beer selection, including their "Bob's pilsner" for $4. Their happy hour(s) is insane. 2-7 and filled with great specials. On top of all of the amazing drinks coming out of this place, the bartenders have all been so kind and welcoming. Clearly a local/neighborhood bar feel, but they don't make you feel out of place if it's your first time in.
google avatar

Aleece T.

Yelp
This space is actually incredible but it doesn't seem to be utilizing it's assets very well. They could do with more seating and more attentive bartenders. Hate to cut it short but their really isn't else much to say about it.
google avatar

Smith F.

Yelp
Friday night at this place...loved it . There's a lot of space..the beers on tap are great...love their chalk board that lets you buy someone a drink later In the week. We had this brunette short bartender that was PISSY the whole time ...however, there's a blonde bartender that saved us from her. Literally the best bartender I've seen in a long time. She clearly runs the place. Love the unisex solo bathrooms. Love the menu on the chalk board. Loved it here. I hope this place does well financially because it's a great addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Awesome bar! Weren't sure from the outside but we were welcomed as locals at the bar. Danielle and Chris were awesome! We're going back tomorrow night and every time we visit NYC!
