As forever downtown "locals", we love when a food gap is filled. Breakfast downtown has always been tricky. Sometimes there's a two hour wait (thanks a lot, brunchers), sometimes restaurants try too hard to be "upscale" and miss the mark, and other times, the food just sucks.
We started going to Bodega as soon as they opened at Uptown Social. On weekends, they were a lifesaver. You could tell that Bodega was working out the bugs for something bigger. Alas, we visited them at their new location on Ann Street to check out the space, improvements, and of course, their tasty breakfast sandwiches.
At this price point, Bodega is a safe bet. The sandwiches are made fresh (to order) and we appreciate the consistency with their Lowcountry and Classic sandwiches. Thick, dense, flavorful, and begging for ketchup, these breakfast sandwiches are perfect and the fuel you'll need to walk around downtown all day and/or kill that annoying hangover.
We were most impressed by the management's customer service attitude and willingness to help us (rare downtown). After waiting for 40+ minutes, the manager found us a table next door and made sure that our order would be delivered to the new table. Because Bodega is new, communication between the different "fronts" was challenging, but the team worked together to make us comfortable. And hey, we appreciate it.
Our main feedback would be to expedite to go orders without disrupting the people who want to sit down and "experience" Bodega's fun vibe/culture.
