Bodega SF offers a modern twist on Northern Vietnamese cuisine in a stylish setting, perfect for long dinners with vibrant cocktails and family-style dishes.
"For a group dinner that makes you feel like an overindulgent royal, get to this Northern Vietnamese restaurant near Union Square. When you’re here with a whole crew, the seemingly never-ending chef’s tasting menu ($90 per person) is the move. It’s a family-style parade of incredible plates—like bánh khọt, citrusy bò tái chanh, and wiggly bánh cuốn and finishes with a bowl of phở and multiple desserts. If you want to keep the party going, head downstairs to their speakeasy-ish sister bar, The Felix, for coffee-spiked drinks and DJs." - julia chen 1, patrick wong
"Bodega SF takes northern Vietnamese dishes and amps them up with fun twists—there’s caviar on bánh khọt, and yuzu coconut foam atop oysters. But one classic they’ve kept, well, classic, is the phở. At dinner, it’s only available on their $90 tasting menu (miniature bowls of phở round out the multi-course extravaganza). If you come for lunch, you can order the phở a la carte, each with slippery tangles of noodles in chicken or beef bone broth. There’s also a vegan option with mushrooms, tofu, and bok choy." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong
"Bodega SF is where we go when we’re looking to break away from a showboating steakhouse lunch routine (looking at you Miller & Lux). Located right off of the Powell station, this Northern Vietnamese restaurant is perfect for dazzling out-of-towners with thinly sliced filet mignon in the form of a tangy bò tái chanh and cocktails inspired by Hi-Chews and red bean. If you’re trying to make a power move, go with the $90 eight-course tasting menu. It's served family style with huge portions, making it the perfect stop to celebrate a seven-figure acquisition with the team." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1, patrick wong
"Bodega SF is the reimagined comeback for Tenderloin favorite Bodega Bistro, which shuttered back in 2017. Matt Ho, son of one of the restaurant’s co-owners, revived the family restaurant as a pop-up during the pandemic, but now the Vietnamese spot has permanently relocated to a Union Square-adjacent spot with modern touches befitting Ho’s time as manager at Nobu Palo Alto. The restaurant serves old favorites, such as shaking beef and pho at lunch, as well as updated dishes like bun cha made with heritage pork belly and cha ca, a whole branzino that’s deboned and butterflied. If you’re feeling thirsty for cocktails, there’s a sister bar, the Felix, conveniently located next door." - Dianne de Guzman, Paolo Bicchieri
"This family-run Vietnamese fine dining enclave is perfect for many things: Bun cha, pho, and late-night craft cocktails. But, relevantly, the business is also home to the Felix, a subterranean dance floor and lounge that’s bookable for private parties online. The max capacity is 70 guests, and the cost to rent the space depends on the day of the week." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff
