‘The Big Bang Theory’ Star Mayim Bialik Opens Vegan Restaurant | Eater

"A fast-casual, 100% vegan, owner-operated spot in Downtown LA run by actor Mayim Bialik and vegan chef Allison Cruddas, it serves grain bowls, salads, soups and sandwiches under a smiling Buddha logo. The menu leans into Buddhism-themed names (Samsara, Mandala, Sangha, Dharma) for its grain bowls while breakfast departs from the theme with items like a tempeh bacon panini. Aimed at offering hearty plant-based alternatives beyond just salad and fries, the food features house-made seitans and dressings and is positioned as an affordable, healthy-Subway–style option (Dharma bowls advertised around $10). Open for nearly two years, the restaurant only recently began publicly affiliating itself with Bialik and has adjusted service hours to close Sundays so staff can spend time with family." - Greg Morabito

Whoever came up with the dish names must have achieved kung fu enlightenment or watched a lot of kung fu series. You must order the dishes as though they are masterful moves as you fight your opponents. "Hunger will vanish with this Eight Fold Paths Tofu!" or "Receive thy blessings through my Seven Treasure Plate." Oh... Food also tastes good. I don't even remember what I ordered, only that I had fun ordering them...

I recently dined at Bodhi Bowl and was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of their vegetarian dishes. The menu offered a wide selection of flavorful and healthy options. I particularly enjoyed the creative use of fresh ingredients in their dishes., I would recommend Bodhi Bowl to anyone looking for delicious vegetarian food.

Bodie bowl is an amazing restaurant! We had the pleasure of having lunch there and the vibes are just great. Everything we had was simple yet delicious. Will definitely return

My experience in Vietnamese restaurant .. The place very very clean that caught my attention first, it has a retro seating arrangement, for moment after we got our table and was looking around the place I felt was teleported to the late 80’s or 90’s .. I’m saying it in good way this was change and refreshing in that manner. Food and Services: Let me just jump into it! The Quantity was good, in my opinion it’s by far the best vegetarian Vietnamese food ever tasted. Services was the best not had to way for too long and the food was hot and yummy !! My recommendation to this place is a must eat !! I give the place ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My favorite vegetarian restaurant! I'm from Reno and we come here because food is so delicious! I love the A2 and A3! I hope they will have a branch in Reno in the future. More power to the owner.

Google
The vegan food here is delicious! I try to swing by this place when I am in the area. I just visited this place today and had the Mindfulness Noodle (B3 on the menu) and the tofu pudding for dessert. I also had a cup of iced tea and Vietnamese iced coffee. The owners and staff are friendly. I was quickly seated after arriving and my noodle bowl arrived a few minutes after I ordered. I highly recommend this place!

Google
Very good Vietnamese vegetarian food. All your Viet favorites are here but without the animal products. At first I was concerned the flavor would not be there, but I was wrong! Also every thing feels light, yet satisfying. I felt, as someone who likes meat, I would feel something was missing but not at all. And the people working there are always smiling!

10/12/2021 Recommend? Yes. Let's get straight to the point: BEST VEGAN BUN BO HUE. That's it. I'm Vietnamese and since my vegan journey of more than 2 years I haven't been able to find a satisfactory bun bo hue. My favorite ones ever have always been in Viet Nam at a little stall in the market or the neighborhood house that makes it to sell. Here I ordered bun bo hue and cha gio. Do take my review with a grain of salt because I had been hungry for daysssss, well really just 1 day because I was on a train. Lol. The bun bo hue here comes with a paste and you should definitely add it to your bowl. It has banana blossom as a veggie to add, but in addition to that I would also love some morning glory. The broth was well seasoned and not overly sweet like a lot of over bun bo hue and the mushrooms, tofu, and "meats" have well absorbed the flavor of the broth too. The cha gio (eggrolls, spring rolls) were fine. I didn't hate it, but I didn't think they were extra great either.

Yelp
A Hidden Gem I Keep Coming Back To - Vietnamese Vegan Done Right I've been coming to Bodhi Bowl for years, and every time I'm in Sacramento, it's a must-stop for me. This place has become one of those rare spots that feels like a second home--warm, welcoming, and consistently delicious. The owner is an absolute sweetheart, and the staff is always so kind, attentive, and genuine. You can tell they care about their food and their customers, and that makes every visit feel personal. The food itself? Unique and full of flavor. Vietnamese vegan cuisine isn't something you run into every day, and Bodhi Bowl does it exceptionally well. The dishes are thoughtful, well-balanced, and satisfying--whether you're vegan or not. I'm a proud supporter of this spot and will continue to come back every time I'm in the area. If you're looking to try something different, delicious, and made with love, I highly recommend Bodhi Bowl. It's a special kind of place.

Yelp
Bodhi Bowl in South Sac is so tasty!! I've never been before but my friend recommended bc I'm currently not eating meat on Fridays. I couldn't believe everything I was eating was vegetarian. Delicious, affordable, and filling!! - Jackfruit Salad $9.50 - Lemongrass "Chicken" $15.50 - Bun Hue Thanh Tinh (vegetarian bun bo hue) $13.50 My favorite items were definitely the jackfruit salad and the lemongrass "chicken." The jackfruit salad tasted exactly like goi ga with the meaty texture of the jackfruit, freshness from the herbs like mint sprigs, and crispy chip. The lemongrass "chicken" is also unbelievable!! The slightly fried breading on the "chicken" definitely have a nice bite and juiciness that felt exactly like real chicken. The flavor of the lemongrass was also very bright and tart, so good. The bun bo thanh tinh is also good, but I don't think it's as such a good "meatless" swap like the two dishes before were. There's a lot of protein in the soup and they provide a fermented tofu paste that gives "funk" like normal shrimp paste does, but it's not exactly the same as bun bo hue. Service was quick but they don't come back to refill water. Good thing I brought my own water in haha. Restaurant is small and quaint, like your normal hole in the wall Asian spot. *Do NOT go to their website! I tried to confirm prices but it's been compromised by a scam site LMAO SAVE YOURSELVES

Yelp
Ordered the Bun Rieu. Flavor was good and it had mushrooms, triangle tofu with skin, and the medium crumbly tofu. Only complaint is that the chopsticks were sticky feeling? Tested another pair and it still was sticky.

Yelp
Bohdi Bowl is a small, Vietnamese restaurant serving vegetarian dishes. It isn't necessarily located in the best area, but there was parking right outside the restaurant doors. They have a very descriptive menu. I tried the Liberating Spring Rolls (A9) and Pho BB (B1) Hue Style Noodle (B2). My pho was flavorful, but I did feel a bit dehydrated after my meal. I appreciate that they served a good amount of bean sprouts with the pho. The sauce for the spring rolls was too fishy for my taste, but I enjoyed the roll itself. Service was average. They didn't check in after the food was served. Overall, a good spot for vegetarians to check out, but it's not necessarily at the top of my list of places to return.

Yelp
Great customer service! The time for them to bring your food was kinda slow thats the only thing that was ehh. The food was good but it was skimpy, nothing like Viet Ha on Florin and Stockton. The place looked clean the tables were wiped off. I honestly just liked that they acknowledged you when you walk in unlike the spot a few doors down at "olives Mediterranean " that place has the worst customer service. My only issue was the price for the amount of food you get but the food was really good tho. Check them out.

Yelp
Amazing veggies food. Services were great. I love the overall look of the restaurant. Great job. Highly recommend. Support local food. I love their vegetarian food. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
Food was tasty, but slightly salty. Even though there is no meat in the dishes there is a lot of flavor. The meatless substitute made from tofu is delicious. Service is adequate. I ordered the Bun Hue Thanh Thinh and it was flavorful. There were lots of veggies, tofu type meatless substitute, and chili flakes on the side.

Yelp
This is a classic Vietnamese vegetarian staple where I've tried a few of their dishes but the one that stood out the most are their egg rolls. They were thick and had a nice crisp and the filling was incredibly flavorful and full of taro. I also ordered a bun hue noodle soup that satisfied the soup craving but was missing depth in flavor. I like trying different things on their menu but the egg rolls are definitely a must for each visit.

Yelp
Love all the vegan pho we ordered, it tasted delicious, freshly made to order, & surprisingly vegan! The portions were also huge. I will definitely order from here every time I am back in town!

Yelp
They always have really yummy food. I highly recommend them hands-down. I think they're the best Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant in Sacramento.

Yelp
This place is not fancy but on this hot evening the fresh variety of food hear was just what we needed. The food was filling but light so I did not feel yucky afterwards in this hot weather. Nice soothing music placed as the dining area was nice and cool. The menu had pictures as well as excellent descriptions so we know what was vegan or could be vegan. I ordered a rice noodle dish with veggie "beef" and peanuts. I could eat this everyday. My companion got spring rolls and a tofu pudding. We wish they were closer as I would go weekly.

Yelp
Excellent food! The restaurant is very clean and cute. The staff was friendly and helpful. In addition, the dishes were reasonably priced.

Ramon G.

Yelp
Delicious food, absolutely phenomenal pho. The vegan chicken drumsticks were tasty as well. Friendly service, quick service. Highly recommended for everyone, including meat eaters as the faux meat used is tasty

Jay C.

Yelp
This place was highly recommended to me by my boss and I was not disappointed at all. The menu had so many awesome options and pictures of everything. The staff were sweet and answered lots of questions from my father who is a dedicated whole food plant-based enthusiast. We will be back!!

Yelp
Clean and quiet restaurant with very quick service. We came on an extremely hot summer day and decided to cool ourselves down with piping hot noodle soup. We ordered the papaya salad, bun hue thanh tinh, and pho bo de tam. We were very impressed with the fresh and flavorful papaya salad. I have tried a lot of papaya salad from different restaurants and this one is definitely one of the top ones I've had. I only wished it was complimented with a more authentic, less salty sauce. Both our noodle soups were very soothing and flavorful with extremely fresh ingredients. The portion size were very generous as well. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for fresh, vegan Vietnamese food!

Yelp
First time at a Vegetarian Asian restaurant, definitely a must try place. Restaurant is quite small and comfy. Service was quick and nice. Food was delicious, as someone who is not vegetarian I would come back and try other food on the me.

Yelp
Fantastic vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant. Each dish was flavorful, you really don't need meat! My favorite was the clay pot fish dish, but I think you can't go wrong ordering here. The workers are nice and the interior reminds me of Vietnamese restaurants from when I went to Vietnam

Yelp
SO GOOD. Oh my god, I love when I find good Vietnamese food, and even better that it was all completely vegetarian. I was only in town for a day but wow if I ever come back to Sacramento I will most definitely be back. Quick and friendly service, and cozy restaurant.

Yelp
My friends and I hit the biggest nap after this. Amazing food, best vegan Vietnamese foods out here. Bless up

Yelp
I love the dishes here. They have a lot of variety, and food is always fresh. The portion sizes are good too, and prices are good. The place is clean and the staff very courteous and attentive to patrons.

Yelp
I've never had a bad dish from here. Close your eyes and randomly choose and you can't go wrong! I can't remember the names of the dishes, but the sliced beef noodle dish is my go-to. They way they season the meat is soooo devine. I usually feel the need to add some type of sauce on top of Asian or Vietnamese food, but the flavors are so balanced here that there's no need. Imma still add chili oil tho lol. Everything is very filling and of good value. I highly recommend the spring rolls and fried rolls as well. The fried ones are mini and come out steaming hot and fresh. So hot that your mouth will begin to water as you open your mouth to eat it! The innards are vegetables but there's an additional meaty component inside that makes it soooo craveable and good! Just delicious! The owners are sweet as well. She's vegan too and told me that one day, I will find my vegan husband.

Yelp
We've been to Bodhi Bowl a few times and we love coming here! So many great Vietnamese food options (hot and cold) and delicious! The seating options are mostly indoors but there is usually always a table for our party of four. Things we've enjoyed: The Six Perfections: Battered Fried Soy Shrimp Appetizer Pho BB Wisdom Leaf Lemongrass Veggie Chicken Whenever I'm in South Sacramento, I try to make an effort to get here! I would definitely recommend this very fresh and delicious spot to family and friends! Btw, food comes out FAST!

Yelp
The food was excellent. Lots of vegan options. Andy, the owner came out several times to see how we were doing.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews and the fact that it caters to vegetarian/vegans. However I got the B1 and the egg rolls and was not impressed. I'm not a very picky eater but I didn't even finish my food. The egg roll filling threw me off I would have liked more veggies, carrots cabbage ect. but they were filled with glass noodles and faux meat. I didn't like the flavor of the wrap either. The pho flavor was overpowered by star anise, the noodles were very over cooked to the point that I couldn't enjoy eating them. This is the main reason I didn't finish my food. The noodles felt like straight mush in my mouth. This only got worse with time. The portion is smaller than your average bowl of pho. The tofu was okay nothing special. I didn't try any of the faux meat based on my experience with the egg rolls. I also would have enjoyed some bokchoy, carrots or other veggies in the soup. (This is just a personal preference, something that I enjoy from other pho places.) I asked for veggies on the side and they very kindly steamed some bok choy and cabbage for me. I'm sure that some of the items on the menu are good, however I will not be returning. Giving them a 3 star rating simply because the staff was so attentive and kind.

Yelp
This place exceeded all expectations. Legit Vietnamese people in the kitchen and dining in. Excellent vegan and vegetarian options with an authentic and delicious flavor profile. Great service. Ambiance is homey. We got the bun bo hue, soy "chicken" rice plate, and soy "beef" spring rolls. Would 100% come back again to try their other dishes!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here by chance because my other option ended up being closed and omg!! This place was delicious! Such great vegan/vegetarian options at such a great price point. I really enjoyed the flavors and texture of the food here. Unfortunately when I came they were sold out of the item my friend highly recommended (A3 Six Perfections), but we still thoroughly enjoyed the A2 B1. Parking was easy with the lot, and service was friendly & fast. I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes!
google avatar

Yelp
For sure a Mom and Pop place. Had the pho, so yummy! Great service. The place is clean and everyone is friendly. My parents wanted to try this because they are both vegetarians. They loved it.

Jeremiah S.

Yelp
Amazing vegetarian food, service, and nice area inside! 10/10 would recommend. We tried the plant-based lemongrass chicken and tuna, and it was perfect. There's so many options, would definitely come back and try out the other yummy vegetarian food in the menu!!

Yelp
Today we order a few dishes as a family meal type, with Sour Soup, a braised dish, eggroll and jackfruit salad. Food is always good and healthy. I love the braised and its black peppercorn flavor. Best vegan restaurant in town.

Yelp
First time here and was pleased to find this place. - Mindfulness Noodle - pretty good, not amazing. - Liberating spring rolls - T was not a fan - a different dipping sauce may have been better. - Heavenly and Awakening Noodle - combo of heavenly spring rolls and awakening noodles (I may have swapped the two names...) I would have given 4 stars except for one BIG reason. I opened the restroom door to an employee using the toilet. Less than 5 seconds later, she was out the door. 1000% sure she did NOT wash her hands, nor do they have a sign in their bathroom requiring employees to wash their hands. That employee left the bathroom and returned to the kitchen. Yuck. I know it probably happens, but to have evidence of it is unacceptable.

Yelp
Lowkey obsessed with Bodhi Bowl as it totally caters to my love for noodle soup and my totally vegetarian diet! I dropped by Bodhi Bowl pretty early on a Saturday (yay for being open early!) with a couple friends and loved the options so much that I came back in the next day as well! During my initial visit, I tried the Happiness Noodle and the second time I tried the Hue Style Noodle. Both noodle dishes were great, but the ground tofu on the Happiness Noodle was out of this world! Literally addicted to it and dreaming of when I can go back and get it! Service was quick and friendly and there is plenty of parking in the complex if you drop by. This place has a great meal for vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike so check it out for sure!

Yelp
The food here are amazing, very flavorful and delicious. I usually get the noodles and spring rolls. Space is very clean too! Definitely a must-try spot for vegan lover.

Yelp
Bodhi is an authentic vegetarian and vegan restaurant. Whenever I feel like having vegetarian food, this is my first choice! This is hidden in a quiet plaza in South Sacramento. I've tried many of their dishes, but these are my favorites. A4 Enlightening Spring Roll It's grilled vegetarian "beef", lettuce, cilandro, pickled carrots, mints and cilantro wrapped in rice paper. It's very refreshing and healthy. It comes with a peanut dipping sauce. B4 Happinese Noodles A flavorful mushroom and tomato broth with grounded tofu, sprouts, cabbages, herbs and rice noodles. On a cold day, this is so comforting. C4 Joyful Giving Plate Seasoned lemongrass "chicken" with rice and pickled carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes. It's a little spicy, but you can't stop after one bite of the "chicken". C6 Mediation Plate Fried seasoned "tuna" with rice and pickled carrots, cucumbers and tomatoes. My son thought it was real fish and couldn't believe it was made out of soybean and spices. I don't know how they do it, but it's absolutely delicious. Highly Recommended. Reasonably priced and the ladies/staffs are super friendly.

Yelp
Located in Little Saigon along with many other little gems, Bodhi Bowl shines through with fresh ingredients and great flavor. I had seen this place a few times but never tried it, until today! They are offering indoor dining so I chose to do that. The menu is clearly marked with what is vegan vs what can be made vegan, which was the majority of the menu. Otherwise, everything is vegetarian. I chose a rice plate and Enlightening Spring Rolls while my boyfriend got pho. Everything was delicious, especially the beef substitute they make. Both my dishes came with their beef and I was so excited! It had a great texture and flavor. The peanut sauce they serve with their spring rolls was also amazing. My boyfriend also really enjoyed his pho. The service was friendly and quick. The inside is also really cute and they had the AC running which was nice as it's starting to heat up. Overall, a really good place with fair prices. Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Alexa R.

Yelp
Really good vegetarian food. Everything was nicely seasoned. If you want faux meat pho this place is great. I stuck with the B1 but they have a delicious tomato broth soup that's worth a shot B4. It was so flavorful and delicious. need to also get the spring rolls. It has seasoned soy that imitates meat and you can hardly tell it's vegetarian. The food was perfect for today's crazy weather. Prices are pretty cheap too. The restaurant was clean and well managed. However the customer service could be improved. There is a parking lot with plenty of parking. The plaza this place is located in has options for dessert and other things.

Yelp
A small vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant in Little Saigon. I came here with my friend since we were both craving pho and he told me this was the best pho he's had in Sacramento. Well, it definitely lived up to the statement. The pho was very flavorful and the noodles were cooked well! There were two veggie meats. The veggie ham was amazing, the best vegetarian meat I've ever had. I wasn't the biggest fan of the veggie beef though. There was also tofu which was good and mushrooms which I didn't enjoy much either in the pho due to the slimy texture. We also ordered eggrolls, which were really good and addicting. Would recommend trying them out or any appetizer. The service was fast and good, and at the end we just went up to the register to pay. We were there for a while since we were talking and didn't feel rushed at all which was nice. This is a great place for Vietnamese food whether or not you're vegetarian!

Yelp
While the typical styrofoam, plastic, and (non-typical) extra use of plastic wrap of the takeout materials is always disappointing, the food itself knocked it out of the ballpark. I would love to dine in once we can do that again (so please do your part so we can get there faster). A4 Spring rolls: Honestly I kind of liked these better than the meat version! The soy beef has a great crispy/chewy texture. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy. Would definitely get again. B3 Mindfulness noodles: Initially looking at the broth, I thought, "is this just going to be weird oily water?" BUT NO, I WAS DELIGHTFULLY WRONG. The broth has a beautiful, deep squash flavor that is sweet and savory when paired with the cabbage (and whatever sweetener they put in). They give you these giant crispy chips you can put in that crackle once they hit liquid and it mimics pork rinds in experience (not taste, but I still enjoyed eating them). I would definitely get this dish again. It is on the sweet and spicy side - I wouldn't say the cabbage made it sour or anything like that. I could just drink the broth lol Eating this dish felt light but satisfying and filling. (pro tip: reheat in a hot pot!) B9 Purity noodles: This was good, but it was my least favorite of the three dishes we ordered. To be fair, we ate this the next day instead of fresh! I think it would be awesome to eat fresh (and dine in style). The sauce is very sweet. Overall, if you love the sweetness and the fresh, crisp, refreshing breeze of Vietnamese cuisine, you'll love this place. Happy to see a vegan/vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant with still affordable pricing!

Yelp
I had the 7 treasures rice plate and papaya salad. The tofu and the medley of veggies were really good and seasoned well, unfortunately the rice literally smelled like old socks. I'll try the noodles next time.

Yelp
Came here for a Lunar New Year lunch with family after visiting the temple nearby. It was busy but luckily we were able to get a table for our party of four! We had two appetizers (pictured), two bowls of Bun Rieu, Bun Hue Chay, and Pho Chay. The flavors weren't bold or stood out in any way, but everything was light yet filling. For drinks, we were charged $1 per person for tea. The Vietnamese coffee (cafe sua da) was pretty good (good enough to get another cup to-go LOL), along with the mango smoothie (had a cherry on top!). Service wasn't that great. The younger hostesses really made their point that they didn't want to work there, but the older gentlemen bussing tables were kind and checked on us occasionally. Overall pretty great place for a vegetarian meal. Food comes out quickly even when the restaurant's busy, so come hungry, leave satisfied!

Yelp
Finally made it to Bodhi Bowl for lunch and was surprised at how much I enjoyed my vermicelli bowl! It came with imitation meat and vegetarian fish sauce, the right amount of peanuts, noodles and veggies. My husband and I are trying to eat as much vegan/vegetarian food as possible and it's nice to find a place that does it well. Our server was very accommodating and cooked my bean sprouts since I'm pregnant and can't have raw sprouts, which I really appreciated! They have a wide variety and I'm looking forward to trying more of their offerings!

Yelp
I'm so in love with the Sweet and sour soup here. It is so cravable. Highly recommend this restaurant

Yelp
I drove from a land far, far away (ok, Fair Oaks, but it felt like an eternity to get there) to meet up with an old friend and split some veggie Vietnamese cuisine. The menu was big, full of pictures, and everything looked and sounded fantastic. We decided to split the Bun Hue that they are best known for and a vermicelli bowl. The Bun Hue was ok, but I really had to spice it up with add ins like chili paste and sriracha. Vermicelli bowl was pretty good, with a fair amount of fresh veggies. Both were priced reasonable to what you get. Service was virtually non-existent but, as my friend and I were deep in conversation, we didn't mind. Overall it's a decent spot if I'm in the area, but not a place I would drive out of my way for. I've definitely had better versions of both of the dishes we tried.

Yelp
I love pho...and I love this vegetarian pho place!! The broth was still tasty...and possibly even tastier for it being vegetarian/vegan. Food- Overall, it was so flavorful. I love the lemongrass flavor in many dishes, so I decided to get B2. Bun hue thanh tinh. It was the best pho broth I've ever had!!! For it being vegetarian, all of the "meats" were really good. I highly recommend B2. I also got C4, which is the joyful giving plate. it also has a lemongrass based flavor and that also did not fail. The "chicken" was crisp and the extra sauce they gave on the side made it all come together for the spice. I think it was a beet paste and some chili peppers. Service- Super fast and if it matters, the temperature in the restaurant is perfect. It isn't super hot, nor "sticky" for a place that makes pho. The servers are really nice and always asked if we needed anything else.

Yelp
Prices are fair and the food is amazing. This is my go-to vegetarian restaurant. I love not having to fear accidentally getting meat broth.

Yelp
I'm vegetarian so I always come here for my viet food fix! Their bun bo hue & mi quang are my go tos, they have sooo much flavor!!

Yelp
As long-time vegans, we've tried many vegan places and restaurants with veggie options. Bodhi Bowl is literally the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant in all of the Sacramento area. A true hidden gem! Prompt and friendly service. Good portions and reasonable prices. The owners and all staff are so kind. They can easily make vegetarian items vegan. They have an extensive menu, and everything we have tried in the past 3 times we've visited has been amazingly flavorful! Would definitely recommend the noodle soups, Peking duck (pictured), salads, and the jackfruit (and really all!) smoothies. Only wish that we found out about them sooner.
