Poolside Pork Tostadas and More Openings in New Orleans This August | Eater New Orleans

"Set to open in the former Outpost 45/Mondo space in Lakeview, this seafood-and-bourbon spot from Emeril alum David McCelvey—who ran Uptown’s Frankie & Johnny’s for the past decade—promises boiled and fried seafood, po’ boys, raw oysters, chilled seafood, and grilled fish and meats, plus a burger. The bar side leans into a vast selection of bourbon alongside a variety of beer on tap and in cans, with hopes to debut by the end of the month." - Beth D’Addono

I’m so glad I chose this spot right when I landed in New Orleans. Came here with 3 of my buddies. We started things off with two drinks the “so fresh” and “Leche you later”. My friends got the bourbon and loved it ! My first time having char boiled oysters, and I fell in love 10/10. Got some crab cluster, and it was some good tasting crab. I love shrimp so I decided we wanted to share the two different kind of shrimps. We got the Gulf shrimp and the red royal shrimp. Both amazing but I like the red royal shrimp. Then I got myself their seafood pasta called De mer pasta. We got two desserts. Bread pudding and their lemon icebox cake. Their lemon icebox cake with some of the best dessert I ever had must try. All the desserts are made and baked in house ! Our server was nice and the restaurant was clean ! Would definitely come back if I come back to the big easy.

Just checked out the newest spot in Lakeview — Boil & Barrel — and wow, it’s a game changer for the Lakeview area. The atmosphere? Electric. Bourbon drinks flowing. Laughs echoing. It’s loud in the best way. You’ll leave with bellies full, hands messy, and already scheming your next visit. 🎉

Loved this new restaurant. Really liked the decor and vibe. Been there a couple times and the service has always been great. Staff seems to read the patrons perfectly and service is geared appropriately. When I think of perfectly prepared and seasoned Louisiana seafood, Boil and Barrel has hit the mark on everything I've tried and I've tried soups, fried, boiled and more. B&B also provides an extensive selection of bourbons and offers you a chance to sample a flight of your choice. The bar is not limited to bourbon alone there is a wide choice of beers and spirits of all kind. The place also provides outdoor spaces to both dine and comfortably chill. All in all this is now one of my favorite places to both dine and hang. I recommend everybody hit this place up.

I’ve been to Boil and Barrel several times now, and it never disappoints! The atmosphere is great — relaxed and can get lively — and it always feels like a fun place to be. The food is fantastic every time. I love that the menu has such a good variety — fresh raw and boiled seafood, sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts, and even a really good steak! The bar is another highlight. They have an awesome selection of cocktails, bourbons, and beers, and everything I’ve tried has been excellent. The staff and management go above and beyond to make sure guests are happy, and it really shows in the service and overall vibe. I highly recommend checking Boil and Barrel out!

This is a place we want to like more. It was our third time and the food is solid, everything we’ve ordered has been pretty good. Our biggest issues are the bar and cleanliness. The drinks just aren’t good, the old fashion is watered down to the point you can’t taste the bourbon. The mixed drinks just aren’t appealing and don’t find them to be well made. Our last visit was plagued by random hairs. We were brought an app plate with a hair on it and told the server he put it on the tray without saying anything and then bartender tried to give it to us again in which we told him and he didn’t say anything either. Weary of how clean things are we ate the rest of the meal and asked for a to-go container which contained another hair. We mentioned it to the manager who didn’t seem overly concerned and the bartender didn’t say a word about it all night until it came time for the tip.

Same owners as previous restaurant (Outpost) that failed and this seems to be on same path (but with more velocity). Food: Salty again. Atmosphere: nothing changed but a few pictures. Still same very bad views of tvs in bar (they actually removed the tv behind bar which was only decent view). Like outpost, waayyyy over priced. Selling cheap wine where the price of a glass is sometimes m ore than the bottle (at dorignacs). Service is mediocre. Everyone was nice though. But given how few customers were there, they should have been tripping over each other to serve me (and should never have to look for a server for a new drink). Asked for a dry martini and got vermouth poured in my drink (without a pourer), so was not dry at all. And they have no idea how to do a twist. To top it all off!!! They added a 3% SURCHARGE for paying with a credit card. Ugh…..

All around great place. Met the Gm Ron at the bar. Great guy, very knowledgeable. Hostess Lydia was very nice as well. Waiter Alex was also great. Will be back soon. Food was really good

Yelp
Service was slow to start, but our waiter Bryan was great and attentive! The inside is beautiful with wooden accents and definitely gives a tavern feel. The bathrooms were clean and stocked, even with hand lotion. Food was fantastic! We got charbroiled oysters and shrimp boil bisque to start. For our main meals we got the grilled shrimp platter, snow crab cluster, chilled blue crab claws, and boiled shrimp. Everything was seasoned very well and not too salty. Both of the boils were nice and spiced, and came with cocktail sauce and butter, potatoes and corn. The snow crab tasted like it was sliced with cloves, which was very good and different. The shrimp boil bisque smelled and tasted like a classic New Orleans shrimp boil, having shrimp, diced potatoes, and corn in it. All in all very good atmosphere and food! Will definitely come back again!

Yelp
Boil & Barrel is a great new spot in Lakeview, so of course I had to try it out! The seafood options are delicious -- fresh, flavorful, and seasoned just right. I especially loved the boil selections. Service was great. Will have to try it again soon to see how they have improved since opening. Love the outdoor seating. While I wouldn't mind slightly larger portions, everything definitely hit the spot and left me wanting to come back for more. A solid addition to the neighborhood for seafood lovers!

Yelp
The location is great and the restaurant itself has a nice vibe. You can tell it has potential, but unfortunately the food just didn't hit the mark for us. I started with the Shrimp Boil Bisque, and it really lacked flavor. I found myself searching for the ingredients. There were very few shrimp and only tiny bits of potato. It definitely needs more substance. The Caesar Salad tasted really good and the presentation was beautiful, honestly 5 stars there. But when it was set down, I was disappointed by the portion. It was basically 1/4 of a romaine stalk on the plate. Tasty, but not nearly enough. Especially for the $16 price tag. My wife went with the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and felt the same way. It wasn't bad, but nothing memorable. Just kind of flat on flavor. Overall, I think this place has a lot of potential. The setting and presentation are strong, but the food needs a little more attention to flavor and portion sizes to really match the experience. I know it just opened. I'd possible try them again in a few months.

Yelp
We were one of a few people that just arrived and the ambience was beautiful. Nice wooden tables and the golden pig was a cute touch to view upon entering. We sat at the bar and ordered an old fashion. They have several bourbons to choose from and their well happens to be Buffalo Trace. Not bad for a well. The ice cube had "B" engraved to add sophistication to the cocktails. For our meal, we had the catfish platter that consists of 2lb of fish, coleslaw, hush puppies and fries. There is an up charge (like most places) to substitute but why do that when everything was delicious. The service was decent and if we needed anything all of the team members behind the bar helped out. I will come back to this location again during happy hour!

Yelp
We had given them a month to settle down from their opening. It was worth the wait. We arrived just before Happy Hour ended. My wife ordered a glass of wine and I had the house old fashion. We ordered our meals and enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant while we waited. The food was great. My wife had the chicken sandwich she said had a great taste. I had the fried Gulf shrimp platter. They nailed it. Service was good and friendly. Definitely a hit.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Best Brussel Sprouts I've ever had. Ceviche was excellent. Service was excellent. Shrimp and Crab were outstanding. Great place for lunch and dinner. Good atmosphere.

Yelp
They have potential, the staff is not very attentive. The most attentive person was the young man bringing the food to the table. Beer on tap was flat.
