An import from the Carolinas, Bojangles has set up shop in the NASA/Clear Lake area. This location has been open for two weeks, per one of the employees here.
I've heard of Bojangles -- good things to be exact -- before so I was intrigued when I discovered this branch on Google. I went to an Astros game today, and was determined to have either lunch or dinner here afterwards.
Bojangles occupies the space that was once a Genghis Grill. It's very visible from the very busy Bay Area Boulevard. Walking inside, I was amazed by how clean the dining area was. I had their three-piece combo in mind after seeing it online, but the woman at the counter told me that the location is serving tenders in the meantime. For my first-ever Bojangles order, I got the five-tender combo with a biscuit and -- hold on to your hats -- dirty rice.
Well, well, well. Raising Cane's, of which there are two in the area, has some serious competition. The tenders here are big enough to fill you up in addition to being tasty. And the dirty rice? Not so bad, either. It's great that Bojangles serves the beloved Southern side dish while Popeye's, Church's, and KFC don't. I don't want to forget about the biscuit, either. Talk about fluffy and soft, just the way I like.
If there's one negative to point out, it's a minor one. I saw a male employee stomp out of the kitchen in a foul mood. He was yelling as he tried to exit the store with a co-worker following behind trying to calm him down. Hopefully, whatever it was that bothered him was resolved.
Another employee told me that Bojangles will open another branch in League City, which is great news to my ears since it's a bit closer to me than this one. The tentative opening for the newer restaurant is in June. Until then, the Bay Area location will get my hard-earned money.
