"When this Bolivian counter appeared at the Turnstyle Market in the passage that led to the Columbus Circle subway station, it caused a sensation with its meat stew-filled turnovers. Called saltenas, they were so juicy that eating them required special techniques, and we readily learned those techniques. For now, only the saltenas are available for bulk orders by DMing the business on Instagram or by texting SALTENA to 347-395-5481." - Eater Staff

"This Bolivian stall is the standout in the food hall in the subway underneath Columbus Circle. The savory pastries filled with meat stew known as salteñas are an ideal snack, and two make for a meal. Or opt for the garlic chicken and bacon sandwich paired with a cherimoya juice, a South American fruit know for its notes of pineapple and coconut." - Jasmine Ting, Eater Staff

"This has been a tragic decade for Bolivian restaurants in the city. There were once a handful, but now we have to content ourselves with the Bolivian Llama Party stall in the Turnstyle food court under Columbus Circle. Luckily, it turns out some pretty fine salteñas, the soupy Bolivian form of empanadas, along with pork or beef brisket sandwiches de cholas." - Robert Sietsema

The salteña > the empanada > the papusa. That’s my hierarchy of handheld foods. The doughy shell is rich in flavor on its own dipped into the provided green sauce, which brings the heat. The warm soupiness that accompanies the delicious meat inside the dough is always a great surprise. Pictured are the chicken salteña, pork slider, which itself is excellent (comes with bacon!), and the tumbo drink. Always love coming here. It’s inside the “turnstyle” food hall that’s in the 59th st Columbus circle station. 🇧🇴‼️

This place is awesome. Went here with the wife and baby and had a little bit of everything. The pork sandwich was ridiculous. The crunch from the veggies and the crispy bread was perfect with the super tender pork. And just the right amount of spice. The brisket Mac and cheese was such a worthy indulgence. I will definitely be back. Super quick service also!

Damn tasty Saltenas! First time here and i love it! I ordered the beef saltena: the Beni. It is basically a chopped beef hot pocket. It was steaming hot and full of broth. The dough was perfect- sweet but not too fluffy and not too flakey. The beef was flavorful. I also couldnt believe it but they also had fresh juices out of tropical fruits like passionfruit. ($4.50) I ordered a cherimoya.

Chicken is definitely better than beef, which was a bit too salty. Good for a quick bite. Make sure to try it first by using the Ritual app ( get one saltene for a dollar).

I haven't even finished my macaroni & cheese yet but felt the need to let you all know that this is off the charts good Mac. Foolishly didn't think to take a photo before digging in - but the presentation was lovely for a take-out restaurant. But who cares what it looks like? What matters is that it is DELICIOUS! Also, I love that the restaurant has a table showing their menu options right out front so you know what you're getting.

Love love love this place. Salteñas were fantastic. We ate breakfast and lunch there. They really need to sell tshirts! Great name!

I like the salteñas, and this place offers good ones . But you should keep it in mind they are somewhat spicy ( I only tried the beef salteña) for me was delicious and Just a little small. For lunch you have to buy two of them (6 dollars each)

Excellent service and super creative menu. They were completely willing to accommodate our specific food needs. And very polite about it. Also very helpful with all of our questions. Food was delicious!
