"When this Bolivian counter appeared at the Turnstyle Market in the passage that led to the Columbus Circle subway station, it caused a sensation with its meat stew-filled turnovers. Called saltenas, they were so juicy that eating them required special techniques, and we readily learned those techniques. For now, only the saltenas are available for bulk orders by DMing the business on Instagram or by texting SALTENA to 347-395-5481." - Eater Staff
"This Bolivian stall is the standout in the food hall in the subway underneath Columbus Circle. The savory pastries filled with meat stew known as salteñas are an ideal snack, and two make for a meal. Or opt for the garlic chicken and bacon sandwich paired with a cherimoya juice, a South American fruit know for its notes of pineapple and coconut." - Jasmine Ting, Eater Staff
"This has been a tragic decade for Bolivian restaurants in the city. There were once a handful, but now we have to content ourselves with the Bolivian Llama Party stall in the Turnstyle food court under Columbus Circle. Luckily, it turns out some pretty fine salteñas, the soupy Bolivian form of empanadas, along with pork or beef brisket sandwiches de cholas." - Robert Sietsema
