The Best Restaurants in Minneapolis’s Uptown Neighborhood - Eater Twin Cities

"Chef Facundo DeFraia’s salt-flecked, diamond-shaped pizzas have captivated Minneapolis since 2018. Put together with flaky empanadas and heaping salads, Boludo hits a Buenos Aires-style high note. The humita empanada combines sweet corn kernels, with spicy peppers and creamy Fontina cheese, while the well-balanced Peras pizza balances sweet pears with funky gorgonzola, pine nuts, and zippy dill. For something a little more traditional, the classic pizzas (pepperoni, margarita, chorizo etc.) are great bets." - Natalia Mendez, Julie Zhou

Google
Same great tasting pizza as the other Boludo locations in the Twin Cities. Food quality is incredibly consistent across all locations. Food comes out quick. There isn't as much Argentina decor as some of other locations, but still a clean and modern layout. Very well lit. Parking is a little annoying. There is only paid street parking, even if you're going there for a couple minutes for a pickup. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful in their suggestions.

Google
here’s the deal with boludo - it deserves all the hype and the pizza is fantastic and the service charge is weird for a counter service and self bus place. makes it feel more casual than it should be. i like all the locations but this one especially has some good seating. music can be sorta loud. it’s just a pizza place not a night club especially at lunch. i get an empanada or two to pregame. they are all great. bring some cards. have a drink. eat some pizza. see you at boludo.

I appreciate the way the staff treats students; they are extremely friendly. During my time studying there, I found the atmosphere to be calm and conducive to learning. Overall, everything is well-organized and enjoyable, making it a great place to be.

The carne empanada smelled great, was incredibly juicy and well seasoned, maybe slightly salty. Margarita pizza was thin with a good sauce ration and tasted great, decent snack size for 2 people. The shredded parmesan on the crust was a good touch to add flavor to the crust.

Hands down the best pizza I’ve had in a very long time. THIS is what pizza should be, and thanks to Boludo, it is! Perfectly cooked with pillowy soft crust that’s toasted just enough to give you a well balanced char taste. Sauce is made with fresh tomatoes and has a residual sweetness that balances exceptionally well with the salty pepperoni. Next time I’m going with the Margarita and I know it’s going to be awesome! Small place with a few table inside and about the same amount outside as well. Perfect for date night or for family pizza night. If you’re visiting Minneapolis you have to make it a point to stop by.

We love, love, love the food here, but tonight the chimichurri sauce was pretty gross. Mostly just oil. Pizza and empanadas were great. That sauce was nasty. It used to be our favorite thing. Even got us making our own. Wish we had had some of our own tonight.

Google
I used to think Boludo made some of the best pizza in the Twin Cities. The Campo is my favorite. I was excited when the Girard location opened in my neighborhood, but to my disappointment the pizzas were soggy beyond enjoyment. I assumed the new location was working out some kinks, and I have gone to the 38th location in the meantime. Tonight I tried the Girard location again, assuming it would be up to the usual quality. Unfortunately, the pizzas were completely soggy again. I hope Boludo can work out the consistency and quality control between their locations.

Google
Boludo in Minneapolis is a hidden gem for anyone seeking the best vegetarian pizza, empanadas, and churros in town! The vegetarian pizza is delightful, with a perfect balance of fresh ingredients and a flavorful crust. The vegetarian empanadas are packed with delicious fillings and baked to perfection, making them a must-try. And the churros – they are simply out of this world, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with just the right amount of sweetness. The friendly staff add to the overall wonderful dining experience. Highly recommended for all food lovers, especially vegetarians!

Yelp
We enjoyed the pizza and empanadas. I'd try both! We also had the house salad and it was excellent. The churro donuts were just ok-- more sticky than they were worth. But I'd recommend everything else. We'll be back. Also... know that it is counter service... not sit down in the traditional sense.

Yelp
We got it for delivery, so can't speak to the ambiance, but the pizzas were good. Got the pepperoni and campo. I love pepperoni cups, so no complaints and the chorizo was flavorful. I found the pizza a little salty, but everyone's a little different. I did reheat in the oven to keep a crisp crust

Yelp
Ambiance is so cute, it's a vibe in here with the dim lights, candles, and Latin music. Cleanliness is questionable - patrons walk through the kitchen to use the bathroom, so who knows who is going through there with what germs. It is also very self serve. Get your own plates, napkins, etc. which is questionable for me on a clean level. Pizza was ok. Nothing to rave about, and rather expensive. There isn't a guide as to the size of the football shaped pizza, we ordered two and ate half of both. Would have preferred sampling an empanada if we had known, our photos and menu make that hard to decipher. We ordered a regular pepperoni and a sarandara pizza. Pepperoni was a little more saucy than we prefer, and not a lot of pepperoni as pictured on online menu. Sarandara was a heavily cheesed pizza with a pound of arugula "salad" on top with a couple of cherry tomatoes cut in half. The arugula was dressed in just olive oil. I was highly disappointed in the way the greens were integrated into a pizza. Could have been done delicately with flavors that complimented one another. Service was alright, nothing exciting at all. Price seemed steep for what we got and our overall level of satisfaction.

Yelp
This is their newer, larger Uptown location and, according to my friend, is a major upgrade in size compared to their original spot. I ordered for online pickup and had no issues with the online system Toast and actual pickup. Food was provided promptly. And the food is very tasty! We got ourselves one humita empanada, margarita pizza, de la casa salad and churro donuts. I will note that it would have been nice to have more options for removals (i.e. remove meat) as there were many options that interested me because of ingredients but contained meat. Overall, very fresh ingredients and felt unprocessed and made with love. For how much bread/gluten I ate that night, I knew it was good quality by my lack of stomachache. The donuts were by far my favorite being the thicker cake donuts I enjoy so much. Would love to come back for a cocktail. I wasn't sure about what the parking was like for this center, I ended up stopping at McDonald's briefly to pick up my order although I don't necessarily recommend it.

Yelp
I really don't know this spot no parking and I had the pizza but very spendy and the pizza was really nice and the restaurant was really cool so it was nice

Yelp
Placed an order for pick up. First time! Ordered several empanadas; there's a wide variety! Tried the humita, the chicken, beef and leek ones. Very flavorful, good heat level. The leek one is my favorite: tastes like spinach artichoke dip in a pocket! Easy to find, easy to walk up. Counter service style dining. Only thing I'd have liked would have been if the empanadas were labeled inside the box to know what was what without having to cut open every single one.

Yelp
I got delivery and I was close by so it was still hot. The Empanada was delicious, Cheesy and gooey. I just thought the filling would have more flavor. The dough I found to be spot on. Crispy. Not soggy and good flavor. The pizza delicious flavor. I just wish the crust was a little more crisp. The pepperoni nice and a good crunch which I like

Yelp
Tried 6 empanadas with my BFF. We both loved the carne/beef, the humita/corn, and the espinaca/spinach. 4 bites each. Pollo/chicken was good, nice spice. The puerro/leek was stringy and left unfinished and the Jamon/ham had too much goopy sauce (cheese? Hard to tell) and also left behind. The staff there are very nice. There is ample room for dine-in but everyone was doing take out. That's the vibe in Uptown. But the pizzas are superior to all of the empanadas and a better deal for the money.

Yelp
Pepperoni pizza and empinadas were amazing. The best chimichurri I've had in a long time as well. The only negative was it was a little light on pepperoni.

Yelp
We stepped in for some quick snacks... we love empanadas and wanted to try this place for long time... we tried the Gorgonzola and the one with chicken empanadas... we absolutely loved both of them.. they were made to order, so it took some time for the food to come but the food was piping hot and tasted heavenly, especially the Gorgonzola one! So the wait was worth... I heard great reviews about the pizzas as well... would love to go back n try few of those.. this place is nice n cozy to sit around and enjoy your meal!

Yelp
Pretty good pizza and churro donuts. Fast easy and clean service from behind the counter. It's not a cheap pizza. But worth the splurge. I'd return.

Yelp
Came in 45 mins before closing and they seemed like they didn't want to serve us as we asked can we still order and they were hesitant. I was really looking forward to having dinner there with my family and was expecting nicer costumer service.

Yelp
What's going on at your Girard store?!? This is the pepperoni pizza I received last night. I've ordered so many times from your Nicollet/38th store. Is this the new quality of pizza to expect as you expand?

Lisa R.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. First time trying them. Pizzas, salad and a couple of empanadas were great. Those donuts are simply to die for!

Yelp
Food is great but I've ordered pickup multiple times and each time they haven't prepared part of the order or have given the order to someone else by mistake. Asked if they could do anything about lost time / poor service and was told "I don't know what to tell you. Wait 20 minutes for your pizza." Would love to keep supporting this business because the food is great and restaurants generally need support during these times but I'd guess the inconvenience and frustration with service will lead plenty of customers to explore other options. Hope that this review leads to better service and doesn't dissuade folks from at least trying it out and getting better service than I have.
