Chicago’s Best Halal Street Food | Eater Chicago

"A long-standing fast-casual option, Bombay Wraps gives customers a taste of Indian street food. They have two halal options: the lamb curry and beef kebab. They also have locations in Streeterville and Lakeview." - Nylah Iqbal Muhammad

Where To Eat Lunch In The Loop - Chicago - The Infatuation

"When you’re the James Bond of the office world rushing to audit some spreadsheets like the fate of the world depends on it, use your precious window of time for the fast-casual Indian food at Bombay Wraps. This counter-service spot specializes in paratha and roti wraps with fillings like tangy chicken tikka, spiced potatoes and cauliflower, or savory pieces of curried lamb. You can also get all of these in a rice bowl for something a little more substantial. Despite being a fairly small space, they actually have decent seating, but the fast service guarantees that you can quickly return to the office to complete your onslaught of tasks before the clock strikes five." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru

Seems to be a popular place as the queue was pretty long around noon. Took about 15 minutes to get our orders in another 10-15 to get our food. The food was good and was a good value for money compared to other places in the city, but was in no way authentic. The lamb roll was good and the lamb was tender and the egg bhurji wrap was just okay. Loved the sweet potato fries, and they were the highlight for me .They also have a bunch of chips and other snacks you can buy. Downtown Chicago in general does not have good Indian options, so this might be one see a few options to get sufficiently decent Indian food.

Google
Fast food Indian place serving wraps, rolls (sandwiches), and bowls. It’s on Ohio street with a small entrance. Seems to be very popular for takeout. Think of it like a chipotle / subway with Indian style wraps and sandwiches. I tried the chicken wrap and the paneer roll. Both were delicious - highly recommend their spicy sauce.

Google
Tried the paneer bowl with rice—it came with a salad on the side and was full of flavor. Also had the lamb wrap, which was really good! They offer some unique drinks that were surprisingly refreshing. The menu is partially halal, which is a big plus. Great spot for a quick and satisfying Indian fusion meal.

This is another time I am going to their Streeterville store and now not to collect my food order but to collect my raffle winning gift for the June 2025 month. Ali, the store owner and Garrick, the store manager were the best. They helped me in all such ways to avail the best food I could. They are like this with all costumers. As part of the raffle gift, I ordered: 2 Entrees- • Paneer Tikka Bowl • Aloo Gobi Bowl 2 Sides- • Messy Samosa Chat • Sweet Potato Chat 2 Drinks- • Mango Lassi • Kesar Lassi We had to eat vegetarian wholesome diet that includes rice on the day but I would also suggest others to try their non-vegetarian options, their mouth savouring wraps and rolls. About the raffle: They are organising an Instagram raffle “All Summer Long” for the month of June, July and August 2025 where they will be gifting 2 Entrees, 2 Sides and 2 Drinks to the winners for those who follow their page and comment on their raffle post by tagging friends. For more, please follow their Instagram page @bombayeatschicago. The winner will be announced after the end of each month on their Instagram page. So go and grab the oppurtunity and look out for their Instagram page for more such deals and offers.

I went in here not knowing what to expect as I was new in town. I got the lamb korma bowl and decided to dine in-the lamb was a pulled lamb and quite tasty but they gave me bits of burnt rice scraped from the bottom of the rice pot which ruined the experience. I approached the associate to ask for a rice replacement (not the meat as it was ok) and he said they were making the rice-well, as a restaurant owner in New York myself, I’d say if you knew your rice was at the bottom and you would have to scrape it to fill my order, what would you not offer me a substitution or ask me to wait till the rice got made? Anyway the rice eventually did get made and then he brought it to me but by then the lamb was out cold…so that was that for day 1. I decided to give it another try the next and got the same thing-it was about 30 min before closing and everything seemed rushed-they had very limited options but lamb was available so I got it in a paratha instead of rice What I got ended up being a frozen paratha made with all purpose flour (maida) and not the authentic Indian paratha made with durum whole wheat (atta) also the lamb tasted sour as if it had been left out for a tad too long…(the dal was good) Lesson learnt-When non Indian people try to sell Indian food with a chipotle concept steer clear-it will be far from authentic I felt sorry for the people who were Indian kids ordering samosa wraps and salad bowl with cauliflower potatoes….i guess someone’s keeping this place in business for lack of better options

Google
Am a regular at this place but one incident changed my perception of food safety standards here. Found a huge piece of metal in my food — an absolute food safety hazard. This is a serious violation of basic health and safety standards, and it makes me question the kitchen practices here. Totally unacceptable and dangerous.

Google
I ordered paneer wrap. The bread/paratha that was used was cold and didn't seem fresh. And the bread/paratha was too small to enjoy it as a wrap.. You have to get a spoon to eat.

Google
Great portions and prices, food is fresh and so flavorful. Great protein portions which feels hard to find these days. Clean and pleasant space. Kudos to the young black woman working at the counter tonight 8/27, who is so sweet and friendly, and made it feel like a familiar neighborhood spot for myself and others she chatted with.

Yelp
Bombay Eats is a casual Indian eatery located in downtown Chicago, offering a range of wraps, sandwiches, and bowls. The seating area is well-maintained, neat, and provides a comfortable dining experience. During my visit, I ordered a samosa sandwich and a paneer rice bowl. The samosa sandwich was flavorful and enjoyable, showcasing a good balance of textures and spices. However, the paneer rice bowl was disappointing. The paneer was extremely hard and lacked freshness, making it inedible. This dish requires significant improvement to meet the standard of quality expected from a place that otherwise seems promising. While the ambiance and cleanliness stand out, attention to ingredient quality--especially for staple items like paneer--is crucial. Bombay Eats has potential, but consistency in food quality will be key to ensuring a better dining experience.

Yelp
Bombay Wraps - A Solid Choice for Quick Indian Eats We visited Bombay Wraps recently and tried the Paneer Rice Bowl and the Samosa Sandwich. Overall, it was a good experience with a mix of highs and a few minor letdowns. The Samosa Sandwich was the highlight of our meal. It was flavorful and satisfying, with just the right blend of spices and textures. The samosa itself was perfectly crisp, and the chutneys added a nice punch, making it a great grab-and-go option. The Paneer Rice Bowl, on the other hand, fell a little short of expectations. While the taste was decent and the spices were on point, the dish was slightly dry, and the paneer wasn't as soft and fresh as we'd hoped. A little more sauce or a creamier texture could have elevated the dish significantly. The service was quick, and the staff was friendly, making the overall experience pleasant. Bombay Wraps is definitely worth trying for its innovative approach to Indian street food. With a few tweaks, the rice bowls could match the excellence of the sandwiches. We'll be back to explore more of the menu, especially given the variety they offer. Four stars for the delicious sandwich and promising flavors!

Yelp
Review Visit: November 26th, 2018 Bombay Wraps was... the bomb. A final stop on my post-blizzard trip to Chicago. After grabbing dessert and a coffee at Stan's Donuts, I walked with said coffee to Bombay for some real food for the first time on this day. While scouring my GPS for a place to eat at Stan's, I saw Bombay Wraps. On a cold day, a hot meal sounded wonderful. Of all the places detailed in this blog, there hasn't been an Indian place until know. It took about 10 minutes to walk there from Stan's, due to the traffic and the amount of people out and about. Once I got there, I was surprised to see it mostly empty during lunch time. Maybe I had just missed the rush. Oh well, all the easier for me to order. The menu was kind of foreign to me. I knew quite a few of the terms, but that doesn't mean I knew how they tasted. A few minutes passed of looking over the menu before I had to decide between the chicken tikka and chicken reshmi. In the end, I picked the chicken tikka. The lady cooking it asked if I wanted it spicy. I quickly said "yes" before she could finish her question. The way they make it is almost like subway. They have all the ingredients out and make it as you walk towards the cashier. I was given my food before I could get my change from paying. I grabbed a seat at one of the stools that was along the front wall, so I could look out of the store front as I ate. I noticed my wrap was smaller than I expected but that was fine as I had most of a massive donut a few minutes before. As I tried to pick up this soaking and messy wrap, trepidation set in. I was about to taste my first Indian cuisine and I was nervous. Wrap in mouth, I take my first bite... and am pleasant surprised by how delicious it was. Once I finish the first bite, the spicy kicked in and I took my first sip of the coffee I brought with me. It did nothing to settle the slight burn that was setting in. Wow. I took my time eating the wrap as I was trying to enjoy all the new flavors and tastes I was experiencing. It was delightful. Sadly, the wrap was a lot smaller than I expected it to be. For $5 and change, I was expecting a bit more to the wrap but the quality of what I got couldn't be beat. Each bite was filled full of flavor and a spicy kick that couldn't be beat. Alas, this was my last stop before I resumed some family duties. I was in a hurry to get back to where I needed to be that I forgot to snap a good photo of the inside. It was a bit sparse when it came to decorations but there was plenty of room to handle a lunch/dinner rush. This may have been my first Indian cuisine sampling but I doubt it will be my last.

Yelp
Ambiance: Nice, clean, welcoming. Pretty busy at 2:30pm on Sunday. Employees (younger gal and guy) were meh as customer service went. The gal cashier was unsure if anything with sesame or nuts. She asked the guy and he confirmed none used. NOTE: Peanut allergy people, since peanuts are legumes, they do use peas. Peas are listed. It was end of day when I got my order, and I would have thought perhaps they might want to offer options. I guess when it's a Too Good To Go app order, they don't think they need to ask. I did also inquire about spiciness. I was told no. Wrong. The cauliflower with peas SPICY hot. The chickpea thingy not as spicy. Disliked it all. Actually, my "tastebud dislike" matched the "odor dislike." I won't be returning. BTW, the location had a number of people in there eating and others ordering. So, they were not lacking for customers. This was all, as always, my experience. I always encourage you to try, maybe you will like it?

Yelp
We catered Bombay Eats for our non profit board meeting and were thoroughly happy with the experience! We ordered a bunch of wraps (chicken, beef, veggie, paneer), samosas and salad and the food was a major hit. The catering process was super smooth, the food showed up on time with utensils, condiments etc. Huge thanks to Ali, Garrett, Freddy and team for coming through - love the ownership, staff and food!

Yelp
This place is located on the loop. It's down the street from the Hilton and across the street from Massage Envy. We ordered the bowl. Chicken Tikka-Grilled chicken breast marinated in traditional tandoori spices topped with a tikka masala sauce. It comes with Basmati Rice & Wild Rice or House Salad (lettuce, spring mix, carrots). We asked for mild, it was still a bit spicy, but good. Next time I think I'll order the Paneer. The serving was a healthy size. I recommend this place to you. It's a solid meal.

Yelp
Bombay Eats offers solid wraps that surprised me in their flavor. My favorites are the chicken tikka, chickpea chana masala, and paneer. The chicken tikka is well-seasoned and juicy, while the chana masala provides a nice, hearty flavor. The paneer wrap is also quite good. The portions are generous, and the atmosphere is relaxed and causal. The service is also friendly and helpful. If you're in the mood for some fast and decent Indian street food, it's a good spot worth checking out.

Yelp
This is a fast-food style eatery offering delicious Indian sandwiches and wraps. They also have bowls and several sides. I had previously ordered online a few times and always liked the taste. Stopped by for a quick bite and again loved it! We ordered chickpea chana and chicken tikka sandwich rolls and a Samosa sandwich wrap - all were super tasty. They also ask for spice level - we did medium and it was perfect. Would definitely like to try other options on the menu.
google avatar

Peter P.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with this place, neat little boxes for the food. It's one of the modern ordering systems, where you use the kiosk. Still getting used to these. On to the food, you can select the sandwich of your choice, condiments and the spice level. If you're a curry lover you're set. If you're not, look for the little flaky samosas. The sandwiches are basically kebabs on pita bread or a roll. Very well seasoned and loaded with complimentary ingredients. Value was pretty good for Streeterville.

Yelp
Wow - fast casual, very inexpensive, and delicious Indian style food! We got the chicken tikka wrap, messy samosa, and messy potato chips. They taste very rich but not too oily or salty, which is my preference. The chicken tikka wrap is fairly flavorful, just a bit messily presented which is okay - can't really complain for $6.49 for a sizable amount of food. The chicken is just a bit dry but they give a lot of chicken - definitely more of a quantity over quality type of place. The messy samosa is very good - slightly spicy and super flavorful, and the chickpeas fill you up. The messy potato chips is topped with chicken tikka which is a weird combination but it is a satisfying appetizer. Food came out fairly quick, and you seat your serve and get your own utensils, napkins, and water. Perfect for a quick meal especially in a busy work day!
google avatar

Chloe F.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the samosa wrap made with roti. The roti itself was really good and the samosa filling was delicious. I also tried the channa masala, which was good, but I'm not sure I would get it again. Fun way to make Indian food fast-casual.
google avatar

Johnfavour N.

Yelp
Bombay eats is a great spot for a quick lunch in downtown! The chickpea chana salad and samosa salad bowls are actually quite filling, since they both come with chickpeas. The samosa salad bowl is one of my favorites, the crushed up samosas are similar to croutons and you get to choose the type of chutney/dressing on top. The dressing is super flavorful and not too spicy. I also like to get the paratha wrap with another paratha on the side. The wraps are the most economical of the options. The service is similar to Chipotle where they put the dish together in front of you, and I've never encountered a huge line even during lunch rush. I like that there are always a ton of vegetables/legumes in each dish.

Yelp
One of the best north Indian meals I've had in the US. We went early (11:30ish) and ordered paneer and potato wraps and messy samosas, and they were sooo good and full of flavor. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Rohan B.

Yelp
Loved all the three wraps we tried: Potato Cauliflower, Samosa and Chickpea Chana. Definitely must stop for a quick bite when in the Magnificent Mile area.
google avatar

Coady A.

Yelp
Great spot for fast casual Indian. The service was excellent and I really enjoyed the chicken wrap. If I had one wish, there would be a side item with paneer.
google avatar

Tyler C.

Yelp
Great food cheap. Love the spice!! Excellent food!! And right by downtown Chicago. Great place!!
google avatar

Leo M.

Yelp
Lacking Indian authenticity big time. I mean anyone can dish out ultra basic 2/10 Indian food wrapped in a frozen flaky paratha, the kind that Deep and other brands sell in stores. A roll can be easily devoured in 4-5 bites. Service and ambiance were ok. The lassi flavors were great. Not sure if I'll visit again.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
Both the Loop and Lakeview locations of this business are totally worth visiting / ordering from. The wraps are delicious with high quality chicken and lamb and their sauces are SO GOOD I always ask for extra of each. I highly recommend the spicy chicken tikka wraps with extra sauce and add fire sauce (if you can handle Indian heat levels).
google avatar

Simran S.

Yelp
Bombay Eats is a quick filling Indian meal. They have multiple options in rolls, wraps and bowls. I always go for the potato cauliflower and paneer wraps. I think you need just 1 for a quick meal but two if you're pretty hungry. Service is quick and they ask you for various extra ingredient options. It's pretty neat inside the restaurant. They also have a rewards program so join it and keep earning!

Todd B.

Yelp
Fast, tasty food that hits the spot! We haven't been on this place as we walked by and it was a good lunch.
google avatar

Ash S.

Yelp
Really nice twist to Indian food. We really liked the bowls. They have so many different Indian type of juices available over the counter. Plenty of spaces to sit

Vinit D.

Yelp
Great fast food. Tastes delicious. Affordable prices. Healthier and more vegan options would be welcome, but Bombay Wraps hits the spot for me.
google avatar

Anwesh D.

Yelp
If you are new to Indian food, then this is perhaps a good introduction. For me however, the wraps were only average. They make a great tasty snack but it's quite bland compared to actual Indian food. The staff were very friendly and timely despite being quite busy.
google avatar

Brea S.

Yelp
This restaurant is slowly becoming one of my favorite Indian quick eats. The wraps are flavorful and filling. They say one wrap is a snack and two is a meal and I would agree. This time around I ordered the Lamb Curry wrap and the mild chicken Tikka wrap. This was first time trying the Lamb Curry wrap and it's a showstopper. The chicken Tikka wraps are always very good so you can't go wrong there. We ordered for delivery and the wraps were packaged very nicely. Would 100% recommend.
google avatar

Ami A.

Yelp
The menu was easy to follow. The food was made fresh. The prices were just right. We picked up the Chicken Reshmi wrap, the Chicken Tikka wrap, and the lamb curry wrap, all on the flaky paratha. We also ordered the samosas and the messy sweet potato fries. I particularly enjoyed the Chicken Reshmi wrap and the messy sweet potato fries and will willing go back to try the other items in the menu. The lamb curry wrap was very hearty and decadent. I didn't not get a bite of the chicken tikka wrap. No sharing from THaT family member. ; ) The flaky paratha was really good and not oily. I tried the spicy green sauce, which was not overtly spicy, and the yogurt sauce, which was mild. I'm looking forward to try the vegetarian dishes next time. A good experience!!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
The food is quite tasty. I don't know if they truly gave me the spicy or not because the spicy chicken was not spicy at all; I might have been given the white boy "spicy" treatment because of the location. I will try the spicy next time with a desi to confirm my suspicions.
google avatar

Grace Y.

Yelp
Bombay Eats is a great option for grab & go, and the food was so good that we visited twice on our Chicago trip. I ordered the Chicken Reshmi Wrap and Samosas both times, but there were many other options that looked so good. The bread was chewy and the yogurt sauce made for the best wrap I've ever had. Will 100% be back next time I'm in the city.
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
Love coming here, great food. A great take on Indian food that you can't really get anywhere else. My favorite thing is the lamb curry wrap.
google avatar

Ronak P.

Yelp
Definitely vegetarian friendly and staff is pretty cool. The taste is delicious, you may not regret. I went during the cold winter and rainy day so maybe the reason the restaurant was empty but ambiance is pretty cool The only thing threw me off was Indian tea which cost $4 bucks. Rest is worth it to try
google avatar

Jonah M.

Yelp
This place is the best. You can get a filling meal for less than ten bucks and the food is fantastic. We always get their wraps (love the tikka wrap with the spicy sauce) and their mango lassi is amazing. I keep meaning to post a picture of the food but I always eat it before I remember ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
google avatar

Jenna L.

Yelp
Yum! Always fresh and delicious! Love the green chri they sauce, could drink it with a straw!

Sreyesh S.

Yelp
Ordered a vegetarian meal for my mother. Received a non-vegetarian meal instead, after being charged. Food itself was fine and the price was reasonable, but still was a real disappointment.
google avatar

Rogin G.

Yelp
The best way to describe Bombay Wraps is like the Indian version of Chipotle or Subway. While their menu is not vast, they offer multiple options for each dish, so you truly can have it your way! 1) You can have a wrap and can choose from roti or paratha. 2) You can have it as a sandwich, served on a roll. 3) You can have it as a bowl. There are two options for this. A rice bowl with your choice of curry and fillings served over Basmati rice or if you opt for no rice, you can choose a salad bowl to layer your curry and fillings on. Whether you prefer vegetarian or non-vegetarian, there is something for everyone. Wife and I ordered a Chicken Tikka rice bowl, a Beef Kabob roti wrap and a Lamb Curry Paratha Wrap. All were delicious but the Chicken Tikka rice bowl was definitely our favorite. The food is fresh, fast and flavorful! The restaurant itself has ample seating to accommodate singles, couples, and families. A unique and nice added touch is they have a small, nicely organized section that offers a small variety of Indian spices, pickles, biscuits (Indian cookies), etc., for sale. Their prices are quite reasonable. Depending on what you need, you may be able to get your dinner and shopping done and save yourself a trip to the Indian store. We enjoyed the visit and told our friends and family they have to try it. We definitely will be back on our next visit to the Windy City.
google avatar

Aarti B.

Yelp
Delicious Kati rolls bursting with flavor! The Paneer and Cauliflower, Potato, Peas Kati Roll wrapped in the crispy flaky Paratha was divine. Typically, you choice 1 type of filling, but the server was kind enough to let me both - 1/2 Paneer and 1/2 Cauliflower, Potato, and Peas. My hubby enjoyed 3 freshly grilled Roti (almost as good as my mothers!) and Chicken Tikka. The yogurt-based Mango Lassi was sweet and refreshing and perfect way to cool off in the sweltering heat. If you're craving some curry or Kati Rolls, Bombay Wraps has got you covered!

Deepak M.

Yelp
Very good food, with quick serving time with only 3 minutes, I highly reccomend this restaurant because of its amazing food
google avatar

Vikash K.

Yelp
Cool quick bite place to eat at in downtown. Not a bad price either. The paneer wrap was good but very soft paneer. Didn't have much form or shape to it. Did like the chutney and onions to add flavors.
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Delicious! Could have had a second Chicken Tikka wrap! It's been a week since I've been there and I'm still thinking about how delicious this was! Most people order a wrap and a side. You order at the counter and pick it up from there when it's ready. This place is cheap for lunch and has a great atmosphere! The staff are very friendly and helpful. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick or sit-down meal.
google avatar

Himadri V.

Yelp
I love having paneer in my tacos! If you are the same, you will love this place. Five star for the variety in salsa.

Mital C.

Yelp
Great food! Fast service and friendly staff. They prepared the wrap In front of us and had few Indian snacks such as crackers to purchase. The paneer wrap was delicious and the chutney for the samosas were delicious! The sweet potato fries were fresh and not frozen. Definitely will go back again.

Amanda H.

Yelp
Really delicious! And the food was ready so fast! Highly recommend if you're in a hurry and want something better than fast food.

Farah P.

Yelp
The food here is delicious! I wanted something quick to eat and walked by this place. The beef kabob wrap is amazing! I'm coming back for sure
google avatar

Arwa A.

Yelp
I ordered from this place on UberEats and it did not disappoint! It's the perfect way to combine authentic South Asian food into an easy to eat form with rolls and wraps and no mess. I was a big fan of the chicken tikka wrap and the mango lassi. Sure the portions were a little small, but the flavor was great, and sometimes this can be a big hit or miss but here it was definitely a hit. I was really missing my home cuisine and this place delivered. I think it's a great place to stop by for a quick bite, and combines that fast food element with traditional cuisine. The prices are decent too, and I think you will find something you like whether it's meat or vegetarian.

Caroline P.

Yelp
We order here all the time. Great food and quick delivery. Their beef kabobs are amazing! Best we've had in the city!!
google avatar

Cara S.

Yelp
simply put... (and it's the logo on the wall...) it's fresh indian food fast! samosa wrap was amazing, and of course the bread is perfect and light and flaky... tikka bowl with rice (mild is even spicy here, but ummm... it is indian food ‍ the mango lassi isn't overly sweet but it's not overly sour as some are either, pretty darn delicious! we will be back, that's for sure! See y'all again next time i'm in town!!! the staff behind the counter seem glad to be here and make it a super comfortable and clean place!
google avatar

Khadijah H.

Yelp
So I went here on 10/11/2018 for my lunch while at work and was surprisingly surprised. Upon entering the set up is Chitpole style.. open window kitchen with the ingredients open for the customer to view. I order the Chicken Tikki wrap and an order of samosa. The food was pretty good for it to be fast food. Cons?? Personally, I am a person that likes bang for my buck and the wrap was justtttt a bit too tiny for $4.79 and $3 for three small samosas. Pros?? Open window kitchen and you can alter your meal if there is an ingredient you don't want. Did i mention that there is also a miniature grocery store attached?! Yes. Small snacks, treats and drinks that resemble the culture of the food are sold there. I did not try any of them but i was very tempted. Going back? I would go back and possibly order a rice bowl or roll rather than a wrap.

Mike M.

Yelp
Nothing fancy, just very tasty and affordable Indian street food. We eat here quite often and have never been disappointed.

Michael E.

Yelp
I got the Chicken Tikka Masala Salad. It was fantastic. Fresh, fast, and great ingredients.

Sarah B.

Yelp
Quick and delicious!! Close to hotels. Very clean restaurant. Service was super nice and helpful when ordering. I would recommend.

Yelp
I had the lamb curry wrap and the messy samosa. Both really good. They have halal options (the beef and lamb only). The lamb had a great taste to it. I recommend this place!
