The 16 Best Restaurants In Paddington

"A white tablecloth spot with the kind of attentive service that’s ideal for a business dinner or a meal with your in-laws, this high-end Indian restaurant on Connaught Square serves some pretty stand-up Punjabi dishes. We ordered a lot of stuff and loved the food. Would highly recommend dahi bhalla papri chat, afghani momos, butter chicken, pao bhaji and mango lassi. All of this was heaven! You can order without a second thought. Authentic Indian taste! We also had vada pao and vegetarian grill which was okay and would not recommend.

Google
I wish I could give this restaurant 7/5, phenomenal doesn't even cover how great this place is. The staff are all very friendly and did everything they could to make sure we were happy and that we enjoyed everything. The atmosphere was very calm and the inside was beautiful. We were lucky to have Melbourn as our server, he was fantastic. Very attentive and friendly, while also giving us time to enjoy our food. The food was incredibly flavorful, the chef's clearly a master at their craft. The food was mild enough for my wife who can not handle much heat, if you like the heat the way I do I would suggest requesting they make it spicier for you. I've had a lot of Masala Chai and this was one of the best, a perfect amount of spice and not too sweet (meaning it was so good on its own they didn't have to add extra sugar to make it taste good). Definitely the best I've had since we've been in London. If you are visiting the area and enjoy Indian cuisine this restaurant is worth every pound! We enjoyed the food so much we forgot to take a picture of the main courses until they were almost all gone.

Had a lovely Father's Day lunch tasty food, friendly staff, great ambience. Thank you for accommodating our requests. Looking forward to visiting again.

Google
Old school and somewhat on the pricey side. Attention to detail is a little sloppy, as in the table being set in a haphazard way upon arrival. Overlapping staff, taking orders in a way that makes for avoidable mistakes. Entree recommendations were good and the curries that followed were very well made. Nice selection of bread and rice, while the beer selection was poor as expected. Butter chicken and the King Prawn Bhuna stood out in a very positive way. Overall a nice dining experience, lacking the edge to make it more than a one-off visit.

Google
The food here was the best indian food I’ve had in London! Super tasty, with the Lamb being so flavorful and succulent. Robert was so helpful and attentive since we had to rush on our way to the airport but was more than helpful and accommodating. Best meal in London!

Google
Pretty average Indian food (partly because good Indian food in London is a pretty high bar). So many great Indian food restaurants in every borough makes this please somewhat mediocre. Don’t get me wrong everything was fine, just not spectacular. It was also quite pricey for what it was and the portions were very small. I think they really tried to make the place feel fancy and fine dining-ish but you definitely don’t get that vibe or at least it’s a knockoff fine dining vibe. The service was very good and were attentive and quick with all our needs.

Google
Tried this place twice, once with a client and second time with friends. Both the time the food was good, authentic Indian taste and personal service. Dishes tried Chicken Vindaloo, Malai kebabs, Aloo vegetable, Jeera rice, Paneer Chilly, Paneer mutter and roti. See pics for portion size. There is off street parking available and the area is safe for parking. It’s around 15 min by car or cab from Soho.

Google
We had a great experience at Bombay Palace! We ordered the Pappad, the Punjabi Samosas, Tandoori Aloo, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chana Masala, Paneer Makhni, Jeera Pulao, and Kewal Chawal. Our meal was delicious, and the service was amazing! Our servers were very attentive and friendly. Our favorite dish was the Paneer Makhni — it was so creamy and full of flavor!

Yelp
This restaurant was walking distance from where we stayed in London, so we came here. Service needs a LOT of improvement. Food was a hit and miss. The wait times however were insane. Restaurant was 90% empty; but we waited 15-20 minutes before someone could come take our orders. Wait time for the food was 30 -40 minutes. We were losing our patience. Ordered the Bhel puri. It was spicy-- and although I enjoy spicy food, not everyone did. For the main course we ordered Roomali roti, aloo parathas, fried rice, and for curries we had Palak paneer and malai kofta. Curries were not good at all. The kofta curry was overloaded with cream; the spinach in the palak paneer was bland. Palak paneer is one of the easiest curries to make so it was surprising how they missed the mark on this one. All other items were great. Fried rice was the best I have had. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you are staying in the area.

Yelp
We were staying nearby and stopped in here one night for supper. The restaurant and bar areas are nicely decorated and provide a cozy atmosphere. We had the lamb Rogan josh and the tandoori salmon. Both were excellent. The lamb was very well spiced, but it was not overwhelming and the meat was incredibly tender. The salmon was simple and delicious as well. The service was excellent and the staff made themselves available to all our needs.

Yelp
Amazing food, great wait staff. Really enjoyed the garlic naan. Son loved the chicken Marsala

Yelp
Visiting London, this was the meal I was most looking forward to. Bombay Palace delivered that and more. The food was absolutely amazing. We started with some Papadum and the chutney that came with it changed everything I thought about chutney, truly life changing. We got the Paneer Tikka masala and the Nalli Gosht. Both were perfectly done. Along with the food the service was impeccable. Someone checked on us every 5-10 minutes, everyone was very helpful and polite. 11/10 would go back and recommend to all of my friends when they visit!

Yelp
While in London, it is always appropriate to try some of the best Indian food outside of Asia. Bombay Palace does not disappoint and will leave your taste buds impressed. Your palate is greeted with chutneys and minty yogurts for the roti or pappadam starter, and our samosa order fit the same taste profile, with a perfectly crispy exterior surrounding the sumptuous mix of chickpeas and spices. The staff will be the first to tell you that spicy here means 'truly, we are not even kidding, hot...like burn your tongue, hot,' so there should be no surprise that there is a bit of heat is just about every dish. The Rogan Josh curry was as close to perfect as you'll find this side of Delhi, with a gravy that appears to have retained every but of flavor from the lamb and the spices, while the Vindaloo announces itself like a tiger to your tongue...there is is no slow burn...the heat will grab you right up front. The house made chili oils and pastes are well showcased, and the Naan bread calls to be eaten while still hot, with its crispy exterior and chewy inside (it actually hardens up as it cools, so eat it quickly). The wine list isn't anything amazing, but you're sure to find a bottle in your price range and your taste profile. The seating is quite upscale, with some intimate covered booths at the side of the dining room. You'll be able to hold a conversation while eating, even when the room is full. Recommended for anyone looking at a wonderful night out in West London.

Yelp
This was one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. The service was excellent and the food was incredible. Pictures is the samosa chaat and chicken tikka masala. The samosa chaat was the surprise hit for me. I'm not taking away from the mandala either, it was rich and very good. I will come back when I visit London again.

Yelp
Just kind of ok. Nice service and good seating area with heaters (not strong enough though). Food was a bit overpriced but serviceable. I had the salt lassi which I really liked at least - thick and rich. Portions were generous too! On the whole you won't go wrong here but there are better places for Indian food in London :)

Yelp
First off. The 15% off your first visit coupon is no longer valid according to an unseen manager. Onion Bahji appetizer was spot on. Excellent tamarind chutney accompanies. Main course is a bit of a mystery. I ordered chicken tikka masala which I did not see on the menu but there were other masala dishes available so I figured they could manage it. Chicken was cooked perfectly but the sauce was brown, thick and gravy like. I've never seen this before being sold as masala. Definitely a different taste than I am used to as well. Everyone does things a bit different so maybe it was me. Naan was wonderful and the rice was perfect. I'd eat here again but order only from the menu.

Siddhant T.

Yelp
Seems like it's closer to Pakistani/Bangladeshi food than Indian. Paneer used was Frozen, gravy was good though, Pao was not really the Pao but Bagel bun, Bhaji tasted terrible - tangy/tomato flavour. Had to throw away the food

Yelp
I am not an expert on Indian food, but this restaurant was very good. The doorman at our hotel recommended it. Please remind me to give him an extra large tip, will you? Anyway, the service was exceptional, starting when we entered the restaurant and were warmly greeted by the host. Later, while browsing the menu I asked our waiter what "masala" was ( well, I did admit I was a novice when it came to Indian food, right?). In addition to explaining what it was our waiter brought a spoonful of the spices from the kitchen for me to smell and taste. Wow! Great service! For dinner my GF and I had lamb, eggplant and Dahl (lentils). All the dishes were excellent. To continue the story, my GF and I ate here again the following night! This time we had Tandoori Salmon and Bhindi (okra). The food was great and our waiter was also very personable.

Yelp
I was looking up the top Indian restaurants in London and most of the restaurants on this list were michelin star restaurants. I figured if Bombay Palace is being mentioned in the same list as michelin star restaurants it must be good. After checking the website, I saw Bombay Palace does Thali Tuesday for lunch and dinner. I was sold after that and booked a reservation. The service was great. They were friendly and attentive throughout the entire meal. The restaurant is very clean and gives off a nice atmosphere. The food was so good. We started with Onion Bhaji & Punjabi Samosa. Both were great, some of the best samosas I've eaten. However, the real treat was the thali. I ordered the non veg thali. My favorite part about thali is being about to sample each little dish. Each dish was very good both on an individual and as a whole. My favorite was definitely the lentils. If you are craving good Indian, I highly recommend Bombay Palace.

Yelp
Great food and I must say exceptional service. Beautiful place and the menu was easy to understand. Food was on point and spicy specially the fish. Naan bread was warm and delicious great wine selection. I would go back there and try other dishes for sure.

Yelp
Had a Christmas lunch at Bombay Palace today...we were pleasantly surprised by just about everything! - Service is top notch. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly. - Ambiance is great. Not overly fancy but there at so many windows which lends an open and airy feel. - Loved that there was no overpriced fixed price menu for Christmas. - Food was overall really good: *Naan received rave reviews from the husband and daughter. *Chicken Tariwala also received good reviews from the husband and daughter (I don't eat chicken.) *Chana Masala was very good! *Bhindi Masala was good but very oily. *Kewal Chawal was just boiled rice, nothing special. *Roomali Roti wasn't the best but that could just be my preference for thicker bread. We really enjoyed our lunch today and we'll definitely return.

Yelp
Some of the best Indian ever. Former chef at Bukara. Cheese and spinach mukhani, Goan green Fish curry, Chicken Tikka masala. Wow, so delicious. Forget how great real Indian is. Just can't find it this good in the US

Yelp
Everything about this place was fantastic! The service was attentive, friendly, and quick. Even more importantly, the food was out of this world amazing! The roti was fresh and the raita was great. I had the tandoori salmon, which was perfectly cooked and the chicken korma was also perfection. To top it off, the gulab jamen for dessert was incredible. So glad I stopped by!

Yelp
Had one night in London and wanted to try the Indian food everyone raves about. Searched a location close to Paddington Station and were so lucky to have chosen Bombay Palace. Our waiter helped us make choices we would not have made on our own. Could never make any Indian as good as this. You can't go wrong eating here whether a local or a visitor like us.

Yelp
I went here with some friends of mine who love Indian food. The inside atmosphere was really nice. Their seemed to bit stressed out .. . They were trying to hurry up and scramble around too much and kicking anything that came in their way. They in short needed to take a chill pill. Anyway their food was very North Indian. Food was tasty but very very very oily. I will probably not go back.

Yelp
Did a take out from this place. Ordered very basic dal and Jeera rice. The rice was really good. Well made and smelled also delicious. The Dal Tadka however was a bit of a disappointment. It was runny and didn't taste very good. The combination still sat ok together. Liked the papad crisps they gave as compliments too.

Jenny R.

Yelp
The food here is some of THE best Indian I've ever had. More authentic than most! We ordered 4 dishes and all were off the charts with flavor. Perfect amount of spice to add a kick but not uncomfortable. ;) The only reason it got a 4 over 5 for me is because I hate places that charge for every single thing. Rice, Naan, water etc. but probably more common in London so maybe no surprise to others. Food alone... a 10!

Yelp
My local Indian restaurant and what a place to have nearby. The food is flavorful and mouthwatering. Chicken tikka, Tandor shrimp and salmon are all delish. The samosas were tasty. The service is speedy and friendly. Really like this place.

Super K.

Yelp
Service was abismal waited almost half an hour to be served and when we first entered the restaurant we were asked if we had a reservation in a derogatory term in an otherwise empty restaurant. Our plates were dirty too they took 15 minutes too fix that. The food is not authentic hell the mango lassi is store bought. The food tastes like it was prepared by a bloody American who thinks that India is a damn state (not good). It's not great is ok but not great I would definitely recommend Noorjahan's 2 as an alternative as it's close by and much better. We later ordered delivery one time since it was the only Indian place open at the time. We had asked to pay with a card and were told the driver would have a card machine he didn't. We had to call and give our info just to get our food! As stated earlier I recommend Noorjahan's 2 over Bombay palace, or if you dislike Noorjahan's eat some where else the mediocre food is not worth the garbage service and other flaws.

Yelp
Loved the food and the ambience. Service was good too. A little pricey but worth it as it is nicely located. Would come back again to try all their dishes

Francis P.

Yelp
Unusual for me to give 5 stars, but the beautiful, calm environment featuring delicious food and superbly friendly service really impressed. Quality was very evident throughout but no pretentiousness or insistence on offering more. Though it was lunchtime and slow, it was head and shoulders above the other Indian cuisine I have sampled around town and would strongly recommend to anyone in the area.

Yelp
We had the a most amazing dinner with wonderful service. our entire table shared 3 dishes amongst four people, a great bottle of wine picked out by the waiter. I would definitely come here again.
google avatar

Ali V.

Yelp
We had a great work celebratory dinner here, after I passed my viva. The chole was really delicious (lots of flavour and spice, not too oily), as was the chilli paneer. The saag paneer seemed a bit less exciting to me. They have a good selection of wines, and even once the place got busy as the evening went on, there was always someone to keep our water and wine glasses full. It's a nice place inside, definitely more upscale than most of the Indian options in the area. Though still casual enough.

Yelp
If I could give this place six stars I would. That's it. No really. End of review. Now for the big test - vaping ...... Puffing away and no response yet (quick aside, the actual menu doesn't bear a huge relationship to the web site - no main under £14.50). Still puffing .... Well that's enough vaping for now - I'll leave it on the table and see if any eyebrows are raised. If not then, apart from the slightly higher cost, I find it impossible to fault this place. Given the chance, I'd move in. Ps. A lot of Americans during the week. They're generally parochial, so take that as a good sign.

JM F.

Yelp
This would be the Business Class of Indian restaurants in London. On the plus side, service is prompt and courteous. I was asked 3 times if I had already ordered (I had). On the minus side, the Nalli Gosht was alright but not great, and the decor made me want to read my book more avidly. Rather expensive.

Alan S.

Yelp
This is a posh place to eat curry, but it has some nice dishes that you don't normally find in your usual curry houses. It has branches in the US, Canada, Malaysia and India. My favourite dishes are Balouchi Raan, Goan Fish Curry and Tangri Kebab. They have two different types of papadum - plain and spiced - served with the usual mint yoghurt, mango chutney, and extremely tangy pickled lime. Their lassi is nice and thick, served with some nuts and green cardamom (so be careful!). Balouchi Raan - this is a large lamb shank, that has been marinated with spices and slow cooked until the meat is falling off the bone. It is very meaty, with a rich flavour. This is a dry curry that resembles the Malaysian rendang. My friends and I love this dish. Goan Fish Curry - a tangy fish curry, cooked with pieces of meaty white fish (the menu says Kingfish), and a spicy red curry, which isn't too thick, and is more like the south indian watery curries (equally spicy, but without the coconut milk). Tangri Kebab - 4 chicken drumsticks, coated in a green paste made from herbs and yoghurt, cooked in the tandoor and served on a sizzling hotplate with onions. Very tasty. Their Tarka Dal (yellow lentils) is a nice and thick stew, with strips of ginger that enhance the flavour. Some of their dishes can be surprisingly spicy (Pindi Chana - punjabi chickpeas), so it's best to check with the waiter if you're not sure. A nice place to enjoy Indian food in a more upmarket setting than the normal baltis/curry houses, with some unique and tasty dishes.

Yelp
My favourite Indian restaurant in London. Delicious and authentic food- in fact the place is always filled with Indians (often big groups celebrating a special occasion), which is always a good way to measure how good the food is. I also often get home delivery from here.

Yelp
A pretty good upscale Indian restaurant, offering traditional Indian food with the luxury presentation. Most of their dishes are indeed prepared up to a very high standard and the service is excellent. The choice on the menu is fairly broad, although I've seen more selection at some simpler local Indian places that I've been too. Generally though, it's certainly a good place to enjoy Indian food in style.

Yelp
A great resturant but can be a little pricey but still in my view worth the money. Been twice so far and food has been consistently good.

Yelp
I would have to say the food is truly amazing here. We went out for dinner last night and the food was gorgeous! They had a good range of food on the menu and the price was ok, not too expensive. The setting was nice and the service was fantastic - we were looked after really well the whole evening. A thumbs up!

Yelp
Have eaten here a number of times and always had great food. Great service and atmosphere.

Yelp
Large comfortable restaurant, fitting in with the upmarket area it resides. Mixture of standards and more unusual dishes. Staff faultless. Food was of a very good standard. Priced as would expect for the area and type of restaurant. I wouldn't regard it as expensive. The BBQ/grill dishes come in Medium and Small. Medium is a large portion. I had Changezi Champen which was 4 good sized lamb chops. I had the chicken livers for starters which can be difficult to get right. But they were really good. The only two issues were wait time for the food was too high for me, even given the quality of the food. That is the wait time for the starters. The wait time between starter and main was fine. Also the beer was expensive. I had been drinking nice Fullers at The Victoria down the road so didn't bother.

Yelp
We come to London about once a year to relax and see some shows. Every trip we eat at Bombay Palace at least once. The atmosphere is very good, the food is great, and the service is very attentive. We usually arrive around 6PM to avoid the rush and have no trouble finding a table. There are many Indian restaurants in London, but once we found Bombay we just keep returning.

Yelp
Came here on Sunday for lunch, and was not disappointed. I had visited once before when an event was held here, and the food was mixed on that occasion so I didn't know what to expect. The restaurant is light and airy with a bank of floor to ceiling windows on one side. The waiting area is very dark in comparison. We had booked for six and were seated at a large table right next to the window in the middle of the large room. It made for a very pleasant start. We ordered some masala tea which took its time coming but was good and hot. The first waiter we had was not very attentive and seemed distracted. For example, he told us that 2 plates of samosas would be fine but in fact each plate consisted of two samosas so we were embarrassingly short. The other starters were very small indeed and we ended up having to order a second round of everything. Not helpful. Fortunately another, more clued up server took over, and matters improved considerably. As to main courses, we had bindi, paneer cholia, raita ( a ridiculously tiny portion), tandoori naan, prawn curry and aloo gobi. Everything was good but nothing really stood out for me. I enjoyed the meal which was authentically Punjabi and I will come back. I do think the service initially let the experience down, hence 3 stars.

Yelp
I dined in the Bombay Palace last night which has recently been re-furbished. We were 'not greeted' by the surly manager, who seemed far too busy for us with the few other customers in the largely empty restaurant. There was no 'Good Evening' nor any offer of an aperitif in the bar - we were just left standing there until he deigned to return and usher us along to the worst table in the vacuous dining room, from which we moved, and which resembles the lobby of any new international hotel with predictably ghastly muzak. We were not offered a drink or even a menu for at least ten minutes. Eventually, along with stale papadams, we did get to see a menu which featured pomfret in a banana leaf. I love fresh pomfret but realise it is not available in this country - however, I believe it is possible to obtain it, imported in a chilled rather than frozen container. I ventured to ask our charmless host about it but, before I had the chance, the mere mention of the word 'pomfret' elicited the barked response "We don't have it"! So we ordered from the rest of the uninspiring menu and the only positive thing I can say is that the vegetables were not quite as over-cooked as usually they are in most Indian restaurants. Why is the standard of Indian restaurants in London so low? To illustrate my point, even quite ordinary, unpretentious Chinese restaurants serve fresh fish - you will be hard-pressed to name one Indian restaurant that does likewise.
