Bon Me Review - Back Bay - Boston - The Infatuation

"This Vietnamese fast-casual spot started as a truck and is now all over Boston (in both truck and non-truck form). That’s not surprising, because their signature banh mi are reliably good with soft, light bread, and the selection of noodle dishes gets the job done when you’re not in the mood for a sandwich." - Dan Secatore

Ordered the Food Truck Fav bowl. Fast service, delicious and generous quantities. Excellent value! And comes in a very sturdy box

Google
Great for lunch and price also affordable! One of the best was parking! When you order food then you can ask stamp for parking garage so that you only pay $3for two hours, which is great in Boston area! Come and try if you like Korean fusion food!

Inside Boston public market by the door. Pretty good! Not that spicy but big portion

Google
Cutting chicken in cubes instead of thin slices. Never have one with cabbage before; not a fan! No any seasoning on the tables. Don’t expect a good Pho experience, otherwise you will be disappointed.

Google
I usually don’t write reviews . Bon me was my go to place for lunch , but my recent was quite incredibly disappointing. The dish I had was Singapore’s noodles salad .It had barely any vegetables in it—just a few sad pieces of cabbage and some slivers of red Pepper. The lack of vegetables made the dish feel unbalanced and bland even the noodles were extremely dry. They tasted like they had been sitting out for hours before being served. This used to be my go-to place, but the noticeable decline in quality is hard to ignore. I talked to the manager about the vegetables she told me they have decided to decrease the portion of vegetables it’s like I am paying $14 just to eat dry noodles .

Google
Really good. The pulled pork sandwiches phenomenal and I really like the sauce that put into it. I would definitely be back here again. The pho was pretty good too. The kids all ate it and my wife had a bowl of it as well. It's a bit on the pricey side but that's to be expected downtown

Google
Unfortunately, the place we originally wanted to go to lunch was not open, so I popped in the Boston Public market, knowing that Bon Me served Vietnamese food. I’ve had tons of Vietnamese food in my life, and unfortunately, this is adequate, but more like a subpar version of the real thing. And a bit overpriced almost $14 for a noodle bowl with some tofu.

Google
Inside the Boston Public Market is this wonderful Vietnamese spot! To eat fresh food surrounded by fresh produce was such a trip! We enjoyed the Vietnamese Summer Bowl and brown rice bowl with Vietnamese Vinaigrette sauce. Everything around is beautiful to look at and much of it delicious to taste. Come see and try

Yelp
I ordered Bon Me Boston's version of pad Thai... it definitely was not like any pad Thai I've ever had. The low quality, cheap chicken was grey thigh meat... With a little fat still on it. The advertised array of sautéed vegetables was actually ONLY cabbage... With a few chives, and cherry tomatoes, sliced in half. The promised peanut sauce tasted as if it was forgotten. Since the chicken looked very un appealing to me, I offered it to my dog... Who refused it. I was forced to throw it out. THE DEAL: this was a flavorless bowl of rice noodles with cheap chicken. It was inexpensive, at $14, by Boston standards.... And, you get what you pay for.

Yelp
Like other locations, the food is fresh and portion size for price is filling and good value. I wish they would either discontinue menu items if they run out or tell customers before ordering and paying though, as the gochujang chicken I had been looking forward to got switched to plain chicken at the last minute. Since this location is inside Boston Public Market, there are plenty of tables and chairs inside the market to sit and enjoy your meal.

Yelp
I was pleased with my lunch from here. The ramen soup had a flavorful broth. The vegetables were fresh, and I was pleased that they could substitute tofu as the protein. Seating was tricky inside the day I was there, so I'd advise to not overlook the outdoor seating option- especially on a beautiful day!

Yelp
I went to a lunch with catering from here and the food was fantastic. The vegan option was sesame soba noodles with tofu, which was super flavorful and delicious.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this restaurant today and decided to have my lunch here based off of the aroma from the kitchen. I ordered Ali's Pho which contained a hearty broth, chicken, cilantro, red onions, cabbage, lime and noodles. Everything was made to order so there's a bit of a wait but it is so worth it. I knew it was going to be good just by the looks but after my 1st bite it exceeded my expectations. It's so rich and jam packed with flavor. I also purchased the mad mango green tea boba which was very good but had a tad bit too much ginger for my liking. I will definitely return!

Yelp
Will not come back I got treated Specifically bullied and made fun of . The woman that bullied me she couldn't even speak English and she's a young immature employee and her other employees are wrong for not telling the honest truth to the manager that confront me and told me to leave and didn't even ask me what happened and for an employees to lie and not be honest those are the type of people that you hire and Manger after I was looking to find who can I speak to about what kind of people you have working for the company.

Yelp
Since discovering it not that long ago, we've been to Boston Public Market 3 times already! Today we went there right around lunch time and decided on the spot to have Banh Mi sandwiches from Bon Me! The hubs got their Namesake which is a pulled pork sandwich with the usual banh mi fixings. I got the Korean chicken sandwich which comes with plenty of spicy (mild) chicken and the usual shredded carrots, cucumber, daikon and cilantro and mayo sauce. But the best part was the bread which was warm and fresh and so delicious!! Both sandwiches were great and hit the spot, we finished them pretty quickly. We only remembered midway to take a pic lol - hence the half-eaten chicken sandwich photo attached ;) Service was quick, food was fresh, and they validated our parking - $3 parking - can't beat that! Will be back to try some of the other items on the menu :)

Yelp
Hmm, going here is kind of like going to Subway instead of a real sun shop. Sure it fills you up and it might even taste pretty good but deep down inside you know it's not traditional phở or bánh mì .. say what? You don't mind that? Then this place is for you! It actually wasn't bad - but during my search for restaurants I pictured something completely different (though I was suspicious of the omission of diacritics from the name lol) - that's essentially what it is isn't it? The butchering of the word bánh mì .. to make it easier for people to say - and likewise the same is done with the inspired foods. I wouldn't mind eating here again though, it's not supposed to be a foodie's dream nor does it aim to be authentic. For what it strives to achieve it does a good job - their faux phở is filling, I got mine with the spicy chicken because they were out of the roasted chicken. Got standard issue Bamboo Chopsticks, and a really thin plastic spoon (again that's the kind of place this is.. so that's fine)

Yelp
Ordered a sandwich with no pickled daikon and carrots and cilantro and extra pate. The employees messed my order the first time, after i told them about the mistake they remade my sandwich. I was in a hurry so i left with my new sandwich and they had messed up again. I usually have a good experience here, so i was very disappointed this time around.

Angela R.

Yelp
Ok food but the service STINKS here. The digital ordering system has just completely replaced any bit of customer service. The will ignore you until you speak up. It pretty much ruins the entire experience of going to this location.

Yelp
Food 5/5 stars, Drinks 0/5 stars I love Bon Me so much. The food is consistently fire. Everyone who I bring here loves what they get, from the bibimbap to the noodle bowls. Not to mention that it's very affordable, especially given the tourist trap area it's in. I always get the noodle bowls with a meat and usually the sesame sauce and it has never failed me. Taste-wise, it's the same as the food truck. And in general that means delicious. HOWEVER, the bubble tea is trash. I accidentally got it twice (fool me once...) and both times the bubbles were hard and stale. Would not recommend anyone get their bubble tea fix here if you have time to go literally anywhere else. In general, the drinks here are not good, which is a shame. I'm pretty sure I've tried almost all at one point or another since I've been here like 20+ times, and would not necessarily recommend any. Save yourself $4-5 of disappointment. Other notes: being at BPM means that there's plenty of seating and other options in case someone wants different food. The bathroom needs a code but someone is always leaving so you can just go in and no one cares. One of my coworkers once said that Bon Me was terrible and that [niche other place] is better because it's more authentic but imo I don't care. Bon Me is good and I really don't care or know about authenticity when it comes to Vietnamese food. Pretty sure they aren't claiming 100% authenticity anyways.

Yelp
Food is affordable and fast delivered. The environment is not elegant, but totally fine for a quick grab of breakfast or lunch

Yelp
Great ramen noodles, good flavor with a good amount of vegetarian options and nice service. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
It was really yummy but you need to try drinking the mango bubble tea , it's really yummy

Yelp
If you're in Boston Public Market looking for something delicious you have a lot of options. Don't fill up on the apple cider donuts in front. Head to the back and find Bon Me. I've only had The Korean and the Namesake. Both are delicious but I'm going to highly recommend everyone go with the Namesake. The meat is tender and the vegetables that go with it really bring out the taste. Sure the lemonade or the limeade could be a little cheaper but the food itself is well worth the $10.
google avatar

Selina P.

Yelp
Came here for the Namesake - the pickled vegetables and sriracha mayo were fairly good, the char siu meat was a bit dry but it was ok. The bun was warm and toasted, and I liked the cucumber chunks under the pickled vegetables as well. It's hard to justify a $9 banh mi when you can get them in Chinatown for less than $3 but it's 'trendy' and cute and conveniently located in the BPM so I guess that's what you pay for!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try their food ever since I've seen their food truck parked at South Station! So I had to renew my license today and there was a Bon Me in the area. SCORE! I got a quick lunch and was truly satisfied. The food was fresh and had flavor. For something that is fast and casual like this, it delivered in quality and taste. Something not all fast and causal joints can do.

Yelp
Perfect for a quick dinner or lunch. They do tend to run out of a lot of things in the evening though, and stop serving food before the actual Boston Public Market closing time, so watch out for that. I love Bon Me because it's filling without being greasy. You have the option of rice, noodles, salad or a sandwich (bahn mi). They're very gluten and vegan friendly, which I appreciate. I typically get a salad with chicken and hot sauce - definitely try the hot sauce if you like spicy things!

Yelp
Yesterday was my first time trying Bon Me and it was a pleasant experience. I ordered a Thai iced tea ($3.00) and a white rice bowl with roasted soy and paprika tofu ($8.50). The bowl came with pickled daikon, pickled carrots, and a medley of greens. I was surprised by the Thai iced tea taste because I expected it to be cloyingly sweet, creamy, and dark orange (like how I've had it in other places). Bon Me's tea tasted light (and not creamy) and a bit sweet. Its color was a lighter shade of orange and tasted a bit cinnamon-y to me. I enjoyed it nonetheless and it was a good way to cool myself down in the humid weather. My rice bowl was delicious and large in portion!!! The soy and paprika tofu cubes were so flavorful and the fried scallions(?) were a nice touch. :- ) Lastly, the pickled daikon and pickled carrots were great refreshers from the savory tofu cubes. I'm very pleased with my experience here. Though the menu is succinct, there are plenty of options to choose from, ranging from soba noodles to sandwiches!

Yelp
It's a pretty small pop up in Boston Public Market, and they have all the standard stuff on the menu. Veggie-wise I got the J.P., which is pretty fantastic as bahn mi goes. Filled with soft, well marinated spicy tofu and crunchy onions and cucumbers, topped with spicy mayo, totally hits the spot. The bread-to-filling ratio is spot on. I also got a free milk bubble tea on check in, quite nice. Just as a side - all the stuff is prepped and ready to put together here, so they don't do substitutions.

Yelp
One of my go-to options for weekday lunch! I almost never deviate from the Rice Noodle Salad with chicken of the day option and Miso Lime dressing. Light, fresh and tasty although quality seems a bit inconsistent at times. Depending on who's working that day, the meal sometimes get really underdressed, and there were few instances when the soba was completely overcooked as well. As for their drinks, I love their Basil Limeade on a hot summer day - makes the perfect addition to a summer meal! Service can be improved though- there are many times the stall is left empty for quite some time and I had to wait for about 10-15 minutes until someone shows up (this happened on my several visits.)

Yelp
I love me some good Asian food for lunch. The financial district lacks good Asian food options so this was a nice find. i had the brown rice bowl with the sichuan peppercorn chicken. The chicken wasn't too spicy and was nice and moist. The portion size isn't huge but that is ok. You can also choose brown rice or white rice. I really liked the pickled vegetable. They also have sriracha and you can put them in little to go containers.

Yelp
I had originally come to the Boston Public Market to try Noodle Bar, but they weren't ready yet (and I was starving!) so sought out Bon Me. Really glad I did because the food was excellent! I ordered the brown rice bowl with half Chinese BBQ pork and half miso pork. I loved that I could do half and half protein option. Came with mixed greens, pickled daikon/carrot, and a handful of cilantro. I also added a tea egg, and wish I had added the squash as well (which would've been too much food but I really want to try that squash - next time!). There was also a sprinkling of deep fried garlic/shallots on top which added an awesome depth of flavor and crunch! Yay texture! I was surprised at how much food came out, and really liked the healthy portions of protein! Pork was also INSANELY tender and flavorful! There also squeeze bottles of sriracha for those needing additional spice. That was the epitome of my idea of a perfect bowl of food. I'm such a fan, and so glad I stumbled upon it!

Yelp
I've been reading good things about Bon Me and I've been wanting to give them a try for a while, so I was super excited when I saw their little stand at The Boston Public Market. However my excitement became utter disappointment. The employees working that night must really hate their jobs because instead of a smile and a greeting I got "You order over here" as she's pointing to the register while sitting in the back. Normally this type of attitude would deter me from spending my money there but like I said I wanted to try their food. I ordered the pork sandwich. She gave me the total and I gave her my card, she swiped my card, gave it back to me and that was it. She did not say anything else and she didn't give me a receipt. I waited about three minutes and then the guy who made the sandwich gave me my food and that was it. He did not say a single word. The sandwich itself was alright. Nothing special, nothing to make me say wow.

Yelp
Location: I believe this is one of many locations. It's in the Boston public market is is close to the government center and downtown crossing t stops. Fairly short walk away from north end's little Italy too. Food: I got a white rice bowl with peppercorn chicken. It came with a spring mix and a daikon+carrot pickle slaw. Flavorwise- it wasn't bad. Rice was cooked all the way through. Veggies were fresh. Chicken was where I had an issue. It wasn't too seasoned in my opinion and I couldn't taste any spice in it. What threw me off was the texture. It was more like chicken cooked in a slow cooker and was really tender, however this isn't something you find in Vietnamese food. I also expected it to be a tad bit spicy and when it wasn't I was disappointed. The food is labeled vietnamese, but honestly didn't taste like Vietnamese food. Portion was decent though. Ample amount of chicken. Price: around $8.50-90, which is a fair price considering Boston Verdict: I think most non Vietnamese people will like it, but when I have chicken and rice I prefer to have it grilled or braised but still having bite/texture.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Bon Me. I am Vietnamese and usually if I want Viet food, I go to Chinatown or Dorchester. Yesterday, I went to the BPM for lunch and was wandering around...Nothing really interested me then I remembered there was Bon Me. I have only seen the trucks which I have never tried but today I wanted to try something "new." I didn't want to get the actually Banh Mi (bread) so I went with the soba noodles with spiced rubbed chicken (12 spices) instead. I got the Vietnamese Vinagrette (fish sauce based). It was SO EFFING DELICIOUS! The portion was huge too! It's almost like a deconstructed banh mi but with soba noodles and a difference sauce. There was shredded carrot, mesclun (mixed veggies), cilantro, and red onion. I liked this because it tasted very fresh and healthy. Will be back soon.

Yelp
Review is for their "Thai tea", which is English breakfast tea with a drop of creamer.... knew something was wrong the moment I saw the color
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
This place has a "Thai iced tea" that tastes exactly like an English breakfast tea with milk added. Not sure what other stuff tastes like but do not get it!!!
google avatar

Leslie S.

Yelp
You have some of the RUDEST service in the industry. Blank stares. No reply to "thank you". Too many options in the area to bother! And it's not just this location!
google avatar

Rachel Z.

Yelp
Great vegan options! Love the salad, noodles and sandwich! Well-seasoned and tasty without the food getting too heavy. Tons of greens with the noodles or the salad. Especially liked the miso and spicy peanut dressings. Had several meals here while in town for a week. Yummy!
google avatar

Alessandra S.

Yelp
First off, I love Bon me! But the service at this location wasn't great. I went on a Thursday evening so it was pretty quiet at the market. When I got there the staff could care less that they had people waiting. One girl had her earbuds in and was singing loudly. She definitely saw me waiting to place my order but she just looked at me and walked away. Never took her earbuds out. It was really rude and unprofessional. I understand if you don't work the register but just a simple, someone will be right with you would have sufficed. It took so long for someone to aknowlege my existence that I almost left. If I hadn't been looking forward to the food so much I would have. When another girl finally did come over she was okay but a bit unfriendly. She did replace my drink without issue when the Thai ice tea I ordered tasted off- which I greatly appreciated. Overall I love the food (not counting that drink) but I hope the staff gets some customer service training.

Yelp
Good, fast, and affordable Banh Mi. They offer several takes on the sandwich here and the menu allows for a lot of sandwich/bowl customization. I went with the more traditional take, the "Namesake", which is a classic banh mi, but served with Char Siu. This is a solid sandwich, its got the tangy pickles and creaminess from the mayo/pate. The baguette has a nice crunch. I wish it was a little spicier, but that's my biggest complaint. For $7 right downtown, the price is pretty good too. If its hot, you should definitely wash it down with a Vietnamese iced coffee.
google avatar

Eric O.

Yelp
When at last I pass through the pearly gates and dine with Jesus and all the Saints, we'll all be eating "The Namesake." This sandwich transcends earthly delights. The treasures that stuff this perfect baguette to bursting point brought me unfathomable joy. The pork was smoky, the pâté luxurious. The pickled bits were crisp and tangy and made me wanna shout and dance around with joy, but when I made to do so I was frozen; all that came out was a single perfect tear of happiness. I wish I could give this sandwich seven stars. One for every dollar that this thing cost whaaaaaaat! $7 for a moment in heaven, can't wait to drop in again, thanks!

Matty R.

Yelp
This place is awesome! I recommend getting bun bowl with kimchi (definitely enough food for two people). Good service, food, and price!
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
I love Bon Me!! I was actually very surprised to like it as much as I did. When I first saw the menu everything seemed so simple so I wasn't expecting to be blown away. I got the brown rice bowl with Chinese BBQ pork and it was so delicious! The pork is definitely on the saltier side but the pickled carrots and daikon balance out the dish perfectly and the rice soaks up the flavor well. I went again to one of their food trucks located near the Pru and again, consistent quality. I do wish the provided mesclun in the bowl though. Next time I think I'll get a side of Asian greens or see if they could reduce the amount of rice and put in some extra mesclun.
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
Service was speedy for the norm in this area (I'm from out of town), and prices were also good for the norm in this area. I enjoyed the flavors of my chicken salad. It was a quick and convenient pit stop!
google avatar

Bailey G.

Yelp
I eat here very often, as it's en route to my job. The food is consistant and tasty. It offers one of the few vegan options in the area, which is appreciated. However, today I witnessed an employee being very rude to another customer. She rose her voice at them because they simply didn't know lunch wasn't being served yet. The employee then pointed at the door, as if she was refusing service. After all this, I arrive home to eat and my order wasn't even correct. I don't want to bash an entire establishment because of one or two employees but my overall experience today was awful. Personally, if I see her working there again, I'll just turn around and eat somewhere else.
google avatar

Wai W.

Yelp
Was here to grab some lunch at the Public Market place and decided on trying Bon Me as I have seen the name all the time. There was a line, seems popular, but didn't have to wait long unless people in line had questions for such as simple menu. Menu is 123, pick a dish and select your protein. I decided to try their sandwich, which is same as a Banh mi sandwich, but not with the same traditional items and flavor. Price is decent, but not like the traditional price. I select the spiced rubbed chicken as a protein. Overall is not bad. maybe I try their bowl next time.

Yelp
Located right inside the Boston Public Market, this is a great place to scope out if not just for walking through the market as well. I should note that this was my first experience with Bon Me, and I had very high expectations. It was pretty good but I couldn't help but be a little disappointed... I appreciate the simple menu. I ordered noodle salad with pork, a side of deviled eggs, and a thai iced tea. The food was really delicious and the perfect balance of noodles, salad, and pork which was cooked perfected. The eggs were fine but I wouldn't order again. The thai iced tea was disappointing and just felt oversweeted but with little flavor... The food came out quick, and since there was limited seated we ate in the park across the street.
google avatar

Karen K.

Yelp
I work by the Back Bay Bon Me and have it at least once a week. A few weeks ago I had a day off but all I wanted for lunch was Bon Me. Luckily they have lots of locations so I was able to get my Bon Me craving filled easily. The Public Market location is just as yummy and the staff are just as friendly as my regular location. Thank you!
google avatar

Jacob H.

Yelp
Tasty sandwich, but it took forever to make even though there were 3 employees on shift and no one was in ANY hurry to make my food. I stood there for easily 5 min (no one in front of me) before anyone bothered to tell me it would be a few min because they had to toast the bread...? The wrapper bag they handed me was covered in grease, which made eating it while walking in a suit next to impossible. And the spicy chili sauce I ordered came in a condiment container on the side, not on the sandwich. Ugh, all I wanted was something quick and tasty to eat while walking to the train. Now I'm late and covered in grease. That said, it WAS a good sandwich.
google avatar

Eddie Z.

Yelp
Portion could be very inconsistent and today I ordered spicy chicken with brown rice. I have to say I am still hungry after lunch. Emailed management before about this issue and am very much disappointed today...

Sam C.

Yelp
This location never seems to be serving food. I love the Bon Me food truck but unfortunately this location doesn't come close to it at all. The first time I went was during their open hours. They said they were not serving any food at all, only drinks, so I had to order food through the website for them to make it for me. Once I got the food the meat was overcooked and dry. Very disappointing. The second time I went there was a little before the afternoon. They were not serving any food yet despite it being over an hour after they were suppose to be open. The people working there were also very rude and not helpful at all. They seemed very eager to push me away rather than help me. Terrible service and workers. I ended up just walking to the Bon Me food truck by Aquarium Station.
google avatar

Christine Y.

Yelp
A new location for Bon Me inside Boston Public Market. They have a variety of Asian inspired sandwiches, rice bowls, and salads. Their items can be made gluten-free, vegas, lactose-free, etc. I just had the Thai iced tea, which was different in a good way from the traditional type you'll find at Vietnamese restaurants. It was more spicy, moderately sweet, and seemed to have a lighter cream than condensed milk. They also have other drinks, such as Thai basil limeade, spicy ginger lemonade, and Vietnamese iced coffee.
google avatar

Virginia R.

Yelp
I don't think it makes sense to compare a fast, casual place to the Vietnamese/Asian food your mom makes at home. So I believe Bon Me does a good job at providing food that is satisfactory! I've tried pretty much everything they sell here and everything has great flavor, always. The only thing I would say about this location is that the employees can perhaps be more approachable and interactive. They're not rude and I don't need them to tell me a whole story, but they need to greet people better and interact better. I'm not disappointed by anything here though.
google avatar

Kathyn Z.

Yelp
Had food truck fav with brown rice, veggies and Thai peanut sauce with shredded pork. Slightly spicy. Really good. Large serving for reasonable price.

Racquel S.

Yelp
The black milk tea tasted extremely watered down! So bland. I was very disappointed. I'm sure the rice noodle salad is good. I saw a lot of people with that in hand.

Yelp
I love Bon Me and this location in the BPM used to be great however it has seriously gone downhill. The service has been terrible lately. The girl taking my order was on her cell phone (with earbuds in) and not even close to friendly. She then finished her call before starting to make my food (it was an off time I was the only one there). It was very obvious it was a personal call, not taking an order of business related. The rice noodles were dry and I am fairly certain she forgot the dressing. I always get the same thing (probably about once as week or so) and this isn't the first time the food has been below average.

Belle F.

Yelp
Not a fan of the new system of ordering via iPad. Appears there is no way to modify ingredients. It was only when I caught the attention of a worker (who also didn't know how to use the iPad to modify ingredients) that I was able to order verbally. Thankfully the food is still as good as it ever was.
