The Best New Restaurants in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"The golden age of luxury steakhouse dining is alive and well at Bon Ton Prime Rib, a revival of a historic New Orleans restaurant on Magazine Street. Bon Ton is not looking to reinvent the classics, necessarily, but rather nail them — dishes like New Orleans barbecue shrimp, charbroiled oysters topped with lump crab, a wedge salad, and classic prime rib cooked rare and served with jus. The atmosphere is special occasion-worthy, down to the massive neon sign that hangs outside (reminiscent of the historic Tujague’s sign) and the bow-tied waiters." - Clair Lorell

The Best Steakhouses in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"From the folks behind Chophouse, Bon Ton Prime Rib is a revival of a historic New Orleans restaurant, and owners are leaning into that history. It feels like a throwback to a golden age of fine dining, with hyper-attentive service, bow-tied servers, and classic steakhouse dishes like a wedge salad, barbecue shrimp., and prime rib cooked rare and served with jus. Beyond the prime rib, there’s also a strip, filet, and tomahawk ribeye." - Eater Staff

Bon Ton Prime Rib in New Orleans has long been a destination for aficionados of its namesake dish, but to define it by a single cut of meat would be to miss the broader, more exquisite culinary symphony taking place within its walls. So impressed were we by the our first dining experience, that a return visit was mandated just two days later—a true vote of confidence in a restaurant that proved its excellence to be no fluke. Our experience began with a remarkable Beef Tallow Old Fashioned. This libation was not just a drink but a statement—a bold, savory concoction that was both inventive and flawlessly executed. The beef tallow infusion delivered a profound, bursting richness that played off the classic cocktail's notes of bitters and citrus, creating a complex and memorable aperitif. It was, quite simply, poured to perfection. This remarkable start was made all the more enjoyable by our server, Bradly, whose attentive and knowledgeable presence set the tone for the entire meal. For the main event, I veered from the traditional prime rib and was handsomely rewarded with the 12oz Bon Ton Cajun Steak. This choice was a revelation. Cooked to an impeccable medium-rare, the steak was a tender, juicy canvas for a masterful blend of Cajun spices. The flavors were outstanding—a powerful yet balanced melody of heat and earthiness that filled the palate with every bite. The precision of the cooking, a testament to the kitchen's skill, ensured the steak was at its absolute peak. The supporting cast of sides was equally a hit, proving that no detail is too small at Bon Ton. The puffed corn casserole was a treat in itself; a cloud-like texture gave way to a sweet, delicate flavor that was both comforting and sophisticated. The Brussels sprouts, a dish that can often be overlooked, were another splendid highlight, prepared with a tender-crispness and a depth of sweet flavor that made them utterly irresistible. Throughout this culinary tour de force, Bradly remained a constant, attentive guide, anticipating our needs and ensuring the seamless flow of the evening. Our prompt return just two nights later confirmed that this was not a single, fortunate performance, but a consistent commitment to excellence. The combination of culinary skill and the exemplary hospitality provided by Bradly makes this a destination worthy of the highest praise. It is a place where you don't just eat; you experience — and you will undoubtedly find yourself planning your return before the meal is even

We had a great experience dining at the bar. Originally, we booked for the dining room but got lucky and snagged two seats at the bar while waiting for our table. After enjoying our first drink and deciding to sit at the bar for dinner, everything was on point. The two female bartenders took great care of us, timed our food perfectly and kept our drinks full. Just as good as the service was the food. Filet and Strip cooked to perfection. The Bon Ton oysters are a must try dish. We will be back and definitely dining at the bar!

10 out of 10 service by our waiter Bradley! The presentation and quality of the food was outstanding. You get old school steakhouse vibe with a New Orleans local dishes. The surf and turf ( BBQ shrimp, grilled oysters with crab meat, and prime rib steak)

The low rating for Atmosphere is solely due to the temperature being outrageously hot. We asked the server if the A/C had gone out and he said it is always like this. Shame on the building owners, this restaurant deserves better from you. Fix the A/C - Food and service was fantastic.

I visted this year for my bday and they did not dissapoint. The staff were more than accomodating, even though i arrived 3 mins before closing. Best lemon drop ever. The loaded potatoe was so huge( this is what i mean when i say i want a loaded potatoe), the Cajun Steak was cooked perfectly and the crawfish mac was to die for. The bbq shrimp were huge and the candied bacon was delicious. I expected a bill of at least $300, bt paid less than $200. P.s. If u ever get a chance, visit the sister restaurant "Chop House" across the street. The food is also very good.

We came to Bon Ton Prime Rib with one thing on our minds—prime rib. So when we learned they had run out, we were disappointed… but only for a moment. Because what came next was a full-on Cajun redemption story. We kicked things off with their smoky Cajun bacon, a crisp wedge salad, and a rich, velvety shellfish bisque that set the tone for the night. But the star of the show? A jaw-dropping 40oz tomahawk ribeye—a beautifully seared, well-marbled beast of a steak that could satisfy any carnivore’s craving. The sides were just as strong: charred Brussels sprouts with a perfect bite, indulgent crawfish mac and cheese, and a humble helping of steamed broccoli to make us feel a little better about ourselves. We ended with their colossal Saturday night sundae—a decadent, share-worthy dessert that was as fun as it was filling. The only letdown? In a city that takes its cocktails seriously, it was a shame they didn’t have egg whites for a proper whiskey sour. Still, it wasn’t enough to overshadow an otherwise unforgettable meal. Bon Ton may not have had the prime rib that night—but they absolutely lived up to the name. Mike “Big Chief” Hiatt The Whiskey Trip Podcast

My friends and I had the pleasure of going to Bon Ton Prime Rib for a 'casual' dinner since one of our wives was out of town. Our server, Susan, was very knowledgeable. I did not enjoy being sat right by the front door but once we got to eating, I didn't notice. I thought the music was loud when I first arrived, but once the restaurant filled up, it wasn't noticeable. We had a booth and it was very comfortable despite my large stature. On to the food: my friends and I got the Cajun Bacon which came as a clothe-wire presentation. Enjoyed. 2 of us had wedge salads which were not too big (or too small). For the main course, the 3 of us 40-something men split the large Bone-In Prime rib. We also ordered the brussel sprouts (which were sweet), the corn casserole that was something like a spoon-bread although I didn't eat it for diet reasons), and we ordered the grilled broccoli. These items were enough to allow us to leave more than satisfied. I would definitely go back and recommend it for prime rib! Side note: I ordered an espresso when I arrived and it was so rich. Good beans!
