Sweden has the best candy in the world, hands down. I lived there for a summer and became seriously addicted to real Swedish fish (not that garbage they sell in the States), sour gummies, Marabou chocolate, and Japp chocolate bars. Needless to say, when I found BonBon, I nearly cried tears of joy and walked out with about $40 in candy.
The first store I found was in Manhattan. Then when I discovered this Brooklyn location on a random outing one day, I knew its proximity to my apartment was going to be sweet, delicious trouble.
As one might guess, I've been to this shop many times. The staff are always super nice and helpful, and the shop is adorable. It's the closest I've felt to being in that awesome chocolate shop in the original Willy Wonka movie. Candy. Everywhere.
Since I went to the Manhattan location first and encountered a Swedish staff member, I assumed that would be my experience at all BonBons. However, as easy as it was to talk to a Swedish staff member about Swedish culture and candy, I've discovered the BK location usually doesn't have a Swede on site (I've only encountered one lady who effortlessly knew what I was talking about). This makes asking for specific items a little more involved if the crew isn't familiar with the language or the products.
That being said, it's a niche issue and not an actual problem. The regular staff, as I said, are always so helpful and try to make recommendations based on what your tastes are (at least for the pick-and-mix candies/lösgodis).
If you love sour candy, prepare yourself for the best you've ever had. Swedes are not afraid of sour, and they do it so well. Try the foamy skulls, the peach lips, EVERYTHING. You won't be disappointed.
