The Best Restaurants in Covent Garden: Where to Eat in Covent Garden | Eater London

"Seven Dials Market, Covent Garden’s cavernous food hall, feels like a no-expense-spared relic from before the pandemic. But there’s still plenty of good food to be found here, and the best is Bongbong’s Manila Kanteen, run by the former Kerb stars. Stop by at lunch and dinner for fragrant lechon over rice and salad, adobo-glazed chicken wings and crispy pata pancakes with meltingly tender pork hock to share." - Emma Hughes

Bong Bong’s Manila Kanteen - Review - Covent Garden - London - The Infatuation

"Will visiting this spot in Seven Dials help you understand how staff at the Department of Health spent nearly £50,000 on this Filipino-inspired takeaway? It might just. After closing their Hackney location, Bong Bong’s have opened a new restaurant on the top floor of Kerb at Seven Dials, and they’re serving some pretty tasty stuff. From a lunchtime satay curry that’s singlehandedly convinced us of the virtues of pineapple in savoury food, to adobo glazed cauliflower we could eat like M&Ms, and the biggest bowl of prawn crackers we’ve ever come across, this is a very solid lunch option in the area." - Rianne Shlebak

Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s £50,000 Coronavirus Takeaway, Explained | Eater London

"A small, Filipino-inspired restaurant on Hackney Road that opened almost exactly a year earlier after its owners, Lee Johnson and Sinead Campbell, won investment on BBC Two’s Million Pound Menu. During the first COVID-19 wave the venue pivoted from restaurant service to private catering (April–June) to stay afloat, helping pay bills and support suppliers, but despite significant orders it later announced permanent closure because of the ongoing impact of lockdowns. Government spending on hot food for staff became a notable story when the Department of Health and Social Care recorded £47,528 spent on takeaways/catering in March and April (nine orders totalling £43,348 in April and one order of £4,179 in March); ministers defended the purchases as necessary to feed long-shifted civil servants, NHS staff, military personnel and contractors while other catering options were unavailable. The owners, who previously ran the street-food business BBQ Dreamz, plan to wait out the winter and relaunch their Honey Boo Boo food truck after a successful crowdfunding campaign, and some commentators noted that one investor’s marriage to a Conservative councillor may help explain the government’s patronage." - Adam Coghlan

Mei Mei Borough Market Is a Hit, While Jay Rayner Reviews Robin Gill | Eater London

"The street-food duo’s first brick-and-mortar on Hackney Road serves large, pleasing bowls and crowd-friendly plates — aubergine kare kare and pata, a feisty chilled noodle, and a whole roasted tilapia worth the effort to dismantle — followed by hot, crisp banana-and-cinnamon spring rolls with a generous scoop of exceptionally rich vanilla ice cream. The place trades polish for warmth: décor verges on "totally bonkers," the vibe is childlike and slightly chaotic but confident, and it feels like a warm-hearted, get-stuck-in kind of joint that reviewers happily plan to revisit with family and friends." - George Reynolds

This was the first time I had Filipino food and I was not disappointed at all. I felt welcomed and it was a joy to eat here. I found the staff very nice and friendly. The adobo chicken wings were amazing, the chicken skin was still crispy even with the sticky adobo sauce/glaze. My sister really liked it too. It nearly made me consider getting another portion! When the main arrived. Chef decided to surprised us with something and added extra food (the chorizo style sausage) on our plate just to introduce us to more of their food. I was really happy with this because it really shows that the team really cares about introducing Filipino food to people who never had it. Chicken satay curry was tasty. Pork belly I expected to be like slow-cooker tender but had a bite which I still really liked almost like fatty pork steak. The food had flavour. Immense flavour. As expected, rice was cooked nicely. I really liked the presentation of the dish. It's heavy on garnish but felt really fun and exciting to eat. We also got a free drink as well and tasted almost like Yakult milk. Was really refreshing and much needed. Overrall, this place is the best I've eaten in London so far (only been there for 2 days RIP). I will recommend this place to all of my friends. Only advice, I should've ordered more food.

What an awesome Filipino restaurant in London! The menu offers some punchy and innovative dishes designed for sharing. The whole restaurant has a relaxed and quirky vibe. They even have a private dining area for larger groups (which comes with free karaoke!). You MUST order their cauliflower!!

I’m new to Filipino food, but I loved the flavours. I got the crispy pork rice plate and my friend got the chicken satay, and we shared a side of longanisa. The pork was really tender and a good serve and comes with a tasty sauce; the chicken satay was delicious and the longanisa was delightful. I also appreciated the colour the salad added to the plate. However, my rice was way over cooked - basically a mushy, sticky pile. I’m pretty sure it’s not supposed to be like that. The gentleman who took our order didn’t check on us until we were almost finished, otherwise I would have said something. I also feel like the value wasn’t the greatest - it’s delicious, but it’s not very much food for £12. I think I would’ve liked a bit more rice (and for the rice to not be soggy).

First time trying this place. No queues, nice and empty. Service with a smile. Ordered the pork and jasmine rice. Including service charge £13.75. Not bad, there was a lot of pork. Tasty but if I'm totally honest, some bits were dry. Rice was nice, sauce had flavour, pity there wasn't enough of it. Next time I might try something else. Toilets are downstairs, there is a lift.

Elevated Filipino restaurant inside one of London’s central food market. The vibe of the place was great. Food and staff service was okay. Place can get too crowded sometimes so waiting time for orders can be long. Menu is a bit pricey. Try their mega or the mega mega box to maximise your Filipino food experience/cravings.

I like Philippino food, and this place has some incredible chorizo sausage. But lost 1 star because I think you get very little food for the price and I left feeling hungry. But their take on a Pina Colada was really tasty and I liked having a classic San Miguel Manilla beer. I'm not sure I would go back only bc I don't think this place has good value and I'm still hungry!

Food was absolutely delicious. I learnt about this place through Netflix’s ‘One-million pound meal’. I really liked the owners on there and their take on the Phillipino cuisine. I had never tried it before but left very impressed. I had the satay chicken with rice and the adobo glazed cauliflower. The cauliflower was by far the best cauliflower dish I’ve ever had. The next day, there was no negative effects from the meal. I recommend this place to anyone that loves trying new cuisines.

After a week in london. I was craving rice with some taste of filipino dish. Coming from calif usa. My expectation of food here were not that high and i was not disappointed. Definitely a hint of filipino but more catered to english palate. Food is 2 stars but i gave 3 bc of friendly servers. Some items on menu were not avail during my visit.
