Located on West 8th Street in Koreatown, Bonggu Tteokbokki is a delightful spot that offers a unique twist on traditional Korean street food. I ordered the Bonggu GaRae, which features four pieces of GaRae Tteok and three pieces of fish cake, all drenched in Bonggu’s Special Original Sauce. This dish was recommended by the server as the least spicy option, and I was grateful for the guidance. The tteok, or rice cakes, were delightfully soft and perfectly chewy, absorbing the sauce's spicy sweet flavor beautifully. The sauce itself was a standout rich, flavorful, and just the right amount of heat to keep things interesting without overwhelming my palate. I also opted to add wide glass noodles, which complemented the dish well, adding a nice texture and heartiness. From the tempura menu, I couldn't resist ordering the Tempura Shrimp, which came with two perfectly fried pieces. The shrimp were crispy on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside, making for a delicious contrast with the tteokbokki.
To wash everything down, I ordered the homemade strawberry milk. It was reminiscent of a thick strawberry milkshake, rich and creamy, which was a perfect counterbalance to the spice of the meal. It added a refreshing sweetness that rounded out the experience. One of the highlights of my visit was the service. The server was incredibly attentive and helpful, ensuring that I had everything we needed throughout the meal. She was knowledgeable about the menu, providing excellent recommendations that enhanced my dining experience. Definitely recommend
