Philip Speer’s Restaurant Bonhomie Is Now Closed - Eater Austin

"Chef Philip Speer’s restaurant, Bonhomie, is now closed, as reported by Austin 360, though he didn’t give an exact reason for the shutter for the 5350 Burnet Road address. The last day of service for the Brentwood restaurant was last night, Sunday, May 20. Bonhomie, which served a French-bistro/American diner menu and vibe, heralded as the return of Speer in Austin." - Nadia Chaudhury

Callie Speer’s Restaurant Holy Roller Was the “Perfect Accident” - Eater Austin

"Bonhomie is run by Philip Speer, the husband of Callie Speer. It is another notable restaurant in Austin, but not the main focus of this article." - Nadia Chaudhury

A few friends and I had a great dinner experience here. Service was amazing, the appetizers, drinks, and entrees were all spectacular. All the food was flavorful and unique. The gluten free burger came with hash brown type buns instead of wheat buns...and I would highly recommend the salmon reuben.

Was absolutely delighted by our experience here! Food was just wonderful and the staff was incredible as well. Best croque madame I've had in town. Instantly became one of our favorite spots in Austin. Definitely try the cocktails!

For My Brunch Review this place gets an easy 5 stars! I've been to brunch here 4x already...I love it THAT much! Hands down my favorite menu item is the Soft Scrambled Egg Truffle toast; it is perfection with actual shaved truffle on top of that scrumptious egg and perfectly toasted slice of bread. The Pommes Rosti are a close second; I went with the vegetarian (Roasted mushroom, caramelized onion and spinach) and it was a tasty "nest" of goodness. My friend enjoyed her Lox, Dill and Caper which looked amazing (alas I'm allergic to salmon). Dessert: 5 stars! The Fresh Fruit bowl (I consider it dessert worthy) was gorgeous seasonal perfectly ripe fruit, and the Banana Split Profiteroles are to die for! Dinner: The Roasted Squash plate was a bowl of fibrous squash coated in brown butter. Filling. And while delicious the first few bites this dish is cloyingly sweet. The Gnocchi a la Parisienne, also served with a brown butter sauce, was not great. The gnocchi's texture was as if it had just been reheated from the freezer, the flavor was bland and there was not enough sauce to help it. I left behind most of it and mentioned to the server it wasn't great; he brought me more sauce. General Notes: Their portion sizes are generous, and many items would be good for sharing. The same brunch items are offered on their dinner menu (and that's a good thing!). Although table seating is limited (best to reserve in advance) there is plenty of seating at their bar and counter. Free parking is available in the adjacent garage.

Probably my favorite brunch in Austin. Don't miss out the pomme rosti, one of their specialties, which has a base of amazing crispy potatoes topped with a variety of topping options (the boursin and bacon is out of this world). French toast and croque madame were also delicous. Great cocktail list as well! Excited to come back and try this place for dinner.

Love this uncluttered, generously sized dining room with up close and personal kitchen view and windows for days. The rosti are my new obsession and the side portion of white bean cassoulet felt so special.

I did a burger crawl around north Austin with some co-workers and Bonhomie was the winner of the best burger! Everything from the service to the presentation was polished. The burger was delicious and came with a side of arugula salad that was refreshing. I tried both a cheeseburger and a pomme rosti (off menu) burger. They were different burgers and both very good, but the Pomme gave it extra texture and flavor that made for an overall more satisfying burger. Overall both had great texture and flavor to them, and held together really well. Bonus, fries with the remoulade sauce was amazing.

Excellent! Had a Pommes Rossi, daily special, main plate, and the Banana Split Profiteroles. All were delicious! Paired with great service, warm ambiance and it was an all-around fantastic dining experience.

Based on the brunch I would love to come here for dinner. Service was top-notch and the food was creative and not too expensive. I had the brisket croissant a.k.a. their version of the French dip-totally took me off guard and I have to say I really enjoyed it, I had a few of the desserts and other brunch items as well; all of which were a refreshing new take on some more of the classic things you'd find. Only gripe would be that their front door should be their main entrance, apparently it's only for the bar.
