This was a hidden gem suggested by a friend. Inside is a liquor store and meat market. Outside they serve tacos and tortas and more! This tri tip torta was basically perfect!! It hit all the flavors I wanted and tasted fresh. They toast the bun and include all the veggies, including jalapenos(my favorite). The customer service was excellent as well. I want to come back and try more food from them. If you want a delicous meal withtout a long wait, stop by this market. Eat up!!

Google
I lived in Chula Vista my whole life and I just recently discovered this on my own and absolutely delicious. The food is fresh meat is delicious and the tortillas are bomb. And people that work there are friendly. A + in my book if you never tried I highly recommend

Bonita Farmer”s Market is my go to for almost all of my grocery list, their arrachera is the best. The owners are always so friendly and helpful.

Great customer service. Fresh and good meats. Chicharrón is my favorite. Tacos, menudo, birria and smoke meat on the weekend only. Amazing tortas all week. Reduce hours for holidays. Stop by to check renovations!

I have been wanting to go to this with my family. yet every time I want to we've been so busy and there has not like being a chance like today. This afternoon my wife and I decided to stop by with with my children and see what the smell was all about. As we came in it reminded me of my childhood, the days when I used to go to the market with my family and they had the taco store right next to the market. When we got there They were working on the tri-tip and apparently had a lot of them alreadset in the smoker. There was a wonderful smell and a huge smile on the guy that was checking it from the market. As I was talking with him I asked him what do they offer and they say tacos. They had tri-tip tacos, Chicken tacos, they have adobada tacos, and also, menudo and birria. All you have to do is go inside the store before you get your tacos. Pay for them and go outside and hand your receipt to the guy at the counter, he will prepare the meat you want. The counter has all the salsa, guacamole, onions, lemon and cilantro for you to add to the yummy tacos. The tacos are delicious and BIG in a big guy and I had enough with 3 tacos. The service was great, the person doing the tacos was awesome and very friendly! I'm coming back again!!! The price was very reasonable for the size of the tacos. They do have a lot of parking as well as handicap parking. This is going to be out Sunday sit for a while. They have the Travis's only Saturday and Sunday from 8am - 4pm

Google
Tri-tip torta is the best. Bread is super soft. The avocado compliments it nicely. They also have a chicken torta which my kids usually order. Ceviche and pickled carrot are also good.

Google
Dont get the hype. Visited the place due to the good reviews but: vegetables are not that fresh. Quite expensive. Not much variety of produce. Their salsas and cocktails are just ok. Not a bad minimart.

Nicholas Fierro

Google
A really great local market. They sell really good guacamole and salsa. Weekends are always nice because they have fresh tacos and smoked tri-tip. Their tri-tip sandwiches are sold all week. I've always liked their selection of beer, wine and liquor as well.

Yelp
I walked in early this morning and snap a few photos so clean in here always. The Butcher was ready to help me I was the only one here ..:) Greeted me in Spanish we chatted a bit Good morning how it's going, I walk up the the counter and locked on the chicharrones beautiful And pick out a small piece of Chicharron I could of bought more lot's more but being good I bought soy Chorizo for breakfast and making some burritos with potato & home made salsa This Bonita farmer market is dangerous with all the good foods they have prepared here in fridge Until next time Come out and see the bbq Tri Tip there famous for!!
google avatar

Elvira G.

Yelp
Just bought broccoli and carne asada for dinner. Clean small store and friendly employees. Broccoli a bit more expensive than grocery store organic but well worth it since nicely trimmed for zero waste. Griddled carne- great texture and flavor! Highly recommend for a healthy DIY meal. Understand they serve pizza and BBQ on weekends. Worth a second visit!

Yelp
IYKYK! If you know you know! This place is the best of the best! My daughter and I love to sit outside while we have our tri-tip torta! Looking at the smoker while you eat, there is just nothing like it! You will also see horses stopping by often with their owners to rest as you are near trails. We have been eating here for the past 10 years but I know locals have been coming here way longer! It's a local gem that is for sure! Also the whole chicken is top tier! All of the food from the deli to the smoker! 10/10
google avatar

Caroline S.

Yelp
Amazing deli, fairly priced, friendly service. It's my favorite place to ride my pony. Thanks for being horse friendly

Yelp
Have you ever had food that takes you somewhere else? The Tri-tip Torta let's just start there. One of the most unappreciated parts of meat but somehow comes out like a delicate snowflake of flavor that dances around your mouth. Combined with the pickled jalapeño and onions and the light and crispy bun you're done hun because it's that good. Service is exceptional along with the pricing for goods you don't see all the time at your chain stores. Highly recommended from myself a food snob!

Yelp
I ordered the tri-tip torta that came with avocado, mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato. I left off the jalapeños and the onions. It was ridiculously perfect. The meat was smoky and delicious quality meat. The torta could've been a little more toasted for my liking the bread, but that smoke and flavor you get from that sandwich is amazing. It's tender and moist and juicy and delicious. I didn't even get a chance to take a picture. I ate the thing like crazy. I wanted to try the Carne Asada so I got a taco with guacamole and it was amazing. Very tender flavorful meat. It does cost 499 so it's not inexpensive but the meat quality is amazing not fatty not dry. Well seasoned delicious two tortillas. very soft tortillas and flavorful. You can't go wrong. I believe you get a soda or a iced tea with the torta next time. I'll try the burrito it's a dollar or less and you don't get a drink with it but I bet it's amazing. May have to mix the tri-tip and asada together in a burrito if that's possible that would be heaven on earth Anyway I love this place because they do sell Happy Dad 24 ounce cans and 12 packs all flavors so I will return again plus next-door has that bomb fresh fruit strudel. Service was excellent. I almost walked out the door without napkins and a drink and Teresa stopped me and asked if I needed napkins, hand napkins, and then asked me if I got my drink and I forgot it so I'll grab the Diet Coke and I was happy. The service is excellent place is clean. it's a 5 Star in my book.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best carne asada tacos I've had in SD. Perfectly seasoned with big portions - they really fill up the tacos. Got 6 of them to-go and "con todo" which includes guacamole, salsa, onion, and cilantro. The meat is smoked before going on the grill and you can definitely taste the smoke in the flavor, which automatically makes these tacos better than 99% of other taco shops. This place has an authentic ambiance and feels like a secret. The tacos are $5 each, and they have a nice variety of meats (carne asada, adobada, pollo, buche, carnitas, pig ear, pig snout, etc.). This stand is a pop-up outside the Bonita's Farmers Market. Unfortunately, they only serve tacos on Saturdays and Sundays from 10AM - 4PM, so make an event out of it. To order, you go inside the Market and order from the cashier. From there, you take your receipt outside and hand it to whoever is manning the grill and let them know exactly what you want. My order today took about 10 minutes. Seating only consists of a few outdoor picnic tables w/umbrellas that are likely to be occupied, so be prepared to wait for seating or to take them home. Better yet, take them for a picnic somewhere nearby. And don't forget to ask for limon!

Yelp
"Toothsome" Bonita Farmer's Market is a hidden gem. Undiscovered, hidden away from the bustling bakery that is Hans and Harry next door cranking strudel after strudel, pastry after pastry. What Bonita Farmer's Market does in response, should you decide to visit it's doors, is crank out a delicious variety of cooked and prepared meats. The Tri-tip. An often dry and some would say overused but underwhelming aspect of the beef, is done right here. The tri-tip burrito they serve here is of simplicity. Meat, guac, and a little cilantro to balance it all out. The meal experience provides a toothsome feel to it, and overall provides a satisfying and satiating experience. The Chicharron, lemme tell you, I've been trying to find a place local to my home that does it right without having to make me drive towards the other side of town for it and seems to me, like I've found it. Crispy belly with little hints of meat. Moderation here is key, but it's a great snack that doesn't break the molars here. Overall, the market provides usual wares, it's not a crazy stocked market like the chain markets down the street, but it's quaint, simple, and easy on the eyes without feeling overwhelmed at the selection. There's also a good selection of alcohol for you fiends looking to inebriate yourselves for a party or night out. Service here is great, friendly, and welcoming. Understanding Spanish is a great plus though when visiting! But otherwise English is just fine. Verdict: 4.5*/5*

Yelp
If you don't like Bonita Farmer's Market, you don't like anything. They recently expanded to include a wine cellar (room), beer cave, and a fine selection of tequila. The butcher shop is a-one, not to mention a nice variety of refrigerated salsas, beans, guacamole, and other treats. The folks that work there are gracious, charming, and welcoming. Plus, they treat me with respect and dignity. Respect and dignity that I not only deserve, but demand.

Yelp

Yelp
Man I love this place We've been going here for years and they never disappoint! They've got the best guacamole! They also have great salsas. And don't forget their carne asada. We pick up a few pounds every other week or so and throw so great BBQs with their meat. If you're feeling lazier, they BBQ a mean Tri-Tip outside the store. I recommend getting their Tortas with the tri-tip... SOO good They just remodeled and expanded so the store is more spacious. Teresa still runs the register. Her service is great. She's the nicest lady ever... so thoughtful and caring
google avatar

Darlene G.

Yelp
Order their smoked meats that they have Friday-Sundays. The portions are party sized and well with the price, it was actually cheaper than expected for how much meat you get. Delicious smoke taste and tender meats. I tried the pork ribs, chicken, and tri tip. All good. They also have tortas everyday that are also very good. You can get it with the smoked chicken or tri tip. They have online ordering which makes picking up food a breeze.
google avatar

Isabel G.

Yelp
A coworker asked if I wanted a torta from the Bonita Farmer Market and I said, yes please. He came back with chicken and tri-tip torta. OMG!! The Tortas were very tasty. They're a good size. Good flavor with a lot of condiments in the center, but not overly packed that you can't enjoy because it's falling apart. Your order comes with a complementary drink and I recommend this place for lunch there fast and the cashier was very friendly. There's tables outside for you to sit and enjoy your lunch. There's more items on the menu. I have not had but for the Tortas. I give it five star.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
Tried their tri tip torta and it was delicious! The meat was very smokey, tender and flavorful, and everything else about the torta tasted fresh. Call ahead to order and you can either take it to-go or there are some tables right outside to eat at. It is a small market/liquor type store so there are snacks/beverages to go with it. Huge parking lot!
google avatar

Shirley R.

Yelp
This is the best market ever. Their Tortas are amazing and they do tacos some days of the week. Absolutely yum. Teresa and Sergio and the rest of the staff are super friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Seasoned carne asada meat has great taste. Also got rice and beans and both were good. Excellent fresh tortillas.

Marta L.

Yelp
We bought a whole 2.5 pound Tri-tip It was warm and so tender and juicy. The price wasn't bad $45. I was happy to pay and enjoy.

Yelp
We are rapidly becoming regulars at Bonita Farmer's Market. Their Smoked Chicken Torta and Smoked Tri Tri Torta are absolutely delicious. The way the flavors of the chicken and the tri tip blend together with the other ingredients on the sandwiches makes them just amazingly tasty. The first time we ordered we just got one chicken torta to split and we both loved it. We called again just a few days later and ordered the same thing. It wasn't until I got home with the sandwich that I realized we had accidentally been given tri tip instead of chicken. I didn't want to go back so we figured it was a good opportunity to try the tri tip. We loved it too and I'm so glad that little mistake was made because now we know that both sandwiches are terrific. So much so in fact, that when we call now, we order one chicken torta and one tri tip torta and bring them home where we each get a half of each sandwich and therefore the best of both worlds. The young woman who seems to always answer the phone is a sweetie and she's super friendly when you walk in to pick up the food. Not only is the place very clean, we also noticed that they have lots of produce that looks very appealing and a small fresh meat section as well. We are planning to go in one day and purchase some carne and pollo asada (and what looks like delicious guacamole!) to take home to cook along with some tortillas and some of the yummy looking produce. We love this small local business!
google avatar

J O.

Yelp
Undergoing renovation I think, no prices on any fresh meat and many price tags non existent, maybe I just want to know the price before I buy? Veggies are expensive. Friendly but store is very small.

Yelp
It was widely rumored that the Bonita Farmer's Market has the best smoked meats in San Diego. Let me tell you, this is true. A few weeks ago, I took home a full smoked chicken ($10) and it was DELICIOUS! The smoked, juicy flavor stuck to my fingers all day. I can't say enough about this chicken. In the age of $5 Costco chicken, the Bonita Farmer's Market smoked chicken is worth the drive down. I started with a smoked lamb (raised locally in Borrego) taco. Make sure to tell them "con todo" (with everything) when you order. The savory & juicy smoked lamb was topped with cilantro, fresh guacamole and onions. Salsa, green onions and fresh jalapeños are available for you to pile on yourself. Also available at the outdoor taquero: Carne Asada, adobada (rotisserie pork), chicken and tri-tip tacos ($3 each). Homemade menudo was also on the menu the day of my visit. Now to the main dish: The smoked tri-tip torta! It was everything I had heard about. The juicy, smoked flavor of the tri-tip was well complimented by the fresh sliced avocados, onions, tomatoes and romaine. The torta roll was nicely toasted and wrapped tightly around the smoked goodness. The market is stocked with cerveza and meat to take h

Yelp
I came a little too late and the market was closed. Out from the back comes a gentleman who happened to work or own the market. After a few pleasantries was passed between us he had me come through the back and sold me what I wanted. He didn't have to reopen the shop for me but he did and I'm thankful for it. Thanks Again, PS I will try my best to first go there for my food shopping needs before I go to one of big stores.

Yelp
Before we went to Hans & Harry's we stopped by here. Love supporting local business's. Friendly smile's and great tasting meat. One sample of their carne asada, and I knew I had to grab some. Can't wait to pick up some other cuts of meat for the grill. They just gained another customer. Can't believe I waited this long to purchase anything from them while I drive by all the time. On the weekends they offer smoked meat, which I hear they sell out all the time.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
We went here just to check it out. We had heard that they smoke tri tip on The weekends. We were a bit early to get one, but we did try their tri-tip torta. Let me just say this...we purchased one so my husband and I could share, after my first bite, I was upset I had to share!! I wanted my own! We definitely will be back!! Can't wait to get a tri-tip. It's a for sure a place to try.

Yelp
Best. Torta. Ever. Today we visited this spot located on the side roads of Bonita near the golf course. My boyfriend delivers soda here during the week and swears by their tortas. He's been telling me we should come here but I wasn't too excited to because all I could think of is the super large tortas with the hard bread. Today, I caved. We ordered the tri-tip torta and to my surprise, it was amazing! For about $13 you get the torta and a soda of your choice. The torta was a decent size and the bread is amazing! Soft and pillowy but not the least bit soggy it was perfect. The tri-tip is the star of the show, super juicy and smoky, I wanted it to never end. The flavor is amazing. Apparently they cook the tri-tip outside and smoke it for a while. Once cooked it is sliced and the tortas are born. The service was amazing, the entire team was so kind. I can't wait to go back, I highly recommend this place!

M S.

Yelp
Tri tip torta was amazing. For $12.99 you get a huge sandwich with a choice of drink. It was ready in 5 minutes. The customer service is excellent. It's a small mom and pop shop, I love the ambiance. We also got a couple of steak. Great deal, fresh meat. We love it here!

Yelp
Wow, this place is not the pretties place but it sure churns out some delicious. The place is actually a neighborhood market, but they also smoke meats and offer a smoked tri-tip torta. This is were Texan BBQ meets Mexican grub. The torta came nicely layered with tender smoky tri-tip. For a smoked meat, it not only had smoke flavor, but I was very impressed on how tender and juicy they were able to keep it. The smoke ring was quite evident as well. The torta came with with creamy ripe avocados, large sliced tomatoes, onions, romaine lettuce, and sliced jalapenos. One thing this torta could of used was a nice slice of cheese, like some Monterrey Jack cheese or a quality Mexican cheese. I loved the way they toasted the torta bun on the hot griddle. They also pressed it down a bit to develop a crust and to insure that the bun was heated all the way through. It was a great torta through and through. Like I said, the place is also a market. Well it is a market and they have a nice meat counter offering some nice cuts of proteins. Then ladies who work here are super nice and make good suggestions if you have questions.
google avatar

Patrick R.

Yelp
Tri-tip torta. Nothing else needs to be said. Order online or call ahead. I have been back to this place more than I would want to admit. I have taken a few people to this spot since it was shown to me and it always impresses.

Yelp
Pleasant experience coming in here Today. The cashier at Trader Joe's recommended this place to me, to find some chorizo. (I am trying out this new Soup Recipe.) This market is right by the Bikram Yoga place I used to work out at for years. (Random note: which I had to quit due to Spiritual warfare attacks :( ) ***Ok, So, The gentlemen working in the back was so Delightful!!! & the cashier assisted me. All was Appreciated. Thanks :) I Recommend this market, Edit: I realized the produce they carry is more expensive than buying it at Sprouts or Trader Joe's. ...Still a cute lil' market. But, it is pricey. ;/
google avatar

Fabio L.

Yelp
I wish i could put zero stars, absolutely horrible customer service. The owner sergio was not willing to help us out with our messed up order, the website was confusing and although it was our mistake in the actual order, the other sandwiches were cold, with mayo when they didn't have it on order, no avocado when it was ordered. The owner Sergio was very rude and yelling as he wanted no responsibility for their issue. last time I go there.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Just found this gem today! They are fully stocked on most essentials and most importantly their store is impeccably clean and their staff has still got their sense of humor. I found my husband's favorite beer, beans, rice, and juicy steaks. The staff was still able to crack a joke and lighten the mood in this very hard time. They made us some delicious steak sandwiches on Mexican Torta bread and also found ready cut fruit salad and my zero calorie energy drink. I am so grateful that they are still open and keeping the highest sanitary standards. The cashier even offered me a squirt of sanitizer after handing me my receipt. Seriously gives me peace of mind to find everything I needed and more. Will definitely be coming back for more steak and chicken.

Yelp
Outstanding meat products. After one visit I was hooked. Their smoked meats are wonderful. My family has really been enjoying many of their marinated products as well. Also in their cooler they have fresh refried beans, and other products of the highest quality you can not get anywhere else. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Roxie D.

Yelp
The best smoked tri tip sandwich we ever had! Quaint meat market small produce section and grocery. Old school. Love this find.
google avatar

Mike J.

Yelp
Wow, After years of passing this place by we finally tried it out. This will remind you of an old school East Coast butcher shop. We got the Adoboda and birria taco plates and went inside the store for a little tour. They have freshly made Guac and rice that is too die for. You need to try this place! We will be regulars from this point on!

RunDisney M.

Yelp
This small, locally owned business has been serving the community for quite some time. My family has been visiting and patronizing this business for many years. You get great customer, service, quality products, and always a great experience. The atmosphere is very cool, and there is a great and wide selection of delicious food products and meats. This business was recently renovated and looks great inside. The customer service here is excellent and the employees are so friendly and kind.

Yelp
A lil' gem in Bonita that I keep stopping by in whenever I'm in the area (aka, when I'm at my vet's or Hans & Harry's, lol). They have fresh produce, a beautiful array of meats, as well as Hispanic specialties on their shelves. They also carry beers, (bottled) sodas, and other typical grocery items you'd find in other markets. What I like about this place is that it is hidden from the public eye and prides itself in providing local goods and produce. They also smoke their meats in-store :O so you know their meat is fire! The workers are also friendly and nice :) Even when I just peruse through (because I'm nosy and like window shopping groceries, too, lol), they are always cheery and approachable. With that said, I ought to buy some meat from them and see what it's all about!
google avatar

Ramon G.

Yelp
This place has managed to keep a lot of products stocked even though times are tough. I am not sure what some of the other people are referring to in regards to the "price gouging." Most of the prices have been the same when it comes to the beans and rice. If you go on Amazon or the grocery store, you will not find much. Bonita Farmer's Market and hasn't raised the prices for beans and rice. In fact, vendors on Amazon are price gouging those products like crazy! In regards to the eggs, they have gone up EVERYWHERE. Here is an article I just read about it. https://www.wdrb.com/news/national/egg-prices-are-skyrocketing-because-of-coronavirus-panic-shopping/article_53eb07e2-6ef4-11ea-bdce-0b8e78ffd497.html I am just thankful that there is a local place I can support that is honest and willing to go the extra mile to help people. No one is making the owner drive himself all over town to find the products that people need. I suggest everyone be thankful because it could be a lot worse. You don't think "the distributor is charging them more for their product?" For Real? Read the above article. Benita F., Suckitupbuttercup and be prepared to make a lot of sacrifices in the near future that you probably will be complaining about, only you will not be able to take it out on YELP or the owner of the market. The crisis hasn't even started yet. Wait till all the medical professionals and first responders get sick and cannot work.
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
Nice little Mexican market kind of hidden in the back. Definitely going back for the marinated carne asada.

L G.

Yelp
I've always found the food here to be adequate to okay and less often good, but this last time I bought a very dry (I don't think it was from that day--it was really dry) very sour (maybe it had turned just a little?) spatchcock chicken and bought some shucked corn that turned out to have black mold once I unwrapped it. The limes and radishes and salsa were tasty but I probably won't go back.

Yelp
This is by far our favorite market to purchase meat ! The arrachera is our personal favorite , perfectly seasoned and juicy! The meat is worth every penny! Their produce is also very fresh, Highly recommend supporting this small business !

Fer G.

Yelp
The tri-tip tortas are very good. I've always had a good experience dealing with staff. Owners are wonderful.

Yelp
I got the roast beef torta and it was absolutely delicious!!! And everything taste so fresh!!

Yelp
The Tri Tip torta is amazing! My friends told me about this place and I had to try it and it was well worth it. Good flavor and very satisfying, I'll be back soon!

Adan R.

Yelp
Wonderful store, great atmosphere and one heck of a Torta! This store is always stocked with fresh produce and has a great meat department, it's also staffed with friendly and outgoing employees. Try the Tri Tip Torta, you won't regret it, it's delicious!

Yelp
They don't care about your health and are too good to wear masks. We just came from there and the owner was preparing food with no mask despite requiring them from customers and his own employee. He was literally talking over all the food and couldn't be bothered to put on a mask. I'll go safer places.
google avatar

Rico B.

Yelp
This is a small place but it carries enough of what you want. Fresh tortillas, guac, sauce and cream. Get there early for the better and fresher cuts of meat.
google avatar

Mahal C.

Yelp
Love this local meat market. We have tried the tri-tip (they smoke it, along with whole chickens). The carne asada is perfectly seasoned and my husband uses the briquettes/charcoal from there and tastes so good. Fresh guacamole and salsa is also something we pick up with fresh tortillas. It's usually a one-stop shop for a weekend BBQ with beer, wine and alcohol if needed. They also have some fresh vegetables and misc items. Check them out!
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
This market is FABULOUS! Their eggs are fresh, their seasoned tri-tip slices are phenomenal. Their mother makes the Ceviche, which is the best I've every had. They know me by name, and when I walk in, I feel I'm visiting family! (Even their lovely daughter runs the register - occasionally ). They just started making it possible for carry-outs of their wonderful carne asada, with tables nearby. Love this place!

Yelp
Fair prices and even has a few produce staples during these times. Plenty of parking and they have smoked meat and sandwiches for sale. Staff is always very friendly and willing to help. Prices may be a little more compared to bigger companies but the meat is quality and always fresh. Better than average beer selection. The highlight other than the meat are the homemade salsas and guacamole.
