Well. Half good, half bad. I was super excited after seeing the reviews and photos. Ordered the Sheer chai, which was advertised as a pink chai garnished with pistachio. The menu also had Afghan milk chai, which clearly was a different price and description. I ordered the Sheer Chai right when I got seated, and never received. We were the only couple in the place, had to remind the server after 15min. Then, a mug of normal chai was plopped down, I even showed the picture of the drink in their website, and I said this isn't what was ordered. She gaslit me and said sheer chai means milk chai, and that's what she gave me... It was honestly pretty good though. Also ordered the Murgh Karahi, which was amazing and a bit spicy. It came with a huge fresh naan bread. Ordered the zeresk rice on the side, it was also a large portion and totally worth it. Sadly, the Ash was terrible-of course, to each their own. It was an odd combo of carrot slice, lentils, beans, chick peas and over cooked noodles. We did let them know how we felt about the Ash and chai, no apologies given. Will absolutely not be back.

Delicious brunch with large shareable portions. Cute clean decor. Would recommend: chaikhana breakfast and lamb Karahi.

We ordered food today from Bonjon Rumi and shared it with our colleagues at the office. Everyone absolutely loved it — the flavors were rich and authentic. The Manto and Kabuli Palow were the highlights of the meal — perfectly cooked, beautifully spiced, and truly delicious. Our team includes coworkers from different countries, and everyone enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Thank you for the amazing food and great service. We’ll definitely be ordering again!

This Afghan restaurant is a great choice for anyone trying out new food in DC. Ordered the Ashak, tandoori naan, barta, sabzi chalaw, borani kadoo and halwa sooji with ice cream. For drinks it was dance universe and the parrot of heaven. The cocktails were great! The bartender was kind enough to switch the alcohol base to vodka instead of rum. The first batch of naan didn't taste fresh but the second batch was warm and good. Rice and the pumpkin dish was to die for. Sabzi was fine. Great ambiance and even better customer service. Everyone that served was very kind, sweet and attentive.

From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and a beautifully designed space that exudes Afghan culture. The food was simply outstanding—every dish was rich in flavor, perfectly spiced, and made with fresh ingredients. Started with the mantu (Afghan dumplings), which were soft, flavorful, and drizzled with a delicious yogurt sauce. The kabuli pulao was a highlight—perfectly cooked rice with tender lamb, sweet raisins, and crunchy almonds, creating an amazing balance of flavors. The kebabs were juicy and grilled to perfection, and the freshly baked naan paired beautifully with their savory dips. To top it all off, the fereni (Afghan pudding) was a perfect way to end the meal—light, fragrant, and just the right amount of sweetness. Service was attentive and friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking for authentic Afghan cuisine in DC, Bonjon Rumi is a must-visit! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I went last night with some girlfriends and we're all SO excited to welcome this restaurant to our neighborhood. The ambiance was lovely, the wine was delicious and very reasonable ($28/bottle?!), the service was perfection (frequently refilling water, checking in but not rushing us since my friends and I had a lot to catch up on), and most importantly, the food was DELICIOUS. I need to try everything on the menu now. We started with the Baba Ganoush and the Mantu dumplings. OMG - the dumplings are the best thing I've eaten in a long time. For my main course, I ordered the Kofta Chalaw - slow-cooked beef meatballs in a rich tomato gravy served with rice. I ate too many dumplings so I brought half of this dish home and it was just as delicious the next day. A couple of my friends ordered vegetarian items, which were delicious and flavorful and only $9. We probably should have ordered a bunch of items to share. I can't wait to come back on a date night with my husband and/or to try brunch.

Yelp
Bonjon Rumi is a welcome addition to the Glover Park neighborhood. The food is tasty, the service is friendly, and I love that it adds a diverse new dimension to the area. Some of the highlights include: * Mix Maza of spreads including hummus, baba ghanoush, barta, and mast-u khiar - all flavorful and served with copious portions of fresh warm pita bread * Mantu - the dumplings filled with beef were really delicious - it is nice to see this cultural staple done so well * Kabuli Palaw - the rice in this dish is so buttery and fragrant, and the lamb is cooked to perfection * Chainaki - a unique dish that is served with a warm and comforting broth. I liked how different this was from anything I've had before * Lamb kabob - the meat came out nicely cooked, and was marinated in a lot of delicious spices * Desserts - halwa sooji and sheerbrenj - both were tasty and not overly sweet My group's only qualm was that the serving sizes are overly generous on the rice / sides and less so on the main proteins / meats. Overall, highly recommend giving this place a try, and hopefully this establishment can stick around the neighborhood as there has been a ton of turnover over the past 3-5 years.

Yelp
Bonjon Rumi is a newer Afghan restaurant that offers breakfast, brunch, lunch, as well as dinner options. We came here as a group to have an early dinner; we started off with: +Baba Ghanoush - an eggplant dip with tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and olive oil +Hummus - mashed chickpeas with tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil, garnished with roasted onions +a Rumi basket - this contained Lola kabob (fried ground beef mixed with lentils, potato, garlic, herbs, and spices), fries, onion rings, and mozzarella sticks +Mantu - dumplings stuffed with beef, topped with lentils, veggies, and yogurt; comes with 4 pieces For our mains, we shared: +the Kabuli Palaw - rice with lamb, topped with shredded carrots, almonds, and golden brown raisins; we requested extra raisins, in which they obliged +Morgh Karahi - bone-in chicken, prepared with capsicum, onions, and tomatoes, garnished with cilantro; served with tandoori nan +Ashak - ravioli filled with leeks, topped with minced beef and yogurt; comes with 6 pieces +a Shrimp Kabob +Mix Grill Kabob - with chicken, lamb, and beef kabob; served with homemade chutney +Buranee Kadoo - butternut topped with garlic yogurt, dried mint, and cayenne +and, Chickpeas Portions were on the smaller end, so 'sharing' wasn't really an option, just 'sampling'. The interior was clean and bright, and I liked the exposed wooden frames, and the light fixtures that looked like tear drops, hanging from an ivy-like attachment. Staff were friendly, and we were warmly welcomed. Limited street parking in the area. +friendly service +limited parking

Yelp
I didn't hav a good experience with the food, $38 for mixed grill that barely had enough mixed meats and mostly rice and salad overpriced. Gormeh Sabzi was dry and had no stew

Yelp
We ate lunch there today and it was delicious. This Afghan restaurant in Glover Park is new and they sure know how to make Afghan food. We had Buranee Bademjan, Mantu, Gormah Sabsi, and Chapli Kabob. It came with lots of Naan. We were stuffed and had to ask for boxes to go. Will definitely go back!

Yelp
Came here on a random Sunday for lunch. We sat down right away. The place is really cute with a greenery wall. It looks like it's a two level place, could be wrong about that. The staff is friendly and service was great. The food was good, but I wasn't a fan of most of the dishes we got. The food was fresh but something felt like it was missing. I should also mention I am Afghan do it could be a regional thing, where different regions spice their food differently from other regions. The aushak wasn't bland for me and I'm not used to eating it fried. It tasted fresh. The sambosa, the filling was great but it was in the same breading as the aushak which I felt took away from it hitting the mark for me. I'm used to having it in a much more flaky phyllo. Minus that it was how I always like them. I should also mention I can't do sour yogurt, just doesn't taste good to me. It seems like they use sour yogurt in a lot of them dishes. I'm used to plain yogurt with garlic. We got this stew dish which for me was bland as well. The lamb was very soft and melt in your mouth which I liked. Overall, the food is fresh and is good, it's just my personal preference that didn't allow me to love it, which is not the restaurant's fault, it's me not them. I would recommend people to try it still.

Yelp
A great new addition to Wisconsin Ave! Visited on a Sunday for brunch. First and foremost, the menu is extensive and has something for everyone! My sister is vegetarian and usually just gets dips at Afghani restaurants, but there were plenty of vegetarian entrees for her and they were delicious and cheap ($9!!!) Our group started off with the cold mezze platter, which set us off on the right foot w hummus, baba ganoush, barta, and mast-u khair. We then got the sabzi, buranee bademjan, qorma chalaw, and morgh karahi for our mains. All of the dishes were delicious and we had plenty of food with enough for leftovers too! The restaurants decor is also lovely and the servers were kind and incredibly helpful as well!

Yelp
I have been here several times and see the same staff and same waitress that I think is good. I had the Rumi salad that I thought was just great and the hot Ash soup that totally hit the spot on the cold, rainy day I visited. The wines are different from other places in the area. I had a glass of Fairfax County Pinot Noir and it was one of best most fruity reds I have had. The interior is much improved over the previous place that just served pizza. The lighting was lovely, the flowers on the bar table were just beautiful and did not even look like silk flowers. This created a low-key atmosphere that was low stress. No loud music or loud noise. The location is perfect - right at a major bus stop. I think this place will do much better than the previous place because the menu is so different from offerings in the local area. I will return!

Yelp
Our reservation was a bit early in the evening & the place was empty so we didn't know what to expect. (It did fill up as the night went on). There were 5 of us & we ordered for family style. Our server was very good & had a great sense of humor. The food was delicious; we had the dumplings, meatballs, lamb & chicken. Everything was very tasty, highly recommend. We will definitely return on our next visit to DC.

Yelp
A welcome addition to our local food scene, this new Afghan place was a great stop for lunch. We'll definitely be back to try out the dinner menu!

Yelp
Yesterday, their opening day - we ate at this Afghani restaurant in Glover Park. What a gem! The food was authentic, very tasty, and well presented. The beverage selection was limited, but I am sure that will be corrected . The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We will be returning!
