The Best Restaurants In Koreatown - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Specialties: Porridge This sleepy porridge spot in Koreatown is a great place for a work lunch when you have the sniffles, a casual weeknight dinner, or tearing up at the adorable elderly couple at the table over. Bon Juk is a quiet spot that serves lots of different types of porridge - including pumpkin, black sesame, and red bean. Our favorites, though, are the ones with ginseng chicken or mixed seafood - filled with abalone, shrimp, and mussels. The porridge itself is thick but never mushy, and particularly good when you amp it up with the marinated beef and kimchi banchan options." - Brant Cox, Nikko Duren, Sylvio Martins

The 16 Best Hangover Meals In LA

"There are plenty of excellent bars in Koreatown, so it makes sense that there are also plenty of places to nurse a hangover. When we’re really in pain, we prefer porridge, and Bonjuk makes our favorite. It’s thick, hearty, and, according to the menu, healthy, including one bowl that’s supposed to cure weariness, and another that aids in detoxification. So basically, perfect for a hangover. We usually go for the pumpkin, the chicken ginseng, or the beef and mushroom - all of them come pretty unseasoned, which is good if you’re having stomach issues, but you can add in banchan to make them more flavorful. Koreatown Takeout & Delivery Guide

"Contrary to popular belief (and your co-worker’s Instagram strategy), sometimes, less is more. Take Bonjuk for example - this quiet spot on Wilshire is as sleepy as they come, but their tremendous bowls of porridge speak for themselves. Our go-tos are the ones made with ginseng chicken and mixed seafood (abalone, shrimp, mussels, etc.). Available for takeout and delivery." - brant cox, kat hong

"Part of a popular Seoul-based chain and located on the ground floor of an office building, Bon Juk is an ode to rice porridge, the ultimate Korean comfort food. Oversize photos of its various types hang on the wall, acting as a kind of communal menu, and feature popular iterations like chicken and ginseng, black sesame, and octopus and kimchi. On those rare chilly LA days, this is the place to come for a warming, satisfying—utterly Korean—meal. "

Comfort food for the soul and tummy. Had the Samgae (chicken with oriental ingredients) for supper. Came back the next morning for Octopus and Kimchi. Really tasty, full of ingredients, with small sides like kimchi and radish. Recommend you just eat it fresh and steaming so that the satisfaction goes right to your core. So. Freaking. Good. You know a place is legit when Koreans are ordering non stop. Was brought back to Insadong Seoul when I first tried Bonjuk and this did not disappoint. This place made me happy. T^T

❗️$15 min for cards! This place is awesome! I literally fell in love. They have a lot of options! The bowl with porridge is huge plus you’re getting side dishes. I liked my $13 Mushroom & Oyster Porridge so much that ordered a Pumpkin one to go to try (they give you all the side dishes to go as well) Will definitely come back when I’m next time in LA.

I enjoyed eating juk here because it was warm and comforting. I think the price is much, but California living I guess. I recommend getting the shrimp juk because it comes out HOT and flavorful. The shrimp portion is just right because you want to eat a spoonful of juk and a piece of shrimp on the top!

PROS: - Excellent food: Chicken porridge with oriental ingredients and the seafood porridge tasted so good! After eating them, I felt satisfied and healthy. The portions were huge! It came with delicious side dishes as well that complimented the porridge - Wait time: We received our food in a reasonable amount of time (about 10 minutes). - Ambiance: It was in a food court, but it was very clean! The seats and tables for Bonjuk were quite nice. NO CONS! Would I come here again? YES

We were craving some savory porridge and this was the place to be. A restaurant dedicated to juk. Great for cold or sick days. But I could go for this any day. I ordered the tuna vegetable option and it was extremely tasty. The side pickles are delicious. We kept asking for more kimchi. Good portion size, but I know my male comrade was still hungry by the end. A healthy lunch, indeed.

FYI they moved locations to the food court in California Market! Address: 450 S Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90020 This location is definitely an upgrade from their previous location since parking is free and plentiful now. For those who don't know, juk is Korean porridge and is a staple in every Korean's life. My mom would always give me juk when I was sick and not feeling well. Bonjuk takes that home-made taste and elevates it to another level. So far, I've tried their Samge (chicken) juk as well as their Seafood Combo juk. Samge juk (10/10): Samge juk is very hearty and soul warming. It comes with a lot of chicken and huge portions. This one is definitely my go-to and would recommend. Seafood Combo (9/10): If you're more into seafood, I would recommend getting the Seafood Combo. When I eat this, it feels like I've been transported to a seaside village in Busan. The juk doesn't taste or smell fishy at all and has a very clean taste.

Delicious and comforting! BokJuk LA serves rich, flavorful porridge with fresh ingredients and perfect seasoning. The kimchi and sides were amazing, and the service was friendly. A must-try for Korean comfort food lovers!

I love their kimchi porridge. The restaurant is at a plaza. The wait takes about ~30 minutes though.
