19 Standout Korean Restaurants in Murray Hill, Queens | Eater NY

"Bonjuk is the temple to jook, with 25 versions of rice porridge each as soul-satisfying as the next. For something spicy and deluxe, order the kimchi and octopus jook; for traditional, get the abalone; for super homey (what parents make for their kids on sick days), get the ground beef and vegetables. In every jook, the rice and hefty portions of the non-rice components have fused together to become one large steaming bowl of Korean comfort food." - Caroline Shin

Great food: vegetable porridge, curry chicken katsu, and bonchon (side dishes like kimchi. Good service, presentation, atmosphere. Gives chefs table vibes.

I’ve been a regular at this restaurant for several years now, and every time I visit, the staff warmly welcomes me and provides excellent service. I especially love their curry pork cutlet. The meat is tender and flavorful, with a crispy exterior and a juicy inside. The portions are generous, and with the delicious food and friendly service, I highly recommend this place!

Google
This place is really delicious. Loved the vegetable porridge, the side dishes are very refreshing and fresh. We also got the chicken curry Katsu which was crispy and delicious. What I really appreciated is the attention to detail and presentation as well as the freshness of the food. Will definitely become a staple place whenever we need some comforting food. Highly recommend!

Come here during the grand opening, a very cozy restaurant with less than 10 seats. Ordered their octopus kimchi porridge and pork bulgogi. The porridge is very tasty 👍

This is my go to restaurant if I ever feel sick and need some warming, soothing congee to feel better. After binging on too much Korean BBQ, I am a big fan of eating the right food the few days to help with illness. Bonjuk has saved me many times. Food: The Korean style congee is thicker and has more numerous versions than I have seen in Cantonese restaurants. I recommend getting the Octopus Kimchi for something with a little spicy, fermented tang. The Salmon or Tuna Congee is great if you want something lighter but still savory. They also have sweet dessert like congees such as pumpkin which is really good. I am smiling even as I write this review because I feel so warmed inside just thinking about the food. They have renovated not so long ago and now also include Bibimbap, both regular and also in a Stone Pot. There are also some Kastu dishes on their menu. I am glad they are expanding and giving some more options. I have the expectation that those dishes will be just as healthy as their congee, but if its your first time, just order the Congee. Worth a mention is also their Mung-bean blended cold drink. It can be a little sweeter than I expect sometimes, but it is a delicious cold accompaniment to the hot congee that you eat. Price wise, they do lean more expensive than your typical lunch and for dinner, it may not fill you up as much if you are looking for more food. However, they are really the only Korean Congee game in town. If you want authenticity and good Korean comfort food, Bonjuk is worth the visit.

Unlike the other reviews, we had excellent customer service. The waitress was courteous throughout the dining experience. Though I m not a Korean speaker, it's easy to tell that she answered the phone calls for delivery and takeout efdiciently and professionally. Now the food wasn't bad but it wasn't overly great neither. For the price, I would have like for the Kimchi Pancake to be more crispy. It did pair nicely with the Mung Bean drink, though 🥤The Kimchi Octopus Congee was nourishing with a firey kick.

Google
The food was decent, and the service was pretty good, but the hot tea wasn’t hot at all. The lady seemed busy, so she couldn’t really give much attention to the customers. There’s definitely room for improvement. It’s a small thing, but it felt like the waitress wasn’t paying much attention. Also, I’m not sure why, but all the side dishes were way too salty.

Google
pricey! very tricky! i ordered 2 abalone porridge but there is NO abalone at all they put regular mushroom you can get from supermarket but in ABALONE price for $22.95 compares to Congee village abalone and chicken congee for $10.25. there is nothing looks alike Abalone!

Yelp
Loved this joint in Korea, and I loved it just as much here. Right when we came, there was a kind lady tending to us. She was the best in exemplifying a fast chill service. I was wary of the portion size behind the seafood options here, so I got the Beef and Mushroom congee. It was so flavorful! The banchan accompanied our every bite that we needed second helpings. The Cheese Katsu was also phenomenal. The cheese is a fantastic addition to the traditional dish. Lastly, the Pumpkin smoothie was spectacular. It was expensive, but I trust fresh ingredients were used in producing such a natural sweet taste. Prices are expensive, but this store is such a necessity during under the weather days!

Yelp
Bonjuk serves traditional Korean rice porridge / congee. It's healthy, filling, and delicious. For those who aren't a fan of congee, they also serve bibimbap, hot stone bibimbap, and katsu of various kinds. Bonjuk is clean and service is also very friendly. Though if you come in the off-hours, the restaurant is uncomfortably quiet. We ordered the chicken congee and hot stone spicy seafood bibimbap with an extra egg. The chicken congee was fine and there was a minor issue with the bibimbap. The rice wasn't toasted enough...at least not for a "hot stone". The other issue I had was the add-on egg for $2.50. The picture on the menu clearly depicts the egg as sunnyside up but I got a very overcooked over-hard eggs. I asked the server about it and she said sunnyside up is up they do it in Korean and they do over-hard here. Then I questioned her reasoning because the menu showed sunnyside up and even their TV screen shows my dish with sunnyside-up. I was expecting the server to grant my request to ask the kitchen to re-make my eggs properly or at the very least remove the egg from the bill...she did neither. It may sound a bit extreme...ranting about an egg...but a bibimbap without a gooey egg just seems incomplete. I may still come again but Bonjuk may not be my first choice.

Yelp
The ultimate comfort food- Juk, congee, porridge. Different names with slightly different twists, it's a food that transcends across cultures, but delivers the same warmth and deliciousness in every form. Although on the pricier side (about $20 per bowl) the quality of this juk is high. It's silky, delicious, and addicting. I crave it way too much. For such a simple dish, Bonjuk has quite the hold on me. I just wish it was a little more affordable but clearly I just need to learn how to make juk on this level. The bon chon sides are a perfect topper too. Especially love the shredded pork. One criticism is we weren't crazy about the kimchi pancake. It wasn't crispy enough and was bland as well. We will have to try the cheese cutlet next time.

Yelp
I'm dating a porridge fiend (complimentary) and we were excited to find this spot. No wait when we walked in at 1:50 PM on a holiday Monday. I tried the beef mushroom porridge and sweet pumpkin porridge - both excellent and portions are huge! 4.5 stars.

Yelp
Juk, or congee (originally a Tamil word), is not often found on restaurant menus. While certainly a staple of Korean cooking, juk's simplicity as a porridge predisposes the dish towards home kitchens. Bonjuk, however, has found a way to turn juk into a destination dish by playing up its potential medicinal qualities - it is indeed the kind of dish you would want to eat to recover from a cold. The atmosphere is somewhere between temple-like and a doctor's office, with a solemn volume level adopted by customers and the temperature turned up to a level to put you to sleep. But all that being said, this is the best juk or rice porridge of any culture that you will eat anywhere in New York. There is a deep flavor of mushrooms in some of the vegetarian varieties, and the patjuk, a red bean congee eaten to ward off evil spirits at the time of the winter solstice, has an indescribable heartiness.

Yelp
The food is always great here it's a cozy soup spot that I always enjoy eating. I usually have my favorite chicken porridge But this time I had their Katsu curry not knowing this was on the menu before so deff wanted to try something new. The curry was so good and didn't disappoint the Katsu was so crispy and juicy Also got a hot pumpkin porridge on the side can't forget that so good for the super cold days!! Took my gf here and she loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
The Cheese Katsu had a great cheese pull. The cheese didn't feel too thick or heavy. It didn't feel like there was a lot of pork, but just three pieces in, I started getting satisfied. I also tried the Sweet Pumpkin Porridge, which wasn't too sweet or too heavy. The rice cakes were chewy. On a Christmas Eve afternoon, the restaurant was quiet, perfect for a comforting meal. The staff was very kind.

Yelp
Bonjuk serves up the ultimate comfort and health conscious food for those craving juk, congee or rice porridge (however you call it in your culture)! We came here for an early breakfast and there was only one lady working, she was very sweet and attentive. The ambiance is your traditional cozy Korean restaurant inside with clean facilities. We ordered two bowls of porridge to share between the 3 of us and it was more than enough. Each bowl comes with yummy banchan or sides to complement the main entree. All the ingredients taste super fresh and high quality. They also serve up fresh juices such as pumpkin which is very refreshing and healthy if you are craving something cold. I would highly recommend checking out Bonjuk as this is a pretty unique restaurant.

Yelp
Was pleasantly surprised to see an expanded menu that included bibimbap and donkatsu. Every so often, I crave Korean juk and Bonjuk is always made with high quality ingredients. Some of our favorite porridge options are abalone, oyster and gamtae seaweed, beef with mushroom and crab. The spicy seafood hot stone bibimbap was a perfect marriage of vegetables and assorted seafood. The extra crispy rice bits were the highlight. I think takeout portions are smaller than the dine-in portions. My juk was huge!
google avatar

Luna C.

Yelp
Trying oyster porridge for the first time was a delightful adventure. The dish showcased a robust oyster flavor that was truly commendable, though I wished there a few more oysters in it. I just love oysters. The bibimbap was a pleasant surprise. You can taste each ingredient, and the way flavors come together is yummmm. Moreover, the customer service was very warm and welcoming. I will be returning.

Yelp
Bonjuk serves clean comfort food for when you feel sick, hungover, tired... It's one of very few Asian restaurants that don't make me feel physically horrible for hours after, maybe they don't put MSG, it's very light and feels like home cooking. They put soothing classical music and the place is spotless. I came in feeling a bit under the weather and felt definitely much better after our meal. The star missing is because it's definitely quite overpriced. We got their special porridge which is 40$, and it definitely was not worth that. Only tiny bites of abalone, and the taste wasn't much to write home about. I'd suggest getting one of the cheaper porridges instead. With so many restaurants on Northern blvd that are much more bang for buck, this is where Bonjuk loses a bit to competitors.

Yelp
Food 4.0/5.0 Service 2.0/5.0 Value 3.5/5.0 Decor 3.0/5.0 Overall 4.0/5.0 It's been a while, but I loved Bonjuk in Seoul. This wasn't quite as good, but it was still pretty good. I see the negative feedback from others about the abalone porridge and while it's true, but its also not that realistic to expect a meaningful amount of abalone in what's ultimately the cheaper version of the abalone juk. Just get the other juk.
google avatar

Hanna B.

Yelp
The service is good and the place is well decorated and kept clean. I always order take out and usually order the chicken porridge. It comes with some mini sides that go with the dish. I also get their pumpkin smoothies too.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my go to comfort spots! I always order from Bonjuk when I'm feeling sick. Also my go to spot when it's cold as well. I always get the octopus bulgogi. The flavor is very subtle and I love the sides that they give. It pairs well with the congee. I always enjoy picking up a juk from here! Highly recommend this local gem!
google avatar

Yelp
Really great juk, but extremely overpriced for small portions. Rather make this at home than order next time!

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Service: 2.5/5 Ambiance: 2.5/5 This is my go to restaurant if I ever feel sick and need some warming, soothing congee to feel better. After binging on too much Korean BBQ, I am a big fan of eating the right food the few days to help with illness. Bonjuk has saved me many times. Worth a mention is also their Mung-bean blended cold drink. It can be a little sweeter than I expect sometimes, but it is a delicious cold accompaniment to the hot congee that you eat. Service is always polite, but depending on the day and server working, they either don't pay attention to you unless you go looking for them or they do the normal amount of work to come refill some of your water. Price wise, they do lean more expensive than your typical lunch and for dinner, it may not fill you up as much if you are looking for more food. However, they are really the only Korean Congee game in town. If you want authenticity and good Korean comfort food, Bonjuk is worth the visit.

Yelp
I ordered a mushroom and oyster porridge for delivery. It arrived hot and delicious with mini sides intact. I will order again when I am feeling sick.

Yelp
BEST. KOREAN. JOOK. IN. NYC!! Honestly, it's as good as a home-cooked Korean meal. Recommend the Miyeok(Seaweed) & Beef Juk. It filled me up instantly. This is my go to dish here in & service is awesome when you ask for refills on the sides. The chopped spicy radish & JangJorim (marinated shredded beef) is the best!!! Flavorful!!! Highly recommend whenever you're feeling sick or hungover!!
google avatar

Becky C.

Yelp
Abalone Porridge is not worth the price. There are mostly mushroom pieces and you can't even taste or see the abalone. Also it tastes like they put a lot of msg when it is supposed to be a "healthy food". I'm never getting it anymore.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for the longest time and when my bf got his wisdom teeth removed... timing was perfect!! After this experience, I'm definitely adding this to my list when I don't feel well and need some juk. I got the samgae porridge (chicken) and my bf was debating between seafood combination or imitation crab. He went for seafood. When we got the food.. we instantly realized how huge the bowls were. I mean holy cow, portions are huge! I think 3 people sharing two would be perfect. The porridge comes with three sides/ toppings. I really liked them all, and paired well with the juk. Half way.. we were both pretty stuffed, BUT... my bf asked for more of one side dish and some how.. WE BOTH ENDED UP FINISHING OUR ENTIRE BOWL OF JUK. Ok, I'm not too surprised about my bf finishing it, but MEEE! I was amazed and was super stuffed idk how I did it. But it was that good, I just kept eating it, till it was gone. I can't wait to come back here and try their other flavors... and will probably actually save half so I don't feel like rolling on the floor afterwards haha! Prices are a littleeee high for juk, but the portion size is good and they back it up with quality too.

Yelp
Place was okay, but had to knock this place down a few points for a wide variety of reasons. Came here in the middle of summer and immediately noticed a foul odor that enveloped the entire place. Was incredibly put off by the smell and as I looked around and gave a nod of approval in admiration of the decor here, was immediately put off again by the swarm of flies that seemed to have dominated the place. I'm not sure what happened, but part of me thinks they cook with a lot of seafood, and someone probably forgot, or hasn't been taking out the trash lately. Either way ignored it as I usually care more about the food, which turned out to be fairly average as well. Ordered the cheese tonkatsu which was enjoyable and done well, as well as the octopus congee which was done not so well. Octopus boiled for long periods of time becomes rubbery and hard to chew......not a great combo when boil with rice for a long time. Definitely a novel option since Korean congee is not something you usually see however I'll just stick to other congee spots from now on
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the porridge. Had the beef & vegetable with the pumpkin juice, which was more a smoothie in terms of consistency. The food felt like something you'd get at mom's so it's consistent with the ads/ other reviewers. I'd definitely order out on rainy day.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a 10/10! I love their porridge!!! We got the seafood combination and beef/mushroom porridge. Def recommend this place!

Yelp
Bonjuk is the perfect answer to a cold winter day. I feel all the warm fuzzies whenever I order a bowl of porridge from this place. It's the one dish I will always get whenever someone I know is sick. First of all, their orders are made on the spot. It'll take about 15-20 mins, depending on how large the order is. I've ordered different items from the menu several times and all of orders I've had were flavorful in every bite. Bonjuk does not go skimpy on adding in the nutritious ingredients & although they tend to be on the pricier side for porridge, you pay for what you get (and trust me, it's a bulk-load of goodness!). And if you ever need to do take-out, Bonjuk's packaging is impeccable. The porridge is always in spill-proof containers. And don't let the size of the containers fool ya - there's definitely enough for 2 servings in each one! I'm so glad my friend introduced me to Bonjuk over a year ago. I've been ordering from Bonjuk on the regular & never a regret!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
High quality comfort food. Their porridge is thick and full of ingredients. Perfect for a cold day or if you're feeling under the weather. They also have bibimbap and katsu if you're looking for something less healthy (haha). I had the beef with seaweed and the pumpkin. Both were delicious. Will definitely come back in the winter months!
google avatar

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
I love bonjuk! This is a franchise korean porridge place. Tastes like the bonjuk in Korea and in LA. My favorite is the classic- abalone porridge. Each porridge comes with 3 tiny side dishes and some dongchimi to aid in digestion. Perfect for when you are sick or need a warm hearty meal! One order is enough for two meals unless you're starving. I don't believe they are on any meal delivery service platforms but just call and pick up! I went on a rainy Saturday morning and they were steadily busy. Popular place for takeout, especially during covid!
google avatar

Sharon Z.

Yelp
Always a solid choice if you want some Korean porridge. It'll make you feel super warm and cozy :) their side dishes also pair really well with the juk
google avatar

Kelda C.

Yelp
The porridge is great here BUT........ Menu prices are not current in the Yelp pictures nor on the menus issued by the restaurant. Why would a restaurant still consciously supplying out-of-date menus? Many people noted that the porridge selection is expensive.....well compared to the menus seen on Yelp, as of at least today, expect to pay an additional +20% increase on prices. I bought a beef and mushroom, advertised as $11.95......we paid $15.19 (after tax)......that is not a subtle price increase. The portions for takeout I feel are significantly smaller than dining in, so I would recommend the latter if you're looking to satiate your cravings. Currently ridiculously overpriced for what you're getting, takeaway is certainly NOT a 2-person-sized portion :( POSITIVES: - well-packed - delicious, especially during colder weather - tastes very similar to the restaurant locations in Seoul, South Korea. Abalone porridge is a must when you visit any juk house, samgye porridge is worth a try too. Definitely worth visiting if you're treating yourself or if you're feeling ill. The restaurant really needs to be transparent with prices though :/

Shinhae C.

Yelp
Have they gone downhill or did I just get a bad batch. Ordered octopus kimchi porridge while feeling under the weather and everything is overly salty, spicy and just not edible. Too bad I had to drive 30 minutes to get this. Otherwise, I would bring it back. I suspect they dropped the salt shaker by mistake.
google avatar

Em K.

Yelp
Love this place! They made the best porridge- price is quite high but it's definitely worth it. I tried salmon and veggie, tuna and veggies both are super delicious. Also bulgogi and octopus and kimchi and octopus both are flavorful and yummy! Good Togo package and didn't spill or anything. I love their Togo container- it is totally reusable. Side dish are quite small though..

Yelp
Came in with my family early evening around 5 or 6pm on a Sunday and it was pretty empty. It seems like they get more takeout orders than sitdown customers but it wasn't prime dinner time when we went. I had a cold so a big warm bowl of porridge was just what I needed. I ordered the bulgolgi octopus porridge while my dad ordered the seaweed oyster porridge and my grandparents got seafood porridges. Service was a bit slow as there was only one waitress who not only handled the cashier and phone calls but also taking orders and bringing it out. We were in no rush and the waitress was really nice, she did her best to explain to us what the options were when asked and was attentive with refilling tea and side dishes. The porridge comes out on a tray with a big bowl of porridge, a smaller bowl to scoop the porridge into, and a few side dishes such as kimchi, radish, soy sauce pork? or so. The kimchi was decently spicy which was nice. The porridge itself was pretty good and tasted nutritious. Octopus pieces were nice bite sizes but the bulgolgi was not cut well, it was too big and not cut into small pieces so it was difficult to eat. Besides that, it was a nice healthy meal and easy to eat for my elderly grandparents too.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
I have been ordering takeout/delivery at this place for awhile. Today, is the first time where the porridge does not have any flavor. Someone forgot to add the flavoring that Im used to for years. Thank you so much for ruining my dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow...I did not expect porridge/congee/Juk can taste this good! & trust me, it's worth the above average price for this stuff. If you're feeling under the weather, this is the way to go. Let's get into detail: Place - a very comforting and zen place. They have classical music playing in the background and people respect others where they don't go around talking loud. The seating was comfortable and parking is abundant out in front. Food - I ordered the ginseng chicken porridge and it was delicious. I had it to go and don't worry about it being a mess because they have these rectangular boxes that can withstand the heat of it and that can hold up for you to eat it with no issues. It came with small sides of kimchi and other stuff I'm not sure of but it was good with the whole meal. Also a plus is their sturdy and good looking bags! The chicken came shredded and the consistency was perfect. Sometimes when you go to the Chinese spots for congee they come too watery or too thick and if you're lucky, you'll get it right. This place changes the porridge / congee game for me. I'll be coming here for my fix and if I'm not feeling well, I'll be ordering from here. Great spot that I highly recommend.
google avatar

Lani C.

Yelp
Porridge is always a solid choice for upset stomachs, hangovers, sick days, or just because. So comforting, soothing, and flavorful. Despite having grown up with porridge, this is my first Korean styled one, and I'm a huge fan! A great mix of different ingredients, making the meal feel hearty and warm. My only gripe is with the price. Definitely pricier items considering how unsubstantial the food is- the full feeling goes away fairly quickly. Side dishes for takeout are disappointingly small. This place may have converted me to trying more Korean porridges, but I probably will not be returning too often.

Yelp
Best place to get something healthy to eat if you're feeling sick or just want something light in your tummy.
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't get a chance to take any pictures however the congee was so delicious. It had the right amount of flavors and felt very rich with nutrients.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow is it sad to say that this is the best meal I have had in NYC so far? The commute to here is a bit far for me (3 trains and a bus), but is really worth it. The samgae porridge was so good (chicken+vegetable) as the ingredient and cooking quality were high. Really need to try the abalone porridge next time I come. I got the pumpkin juice which tasted so good. This is where you go to get porridge to help you recover from eating unhealthy. I felt like coming into another world and leaving like I had went to a spa. The only issue here is that all this good quality comes at a price. My samgae porridge was $14.95 and the pumpkin juice was $6.95. Worth every penny as a casual treat.

Yelp
Last Wednesday I was in flushing area. It was cold and rainy day. I stopped by to bon juk and was greeted by nice lady as soon as I walked in. I been here few times last few years ago but now the traveling to flushing it's hard so I stopped going. This place is a big plus if you had wisdom or any tooth out since you shouldn't chew anything. It's also good for health. I really liked the interior. So there were no customer at the time I went since it was around 9:30am but there were alot of take out. Oyster mushroom porridge: The seasoning and everything was great! Sometime oyster has fishy smells but this place didn't which was a big plus for me. It came with 3 sides dishes. One of them were just too salty which I barely touched. Abalone porridge: It was bland to me that needed some soy sauce but my friend did liked it except one of the side dishes being salty. I also ordered one of their drinks which it got me interested because it was never there past few years ago. There were 3 options but I ordered the pumpkin juice. At first it tasted like milk mostly but if you shake a little it taste much better. I liked the pumpkin juice! So next time I'm there I will try their mungbean drink. Overall on the time I stopped by I had excellent experience with them.

Yelp
Got an order here for only take out I love the salmon congee but I like with the kimchi Only 1 star less because I can't mix congee in different versions. I still keep ordering here especially in this cold weather!

Yelp
Such a hidden gem! Definitely hits the spot after a night of drinking or when you're feeling under the weather - the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. The menu has a variety of different congees (rice porridge). Anything from seafood, meats, or veggies. I believe they even have sweet options as well. For the price, $12 each, you really can't go wrong. The bowl is HUGE. Definitely enough to even share between two if you're not that hungry. Each bowl comes with three different side dishes, which pair well with the porridge. It's also accompanied by a cold radish soup, which really replenishes the mouth after the hot porridge. Definitely will be coming back to try everything on the menu!

Yelp
I have gotten a few to-go's and things were packaged nicely, order was completed in a timely manner, and food was good. I haven't had the chance to dine in, but it seems like a quiet place to have a meal.
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
Went there with a friend last night. There is a tiny (free) parking space around the corner from the restaurant. Should have taken a picture. Northern Blvd in Flushing can be notoriously hard to find street parking. Waitress was kind and attentive. This is a specialty dish restaurant. Wait staff speaks mainly Korean. Menu has pictures and yelp reviews definitely helps. Juk/congee/porridge is a soupy rice dish. Simple and if made at home would be inexpensive. It was nice to have a quiet night out with friends having a place to enjoy a simple dish. You have to try this place at least once, especially if you've never had it before. I would come back. FYI: If you see "crab" in the title, it's imitation crab.
google avatar

Emm C.

Yelp
This place makes old fashioned juk or rice porridge. I guess Chinese, Korean and All cultures have a version of soupy rice cooked until it's flowery. Anyways I came here often when I was a new mom visiting my grandma and wanted to bring some good edible food for her. Usually I saw Korean black car drivers grabbing a late breakfast here. It's a great place for a cold or sick day when soupy substantial helps.

Yelp
This restaurant serves exactly one type of food- congee aka porridge aka juk/jook. I ordered the oyster and mushroom porridge, and my dad ordered the abalone porridge. They both came with some sides you can put in your porridge to eat with it, and some soup. My porridge had tons of mushroom and oyster in it, and was very flavorful. My dad's porridge didn't have as much abalone in it, and my parents said they probably uses dried abalone (which isn't surprising- fresh abalone is expensive). Overall, we were pretty satisfied with our food. The porridge portions are pretty big and my parents and I don't eat a lot, so two bowls between the three of us was perfect. For those of you who like to vary up the textures of their food when eating, you might need to take a break once in a while- everything is soft and squishy, and unfortunately, because this restaurant is porridge only, there isn't anything else you can order to get other food textures. Can't really complain though- it only claims to be good at making juk! The restaurant has a clean and quiet vibe too. Great place to eat and take a break from the rush of the real world.

Yelp
Theres just something about Korean rice porridge that has a place in my heart. Everything is made fresh to order, this can take upto 15mins of wait time but the end result is well worth it. Dont be deceived by the portion and think its for sharing, I can eat the entire bowl myself in one sitting, it is just that good and its rice porridge so half if it is water. I highly recommend getting any of the ones with cheese. Sounds off to have cheese in your rice or porridge but Koreans know how to make it taste good and wanting you to come back for seconds and thirds. I dont think any of the rice porridge isnt good, just your preference and what you feel like having that day.

Yelp
Place is always my go to when under the weather. I think the price is a little steep but it's the best Korean authentic congee around.

Yelp
When I was in flushing area, it was cold day. I stopped at bon juk to order takeout and was greeted by lady as soon as I walked in although there were 2-3 tables inside already. Juk is my go-to whenever someone is sick in my house. My mom wasn't feeling well so i ordered my mom's favorite: seaweed fluvescens oyster porriage. Seaweed fluvescens oyster porridge: the seasoning and everything was great. Sometime the seaweed and the oyster have the porridge smell fishy but this place didn't. It came with 3 small side dishes in the sauce containers, but it complemented the porridge very well (I just wish there were more of the side dishes). Overall, I liked the place and the food but I thought there was small amount of side dishes and price was high.

Yelp
The perfect spot for your authentic Korean porridge soup. Their serving size is generous and their little kimchi side seems small but it's definitely enough to go with the meal. I usually like to turn it into two meals since I can never finish it in one sitting. The soup gives me such warmth making me feel right at home! I never dined there and only ordered take-out, but their packaging is very nice, safe, and clean. Service is great and the staff are very friendly. Usually you eat porridge when you're feeling sick, but I can eat this every week. The veggie one if my favorite. Koreans usually buy this for their family members or friends when they're sick which is a very thoughtful think to do. Give it a try! :) Would I recommend this spot for people who like porridge? Absolutely! 10/10!

Yelp
My sister and I had seen Bonjuk in Los Angeles when we were out on vacation a few months back enjoying Korean porridge. To our surprise, we found out that there was a Bonjuk three blocks away from my friend's house in Flushing. Being Chinese, my sister and I always enjoyed having juk (rice porridge) growing up. We noticed that the Korean rice porridge was thicker in consistency and came with condiments on the side. The side condiments were kimchee, some sort of marinated beef strips and another cup that had something chopped up in a similar spicy base like the kimchee. I like to eat the kimchee separate and mix the other too accompaniments in the rice porridge. We ordered the abalone rice porridge that also had minced up mushrooms to give it an earthy taste. The one order to go was well enough to feed both my sister and I. According to their menu the porridges are meant to give health benefits to help or prevent ailments. Besides savory porridges they also offer sweet porridges too. Next time I will need to try to eat in the restaurant and maybe try another flavor.
