Came in on a friday morning to grab a quick drink. The place was packed with students and people working on their laptops. There was a line when I got there, it moved at a fairly okay pace. I was in and out of here in 20 minutes (parking meter was set to 24 minutes). I read a sign that there is parking in the structure, but I didn’t know beforehand. I ordered an Earl Grey Matcha Latte and did half sweet. I’ve heard many people talk about their matcha and how the love it. I was so surprised because my drink really lacked flavor. I did order half sweet which the sweetness was okay, I just couldn’t really taste any of the matcha flavor. Overall the customer service was great, there is ample sitting if you want to work there. I think I would go back to try their other drinks, hopefully it was just off the day I went. I also saw they have some breakfast food items, so I would go back to try those too!

If you’re a real matcha enthusiast, you need to try Bonsai because they are not messing around. I love the variety of matcha and flavors that they offer. There’s some fun ones too like pandan and coconut. I also tried my first hojicha latte here and loved it. It’s like matcha’s more mellow little sister. Their cream top is good because it’s not overpowering or too sweet. It is rich and thick and custard-y. UGH. Insanely good. The atmosphere is bright and upbeat, a little busy if you’re trying to do work (for me personally). But a great place to stop with a friend or on your way from A to B.

Bonsai was recommended to me but I was a bit disappointed overall. To start, metered parking can be difficult to find due to the busy area. The place itself is nice but a bit too busy for me. There was no place to sit so I stood outside and ate. As for the food, I ordered the bacon breakfast sandwich and regular drip coffee. I should have gone with the breakfast burrito instead. Coffee was ok. Overall, it was not worth the price I paid. Also, when I asked a couple of questions about the menu, the person taking my order was not helpful. Not sure if I would return again.

Busy cafe, a student magnet. Hoodies and laptops everywhere. Fortunate to snag a table when we arrived, not everyone did. It was a weekday afternoon. I found it too busy. My partner liked the young vibe. Good matcha. WiFi - You ask the barista for a code. It appears on the tablet. Works for two hours, then you ask for another. Kinda clunky. FYI to use someone else’s code, you need to use their email too. Whoever logs in first with the code, use their email. Parking - there is free garage parking nearby. Some spots are marked for Bonsai, others for different establishments. Some are marked for Bonsai AND/OR other shops. Signs are color coded (I think red = Bonsai.) Not a ton of spots are reserved for the coffee shop—check on levels one and two (underground).

Reached there around 2pm on MLK day to a really long queue, but I didn’t mind. Got a cream top matcha and the Pork and Shrimp Dumplings to go — the matcha was one of the best I’ve drank (even beating some touristy outlets in Japan), would definitely return for it :) The dumplings were not bad, but I’m not sure if I would spend $10 USD on it.

Certainly not a first timer here, and actually we made a come back because I remember on my first experience I felt my drinks were decent but not that memorable, yet hearing everyone’s raving about their matcha. The cafe was extremely packed with people working and studying on their laptops, and the table setting was very close one to another. So did expect big crowd and bit loud noise. All weren’t surprising for sure given the location being close to unis. Great thing was they provided only 2-hour wifi access which at least might help faster guest turnaround. Getting their Matcha X Matcha, their version of Matcha Latte with Matcha Cream Top, I could tell why people love it. Bold and umami quality matcha flavor with pretty thick cream top as well. For weekend treat it’s just perfect, whereas for regular to-go, our second drink the Pandan Coconut Matcha was probably a better alternative as it featured the same great matcha yet being lighter without the cream top.

The best matcha I've ever had! I arrived around 3pm on a Sunday with a line out the door, which luckily moved fairly quickly. I ordered the matcha x matcha, which comes with a sea salt foam top. It was delectable and the perfect balance of being neither too sweet nor too earthy/bitter! All of the seating was taken up by college student laptops (a little surprising since it was very loud inside) and friends catching up so I took mine to go. Would love to try their bar next time.

Popular cafe known for matcha lattes. Came here with some friends on a Sunday afternoon and there was a line out there door. There is free garage parking. You order at the counter and then pick up your order. I ordered the Bonsai matcha latte which comes with a cream top as well as a red bean bun. The bun was alright; the drinks seem to be the star. There were some people studying or working but it was on the louder side. It’s dog-friendly. Credit cards accepted.

Great spot for the west side! There aren't many matcha places over here that are actually worth visiting IMO, but Bonsai definitely holds its own. I ordered two Matcha x Matcha -- the flavor is similar to Staggers, not exactly the same, but solid enough that I don't have to drive to K‑Town. Parking is in the garage just past their storefront, which is super convenient if you're grabbing and going. They also have plenty of seating, mostly filled with what I'm guessing are UCLA students.

My friends and I arrived right before 10pm on Dec 20th to celebrate! I live in the neighborhood and love the matcha during the day and I was so happy when the bar opened. We knew it was gonna be busy right before the holidays so the wait for a table was about 20 min. No problem there. The problem came when we ordered a couple drinks - one drink came out after 10 (as it was a pre mixed cocktail) while the others took over 20min to arrive to our table. That wouldn't be an issue except we saw the staff continuously taking shots of soju between taking out each drink or the bartenders and staff would stand there chitchatting with drinks in their hands they needed to serve. We witnessed our server finishing her conversation with our drinks in her hands for 5 minutes before she walked it over 6 ft to us. The drinks tasted watery and not worth almost $20. I had ordered the spicy drink a couple weeks before and ABSOLUTELY loved it, so tasty and spicy but this time was such a let down. There was no sense of urgency from anyone except the host who sat us. I won't be coming back and have recommend any other matcha because of the embarrassing experience of that night.

BONSAI COFFEE & BAR is a coffee shop during the day and a bar at night. I don't know how they convert the space, but it's difficult to imagine this space as a bar as it looks 100% like a coffee shop during our visit during the day. The OKINAWA LATTE is essentially a sweet latte and it was pretty delicious. The coffee part is strong enough -- the drink did not taste "milky". Same with the LATTE. Their VEGETARIAN EGG BITES made with mushrooms, spinach and cheese were delicious and came with a salad. There was no line to get in. There was a short line to order. There was a very short wait to get our food and drinks. There were plenty of indoor tables for the laptop warriors and brunchers alike. We were lucky enough to find metered street parking right outside. I'm not sure if that's normal or we just got lucky.

I tried their bonsai latte, which is a Matcha latte with a shot of espresso, and the combination of it was perfection. It has a really earthy and nutty flavor, with just a little bit of sweetness, just the way I like it. They have a lot of seating, but it is an extremely busy café. When we went over the long weekend, there was a line going out the door, and every single seat and table was taken by students studying. There is a parking lot in the back, however, very few spots are reserved for bonsai, which makes it challenging to find parking there. But there is also street parking nearby. The service was also super nice!

BAR REVIEW (Thursday - Saturday 5-11pm): AMBIENCE: The space is absolutely gorgeous - elegant and minimalistic with a dimly lit interior that sets the perfect nighttime vibe. I loved the mini bonsai trees scattered throughout as a beautiful homage to their Asian-inspired roots. There's plenty of seating options whether you want something intimate or a larger group setup. DRINKS: The Matcha-tini is the STAR OF THE SHOW! I don't usually order alcoholic drinks, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was incredible. It's made with soju, matcha, oat milk, vanilla, and matcha cream. The flavors paired so nicely together, and the cream top perfectly balances out the soju taste. Just a heads up though - it's definitely a lot stronger than you think, so pace yourself! FOOD: We ordered the Cheeseburger Eggroll and it was chef's kiss. It tasted exactly like a cheeseburger with that fresh pickle crunch, and the mac and cheese sauce blended perfectly for a savory late-night treat that hit the spot for In-N-Out cravings. PARKING: Free garage parking on Federal Ave - a huge plus in LA when it's so hard to find. Highly recommend this spot. Can't wait to come back and visit again to try more of their drinks!

First time trying Bonsai and it did not disappoint! We ordered the Okinawa Latte and Cream Top Matcha Latte. Their matcha has a more earthy taste than floral, with a nice, balanced level of sweetness. I also took a sip of the Okinawa Latte, and it was so good! I will be coming back again and hope to check out their bar another time. We came around brunch time so there was a short line we had to wait in. Despite the wait (about 20 mins) to order, the drinks came out pretty fast too. They also have plenty of seats for anyone looking to find a workspace at a cafe.

For the bar menu: the drinks are yummy! We got the Creamy Matcha-tini and Sweet Inferno. Creamy Matcha-tini 8/10 As the name says, it is creamy especially with the matcha foam. There is a bit of a soju burn at the end of the sip but it's nice. This is like if matcha latte has a slightly sassy flavor. Sweet Inferno 9/10 This is for tajin lovers especially who loves sour/spicy flavors. You can definitely taste the mango calpico and the lemon juice and jalapenos. Friendly staff but we had to wait for a bit to order our drinks. A comfy and intimate space , perfect for date night or hanging out with the girls/friends.

We were so disappointed after the long wait we had for our matchas. The matcha x matcha was alright. I think the cream itself is better than the latte, but still very mid. The latte is strong but somehow still lacks an overall matcha flavor (nutty or floral). The pandan coconut was not for us. Unfortunately, we took a few sips and threw the drink out. Ktown matcha is where it's at, especially for double matchas! The actual cafe is super cute and there's plenty of space for studying or sitting with friends.

It was good! They were quick with our drinks but there was no where to sit. It is not that aesthetic but it was good.

(This is a review for the bar) Came here with friends on Halloween night for dinner and drinks. We actually tried coming before but the bar isn't open daily and has some odd hours, please check those out before driving over here. We had seen this place on social media and we were really curious about the matcha cocktail so we were excited to come check it out. Our waitress was friendly. Matcha martini 4/5, I really loved this but my friends didn't like the mixture of matcha and alcohol. We all agreed we loved the matcha portion however, I imagine because of the density but that matcha and alcohol don't mix at all so you're either drinking straight liquor or straight matcha ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Strawberry Hi-chew cocktail 3/5 and 4/5, I liked this the least because it was very sugary/sweet but my friends liked this the most so this is a personal preference situation Yuzu cocktail 4/5, more of a sour citrus cocktail, I loved this but my friends didn't so again, this was more a personal preference situation Cheeseburger egg rolls 4/5, this felt like a secret menu item from in-n-out, legitimately. the sauce tastes 100% like the sauce from there. we loved this but the price for the amount you get knocks off a star for me Corn Cheese Pizza 3/5, this was just okay to me, definitely SUPER cheesy

Line was so long on a Friday at 11am. The inside is cute but so crowded. Definitely not a place to sit and talk or work, no seats and it's really loud. Front Staff was fine, but when I said thank you while being handed my drink the staff member said nothing back. Words are free and to pay ~$8 for a drink and then not even get a "have a nice day" or "you're welcome" just feels cheap. So definitely not a great customer experience, I know it's busy but this made the whole experience taste bitter. The cream top matcha overall looked pretty and tasted fine but nothing spectacular. There are plenty of matcha drinks around LA so based on customer experience and normal drink, I won't be back.

Cute spot! I like the variety of seating they have. Street parking is not bad, but you can also park in the garage! The place is like a cafe, but later in the day they turn into a bar. All of their drinks and cocktails are delicious. I gotta say the basic matcha isn't very strong, but it still tastes and looks good. I'd get it again. But I loved all the cocktails I tried. One complaint I had (about the bar) was that the speakers were really loud and that it was hard to converse. But maybe that's because I was at the table closest to the speakers.

This is my second time visiting so the tips I picked up are: 1 they have a parking lot next to it 2 make a reservation if you have a big party or show up on Thursday for a more mellow vibe Overall I think this is great date spot or catching up with friends. The decor and music makes it a more intimate vibe and the service here is friendly and fast. The drinks are great! The matcha is rich and creamy but be careful if you're sensitive because you will stay up late. The taro is my second favorite and the Seoul thyme was okay. The Cheeseburger Egg Rolls are great if you're trying to have some snacks between friends. Would love to visit again and try the other items on the menu!

Came for drinks for after hours and everything was great! We were seated at a community high top table. There were other parties coming along that were getting seated near us but a lot of them asked to sit in the back instead. The area we were in was quite loud because we were next to the speakers but my friend and I could still hear each other. The servers were really friendly and attentive. My friend and I each had the: Matcha-Tini - Thich creamy matcha top which I loved and couldn't really taste the alcohol but I definitely felt it lol. Viet Coffee-Tini - This drink makes total sense. It's really a shaken espresso and I really enjoyed it as well! There was an option to add sea salt on the side and we both shared one. I don't think it's necessary and still enjoyable without it. Looking around, there were a lot of young people (assuming they're students to a school nearby) but i did see a few of them bring their parents which was cool!

Adding on to rave about their cocktails and bar menu- bonsai out does themselves in so many ways. Their matcha-tini was literal perfection of a boozey match cocktail. A 10/10 truly!! Staff is so so kind. I would suggest coming either early in the evening or later as the line can be long but it tends to move quickly! Sooooo worth a try!

Bonsai lives up to its name. A relaxing cafe where you can come to zone in - do work, socialize - or zone out in a peaceful setting. The service is great. Friendly and willing to help staff. Most important are the products. We tried two coffee drinks and they were terrific. I'm going back to try the burrito.

Bonsai Coffee x Casetify Pop-Up Visit My friend and I stopped by Bonsai Coffee for the Casetify Pop-Up event, and we were lucky enough to be among the first 30 guests--so our matcha lattes were completely free! Such a fun surprise to kick off the visit. Taste - 10/10 Presentation - 10/10 Value - 10/10 Service - 10/10 The matcha latte was not only a generous size but also picture-perfect. The creamy foam topped with a delicate matcha powder drizzle made it totally Instagram-worthy. Flavor-wise, it hit all the right notes--smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet, with a rich matcha depth that really stood out. Honestly, it's better than most matcha lattes I've had elsewhere, and I can already see myself coming back for more. Service The staff were friendly, welcoming, and impressively fast. I placed my order and had my drink in hand within five minutes--a nice bonus when you're excited to dive in. Their energy added to the cheerful atmosphere of the pop-up. Parking Parking was the trickiest part of the visit. Since it was Friday, street sweeping started at 11 AM, and that definitely made things a little more complicated. I heard there's a nearby lot, but I couldn't find it and ended up parking in the neighborhood instead. Just a heads-up--double-check the signs so you don't get caught with a ticket. Overall Between the free latte, the beautiful presentation, the excellent flavor, and the friendly service, this visit was a 10/10 experience all around. Bonsai Coffee has definitely won me over, and I'll be back soon--even without the promo!

I've been seeing this place on TikTok for months and finally got the chance to see the hype. Just by first glance you can tell their matcha drinks are good quality, and after tasting them I can confirm it is actually good! I loved the mango in my matcha as well as the flavor of the matcha itself in both drinks. However one thing to make note of is there drinks are not very sweet so be sure to ask for more sweetener if you are someone who likes a sweeter rather than savory matcha latte. The interior is wide and spacious with plenty of space to study with friends. But it is fairly busy, even on the weekdays, so don't expect to find seating super easily. The employees are nice and attentive, and the food they offer is pretty good too!

I wanted to like this spot but their coffee is one of the worst coffees on the westside. Extremely sour, watery coffee with average flavor notes. The taro had an especially bad artificial gritty taste. Fun variety in flavors but the coffee itself is really bad and every time I get lured back I kick myself for not writing a review to remind myself of my past experience. Pros: * free huge parking lot despite it being in sawtelle * fun variety in flavors especially if you don't get the coffee * their baked goods are delicious! Especially their ube brownie caramel corn flake crunch * tons of seating inside the cafe. There used to be some nice wabi sabi lounge couch chairs but they took that away and put some concrete high tops to accommodate more seating and study settings. Cons: * such bad coffee. * staff is super nice except for the one female staff that drew the coffee art. She started off really friendly but was awkwardly pressuring people to follow her IG channel and when they didn't she turned cold. * everytime I've gone whether weekend or weekdays there's a super long line that wraps around the building.

I admit it. I am a sheep that has fallen to the matcha craze - as well as a bit of a cocktail enthusiast. So when I caught wind of a cafe moonlighting as a bar in the evening, I simply had to give it a try. I found myself sitting at the bar on a Thursday night around 6:30pm. I walked right in with no wait - though I've heard different stories about Friday or the weekend.  My server, Abby, was very friendly and hospitable. She made great recommendations and checked in on me regularly. Everyone was quite nice actually and made my solo dining adventure very pleasant. The Creamy Matcha-tini was delicious. The cream top was thick, decadent, and balanced out the stronger spiritful base. It had more of a kick to it than I was expecting for soju.  The food was better than I thought it would be too. The cheeseburger eggroll was good, but I admit, I like the Cheesecake Factory version a little bit better. I think it's the eggroll wrapper. It was more on the flaky pastry side, and I would've liked it a little crispier. I really liked, however, the Chinese Sausage Pizza. All the ingredients worked together surprisingly well. The scallions on top were especially delicious. My only regret was not trying more cocktails during my time there.

Best matcha in west LA. Im very picky with my matcha and they do it the authentic way here which is rare out here! Great place to get work done, but there is a 2 hour limit if you only make one purchase. Ambiance is nice. I love coming here to get some work done and treat myself to a matcha. The only thing I would change is their strawberry matcha lattes since it would taste a tad better if they added more strawberry puree at the bottom but maybe that's just a personal preference. All in all, this is a great place for matcha!

Ambiance: it's a trendy coffee shop located at a corner spot on Santa Monica blvd in west LA, bonsai decoration with elements of plastic tray plants, but it's so loud and crowd inside, not the right vibe for everyone, the music is so loud, which made it's very hard to communicate with the cashier, also people have to talk louder to each other, the group sit next to our table literally had to yell at each other, the restroom is so dirty and lack of maintenance, ran out of toilet paper, trash everywhere, and sticky on the ground Service: the staff here seemed unhappy and rude, rushed and impatient with orders and requests, it's understandable that they probably get annoyed by the loud noise and crowd constantly Drink: they have classic and specialty drinks on their menu, ordered two out of their signatures, honestly disappointing BONSAI LATTE - *** iced drink, matcha, espresso, milk, lightly sweetened with simple syrup, not overly sweet, but average matcha flavor, nothing special OKINAWA LATTE - *** hot drink, Okinawa black sugar, double espresso, milk, creamy part was okay, but the coffee tasted so bland and watery Price: overpriced for its mediocre quality, not quite worth the cost of $7 for each drink, let alone the wait time

Came by around noon on a Saturday, and there was a line that went out the door. Surprisingly, I ended up waiting no more than 15 min to order. I wasn't feeling matcha for once, so I opted for a cream top cold brew. It took another 15 min to get my drink. I'd give my drink a solid 7/10. Sadly would have to say it was not as good as Maru's signature cream top. The space is very aesthetic with all the bonsai trees and other plants. There are plenty of tables and seats, including one large communal table in the middle, which would be perfect for studying or getting work done- though it was pretty loud here on the weekend. I'll have to check this place out on a weekday!

Revisited bonsai and got the bonsai latte (espresso + matcha w oat) for $8.50 and the sausage breakfast biscuit ($6.50). Both are good! I also went to Bonsai bar and it was amazing! Definitely recommend swinging by for their night time offerings. Their matcha martini is the best item on the menu.

This cafe NEVER misses! The matcha is out of this world, and the tiramisu latte changed my life!!! Best coffee in town, yes it's a little overpriced, but YES it is worth it. There's a line out the door for a reason.

Another week, another Coffee run with Blacklist LA! Finally made it over to the west side of LA. An esthetically pleasing coffee shop on Santa Monica Blvd. Big selection of drinks and food. The matcha and cold brew was good and balanced in taste. Didn't get to try any of the special drinks. I do recommend getting the biscuit as a snack as it held me over until lunch. I would recommend coming early to this shop (Before 9:30 on the weekend) as it went from empty to a full house with a line out the door. I believe between the gym and being close to UCLA there are many people who will find their way here. I am more interested in their late afternoon bar with their matchatini BUT that will have to be a different day and different review. Parking: Street parking - can be hard depending on the time of day.

Came in 3:30pm on a Saturday thinking they are closing so gotta make it quick but there were plenty of people still sipping their coffee and studying so made me feel better. I do not live in the area but the reason that made me come all the way here is because I've seen way too many posts on Reddit how good this cafe is. I specifically came for hojicha but unfortunately it was unavailable so I got the cream top matcha latte which came with a matcha cream too! I think it's a really good concept that they become a bar at night! The inside is so cute too. I bought their coffee bean too and made an espresso at home. It's such a nice taste with less acidity with a nice aroma.

I'm not the biggest fan of 'syrups' and if you read any of my reviews, I am anti-cream top. This place has all of those things. BUT what I will say is that I LOVE their pandan coconut matcha. I do get it less sweet (1 pump of pandan and half a pump of coconut to ensure the pandan still stands out!) Ugh, it's GOOD. The perfect balance that peaks through and not overly sweet from the way I revised it to be to match my preference. However, I only come here if I want a 'flavored' matcha I want to come back in the evening (I also don't drink alcohol, but just wanna come for vibes) for the matcha martini situation. Well, moreso see my friends get it and possibly take a sip and call it a day. I also loved that they host a book club, post community-related events, etc for their patrons to check out while we wait for our drinks to be made. Parking - street. Great vibes and decor and Asian inspired drinks flavors. Great spot for a more relaxed weekend night out. They serve some small bites here as well. The drinks we flavorful and the Vietnamese coffee martini with the cream top is a must order. Flavorful and not too sweet. The ube had strong ube flavor and was refreshing. Service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend this spot if you're in the area. They have coffee in the mornings too

Bonsai Coffee was on my list of matcha places to try on the west side but I didn't know they turned into a bar at night and serve bomb Asian-inspired cocktails! The matcha-tini exceeded my expectations. The matcha flavors were strong and bold, while the matcha cream also conferred intense matcha flavors but in a more creamy context. I loved how each sip had a good mix of both. The moonlit taro had a decent taro flavor but I think the plum sake sweetness stole a little bit of the spotlight. It was poppin on a Friday night (especially with big parties), but we were still able to seated right away. I can see how it would be a great space to study/work during the day because it had tall ceilings with lots of windows. I wish that the bonsai were real, or at least had real plants? There is a parking lot available but be sure to look at the signs for Bonsai vs the gym. I would love to come back during the day and at night to try their other drinks!

Been to Bonsai during the day, but when I saw that they started doing cocktails at night, I knew I had to come. We ordered the matchatini, taro yuzu sour, and espresso martini. The matcha was the best out of the 3, it was delicious! The espresso martini was good too from viet coffee. The taro one was mid, it was way too sour for my liking. The drinks came out super fast and the servers were very attentive. Super cute coffee shop vibes, perfect for date night!

I went to Bonsai twice in the same day! First for their matcha latte which is SO good. I genuinely think its the best matcha in the area - and their new matcha cream top for a double matcha is fantastic. They are a cute coffee shop by day with laptops out and lots of UCLA students and a more moody bar in the evening for conversation and specialty Asian inspired drinks. Lots of Soju involved. I got their matcha tini and absolutely loved it. There generally is a little bit of a wait for a table but this Friday got sat pretty fast! The food was good! Its nothing super amazing but elevated bar bites but their cocktails are fantastic and I will absolutely be back. Unique and fun. Great ambiance

The good: I tried the matcha pandan iced latte with whole milk with lighter sweetness. I liked that the pandan flavor didn't overpower the matcha flavor. Two green flavors that go together yet I've never see it done before! It wasn't too bitter from the matcha either. The drink wasn't full of ice so you get a lot of bang for your buck with this drink. This place is my friend's favorite so I was glad I got to try it. The bad: I didn't get a chance to try their food! The interesting: I've had jasmine pandan tea in Vietnam but never matcha before.

Came here about 6pm and were seated fairly quickly. It's a bit noisy inside, but that could be due to the concrete walls/ceiling. Tommy (I think he's one of the owners) was super cool. The food was good, the drinks were really good. My only complaint/suggestion....you guys need to get some Asian soup spoons! It didn't feel right eating udon noodles with a standard metal soup spoon.

I only tried the bar, not the coffee. The cocktails were confusing, with flavors that didn't really make sense. We got a taro one and a lychee one, but both were really below average. The soju bowl was literally just two bottles of soju poured into a bowl with ice, which felt lazy. Service: Attentive and nice Food: Cocktails were mismatched and below average, soju bowl was disappointing Ambiance: Cute interior but very loud with poor acoustics, hard to have a conversation 2/10 - Good service can't save weak drinks and a noisy setting

Yum! Came here for the bar concept and wasn't disappointed. I got the matchatini and it was delicious. Inside they have plenty of tables but definitely can get pretty busy. If you have a big party I would recommend calling ahead to reserve! The service was amazing the servers constantly checked up on us. They also do cake cutting however they do have small fee for it so just keep it in mind

My favorite place to get matcha as of late! The matcha flavor is strong and authentic. I tried and enjoyed their hazelnut croissant. LOTS of seating inside, but there is a 2 hr WiFi limit (which I appreciate). They also do matcha making classes here and a book club! I can tell Bonsai wants to be--and is--a community spot for LA. NOTE: there has ALWAYS been a line when I've come, and then maybe 10 min to get your drink. So if you're in a pinch for time, this may not be the place for you.

Wonderful spot for matcha + wifi + getting work done. I happened to be in the area and found there were so many coffee shops! I decided on Bonsai because the yuzu matcha from reviews sounded interesting. I didn't see it on the menu this time, so I opted for MATCHA x MATCHA. It was matcha with the cream foam on top. The drink was good! The line wasn't too long, but it seemed like they were making several orders before my drink came out. I also didn't see many fresh pastries, so I decided not to get any food. The music is loud. I'd describe it as Indie pop. There is plenty of indoor seating. They have long windows that almost reach the ceiling, so the sun gets inside easily. There is one long communal high-top table in the center but lots of smaller tables around. Reminded me of a smaller version of About Time in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Parking was easy to find. I loved all the bonsai decor! The one on my table was fake though. Apple Pay/credit card accepted. I ordered the Bonsai Matcha. If you're a matcha lover you might stick with the non specialty matcha drinks. This matcha is more on the coffee side - the guy at the register did mention it too. As a coffee enthusiast I still liked it but I would stick with either just straight matcha or coffee. My friend ordered a regular vanilla latte and it was 10/10. Location has a huge space for anyone looking to work remotely or study with groups (college) Great spot & service.

The cutest concept of turning a coffee shop into a late night bar. I've heard so much hype about their matcha martinis from social media and it definitely lived up to the hype. There is limited seating but we were lucky to snag some seats with good servers. The matcha foam was so creamy and a bit salty but it balanced well with the strong earthy matcha taste. I would definitely come back and try the other flavors like ube and their seasonal lychee martini!

If the free and convenient parking doesn't convince you, Bonsai's sea salt cream top should. Every drink I've tried at this cafe has impressed me, and the vibes are perfect for studying and socializing. My usual is their matcha latte with the cream top, but the matcha latte on its own is also incredible. They also have a good rewards system that keeps me coming back!! I got a croissant to split with my friend this time and it wasn't bad but I would not necessarily recommend this place for the baked goods. The drinks however are a 1000/10

I've come for both the cafe and bar, and have had great service and drinks during both. I felt compelled to write this review for the matcha martini, which was out of this world delicious. The cocktail itself was good, but the star was the thick layer of matcha foam on top. I'm not sure what made it so addictive, but I could've had a glass full of just the foam and would've been happy. It's popular, so the line is long both during the day and at night, but nothing outrageous. There's a good amount of seating inside, although it's been highly utilized each time I've come.

This is actually one of my favorite places to get matcha and coffee, or just to sit and do work. I love the cream top matcha latte, it's so addicting!! The cold foam is different and unique from most places as it has sea salt flavoring, which makes it delicious.

Bonsai is really cool coffee shop located on Santa Monica Blvd. There is tons of seating and really good internet if you need to get work done. The service was great everyone was nice and generous and good overall vibe. I'm not a big coffee person but the tiramisu coffee was good a bit to coffee for me but still a good amount of sweetness. Nice foam good flavor. The chocolate croissant was favorite thing that I had there it was nice buttery and chocolatey enjoyed this a whole lot.
