LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"One of our favorite matcha latte spots has started moonlighting as a cocktail bar, too. Bonsai in Sawtelle is now open Thursday through Saturday nights, pouring cocktails like the Moonlit Taro with plum sake and taro syrup, and unsurprisingly, a matcha cream with soju. The food menu features fusion-y dishes like cheeseburger eggrolls served with special sauce, Chinese sausage pizza, and kimchi udon hot pot. We recently visited Bonsai Coffee & Bar and added it to the Bar Hit List." - cathy park

The Best Matcha Lattes in Los Angeles - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Despite its name, Bonsai Coffee Bar is very much a matcha spot. Just peek at the counter, where every drink handed out is green (like a dive bar on St. Patrick’s Day). The cozy space is filled with bonsai trees, warm wood tones, and lots of laptops—most people are here to study and work. The menu has an entire section dedicated to matcha, with options like pistachio matcha, pandan-coconut, mango, strawberry, and a sea salt cream latte. The matcha itself isn’t bitter, but it's strong enough to hold up against all the fun flavors." - cathy park

Google
The place was packed and felt a little stuffy inside. The music was upbeat and fast-paced, but it wasn’t quite cool or breezy enough for comfort. That said, both the coffee and the burrito were excellent — definitely worth trying.

Google
Stopped by Bonsai Coffee Bar — definitely a college vibe, packed with laptops, math problems, and lots of caffeine. I got the vanilla oat milk espresso latte (surprisingly good!). Someone in our group tried the sweet sea salt cream cold brew — strong, bold, and totally did the job. But then there was that one drink — dark, seaweed-like, and honestly… kind of undrinkable. We gave it a shot but had to leave it behind. Still, a fun little spot if you’re in the area — especially if you don’t mind feeling like the oldest person in the room.

Google
Their coffee is amazing. I love their seasonal black sugar syrup. I will definitely be coming back! Update: this place was soooo good I came back everyday over the course of like 4 days 😩😩😩😩

Google
Insanely good ceremonial matcha! I ordered the cream top one and it was soo good such a earthy flavor! Also very comfortable space if you want to work from cafe for couple hours!

Google
This is my new favorite matcha spot in the morning and happy hour place in the afternoon! The matcha lattes are incredible, and the matcha martinis are somehow even better. I highly recommend this charm.

Google
I had the pandan coconut matcha latte with cream top, asked for half sweetness and it was perfect! I have a feeling if you dont like things too sweet, ask for half sweet here. The cream top was tasty (I always want more but I'm greedy 😋) the pandan coconut added so much to the matcha flavor. Overall very nice, I'll return. Thanks!

Google
I've been here a couple of times and the drinks have always been great. It's a nice indoor space with lots of seating and tables, so you see many people working and studying and hanging out. I've had a normal cold brew, matcha latte, hojicha latte, and the cream top vietnamese coffee, all quality drinks. Really cool place in Santa Monica!

Google
The tiramisu latte was delicious. I liked the foam top. It was pretty busy on Sunday at lunch time, we waited 15 minutes in line. But if you have time the coffee is great!

Yelp
This is my second time visiting so the tips I picked up are: 1 they have a parking lot next to it 2 make a reservation if you have a big party or show up on Thursday for a more mellow vibe Overall I think this is great date spot or catching up with friends. The decor and music makes it a more intimate vibe and the service here is friendly and fast. The drinks are great! The matcha is rich and creamy but be careful if you're sensitive because you will stay up late. The taro is my second favorite and the Seoul thyme was okay. The Cheeseburger Egg Rolls are great if you're trying to have some snacks between friends. Would love to visit again and try the other items on the menu!

Yelp
Came for drinks for after hours and everything was great! We were seated at a community high top table. There were other parties coming along that were getting seated near us but a lot of them asked to sit in the back instead. The area we were in was quite loud because we were next to the speakers but my friend and I could still hear each other. The servers were really friendly and attentive. My friend and I each had the: Matcha-Tini - Thich creamy matcha top which I loved and couldn't really taste the alcohol but I definitely felt it lol. Viet Coffee-Tini - This drink makes total sense. It's really a shaken espresso and I really enjoyed it as well! There was an option to add sea salt on the side and we both shared one. I don't think it's necessary and still enjoyable without it. Looking around, there were a lot of young people (assuming they're students to a school nearby) but i did see a few of them bring their parents which was cool!

Yelp
Ambiance: it's a trendy coffee shop located at a corner spot on Santa Monica blvd in west LA, bonsai decoration with elements of plastic tray plants, but it's so loud and crowd inside, not the right vibe for everyone, the music is so loud, which made it's very hard to communicate with the cashier, also people have to talk louder to each other, the group sit next to our table literally had to yell at each other, the restroom is so dirty and lack of maintenance, ran out of toilet paper, trash everywhere, and sticky on the ground Service: the staff here seemed unhappy and rude, rushed and impatient with orders and requests, it's understandable that they probably get annoyed by the loud noise and crowd constantly Drink: they have classic and specialty drinks on their menu, ordered two out of their signatures, honestly disappointing BONSAI LATTE - *** iced drink, matcha, espresso, milk, lightly sweetened with simple syrup, not overly sweet, but average matcha flavor, nothing special OKINAWA LATTE - *** hot drink, Okinawa black sugar, double espresso, milk, creamy part was okay, but the coffee tasted so bland and watery Price: overpriced for its mediocre quality, not quite worth the cost of $7 for each drink, let alone the wait time

Yelp
Adding on to rave about their cocktails and bar menu- bonsai out does themselves in so many ways. Their matcha-tini was literal perfection of a boozey match cocktail. A 10/10 truly!! Staff is so so kind. I would suggest coming either early in the evening or later as the line can be long but it tends to move quickly! Sooooo worth a try!

Yelp
The good: I tried the matcha pandan iced latte with whole milk with lighter sweetness. I liked that the pandan flavor didn't overpower the matcha flavor. Two green flavors that go together yet I've never see it done before! It wasn't too bitter from the matcha either. The drink wasn't full of ice so you get a lot of bang for your buck with this drink. This place is my friend's favorite so I was glad I got to try it. The bad: I didn't get a chance to try their food! The interesting: I've had jasmine pandan tea in Vietnam but never matcha before.

Yelp
Bonsai Coffee x Casetify Pop-Up Visit My friend and I stopped by Bonsai Coffee for the Casetify Pop-Up event, and we were lucky enough to be among the first 30 guests--so our matcha lattes were completely free! Such a fun surprise to kick off the visit. Taste - 10/10 Presentation - 10/10 Value - 10/10 Service - 10/10 The matcha latte was not only a generous size but also picture-perfect. The creamy foam topped with a delicate matcha powder drizzle made it totally Instagram-worthy. Flavor-wise, it hit all the right notes--smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet, with a rich matcha depth that really stood out. Honestly, it's better than most matcha lattes I've had elsewhere, and I can already see myself coming back for more. Service The staff were friendly, welcoming, and impressively fast. I placed my order and had my drink in hand within five minutes--a nice bonus when you're excited to dive in. Their energy added to the cheerful atmosphere of the pop-up. Parking Parking was the trickiest part of the visit. Since it was Friday, street sweeping started at 11 AM, and that definitely made things a little more complicated. I heard there's a nearby lot, but I couldn't find it and ended up parking in the neighborhood instead. Just a heads-up--double-check the signs so you don't get caught with a ticket. Overall Between the free latte, the beautiful presentation, the excellent flavor, and the friendly service, this visit was a 10/10 experience all around. Bonsai Coffee has definitely won me over, and I'll be back soon--even without the promo!

Yelp
Matcha was decent. Better than I've had in other places but also not the best so I don't think it necessarily deserves the hype this place is getting.

Yelp
I only tried the bar, not the coffee. The cocktails were confusing, with flavors that didn't really make sense. We got a taro one and a lychee one, but both were really below average. The soju bowl was literally just two bottles of soju poured into a bowl with ice, which felt lazy. Service: Attentive and nice Food: Cocktails were mismatched and below average, soju bowl was disappointing Ambiance: Cute interior but very loud with poor acoustics, hard to have a conversation 2/10 - Good service can't save weak drinks and a noisy setting

Yelp
Overall - 8/10 - I have been driving past and seeing this place all over instagram. I finally got to try it for the Casetify pop-up/collab here. I went early in the morning and the interior was wide and spacious and ample seating in the coffee shop to sit and study. I assume that if you go later in the day it gets crowded due to having space to sit and study/work. There is alot of people living in the area and going to UCLA that will want to study/work here. If you are driving here there is street metered parking and watch out for signs when parking in the neighborhoods. There is also parking around the corner behind Bonsai and park in the spots that has Bonsai Coffee Bar posted on it. Drink - I got a cream top matcha from the Casetify pop-up as that was their collab drink. The matcha had a decent flavor, smooth, but could have a stronger matcha flavor. It was not a matcha where you would expect a strong matcha flavor. It is also not super sweet and the vanilla cold foam paired well with the smooth matcha. I would try some other drinks in the future to review the matcha flavor. The drinks were on the more expensive side to have a mid matcha flavor. The ambience and amount of tables make up for the decent drinks here. Overall experience - The ambiance of the a cafe was wonderful and cute with bonsais throughout the coffee shop. I wold come back to study in this spot becuase the vibes of the shop is cute and calming. I would come back to try some other drinks on the menu and some food.

Yelp
Yum! Came here for the bar concept and wasn't disappointed. I got the matchatini and it was delicious. Inside they have plenty of tables but definitely can get pretty busy. If you have a big party I would recommend calling ahead to reserve! The service was amazing the servers constantly checked up on us. They also do cake cutting however they do have small fee for it so just keep it in mind

Yelp
I've been seeing this place on TikTok for months and finally got the chance to see the hype. Just by first glance you can tell their matcha drinks are good quality, and after tasting them I can confirm it is actually good! I loved the mango in my matcha as well as the flavor of the matcha itself in both drinks. However one thing to make note of is there drinks are not very sweet so be sure to ask for more sweetener if you are someone who likes a sweeter rather than savory matcha latte. The interior is wide and spacious with plenty of space to study with friends. But it is fairly busy, even on the weekdays, so don't expect to find seating super easily. The employees are nice and attentive, and the food they offer is pretty good too!

Yelp
I admit it. I am a sheep that has fallen to the matcha craze - as well as a bit of a cocktail enthusiast. So when I caught wind of a cafe moonlighting as a bar in the evening, I simply had to give it a try. I found myself sitting at the bar on a Thursday night around 6:30pm. I walked right in with no wait - though I've heard different stories about Friday or the weekend.  My server, Abby, was very friendly and hospitable. She made great recommendations and checked in on me regularly. Everyone was quite nice actually and made my solo dining adventure very pleasant. The Creamy Matcha-tini was delicious. The cream top was thick, decadent, and balanced out the stronger spiritful base. It had more of a kick to it than I was expecting for soju.  The food was better than I thought it would be too. The cheeseburger eggroll was good, but I admit, I like the Cheesecake Factory version a little bit better. I think it's the eggroll wrapper. It was more on the flaky pastry side, and I would've liked it a little crispier. I really liked, however, the Chinese Sausage Pizza. All the ingredients worked together surprisingly well. The scallions on top were especially delicious. My only regret was not trying more cocktails during my time there.

Yelp
Revisited bonsai and got the bonsai latte (espresso + matcha w oat) for $8.50 and the sausage breakfast biscuit ($6.50). Both are good! I also went to Bonsai bar and it was amazing! Definitely recommend swinging by for their night time offerings. Their matcha martini is the best item on the menu.
google avatar

Ichika G.

Yelp
Came in 3:30pm on a Saturday thinking they are closing so gotta make it quick but there were plenty of people still sipping their coffee and studying so made me feel better. I do not live in the area but the reason that made me come all the way here is because I've seen way too many posts on Reddit how good this cafe is. I specifically came for hojicha but unfortunately it was unavailable so I got the cream top matcha latte which came with a matcha cream too! I think it's a really good concept that they become a bar at night! The inside is so cute too. I bought their coffee bean too and made an espresso at home. It's such a nice taste with less acidity with a nice aroma.

Yelp
I wanted to like this spot but their coffee is one of the worst coffees on the westside. Extremely sour, watery coffee with average flavor notes. The taro had an especially bad artificial gritty taste. Fun variety in flavors but the coffee itself is really bad and every time I get lured back I kick myself for not writing a review to remind myself of my past experience. Pros: * free huge parking lot despite it being in sawtelle * fun variety in flavors especially if you don't get the coffee * their baked goods are delicious! Especially their ube brownie caramel corn flake crunch * tons of seating inside the cafe. There used to be some nice wabi sabi lounge couch chairs but they took that away and put some concrete high tops to accommodate more seating and study settings. Cons: * such bad coffee. * staff is super nice except for the one female staff that drew the coffee art. She started off really friendly but was awkwardly pressuring people to follow her IG channel and when they didn't she turned cold. * everytime I've gone whether weekend or weekdays there's a super long line that wraps around the building.

Yelp
The cutest concept of turning a coffee shop into a late night bar. I've heard so much hype about their matcha martinis from social media and it definitely lived up to the hype. There is limited seating but we were lucky to snag some seats with good servers. The matcha foam was so creamy and a bit salty but it balanced well with the strong earthy matcha taste. I would definitely come back and try the other flavors like ube and their seasonal lychee martini!
google avatar

Yelp
I went to Bonsai twice in the same day! First for their matcha latte which is SO good. I genuinely think its the best matcha in the area - and their new matcha cream top for a double matcha is fantastic. They are a cute coffee shop by day with laptops out and lots of UCLA students and a more moody bar in the evening for conversation and specialty Asian inspired drinks. Lots of Soju involved. I got their matcha tini and absolutely loved it. There generally is a little bit of a wait for a table but this Friday got sat pretty fast! The food was good! Its nothing super amazing but elevated bar bites but their cocktails are fantastic and I will absolutely be back. Unique and fun. Great ambiance

Yelp
Wonderful spot for matcha + wifi + getting work done. I happened to be in the area and found there were so many coffee shops! I decided on Bonsai because the yuzu matcha from reviews sounded interesting. I didn't see it on the menu this time, so I opted for MATCHA x MATCHA. It was matcha with the cream foam on top. The drink was good! The line wasn't too long, but it seemed like they were making several orders before my drink came out. I also didn't see many fresh pastries, so I decided not to get any food. The music is loud. I'd describe it as Indie pop. There is plenty of indoor seating. They have long windows that almost reach the ceiling, so the sun gets inside easily. There is one long communal high-top table in the center but lots of smaller tables around. Reminded me of a smaller version of About Time in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Parking was easy to find. I loved all the bonsai decor! The one on my table was fake though. Apple Pay/credit card accepted. Free underground parking in the structure Free wifi (get access code from cashier) Free bathroom (gender-separated) Plenty of tables outlets

Yelp
Came by around noon on a Saturday, and there was a line that went out the door. Surprisingly, I ended up waiting no more than 15 min to order. I wasn't feeling matcha for once, so I opted for a cream top cold brew. It took another 15 min to get my drink. I'd give my drink a solid 7/10. Sadly would have to say it was not as good as Maru's signature cream top. The space is very aesthetic with all the bonsai trees and other plants. There are plenty of tables and seats, including one large communal table in the middle, which would be perfect for studying or getting work done- though it was pretty loud here on the weekend. I'll have to check this place out on a weekday!
google avatar

Kelsey P.

Yelp
I've come for both the cafe and bar, and have had great service and drinks during both. I felt compelled to write this review for the matcha martini, which was out of this world delicious. The cocktail itself was good, but the star was the thick layer of matcha foam on top. I'm not sure what made it so addictive, but I could've had a glass full of just the foam and would've been happy. It's popular, so the line is long both during the day and at night, but nothing outrageous. There's a good amount of seating inside, although it's been highly utilized each time I've come.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
This review is for their bar! Ambiance: 5/5 Lots of seating and it didn't take long for us to get a seat + very cute wooden tables and chairs. I loved the vibe the place gave off (very much friends catching up and just having fun!) Service: 3/5 A little slow but they did seem to be understaffed! The drinks and food came out fast but it was hard to get the check or ask for some things as they seemed overwhelmed. Food: 4/5 I have to say that the matcha and taro drinks were okay. The saving grace of the matcha cocktail was the sea salt cream top! However, the strawberry hi chew and sweet inferno cocktail were amazing!! Tasted like juice and so delicious. The dumplings and soup were also solid + good sharing size. Overall, would probably come back if I'm looking for a chill place to just catch up and gossip with friends!
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
I'm not the biggest fan of 'syrups' and if you read any of my reviews, I am anti-cream top. This place has all of those things. BUT what I will say is that I LOVE their pandan coconut matcha. I do get it less sweet (1 pump of pandan and half a pump of coconut to ensure the pandan still stands out!) Ugh, it's GOOD. The perfect balance that peaks through and not overly sweet from the way I revised it to be to match my preference. However, I only come here if I want a 'flavored' matcha I want to come back in the evening (I also don't drink alcohol, but just wanna come for vibes) for the matcha martini situation. Well, moreso see my friends get it and possibly take a sip and call it a day. I also loved that they host a book club, post community-related events, etc for their patrons to check out while we wait for our drinks to be made. Parking - street. Give some love to the street parking gods before you head out and best of luck. See yall again soon xo
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
The cream top matcha was good but pandan coconut flavor wasn't very strong. The pistachio had a slight hand sanitizer aftertaste? We also found the matcha was a bit watery. There was a lot of seating inside and parking garage nearby so maybe would come back to study
google avatar

Richie D.

Yelp
I'm not about muffin or cream tops ...on my latte but had to try their cream top matcha latte and I gotta say, it was tasty but just wished I tasted a stronger matcha. The cream top overpowered the drink, but it was fun while it lasted. Now I go back to my flat white or black coffee. I look forward to trying other coffee drinks here. Service and nice and friendly. Ambiance was questionable. Parking can be easy or difficult, depending on how you see it.
google avatar

Serina L.

Yelp
I think the space is gorgeous and the staff is really kind but I've gone twice already and ordered two different flavors of matcha-- both always came out little bitter, lacked flavor, and not sweet enough );
google avatar

Jazmine B.

Yelp
We came here for drinks and they did not disappoint ! I was dying to try the matcha martini. It has a matcha cream topping which was really good but can feel a little heavy if you drink a couple. But the flavor was really good not too sweet. The coffee martini was so good it had a nice foam on top not too heavy and the flavor resembled a Vietnamese coffee. Our server was nice, I drink a lot of water and she was great with keeping me hydrated. They have a simple but nice interior which doubles as a coffee shop by day !
google avatar

Keylee L.

Yelp
Amazing drinks, super cute vibes, very friendly service. They need a new sound system and an air conditioner. And, although I absolutely loved the matcha tini, I'm not sure I can justify spending $20 for another.
google avatar

Jessica I.

Yelp
My favorite place to get matcha as of late! The matcha flavor is strong and authentic. I tried and enjoyed their hazelnut croissant. LOTS of seating inside, but there is a 2 hr WiFi limit (which I appreciate). They also do matcha making classes here and a book club! I can tell Bonsai wants to be--and is--a community spot for LA. NOTE: there has ALWAYS been a line when I've come, and then maybe 10 min to get your drink. So if you're in a pinch for time, this may not be the place for you.
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
I ordered the Bonsai Matcha. If you're a matcha lover you might stick with the non specialty matcha drinks. This matcha is more on the coffee side - the guy at the register did mention it too. As a coffee enthusiast I still liked it but I would stick with either just straight matcha or coffee. My friend ordered a regular vanilla latte and it was 10/10. Location has a huge space for anyone looking to work remotely or study with groups (college) Great spot & service.
google avatar

Nancy B.

Yelp
I've only ever had iced lattes from here. It's one of the only coffee shops near by that does cold foam. But honestly I've had this place twice now and both times it's just not all that. It's okay but nothing special. I feel the coffee a bit bitter sometimes. Parking is tough but manageable
google avatar

Chelsea S.

Yelp
Amazing study / work cafe in Venice area. Since this coffee shop is close to UCLA, there were lots of students studying or hanging out. Ample amount of seating areas to do some works but there was no outlets. You have to ask employees for a wifi password. Baristas and cashiers were nice. I got an iced hojicha latte with oat milk ($8 - additional $1 for oat milk). It was nutty and hojicha flavor was pretty strong, so I enjoyed my drink. Good study coffee shop No outlets, Yes wifi Good amount of seatings Solid drinks - matcha and hojicha were good Street parking
google avatar

Alique K.

Yelp
If the free and convenient parking doesn't convince you, Bonsai's sea salt cream top should. Every drink I've tried at this cafe has impressed me, and the vibes are perfect for studying and socializing. My usual is their matcha latte with the cream top, but the matcha latte on its own is also incredible. They also have a good rewards system that keeps me coming back!! I got a croissant to split with my friend this time and it wasn't bad but I would not necessarily recommend this place for the baked goods. The drinks however are a 1000/10
google avatar

Shelby P.

Yelp
My friends and I came to try out their bar selections and everything was soooo good and we especially liked the Hi Chew drink. We came at a good time right after dinner, so it wasn't too busy but filled up quick. Service was attentive and kind and it's so cute inside. 10/10!! Perfect for a chill drink with more lax vibes.
google avatar

Kiki K.

Yelp
my friends and I came on a mission to try (almost) all their drinks. We got the Yuzu Martin, Strawberry Hi-Chew, Sweet Inferno, Moonlit Taro, Viet Coffee-tini, and Creamy Matcha-tini. If you want something sweeter that doesn't taste like alcohol, I recommend the Yuzu Martini, Strawberry Hi-Chew, and Sweet Inferno. If you want something a bit stronger, I recommend the Moonlit Taro, Coffee-tini, and Matcha-tini. Drinks were all delicious but on the weaker side over all since they use soju and sake.
google avatar

Yelp
Bonsai is really cool coffee shop located on Santa Monica Blvd. There is tons of seating and really good internet if you need to get work done. The service was great everyone was nice and generous and good overall vibe. I'm not a big coffee person but the tiramisu coffee was good a bit to coffee for me but still a good amount of sweetness. Nice foam good flavor. The chocolate croissant was favorite thing that I had there it was nice buttery and chocolatey enjoyed this a whole lot.
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
Great coffee and matcha spot! Beautiful design and spacious interior! Quite a few people are studying / working on their laptops there during the day. The atmosphere is lively, and not quiet. Drinks were great!! Their Hojicha latte with cream top was delicious! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
I love this place. I came here to get some coffee after hearing about it on social media and it did not disappoint. There was a line out the door when I arrived, but it moved pretty quickly. The interior was nice, and there was ample seating. Perfect for studying or hanging out. Bonsai latte (5/5): This was really good. The matcha flavor was strong and it wasn't too sweet, even though there was some sweetener added to the drink. The espresso wasn't too strong either, which I personally like. Hojicha cream top (5/5): This drink was good too. The hojicha was good, and the cream top wasn't too sweet. It was a creamy and earthy drink, highly recommend. I came another time too and got their breakfood burrito. It was so good! The sauce that it came with really knocked it over the top. Definitely recommend trying their food and drinks here.

Yelp
Came here around 9AM on a Tuesday and it was already pretty busy! I ordered the mango matcha latte, which had a beautiful gradient. When mixed together, it was a really fruity and smooth matcha flavor! I certainly like this a lot better than many other watered down or overly sweet matchas I've tried, though at the end I can say it got slightly bitter so if that is not for you, you may want to add a sweetener or something. I would definitely try their other drinks. I didn't have to wait much at all but many of the individual tables were taken. I liked that there was parking in the back, but you should come in early if you want to snag a spot. There was a good amount of seating inside, though the individual tables are a little close together if you have a lot of stuff, have a wheelchair, etc. From what I could tell there were some outlets here and there along the wall. My one complaint is that I was geared up for a long study day but the wifi is only available for 2 hours per purchase. I do think this is reasonable but since the prices are a little high (which is not unusual for specialty drinks in LA), I hopped on over to the library for the rest of my day. Not a biggie.

Yelp
Went here 3 times in a week because of this matcha cream top. Need to adventure out and try more but their matcha's w/ & w/out cream top are amazing. There is a parking structure with limited parking but have always been lucky. Loads of seating, you just need to enter in your phone number at the register and you get 2 hours of wifi.

Yelp
Really good matcha! The mango flavor was great and didn't take away from the matcha flavor but it was a nice addition. Will definitely have to stop by again when in the area. Staff was very quick with getting the drinks out and overall a great place to chat over some coffee/ matcha or get work done!

Yelp
I'm a matcha lover so when I saw that this place had a whole category on their menu for matcha, I knew I had to try it. When I came by, it was a weekend morning around 10am and the line was out the door. The line moved really slowly, not sure why, but once your order, it actually doesn't take long for your drink to come out. I asked for their recommendation between the pistachio matcha latte and the pandan coconut matcha latte. She recommended the pandan coconut so I went with that! I got it iced with almond milk (+$1). It was really nicely balanced and not too sweet at all (I sometimes get drinks half sweet but it's not necessary here). Pretty big space inside too, good for working or meeting up with someone.

Yelp
YESSS! I went to the bar and their Vietnamese Coffee-tini was one of the best Espresso Martinis I've ever had and the Creamy Matcha-tini was the best cocktail I've ever had. I've tried other matcha cocktails before but nothing as creamy and delectable as this. I got two and it did start to get heavy and sweet towards the end of the second one but wow. The best way to describe this martini is that it's the alcoholic version of Stagger Coffee's Double Matcha. I will definitely be back to try their other drinks.

Yelp
Stopped by Bonsai Coffee today and grabbed the strawberry matcha and a blueberry croissant--and wow, the flavors were so thoughtful and well-crafted. The blueberry croissant was absolutely amazing. The pastry itself was flaky and buttery, and the blueberry jam inside was next-level--sweet, bright, and packed with flavor. The strawberry matcha was also super refreshing! I really liked the touch of strawberry jam they added--it gave the drink a fun twist. I do wish the matcha flavor came through a bit stronger, but overall, the balance between the two was delicious. The shop had a great vibe, but it was pretty packed, so I didn't get to sit and enjoy the space as much as I'd hoped. That said, I'll definitely be back--especially to try their matchatini next time!

Yelp
Bonsai doubles as a coffee shop by day and a bar by night. It's become a trendy spot lately, so I was curious to check it out. My friends and I visited on a Friday night and waited about 30 minutes to get in. We ordered a variety of drinks, including the Yuzu Martini, Strawberry Hi-Chew, Moonlit Taro, Viet Coffee-Tini, and Creamy Matcha-Tini. The Moonlit Taro and Creamy Matcha-Tini were my favorites. Unfortunately, they were out of their Asian-fusion pizzas. We tried the spicy chicken dumplings, spicy pork & shrimp dumplings, ribeye beef kimchi udon pot, and miso ribeye beef hot pot. The food was okay, nothing particularly memorable, but the cocktails stole the show. The atmosphere is vibey, with dim lighting and good music. It's perfect for a chill night out!

Yelp
10/10 drinks!! I ordered their cream top matcha latte which is a matcha latte with a sea salt cream top and it was delicious! I came on a Wednesday around noon and it was busy!! there was a line by the door and almost all the tables were filled with people working or catching up with friends. my friend got their hojicha latte with cream top and she loved it as well. there's a parking lot behind the cafe which is convenient because parking can be difficult to find.

Yelp
My friend and I like to visit new coffee spots around the Westwood and San Fernando Valley area to study and Bonsai Coffee Bar is my favorite so far. The atmosphere, the workers, and the quality drinks make the overall environment enjoyable to be in. This place was packed on a Sunday morning and there is a lot of space and seating available, so I'm glad my friend and I were able to snag a table. The server who took our order, Antonella, was one of the kindest servers I've encountered at a coffee shop. I ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee and Antonella recommended the cream top on the Vietnamese iced coffee. My friend was having trouble ordering between the different matcha lattes so Antonella helped her out and recommended the strawberry matcha cream top. Now for the drinks: my Vietnamese iced coffee tasted super strong which is just what I needed. There's almost like a hint of cocoa in the drink. I am glad I went with the cream top on top of the drink because it really enhanced the flavor of the drink by adding a bit of creamy saltiness to it. My friend's strawberry matcha was also very top quality; the matcha flavor was strong and the strawberry foam on top added just the right amount of sweetness to it. I don't hand out 5 stars to coffee shops easily, but I give Bonsai Coffee Bar 5 stars and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area! I'll definitely be back to try some of their other drinks!

Yelp
I came here last night for a friend's birthday to try out the bar selection. Since we had a reservation, we were seated right away, but I did notice there were a lot of people waiting when we left so I would recommend making a reservation. The place itself is really cute and staff were really friendly. There were six of us in our group and even though they were busy, the service was quick. We tried a handful of their drinks, including the Matcha-tini, the Vietnamese coffee-tini, and the strawberry hi-chew. The matcha-tini and coffee-tini were both flavorful and strong, whereas the hi-chew was more on the sweeter side. A couple of our friends don't drink so it was nice that they also had non-alcoholic options. I can't speak for the daytime ambiance but I do wish the music was a little quieter for the bar hours. Overall, I enjoyed our time here and look forward to coming back to try more of their drinks .

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised at this coffee/matcha cafe! I got the strawberry cream top matcha because I like creamy drinks and felt like having something fruity. The drink didn't disappoint when it came to the creaminess. The strawberry cream flavor was good and the matcha was milky. Initially, sipping the matcha and mixing it with the cream, I wasn't the biggest fan. It was too milky and the matcha flavor was subtle and bitter. However, the more I drank and mixed, the better the drink got, so it turned out to be pretty good. I would try the other drinks next time. There was a long line when I went, so I recommend ordering ahead through DoorDash. I was able to get my drink in 10-15 min after ordering on the app. However, I wasn't able to connect to the WiFi because a loyalty number was needed.

Yelp
I've loved Bonsai since they opened. Huge fan of their Strawberry Matcha, Cream Top Matcha, and Vietnamese Coffee. They also offer a lovely and inviting space to do work. When they opened the bar, I had to try! My favorites were the Matcha-tini and the Moonlit Taro. Best part of the matcha-tini was the salted matcha cream on top. The Taro was surprisingly light and sweet which I really enjoyed. Would def recommend for a girls night or as a date spot!
