I've been waiting to try the Market at Bonton Farms since I moved to the area, but couldn't catch them during opening hours (so I frequent the coffee shop next door, which I definitely suggest). I finally caught them open, and had to try the chicken people keep raving about. But first....APPETIZERS! I opted for the fried green tomatoes since the ones at Ida Clair and Whiskey Cake were disappointing. These? SMOKED THE COMPETITION! The fried green tomatoes were perfectly battered and seasoned, and paired with the pimento cheese they provide--beauty in a bite! Who else does a happy dance when they get that perfect bite? Just me? Oh okay, anyway let's continue! So I ordered the chicken meal and it comes with two sides, so I ordered the Hoppin John and Creamed Spinach since it's still New Year's week, iykyk! The creamed spinach was delicious, I wished it was a little hotter as far as temp, but still rich nonetheless. The Hoppin John has this comforting smokiness to it that just made me want to curl up in a warm blanket with it and a good book, with the Swamp Tea they make (order that, too, trust me on this). The chicken was fried well, I'm not a big salt girlie, but it needed a dash of that OR some Louisiana hot sauce to set it off.
The service here was EXCELLENT. From the lady at the front counter that gave auntie vibes, to everyone seeming so cozy and elated, to the waiters, and the waitress who slid me a piece of cornbread to go with my meal! The restaurant is currently only open Thursday to Saturday so make sure you carve out some time to taste what they have to offer and make your way over next door to get some fresh produce from the farm!
