"Boon Boona sources their coffee beans exclusively from Africa and roasts them in-house—the result is a rich, bold cup that you should gulp regularly. While their espresso is terrific as is, they’ll often have a berbere-kicked mocha available. It’s earthy, a little spicy, and the perfect thing to sip all morning as you walk around Capitol Hill." - Aimee Rizzo

"This exclusively African coffee roaster and cafe serves espresso drinks and excellent pour overs, but also sells beans by the pound. The coffee is sourced from a few farmers across several African nations with a focus on supporting women-owned growers. Customers can grab a cup to-go or join a monthly subscription service online." - Alana Al-Hatlani

This is such an amazing little coffee shop. It's very cozy and the drinks taste really good. The staff behind the counter are always so nice and easy to talk to. The drinks taste really good for the price you're paying. I got a latte with some of their lavender syrup and it was exceptionally good, didn't taste artificial at all. I do recommend coming here.

Please, please, please, for the love of any god... You must try their rose cardamom latte. It's truly and amazingly delicious. Too fancy? Worry not, the africano is bold and smooth for easy drinking as is or with a bit of cream and/or sugar. I've always loved the atmosphere and commitment to the community this place has had, and I love seeing them prosper. They definitely deserve the love and support!

I came to buy some fresh roasted beans to my espresso machine. Service was ok. Place is big and spacious. It felt kinda empty when it comes to design. One thing I can say that the bag of coffee (12 oz) is way overpriced (20$)There is a lot of local coffee roasters around that have great coffee for much less… 12-15$. Parking was good. I went in the afternoon and there were few spots in front of the cafe. I think it is a good place for a bigger events. I didn’t get any food this time.

Every time I've been there, the service people behind the counter have always been nice. They have a wide selection of different flavors of coffee to choose from. Since I'm basic, I usually get basic coffee/latte. Hahaha. But if you would like to experience different spice and their house-made syrups, they have a variety to choose from. I did try their cardamom spice latte once. It was not my jam, but again, I'm basic. The fragrance was nice, but I think I would prefer those flavors and aromas to be in a tea or mulled wine. That said, the basic latte has always been delicious. The coffee here is a little brighter than my preference, but it's still good. They have pastry offerings in a small case in the counters, but I can't say how they taste. They look very nice. The croissants and similar style pastries looked nice and flaky with good-looking layers, so they're not mass-produced goods. Give them a try. Don't be basic like me and give their spiced coffees a go.

Google
It's a wonderful coffee shop. Delicious coffee and they are a specialty coffee shop that roasts their own coffee which is hard to find outside of Seattle. The Renton location is large and has a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Google
Not a bad place for coffee; we went there for a private event; surprised that beer & wine was on menu as it was a Muslim event

Google
The interior of this coffee shop is so spacious and nice! There are plenty of seats at the windows. They also roast their own coffee here, which is really cool! The coffee tasted really smooth. I got a lavender latte and it was one of the best that I've had! There's a list of seasonal drinks at the counter which I think all sounded good. My partner and I got a chocolate croissant and an almond pinwheel and they were both very good. The almond pinwheel was filling and the chocolate croissant was nice and flaky. This is a really great coffee shop!

Google
Great people, lovely coffee, delicious pastry, Umami Kushi is served here and it’s GOOD! The atmosphere is incredible and was busy for hours around lunchtime in a Thursday. Good people watching and larger cafe lounge. Cool production area. Clean bathrooms and in a great location with lots around.

Yelp
tldr: will come back, would recommend for coffee or getting work done .. 1st time here, ordered the brown sugar cinnamon latte with oat milk coffee: not too milky, not too sweet, 100% delicious service: the guy at the counter was really friendly and helpful vibe: chill vibe with plenty of seating and wifi, in a really cute area of shops bonus: they also serve "for here" orders in ceramic cups so loving the green! street parking can be tricky, might have to loop around a bit and walk

Yelp
Great coffee so recommending a visit. Go enjoy the coffee This place serving great coffee

Yelp
Hello Boon Boona, this is my favorite coffee place! I've only been here once but I absolutely loved everything about Boon Boona Coffee. From the calm atmosphere, the beautiful decor, generous and super kind staff, and most importantly, the coffee which I've better had made better walking into Boon Boona Coffee on an early morning. I got an latte with almond anise syrup and I haven't been able to stop dreaming about it since. I have never been to a better Coffee shop since that day. The latte made my day a whole lot brighter as well. I saw that you guys do poetry at night so I may stop by sometime if you guys still do that. I hope to come back soon. Until then, I'll keep dreaming about that latte. :,)

Yelp
Still my go to coffee spot in Renton! Great housemade syrups if you're into unique flavored coffee. The service is terrific and there is plenty of seating in the shop now.

Yelp
Boon Boona is such a treat! I remember coming to this spot pre Covid when they just opened as I worked in the neighborhood and it was always such a nice place to spend time & get some lunch or coffee. I came here recently on a Sunday evening (& really at any time of day its a lively scene) to meet with a friend & had one of the coffees on their holiday menu (Chocolate Hazelnut Latte) & it was delicious and everything that the name said it was :) Basically a hot chocolate with caffeine! The place was busy with customers visiting with friends or working. It's so exciting that they also recently opened up a few locations in Cap Hill, UVillage, as well as the Microsoft campus out in Redmond! A great mission, wonderful staff and owners, & place that consistently delivers delicious coffee :)

Erin W.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday afternoon. The place was spacious and quite popular. Wifi was available. The staff was friendly. I enjoyed my tea latte. The restrooms were shared among the retailers in the building. We found parking in a parking lot nearby, and it was free since it was on a Sunday.

Jillian N.

Yelp
Boon Boona is one of those local chains that is worth the hype. They have excellent coffee - the flavors are deep, and they're crafted drinks are always well done. I don't believe their pastries are in house (I've had Lowrider cookies there, which are also a great choice), but if they're not, they've chosen a good outsource company. The everything croissant was delicious.

Ramiro M.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and pastries. They have a cool pour over workshop Saturdays. Two 16 oz drinks with milk alternatives and a cookie were $20.

Yelp
Been to Boona Boona Coffee a few times now and I hate that I live so far away from it. Boona Boona Boona Coffee is one of my top 5 favorite coffee shops/holds a top 5 favorite coffee drink in Washington. Main reason why they have remained in my top 5 is the taste of their coffee. Each sip has a soft bitter taste, resembling dark chocolate. My usual go to is the Berbere Mocha, so it has a bit of a nice kick. I usually have it with oat milk. NOTES: When I visited on a weekday morning, it wasn't busy and there was seating openly available. By the time I left, it was packed and seats were taken outside. Whether it be a weekday or a weekend, there is always one parking spot I can easily find near the shop. It is all parallel parking. If you don't like parallel parking, there is a parking lot close by, but if you stay too long you might get towed as the parking lot is mainly for another restaurant. Overall, will definitely come back again! WIsh there was another location near where I live!

Wennie H.

Yelp
Love the environment and atmosphere, quality of food and drinks is good. Service is friendly. I like the option to get a day old pastry for a cheaper price and when it's heated up, it's all the same to me.

Ben H.

Yelp
Awesome coffee, primarily African blends, Boon Boona coffee was great. I ordered a drip, which was flavourful and delicious. Coffee is roasted in house which is a win. Cool place in downtown Renton.

Kelly S.

Yelp
A nice place to hang out and drink some good coffee! I had their cortado and the espresso was good without it being bitter. Love supporting woman-owned growers and sustainable cooperatives so I will be back when in the area.

Kulwinder J.

Yelp
I recently visited Boon Boona Cafe and had a fantastic experience. The Great Orange Latte was a standout with its unique and flavorful twist that was both refreshing and satisfying. The staff were incredibly clean, friendly, and helpful, creating a welcoming environment. While the coffee wasn't as hot as I would have liked, the taste made up for it. One of the cafe's biggest assets is its ample space, both inside and outside. It's an excellent spot for sitting and studying, offering plenty of room to spread out and work comfortably. Whether you prefer to enjoy your coffee inside with a cozy atmosphere or outside in a more open setting, Boon Boona Cafe provides the perfect environment for productivity and relaxation. Overall, it's a fantastic place to enjoy great coffee, excellent service, and a conducive space for work or leisure.

Yelp
Loved the cool & open ambiance, friendly & amazing service. I thought latte was ok, nothing out of the world but enjoyed hanging out at the cafe with a friend.

Yelp
I was returning from SeaTac and Waze led me through this part of Renton and I needed a coffee. I remember Boon Boona from a prior Yelp Elite Event a couple of years ago. This time I had a Orange Clove Latte with Oat Milk. I think it is one of their seasonal special flavors. It was served quickly and had a cool heart design on the foam. Very tasty. Great job Boon Boona! Keep it up.

Reba H.

Yelp
I am so happy they honored my Yelp check in discount. It was clear that the manager on site had no idea the discount exsisted. lol However, they honored it and served up delicious coffee. Right in the heart of downtown Renton Boon Boona is a great coffee house to stop and refuel.

Amber Z.

Yelp
This space in downtown is very cool and the coffee is delicious! They have a ton of baked food including gluten free options. Great device to top it off. Highly recommended checking out this locally-owned spot.

Joe H.

Yelp
Enjoyed it. I drink my coffee black without anything and this place has excellent drip. The taste is rich, bitter, and full of flavor. I haven't had any other drinks. But if you go on the weekends this place has a line out the door. Probably the same thing during weekday mornings. I usually like to treat myself to their coffee when I'm in the area. Try it.

Cassandra A.

Yelp
Ube Latter (special), Africano, breakfast sandwich The food was very good. My partner said they enjoyed the africano. The ube latte did not taste like Ube and was a bit milky. They have limited outdoor sitting (only two tops) but good amount indoors. All seats were filled though on a Saturday afternoon.

Mel Y.

Yelp
i stopped by for a quick drink and their service was friendly and fast. the flavor of the drinks felt watered down a bit, i suggest adding a shot to their larger coffees! they had lots of seatings available as well.

Carly C.

Yelp
Service 5 stars Coffee 4.5 Prices 3 They are good- they run smooth, spot is clean, fun options on menu, kind staff and people in the shop. Unfortunately- they are just a bit pricey. (And I saw fruit flies in the pastry container holder.

Abby C.

Yelp
I came with my family for the first time and the area was really nice. The service was great and the coffee tasted great. The area looks like a great space to hangout and do some work.

Hannah T.

Yelp
I love that their coffee is so unique and strong flavored. They had a great café to hang out and relax in, especially if you are meeting up with friends. Because of their Ethiopian coffee, they make even your most basic drinks taste different. Even though they were super busy on the Sunday morning we came in, the employees were so kind and speedy.

Ian A.

Yelp
Great stop for coffee and pastries or breakfast sandwiches on the main drag in Renton as we drove north from the airport on the east side. I like the berbere mocha, a slightly spicy but deliciously flavorful hot beverage. Each of the pastries I've had from a nearby local bakery have been delicious and different from other places. Plenty of room to enjoy your coffee inside and free WiFi.

Yelp
Came here on Veteran's Day so they closed earlier than usual... Boon Boona has a very open feeling ambiance - large and airy for something that is located in downtown Renton and their staff is nice. The appeal of Boon Boona ends there for me. Unfortunately, my Chai latte was not that hot nor was it that tasty. I also got my child a hot chocolate and she did not enjoy it either. Prices are average boutique coffee shop prices, but is an average drink, it is a bit overpriced. I would go here for a catch up session, but everything else is just unfortunately very average. Nothing really stood out for me to want to go back.

Kim Y.

Yelp
Surprisingly busy on a weekday morning. Where do these customers come from? Across the auction house and pho joint is this coffee place. Decorated with ethnic designs and items, you'll find a counter waiting for your order as you enter. The noise level is moderate - semi high, industrial ceiling reminds me of a coffee making factory. The space is open and there's plenty of chairs and tables. The veggie sandwich ($8) came piping hot. Super expensive IMO. Nothing too extraordinary. If I was a coffee drinker, I guess this place would be good. I see lots of customers with drinks in hand. They must be doing something right. They were friendly and relatively fast. Not sure if I'd be back.

James H.

Yelp
Love this place. Super nice staff, people are friendly, its got great coffee and that usual good buzz you like to feel from a cafe. Good place to post up and read and write. The coffee is always spot on. My only complaints are the pastry game is super weak. I mean come on, cookies are like the size of an Oreo and tooo expensive for what you get, selection is very limited and everything is pretty dry and uneventful. Also tables are always dirty when I try and post up. Good with bad.

Yun C.

Yelp
Great coffee $ tea Bit rustic but good ambiance with good soft Christmas music (even with one Korean oldies)

Semra Q.

Yelp
Loved their strawberry matcha! Such a nice and spacious place to study/work or just catch up with friends. Definitely worth the trip especially with the super friendly staff!

Selina R.

Yelp
Decided to go to check out downtown Renton there's lots of side street parking with two hour parking limit. Came on a Sunday morning and while there is ample amount of seats it was 80% full when we arrived! We were going to sit inside to read but the music was a little too loud and we could hear people's conversations on top of that. There are at least four tables for seating outside which we opted for. Service 3/5 The first girl that looked at us when we came in didn't acknowledge us or said hi, but the cashier that took our order was nicer. Coffee 4.5/5 Cardamom latte with oat milk (hot) was really good! I love the cardamom flavoring and it was a good call on a rainy day in Washington. 3/5 Lavender latte (iced) the boyfriend thought the lavender was way too subtle. Flavor didn't come out until later on but it wasn't a wow factor. Overall I appreciate what they stand for as their coffee comes from Africa and they're sustainable! Service could be better. They also have whole beans of coffee they sell and a huge area on the left side of the cafe where they bag their coffee which ranged from $17-$23 would come here again to buy some beans when I'm in the area.

Yelp
This is the other BBC (ha) that you want in your life, especially if it's in your community and even more-so if it's just down the block worth a walk. Birthed in a prominent big corner space that's full of natural light & a spacious ceiling in downtown Renton, a wonderful energy & vibe was created. It has a really neat & cool 'brown hue' to the whole thing which is rather quite fitting to the coffee bean or perhaps part homage to it. Mostly clean, spacious & simple, the main prominent features are the delightful artwork mural behind the coffee bar and the coffee equipment/racket adjacent to it. The mural is particularly cool because I think it has a lot of inspiration/roots from African coffee lands/landscapes with a unique artistic style. Seating variety is nice while the bathroom is a stark contrast of its cafe. My go-to coffee beverage is a short decaf oat milk chicory latte. Their decaf is a naturally wonderful & smooth/deep roasted flavor and the current brand of oat, Minor Figures, is a nice touch. Chicory is one of their house [vegan] syrups that I like the best; it has this super subtle sweetness that eludes this near-perfect balance, IMO. Often I bring my personal mug which puts a smile on their faces; sometimes adding my own spices to mix in does the same (ginger, cinnamon, etc; they do have cinnamon on their own which I think is mostly a good industry standard). On lesser occasions, I'd get a regular decaf or seasonal fling if I fancy it. Most of the couple of yummy vegan treats are standard Macrina bakery and newcomer Simply Amazing Treats LLC which are pretty yummy. I've been going here at least weekly since I moved in last Spring. Staff is overall chill & friendly. They're usually complimenting my personal mug which is a great habit people should try to help their small change for the climate and less business waste. Just a wonderful neighborhood go-to spot with just as wonderful background story & origin.

Martin L.

Yelp
Cool cafe. Large space w cool African inspired decor. Asked staff and all coffee is African. So they decided to lean into it. Great place to start the morning. Also good for a date; studying; or just to hang out. Staff is friendly and coffee comes out quick. Great neighborhood spot.

Cindy C.

Yelp
They do not know how to make an iced drink! You will be paying for overpriced watered down coffee! I got an iced americano. The ice was already melted when they handed me the drink. It's like they used hot water and threw ice in there. The taste was so light I made a separate order of a shot of espresso. It's +$4 If you want an extra shot by the way! Second drink was the iced ube latte. It tasted like straight up milk. Overall drinks are mid. Not worth the price, there are plenty of other good coffee shops in the area. The cafe is cute and very opened. A good place to hang out with friends

Victoria H.

Yelp
Amazing matcha and the vegan lentil pastry I got was amazing :) cashier was also very friendly c:

Marsha L. C.

Yelp
Got the Honey Lavender Oat Milk Latte & it didn't disappoint! The ambiance is also great with great options to stay & read or meet up to chat with a friend! A+!!!!

Crystal Z.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Renton, it's spacious, with a rustic (lovely) styled interior. If you're meeting a friend up for conversation or need to get some work done, this is the place to be! Staff are incredibly friendly. Drinks are decent, but nothing special. The expresso definitely works though-- I ordered it once and did not sleep for 2 days straight. I get their Matcha drinks now. I like it here, it's almost like a safe space away from home. I recommend you trying it out if you haven't already done so! I can easily spend an afternoon here, as many others do.

Brandon O.

Yelp
I am not cool enough for this place. I've given Boon Boona several tries when my go to spot down the street is closed and I have noticed a few consistencies. The design and ambience are great. I love the commitment to local art and artists and the overall look is very cool. I can't think of a better looking coffee shop. However, If you don't look the way the staff wants you to, they treat you differently and act like they barely have time to ring you up. This is odd considering they seem to be all for inclusion. I do not understand what happens when they make iced drinks. I have no interest in damaging a locally owned business, but if you are the owner or manager and reading this, please take a look at whatever process is being used for iced drinks. The drink is so watered down it's as if warm water is being used and this is not a one off, this is consistent. The one I got today was so uncomfortably luke-warm, I tossed it after a couple sips. The place seems to have overall good reviews, so maybe it's just me, but I really don't feel like I'm imagining all this. If I am so be it, but if anything I'm saying here is consistent with other's reviews I hope whoever is in charge will consider our words.

Eve S.

Yelp
I came here for the Rose Cardamom Latte and was not disappointed! My latte wasn't too sweet and the foam ratio was excellent. Surprisingly large inside with plenty of room to space out tables. After Covid started, I really learned to appreciate open spaces. The industrial style interior is still cozy, the baristas were friendly, and I didn't have to wait long for my order. Great coffee place if you want a break from the chain stores plus you'd be supporting local!

Chelsea C.

Yelp
Delicious coffee with interesting flavors. Roasted in house. Ethiopian coffee is the best! Beautiful artwork as well.

Sukhman T.

Yelp
I ordered an latte and easily found a seat. There were not many food options. The interior and energy of the cafe location was amazing. I was able to find street parking near the cafe. Reasons for Rating: +1 Excellent location and parking +0.5 Food taste really good +1 Customer service +1 Interior/atmosphere +0.5 Would return/recommend others

Yelp
This is hands down our favorite coffee shop in all of Renton! The coffee quality is exceptional, the design & ambience of the coffee shop is impeccable, and the staff/management have always been exceedingly friendly and welcoming. As a bonus, Boon Boona does so much vital work building up a sense of community and inclusion as a Black-owned business. It has been a pleasure watching them start out small a few years ago and quickly grow into the thriving business they are today. I've even bought their bagged coffee as gifts for out-of-town family members multiple times, and they all rave about how good it is every single time. This will be our go-to Renton coffee shop for many years to come!

Jason B.

Yelp
This was an amazing Ethiopian coffee shop in the Seattle metropolitan area. I absolutely loved it. I've been to Ethiopia and the quality of the beans at this place matches the origin it represents. Fun environment great merch and incredible coffee. The nitro is naturally sweet and does not need anything added to it. Highly recommend to stop by and get a Coffee and some merch. Boon Boona means Coffee, Coffee in two Ethiopian dialects.

Larry A.

Yelp
Delicious latte with homemade vanilla. Good biscotti. Careful preparation and friendly service. Plan to come back!

Sara V.

Yelp
Solid, great coffee in the perfect downtown Renton spot. I often get Boon Boona on the way to driving down to Portland or if I pick someone up at the airport. They have your standard coffee and then sometimes have seasonal specials with a little flair if you're daring. Employees are nice and there's enough seats to hang out with your drink. It's right next to a cute plant store you can check out, too.

Jeannie A.

Yelp
Coffee is ok. The service is ok. The ambiance is amazing and makes it a worthwhile visit for catching up with friends

Daizha E.

Yelp
Such a cute spot in downtown Renton with an amazing mission behind their business! Boon Boona is an East African coffee roastery that focuses on sustainability, supporting women-growers, and providing a space for BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and more. The space is a lot bigger than most spaces in DT Renton and it makes it the perfect building for their roasters, merchandise, and seating (round tables, bar stool tables, bar stools along the window and outdoor seating) without it feeling too crowded. There are also flyers about resources and things happening in the community which I really love and appreciate to see. Today I came in with my dog (woohoo for being pup-friendly!) I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk and their house-made cinnamon brown sugar syrup paired with their vegan raspberry oat scone. I will be honest and say that their matcha was not my favorite. I am not knocking a star down because this depends on preference but it is on the milky and subtle side. I could barely taste the syrup or matcha but this makes it good for beginner-matcha-drinkers. Every other time I have gone here, prior to me Yelping, I have always gotten coffee and I think that is the way to go here-- especially with their story and purpose of being an African Roastery. And it's so delicious! Even though my matcha wasn't the best in my opinion, their service and just the ambiance is the best! All the baristas were so friendly and welcoming and I enjoyed seeing a full crowd in their seating area. It wasn't too quiet or too loud either. It was just right-- I saw people meeting up for coffee dates, elders reading the newspaper, people doing remote work, and people in zoom meetings. This spot is definitely a feel-good place and it was such a great start to our day! Thank you Boon Boona Coffee!

Austin P.

Yelp
I stopped in here to have coffee and catch up on the book that I'm reading. I ended up ordering the rose cardamom latte (because cardamom is amazing) and the raspberry oat scone. The latte was delightful, though the cardamom flavor was a little more subtle than I would've preferred. The scone was moist and it crumbled like a scone, but something about the taste and texture seemed off. I think it was the oats. They had some tables inside, but I opted for one outside because it was sunny out. Solid people watching! But if you're inside, you can watch them roasting beans in-house.

Joshua C.

Yelp
Best coffeee ever! Sense of urgency 10/10. Great workers. Ambience 10/10. Thank u boon boona team for always slaying

Marie R.

Yelp
I have always been jealous of Seattle residents coz they have a lot of cool coffee shops. Until we found this place in the middle of downtown Renton. I used to get their rose cardamom latte all the time before they started introducing seasonal drinks. Lately, I've been getting their toasted coconut white chocolate mocha and it's my go to now every time I go to BB. Their syrups are house made and are so good but they don't make the latte too sweet, which is perfect. Their owner is super nice and friendly. All of their servers are friendly too! Note: they sell Sweet Alchemy ice cream at the Renton location so try on e of their flavors! If they have the sweet cream or banana Nutella crunch, do yourself a favor and get it!
