Honestly pretty disappointed in this and more so insulted, on behalf of our neighborhood, by Lon for moving Cho’77. Service was not terrible and the food was edible, hence the 2 stars. But as I walked out last night, I realized I’ll never come back.
As far as “street tacos” go, this is just not it. There are a ton of great taco joints in Denver and BorraCho doesn’t cut it. Their menu was lacking originality and way over priced. At almost $5 a taco, you’re really starting to take the “street” out of the whole experience. I tried almost every taco on the menu, and nothing stood out. It also took nearly 30 minutes to get our tacos out, which is ludicrous considering 2/3 the restaurant was empty. Compare these things to staples like Machete, TT&W or even, dare I say, Margs... Borracho was bottom tier.
But, I think what truly soured my experience is that after multiple years of a loyal customers base in the Baker neighborhood, Lon decided to up and move Cho’77 and replace it with this half-a**ed concept. Cho was an integral part of our restaurant scene and instead of recognizing that, he moved it to LoDo in, what one can only assume, an effort to maximize profit.
Call me bitter, however, I can only take solace in the fact that this won’t last long. Compared to Cho, which was always full, every time I walk past it’s empty. Last night is a great example - an oddly warm winter evening, every restaurant booked, yet Borracho was dead. So good luck, I guess, to Lon moving forward.
