I live 3 blocks away and love their food to the point that it's my guilty pleasure. However, I'm not at all surprised they're closing, and a brief analysis could help the owner be more successful in the future.
Boru Boru was unnecessarily difficult with customers in a lot of ways that hurt their volume, which any business needs. Here are a few:
1. Delivery usually unavailable. In Manhattan, that's suicide for a restaurant.
2. When delivery is available, it costs $5 plus tip. That's about $8, not worth it for customers like myself who live a few blocks away but are too tired to personally go to the restaurant. Apparently, we just ordered from someplace else.
3. Phone orders never accepted. I never before heard of such a thing, and if online ordering was down, as it often was, you had to personally go to the restaurant and wait while food was prepared. Are you kidding?
4. Literally half the menu wasn't available for takeout.
A successful business tries to make purchasing easy and accessible in as many ways as possible. Boru Boru did the opposite.
