Went with another couple for dinner. It wasn't crowded. It was a Friday night. 6pm. When you enter the restaurant it looks like it's empty. It takes you through a bar to be seated in the dining room which was very busy. The entrance is not very clean or appealing. The service was very good. Food was good but overpriced for what you got. The vegetables were cold with each of our dinners. The fish was cooked very well. Good desserts.

Google
Average experience. Loud music. Food - personally loved the seafood salad, fresh and crunchy. Yet main course - salmon screws were not tasty at all. My teen ordered steak and it came as one huge piece, she didn’t touch it. Overwhelming portions of food. It’s best to share or not order the appetisers.

Google
For what it's worth, this has been one of my favorite restaurants. The food portions used to be amazing. I've eaten inside and had carryout. I believe they have minimized, and the prices have gone up. So if you've ordered food before and expect a lot of food, it's not there anymore. Swordfish Vesuvio and shrimp a scallops.

Google
This is definitely our go-to place for good food and service. Menu has a lot to choose from and the wine list is lengthy. Gerald was our server and he was helpful and efficient. On his recommendation we had the King Crab Leg and the Lamb Chops. Take a look at their excellent deserts and the coolers for fresh fish and meat to take home too!

I’m coming back definitely! Excellent restaurant, is worthy 100% and my server as the manager were wonderful!

Google
- 42oz bone-in Ribeyes ($63) , tender but didn't season at all (no taste) - spaghetti with shrimps $35 (claim to be home made), taste like dry noodle with no presentation, those we got it from Costco taste a lot better - fried cod with garlic spread, $30, we like the tartar sauce for the cod but the smash potatoes taste very sour and spicy with a heavy undescribable smell. I had a bite and didn't have the courage on a 2nd . - clam chowder $8.99, my spouse used to like it there but this one tonight wasn't good at all like the last time we been there

Although I spent $1000 dollars on memorial day, holy hell is it worth it! The seafood is fresh, the ambiance amazing, and the service good. The salad is refreshing with a nice lime dressing, and their grilled calamari and octopus have a nice smoky flavor. The lobster pasta is a bit hefty at $195 but it packs at least 10 lbs of food, and they do not skimp on the seafood! All portions are well worth their price tags, and you should definitely visit!

Yelp
We were a large party of 14 and they were able to accommodate us and our needs. The restaurant location is huge and roomy, with a dedicated parking lot. The fish market inside the restaurant had fresh seafood, steak, and dessert available. Wait staff efficient and courteous. We love seafood and food was just exceptional!! Cooked and seasoned to perfection in my opinion. Delicious food, which were pricey but well worth it as portions a large. Ideal for sharing. If you love fresh seafood, this is the place to go!!

Steve C.

Yelp
This by far has been one of my best experiences! In Chicago for a few days, Enzo at the Weston recommended going here. The honey jalapeño salmon was outstanding it was so delicious we went back again! The rigatoni and lobster was amazing! Two days later we went back. Had the 12 oz filet was very good and cooked to perfection. The medley of shrimp, squid, octopus and garlic potatoes was crazy good! The octopus was the best, incredibly tender and delicious. The tiramisu was wonderful extremely light and the cappuccino was spot on! The ambiance is old school and I loved it. Booths and white table cloths. The open market was clean, appetizing. The waiters and support staff was like a symphony working so well together to execute such great service. Love the place will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Jeff N.

Yelp
Food is so fresh and delicious. Large portions Professional servers Comfortable dining room The lemon tiramisu was Incredible. Who knew?

Yelp
Just 2 weeks after eating in here for the first time, I returned again with a party of 4 for another Friday evening dinner. I remembered to specifically ask for the main dining room this time, and we had ourselves a comfortable, delicious, and delightful seafood dinner there. I'll go with 4.49 stars for this outing, rounded down to 4. Our party had the following and as expected, the seafood offerings were tip-top fresh, delicious, and generously sized. - 1/2 lb shrimp cocktail, $18.99 - charbroiled walleye (mine), $38.99 - charbroiled halibut (wife), $39.99 - charbroiled Gulf red snapper (BIL's wife), $39.99 - grilled octopus (BIL), $33.99 - 7 layer carrot cake, $19.99 Each and every one of us enjoyed our entrees with the usual delicious side plate of roasted veggies and potatoes, and wild rice. I also again enjoyed a Three Floyds' Zombie Dust pale ale. The carrot cake was pretty good, albeit a tad over-sweet with a white chocolate frosting. Our server Ricky was friendly and attentive. I docked 1/2 Yelp star only because despite generous serving sizes, an outing here is still a tad on the pricey side.

Yelp
I moved to this area recently from Morro Bay, California which has lots of seafood restaurants, fishing fleet, oyster farms, etc. I live for seafood. This restaurant was excellent. One of the best I have ever been to. Great variety and presentation. Portions were large. Everything was fresh. I had fresh clams, soft shell crabs with a side portion of potatoes/rice & green beans. Other family members had the grouper, the red snapper, Greek salad and French Fries with Feta. The restaurant was very pretty, the service was excellent and for a surprise some nice Greek music. I will certainly be coming back here as well as buying some great looking seafood in their market.

Sandeep C.

Yelp
Trying to make sense of the low rating as I loved this place! I had a lot of questions going in as I couldn't tell the vibe through just the photos. So the front end of the restaurant is like a seafood market for those wishing to pick something up to cook for dinner. However, the bar and dining room opens up to quite a large classic restaurant with elevated decor. The food was phenomenal. Started with some amazing lobster bisque with big chunks of lobster. For my entree I got the seabass Cajun char grilled with vegetables. The fish was fresh and flaky. The vegetables were delicious and all seasoned quite well. Frankly I even enjoyed the garlic bread service with olive oil. Also, had a delicious chocolate cake for dessert. Service was attentive and friendly. I think maybe some of the specialty dishes like the lobster roll may not be great hence the reviews. The place has a Greek flavor to it and it's best to stick to fish. Overall a great spot for a nice seafood dinner!

Bing N.

Yelp
Good food, very nice ambience and a great service hassle free. Will definitely be back here for simple days and celebrating other events!

Mary S.

Yelp
Had a lovely Friday evening dinner here on the patio, last night. Huge variety of menu items. I love how you can purchase fresh fish to take home and delicious pies too. The staff was great, very attentive and present. The filet Mignon was huge!!! The garlic bread in the beginning was so yummy! We even took home a full fresh key lime pie! Thanks for a great time!

Karen C.

Yelp
The ambiance is dark with the use of some coloured lights. Both sure what they are going for here, but it makes you wonder what are they trying to hide? The food was alright. The food was a little greasy and the crab cakes are ok. I wasn't too impressed with the place.

Bryan Y.

Yelp
Had dinner at Boston Fish Market with some friends and it was a great experience. We sat outside during sunset, which made for a beautiful setting. My friend, who's a regular, did the ordering, and we ended up with the Zuppa di Pesce--it was heavenly! The portion was huge, and we also got the fish and chips, which I always love getting at places, and this was pretty delicious. We definitely ordered with our eyes because it was a lot of food for the three of us. Our server was really nice too!

Paul O.

Yelp
Came here for my mother's bday and we had a great time and enjoyed great food. As other's have mentioned the food portion is very large so put that into consideration. I had ordered the 42oz Delmonico steak. It was cooked to medium rare, just how I asked them to cook it. We ordered some pasta and it was big enough to fig two people, the lobster roll was delicious too! All the food we ordered was good, no one complained so that's a good sign. This location is right down the road from Bob Chinn's restaurant so there's two great seafood houses near each other. The waiter we had was great! I didn't see any extra charges on the bill as others have mentioned. The only thing is saw was they mentioned there would be a 3% charge if we pay by credit card. Since it is a fish market you can also check into the fresh seafood area up front.

Yelp
I tried Boston Fish Market for the first time today - awesome food and good service. The place is huge - there's an indoor meat/fish market in the restaurant, and there's a huge bar. There's plenty of indoor seating and a huge outdoor patio for warmer weather with live instrumental music. Your server first will start you off with a complimentary basket of garlic bread (delicious). I tried the Mussels as an appetizer, they were very good and the portion was huge. For my entree, I tried the Cajun Catfish dinner - it comes with rice and vegetables, the Cajun catfish included 3 big pieces. Boston Fish Market is very expensive, but a very good place for a nice meal. I'd recommend for a nice seafood dinner in the area..

Kellie J.

Yelp
Derive was great!! Food was great, came out hot and delicious!! Would recommend for a nice dining experience!!

Henry H.

Yelp
Best seafood restaurant in the surrounding area. I would say the world but you probably will not believe me. Price is worth it. Portions are large so if 2 people order a different dish, you have lunch or dinner tomorrow . Service is excellent. In Wheeling we are blessed with 2 excellent seafood restaurants Big restaurants but you might want to make reservations on weekends or if you have a big party. Has 2 locations one in Des Plaines and one in Wheeling.

John S.

Yelp
I had just posted a review several weeks ago about how huge the portions were and how fair the drink prices are. Well we dined here again tonight. I went to order the same bourbon (Stagg) that they poured 2oz for me last time at $20 and tried to charge me $72 tonight for an oz & a 1/2 pour. That is bananas. In addition both our potions of fish and sides were about 30% less. I loved this place because it was a great value. Idk if my last review made them think they could Jack up their price and short their servings but I felt taken advantage of. The reason I'm giving 3 instead of two stars is because we sat in an area where they had a great band playing which was an added bonus to our meal.

Bob C.

Yelp
Howdy All Had the pleasure of visiting this fine restaurant for the first time and it didn't disappoint. I had the baked salmon on special and washed it down with a few adult beverages. Then had a portion of baklava Service was exceptional Atmosphere was amazing Food was even better Treat yourself if you're up in the Wheeling area and stop in :)

Jan M.

Yelp
A couple more photos from our takeout last night. So good on a cold winter night. We shared Salmon Kabobs and have leftovers for the weekend.

Linda C.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for dinner and the service and the food was definitely not a disappointment. It is a bit dark inside so it might be good to skim over the menu beforehand. The food came out quickly and they do ask if you want the appetizers to come out with the food or all together. Everything tasted magnificent and delicious. The portion size is huge to the point you could probably do family style and try different dishes. Definitely coming back for those fried calamari and the Cajun shrimp.

Radina D.

Yelp
Our top seafood spot! The fish is always incredibly fresh, the portions are generous, and the outdoor dining area, with its gorgeous landscaping, makes every visit memorable. The service is consistently excellent, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. It's more than a restaurant--it's a family favorite! The seafood gumbo is a must every time

John E.

Yelp
The food is assume, and no it is not just fish. New Year's Eve we had two of the best crab cakes I have ever had, with a sauce that was outstanding!. Then we had Halibut Parmesan horseradish crust. We both had large pieces and took even more home! With all of their desserts made in house and one looking better than the other.... We could not force in anything else, someday, we will go just for dessert. Louie has created an exceptional restaurant, with great service . Too bad that being cooler, we had to stay inside. As the patio it very, very gorgeous! You will see me there eating in or taking wonderful food home!

Al H.

Yelp
Excellent seafood! We've eaten at both BFM locations and although this place is a real dine in restaurant, the food seems better in Des Plaines. The six of us had a nice table and very good waitress. Drinks were strong and the second basket of garlic bread delicious (first basket was cold and rock hard). The small Greek salad fed the six of us just fine given the amount of food which was coming. The halibut was excellent as usual as were the fried shrimp. Huge shrimp with very little breading cooked perfectly. The halibut was a bit rare in the thickest area but a piece that large is hard to handle. The fries were good but the plate of limp green beans, potatoes and cold rice was lame....fortunately we had no room for it. Friends enjoyed their lobster roll and salmon very much. As usual too much food! We did encounter three flying gnats which is unnecessary in this day and age, especially since it's been mentioned in reviews for months. Definitely will return but probably for lunch in Des Plaines.

WK W.

Yelp
A lot of choices for all to taste and try! Service wait staff were very attentive, the restaurant ambience could be intimate or open. We were celebrating with family and friends and everyone enjoyed the food, the drinks, the service and the location! Surf and Turf dishes seem to offer a little of everything! If you want seafood, this place got plenty of it! If you want a steak, it is here too! Veggie dishes were available in salad and seafood or simple salads. See all the dishes that we had! Wow! Good place, good food, good service, good drinks! A tad on the expensive side though, so if that bothers you, be aware. Check out all the dishes in this reviews photos.

Christy T.

Yelp
My husband has been buying scallops from here, but we had never tried the restaurant yet. We tried the restaurant for our anniversary this past Saturday. Although it's very pricey, it's definitely worth the money. Both of our meals were phenomenal and amazing portions. The gentlemen who waited on us was also very attentive. Definitely one of our new favorite places.

S S.

Yelp
The outdoor seating is pretty nice. The portions are huge, but nothing actually tastes good unfortunately. The vegetables are overcooked and soggy. You can taste the flour/cornstarch in the bisque and the octopus was chewy and overcooked. It's the McDonald's of seafood.

Anthony M.

Yelp
When you first walk in to your right they have a display of fresh seafood you can buy and take home. They always have a wait but you can go to the bar a grab a quick drink or even play a little a slots. Service was great got are drinks and food in a good amount of time considering how busy it was. We ordered clam chowder & the cioppino. Clam chowder had a good taste with a good amount of clams. Cioppino it has Alaskan king crab legs, New Zealand mussels, shrimp, clams great flavor. (Usually order this every time) the one thing I can say this dish has almost doubled in price with less seafood but over all a solid restaurant.

Jiang A.

Yelp
Have been here a few times and disappointed with their service literally every time. The reception and waitress are mostly rude. They have great selection of seafood so I still tried to go. Last time I went, I got some oysters from the market. The staff knocked the oysters with each other when picking out for me. I thought maybe she was trying to make sure to get good ones. However couple of them turned out really bad/smelly. She could be looking for bad ones for me. Now I'm thinking if oysters are fresh, she would not need to do that. We got filet mignon also to grill at home. It was very good but we could get it anywhere else for better price. Very disappointing and will not come back again.

Maria Z.

Yelp
Food is phenomenal appetizers, champagne, seafood. All waiters have great service and recommendations. Ambiance is nice either in patio or indoors.

Julia Q.

Yelp
Large portions of food. The scallops were so flavorful and not chewy! Just perfect. Ambience is intimate. Service was quick and friendly. Gave great insight to the menu and suggestions. Also tried the lobster bisque had good size chunks of lobster. Baked clams were also great.

Linda E.

Yelp
The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. I have food allergies, and they take extra care to make sure my food was safe for me. We had the steamed clams and the octopus and both were delicious! Definitely want to go back again.

Michelle W.

Yelp
We have heard good things about it, and finally came to try. It did not disappoint! If you love fish, or want to try different types of fish, this is the place to come! First of all, the fish is fresh, and along with thoughtful preparation, you will get to experience different fish. We had Walleye fillet and Orata whole fish. Both are white fish. Walleye is tender and flaky. The fillet was nicely prepared and cleaned of bone. Orata has a slightly firmer texture. It was prepared whole, and our waiter was expertly deboning it at table side. At the front of the restaurant, there is an actual fish market that you can purchase seafoods. For non-pescatarian, there are meat available on the menu as well. Definitely will come back to either purchase seafoods or dine in.

Alex P.

Yelp
Very tasty seafood at Boston Fish Market. Menu: As long as you like seafood, there is an option here for you! They have a market in the front of the restaurant as well. Drinks were fairly priced with great wine options! Staff: The staff did a nice job. They provided great recommendations and were helpful with those tough choices! Prices: the prices are reflective of the portion size. A dish can easily be shared by two people. The fettuccine shrimp pasta was $30. Many of the other fish dinners come in two good sized pieces! I just save room for dessert next time! Seating: they were easily able to accommodate a group of 8 people with only an hours notice. They have a beautiful outdoor patio!

Jane R.

Yelp
Love this location. We got their zuppa di pesce, fish & chips, and their Greek salad for 5 people. We had leftovers! The portions were huge and the food was fresh! The service was great! We had an older gentleman and he was so sweet. He made sure we were able to celebrate a birthday. He sang happy birthday to the birthday person and got us plates and utensils without us even asking for them. He was really attentive and provided us great food suggestions. The restaurant was spacious and very homey. Will be back for the food and service.

Chris C.

Yelp
A lively, casual restaurant with excellent selection. Fresh, quality seafood, large portions, and skilled service make this a great choice. The charbroiled seafood (we had salmon, shrimp, and whitefish) were nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. The appetizer special of stuffed mushrooms with shrimp were garlicky and delicious. Cocktails were strong but delicious and well-balanced. Dessert was apple pie with ice cream, and the buttery crust filled to the brim with sweet apples was perfect. We will be back again!

Janene T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service. Bring your appetite. We were celebrating a birthday. The patio is nice

Mark C.

Yelp
The Boston Fish market is an excellent fish restaurant. The dishes are very well-made, not too cheap, and huge. If you have any room for dessert after a Boston, Fish Market meal, try the multi-layer carrot cake.

Jojo S.

Yelp
Never disappoints--consistently delivers very good food with fast service ... A reliable choice for quality dining ...

Jodi K.

Yelp
I thought I'd have a better experience here since my last visit. I LOVE the original location, but missed the mark my last visit and missed it again this time as well. Just BAD. How can you put these old knarly fries on the bottom of the calamari ... at least give me some fresh ones ... just a NO. Not okay, we left after the appetizer, wasn't gonna chance again with the fish. I'll ONLY go back to the OG.

Karen E.

Yelp
Craving soft shell crab and this was delicious and satisfying. We sat outside and loved the good weather and great service. Recommend going inside to the market as well. We bought razor clams but I wanted to buy the fresh bread and olives too.

Lone S.

Yelp
The food in DesPlaines is better. The fish I ordered was now adorned with a sauce. Good fish does not need sauces. It also lacked some of the moisture you expect from really fresh fish. Service was adequate. Not outstanding. Adequate. The outside dining was very nice. Looked inside but did not eat there. I will go to Des Plaines next time to get the meal I came to expect from all the years we dined there. It will be a last chance.

Charlotte T.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday night with reservations at 7:15 for six people. We were seated immediately in a large table in the back room. I highly recommend sitting in this room, the ambience is very nice. Our server was pretty good and attentive! Food wise - This is the BEST FISH in the northwest suburbs. The six of us split three fish dishes, which were all fantastic. We got potatoes and veggies on the side - soo tasty!! Very large portions prices are a little on the high side - so be ready to spend some money. I would come back here again!

Arlen F.

Yelp
The food was extremely overpriced. Server was a complete amateur and should not be working at a place with these kind of prices. Check the prices and reviews before going! A total rip off. Food was ok but will not be going back!

Brian F.

Yelp
Reading the recent reviews, I'm surprised that no one is starting with the most important piece of information... this place is built on it being a fish market, turned restaurant! They deal in fresh, bulk seafood and their menu is focused on serving fresh, BULK seafood! While you can come here for a date, this place is best suited for parties of 4 or more... think family-style, big-portions, with the intention of tasting everything on the table. You're going to spend a lot per dish, but divided out, your bill can be very reasonable per person. Again, bring a big group! The last time here (early Feb 2023) was for a birthday lunch and it was spectacular. I highly recommend the seasonal seafood bouillabaisse, the clam chowder, and the cioppino... not only was the seafood fresh, but the sauces, broth, and seasoning were complex and savory. Their fresh baked bread was a great complement to soak up the sauces and the salad had anchovies which made for some amazing flavor. The last thing I'll say about the food is that you don't want to destroy the texture and flavor by ordering anything fried (which was good, but felt muted)... stick to grilled, baked, or sautéed. We had a party of 20 and were able to get the privacy of the room in the back of the restaurant. The service was courteous and timely, likely because it was a relatively non-busy Saturday lunch (1:00pm - 3:00pm). I recommend you try this place with your favorite group of seafood fans (I've never had the steak). Bring an appetite and plan to stay awhile to enjoy the food and the ambiance.

Berni C.

Yelp
Food is fresh and tasty reminiscent of the Greek isles cuisine! It's on the pricy side but given the humongous portions which you could share, you still get your money's worth. My husband and I shared the food and we still have take out left over to take home..Love the seafood salad and the dinner combo of shrimp and scallops. The service is excellent. Our lady server is very attentive and thoughtful... Customer service is awesome. The lady server gave me the impression that she loves her job. Love the cozy , out in the patio/garden ambience.. Lots of outdoor and indoor seats to chose from. If budget is not a concern , this resto will be my daily staple coz lots of healthy seafood/ pasta options to chose from... This resto is the quintessential mark of the very healthy Mediterranean diet!

K T.

Yelp
We had a large party of 12. The waiter was nice and attentive. But almost everyone in our party became sick. I have eaten here before and enjoyed the food, but this time EVERYTHING taseted off. Even the drinks were light in liquor. My mother had fresh oysters which she said were delicious. We spent over a grand with tips. But the food wasnt worth 100 dollars to me. The fish had no seasoning or flavor the gumbo which is uaually quite good was bland and the color was off. I was too tired from arranging the gathering to complain. We just wont go back. These places that charge all this money need to step up their game. We would have been better going to Dennys. I dont know if seafood in general is just nasty in Chicago or if the restaurants here are serving us food from last years catch.

Han J.

Yelp
Friends and family had been recommending this place for a while, and I now understand why! The fish was scrumptious and tasted fresh. I ordered the fried halibut and it wasn't greasy. I initially had some sticker shock once the menu was sitting in front of me, but the plate honestly could have fed 3-4 people, so I think it was reasonable. I had leftovers for days. Our waiter on the evening we went unfortunately was not very welcoming and was visibly annoyed when my parents had questions about the menu. He also checked on surrounding tables multiple times throughout the evening, but he only came by to drop off our food and deliver the check- it was odd.

Dante M.

Yelp
How this place gets anything less than five stars is absolutely mind blowing. The food is made with the freshest ingredients and the portion sizes are absolutely massive!! This was our first time here so we really didn't know what we were getting ourselves into. We started with the saganaki, which is a flaming cheese (typically feta made of sheeps milk) served with a lemon wedge and paired really nicely with the bread they gave in the beginning. Then we moved on to a dozen of the baked clams that were loaded with bread crumbs and baked to perfection. For the entrees, I had the red snapper dinner which consisted of a beautiful piece of red snapper accompanied with wild rice and roasted potatoes and vegetables. You could taste how fresh the fish was and how organic all of the ingredients were. My grandma had the caprese salad with shrimp, and the salad just have been big enough to feed five people! Make sure you are very hungry when you come here!

Truc N.

Yelp
A very spacious restaurant with lots of seating however this place gets packed! Whenever we go her we order our usually, clam chowder soup, a dozen oysters and the cioppino. We always really enjoy the food when we go here. These are the 3 items I usually recommend. There's other really delicious items on the menu but these are our favorite.

Carmen T.

Yelp
Great Food, Atmosphere, and Service - Nice indoor and outdoor dining area. What more is there to say?

Marina B.

Yelp
Although "the pricey" is the main thing I can think off when I mention this place, I have to admit it is really worth it. First of all, the portions are huge and the second- they are sooo good! Have heard Wheeling location is better then Des Plaines location and decided to check this place out. Order Seafood gumbo (it is for 4 people, not for 1, but since I didn't know I took it for myself only) and it was delicious! My partner ordered some fish, forgot what he took, just know it was really pricey and wasn't so thrilled with it. Anyway i will definitely go back to try something more, but next time in Des Plains location
