Where To Eat And Drink Around Northeastern

"Big plates of food for under $16 are as essential to living as oxygen, water, and Amazon Prime. Boston Shawarma is a quick counter-service place where you can fill up on meaty pita wraps and sandwiches every night until 10:30pm. You can’t go wrong with the signature shawarma sandwich, but we prefer the lamb kofta, and we almost always finish with the baklava." - dan secatore

Boston Shawarma - Review - Fenway - Boston - The Infatuation

"Boston Shawarma is a counter-serve shawarma place on Northeastern’s campus. It serves big plates of the usual lamb, chicken, and falafel, and not only is everything better than average but it’s pretty cheap, too. Start with the standard shawarma sandwich on a nicely grilled pita wrap." - Dan Secatore

Google
The Shawarma tastes great. But I don’t have any service. The sauce smells like peanut. The price is higher than I expected.

Noyonika Parulekar

Google
The staff is very sweet and friendly. Unfortunately, the shawarmas my friend and I got were bland and did not taste like shawarma meat. Similarly, the baklava was underwhelming — flavorless and lacking in pistachios and rose flavoring.

Omar Mabrouk

Google
Chicken was super dry. Family of 5 came on mothers day. Service was quick. Free water bottles with each meal which was nice. They do bribe you for good reviews in exchange for baklava. Upon leaving saw a large Costco-like baklava box in their trash.. so it's store bought stuff.. staff was south American and they didn't seem happy to be there..

Google
what an insanely large portion and so much variety in food in one plate. solid flavors too, I wouldn’t say the meat was incredible but it wasn’t distractingly dry or anything. It’s solid. it’s like a time machine to when things were 5$, i think 20$ is worth it when you get a bit of everything and they aren’t trying to pinch pennies on the size of a falafel or meat like cava

Zachary Warmath

Google
Great value for money. I have never finished my plate ($17), and I always leave fulfilled. Also, free water with entrée is a great touch, and the honey walnut baklava is incredible. I will keep coming back, even though it is near Northeastern.

Google
Huge portion like for two, pretty convenient and good taste

Google
Solid shawarma spot with generous protein. The food was served very quickly so this spot is perfect on the go too. The food is really flavorful too so I do think this is also very worth the price that you pay. Would highly recommend stopping by here to grab a quick meal!

Google
Good tasting shawarma with amazing hummus! It’s a tiny rundown spot with just a few tables for dine-in, but the place was packed with students and locals on a weekday. The meal came with a nice portion size and packed with great flavors. Perfect spot for a quick bite too.

Yelp
Such a delicious comfort food! The portion is more than enough so I usually share with my friend. Also they give one bottle of water for free if you dine in. Staffs are friendly and generous. There are 6-7 tables for dine in. Cute and cozy place :)

Yelp
Meh bland and uninspired Mediterranean food should be bolder zestier tastier the only Good Shawarma Ive had in Boston is at a grocery on Broadway in Revere the ones in Boston seem pedestrian by comparison.

Yelp
I was happily surprised when I walked in here and found an amazing shawrma joint in Boston! We got here and ordered 2 plates, the chicken and falafel one. Both had amazing flavor. Each came with hummus, rice, a salad and fries! A great spot with great food!

Yelp
I was in the area and wanted a quick bite before my ride home and came across Boston Shawarma. It s a cute little shawarma place in Newton with a few tables for dine in. The are many Mediterranean food options to choose from. Theres shawarma, kabobs, falafel, grape leaves and more. The food is very filling and the portions are very large yet tasty. Jimmy took care of us and was generous with the portion sizes and served us the food quite fast. Boston Shawarma is definitely a convenient and healthy food option.

Yelp
Their chicken shawarma comes with kebab meat marinated in curry and tahini (?) and as dry as circus peanuts. The service was alright and the ambience too but this was the most disappointing "shawarma" I've ever had.

Yelp
My husband went to school in Boston & consequently has very good memories associated with this place. He visited it after 4 whole years & it still continues to be his fave food spot in Boston. Theres plenty of indoor seating & the service is very prompt.

Yelp
Clean looking dining room and prep kitchen. Assortment of soft beverages and desserts spinach pies lamb. My lamb plate was gyros style meat. The price was $18.00. I asked first about the lamb. I knew it wasn't a cut of meat. It was disappointing. Being in a college restaurant row, it's cheap eats but not the best. Plenty of salad and rice. The lamb was in 1/2 inch or less pieces almost like a crumble. The hummus was good, the rice not memorable. Salad just ok. The preparer was polite. A free bottle of water was included but did not make up for the disappointing lamb. It had no lamb flavor and was a bit too salty. Kind of flavorless. In comparison to My last review of this type restaurant, 5 star Quincy's Falafel King with real cuts of lamb.
google avatar

Yelp
When they say meat sandwich, they mean MEAT sandwich here. I don't think I've ever had a bigger daily dose of protein before, so you get your money's worth if that's something you enjoy! Unfortunately it was a bit much for me - I usually prefer something more balanced with veggies. I ordered the lamb meat sandwich to-go on a weekend evening. Although they were a bit busy, the nice staff prepared my food quickly and it even stayed warm during my trek home. The sandwich was fresh and tasty, but as previously mentioned, I wish I ordered something else that had a bit more veggies. The prices have definitely gone up recently, which is disappointing but expected, but I was caught off guard by the additional surcharge for paying by card (around 4% extra), which I didn't see clear signage about.

Yelp
Pretty good! Sandwiches are huge and cheap. Would come back. Got the chicken shawarma sandwich and tabbouleh

Soso A.

Yelp
It's not taste like shawarma at all, you can see the shawarma but the person didn't cut from it he fill it from a pot in the side of the table

Yelp
A small local eatery near the art museum and close to the orange line station, this schearma place makes some pretty good food. I had their chicken schwarma after visiting the museum and it was very flavorful and packed with an assortment of ingredient's. The interior has some seating and a stinky bathroom, but this is all part of the atmosphere of this place. It is worth a try and a solid filling option for any hungry traveler.
google avatar

Kristine Z.

Yelp
Really cozy and casual spot! The portions are huge and more than enough for two people - flavorful chicken, spiced falafel (nutmeg?) , fries, salad, and sauces. They offer a free plastic water as well.
google avatar

Hursuong V.

Yelp
Great value! I ordered the chicken shawarma plate which was delicious. One order is enough food for two people. I liked the spicy sauce that they included next to the hummus. I also got the baklava which was not too sweet (in a good way) - I feel like there are baklava out there that is just dripping in syrup but this was definitely more nutty. Absolutely a no frills shop. Minimal indoor seating. The staff are efficient. Even on a random weekday lunch there is a steady flow of customers, but I didn't have to wait long for my food. They were even frying new french fries for my box.
google avatar

Yelp
So me and my bro were hungry af. We decided it was wings or shwarma (two very different cuisines) but eventually chose the shwarma. Let me tell you, I think we chose correct. My food was delicious but I had just one problem with the place; I put too much salt on my fries ;) anyway I give about 4 minutes before there's an apocalypse in the bathroom so I gotta go. Thanks tho

Yelp
This place absolutely delicious. I got the Mix It Dinner Plate. It came with fries, hummus, and salad. They give really large portions. They give free water with a plate or sandwich too. The food was ready really wuic Definitely recommend coming here, especially if you're a Northeastern student.

Yelp
I was in Boston visiting places I used to frequent years ago near Northeastern University and I came across this spot. If im not mistaken, this restaurant has been here since inwas here back in the mid 90s. I wanted just a taste of lamb but ended up ordering a lamb gyro wrap. It was delicious and worth the price. I could hardly finish the entire thing...but I did, lol. I highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
Best bang-for-your-buck shawarma place in Boston! My go-to meal is the Go Combo Dinner, which feeds you for 2 days (don't forget your bottled water that comes with the combo). The meats (lamb, chicken, and kafta) are well seasoned and moist (not dry like some other places) with plenty of rice, salad, and fries. Who knew hummus with fries was so good? Service is pretty fast, usually wait about 5-10 min after ordering to get served, even when it gets busy.

Yelp
We were looking for something casual and close and couldn't help but see the great reviews for Boston Shawarma. We went in as a group of 4 and had a different variety of things ranging from wraps to a plate. Overall the quality of the food was great. Everything was hot, fresh, and made to order. They wraps are good for one person and the plate can stretch to two if one isn't very hungry. The meat was tasty although the falafel was a bit on the dry side. This is an "order at the counter, find a seat, and wait for your food" type of place. There isn't a lot of seating so if you come at a busy time, you might have to find someplace else to sit. I'd take off another 1/2 star due to the lack of helpfulness by the guy working the counter/register. We were the only customers there and considering the different options and he answered with short responses and offered no suggestions. Also, there's a sign that if you order a plate, you get a free bottled water. We happened to order a water and he didn't charge us but didn't say anything about it.

Yelp
The flavors of the food at this place was great. However, in this current economy, I think there should be more appreciation of customers spending their hard earned cash at an establishment and you do not get that respect here. The portion sizes of the plate does not match the $18 price tag. In addition, the price of the food doesn't even match the price listed on the menu on the inside of the restaurant. I think that is bad business. So while the food was tasty, I would spend your money somewhere else.

Cathy N.

Yelp
I ordered the lamb shawarma plate. The price is higher than what was on the old menu on their window. Their actual price can be found inside. It was really filling, but the lamb was a bit too salty. The pita, hummus, and fries were very mediocre. The service was quick. There are a few seats inside, but I ordered to go.
google avatar

Yelp
It was going good, but then I found a hair... Portions were worth the buck. They give you free water with your meal as well as a slice of baklava if you upload a review. Falafel was good with that crunch on the outside. Lamb and chicken were flavorful, fries were underwhelming, and sauce was confusing. Personally felt that the sauce should have more seasoning. The white hummus was a bit bland and the spicy one has a KICK. Baklava was a little too sweet to my liking :/. Tried lamb shawarma, chicken shawarma, and honey walnut baklava.

Yelp
Great service, food and atmosphere! I would recommend to anyone in the area! The baklava is amazing!

Yelp
This place was pretty good. The ingredients, as I could tell, were fresh. They give you a lot for your money, but in a way this is actually kind of a problem. My salad was about 50% chicken, which for some people might be great, but when I order a salad I generally hope for something lighter--otherwise, I might as well have gotten a wrap, which will definitely be my choice next time. Also, with so much dressing, it was nearly impossible to save some for later (and I tried), so I didn't even eat most of it. But, what I was able to eat was good. For more positives, the food came out quickly and they even gave me a free falafel, which, while kind of stale, was a very nice gesture. Also, the baklava was perfect!
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down the best shawarma I have had in the Boston area!! I got the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich with fries. They put the fries inside the shawarma sandwich so they do get a little soggy. They have a lot of items on the menu including plates and sandwiches. They also have meat pies, spinach pies, pides and dessert. My friend got a falafel sandwich and she really liked it as well. The prices are also on the cheap end and the serving size is huge. I'm assuming the shawarmas with fries won't travel well so perhaps avoid it for delivery. Request for owners: consider introducing shawarma "on the rocks" which is shawarma on rice with garlic and hot sauce or "on stix" on French fries. The plate is too much food but this may just hit the spot. I'll definitely be back to try all the other things on the menu.
google avatar

Wern O.

Yelp
TLDR: the real deal Big portions, delicious food, everything you ever hoped for in a casual shawarma restaurant.

Log I.

Yelp
Unfortunately, they forgot part of my order. Also, they review farm by offering free treats in exchange for a review.
google avatar

Yelp
We got the Mix It (Lamb & Chicken) and Go Combo (Lamb, Chicken, & Kafta) Plates. Both plates came with fries, but one set of the fries was cold and super stale and the other one hot and crunchy. I'm not even sure what they were thinking when preparing our plates. I would've been more satisfied if both fries were stale to be consistent. The portion sizes are definitely generous here and although the meat was juicy, it lacked flavor. The garlic sauce was also not as creamy and tasted a bit spicy. The guy working at the cashier also wasn't very friendly. I was a bit annoyed after ordering to find out that there was a 3.99% charge for using credit card. They do have a small sign, but it's easy to miss and it would've been great if they check if this is fine when customers order. Also, there is a sign that says you get a free water bottle when you order a plate. The cashier taking our order didn't even tell us this and we only realized it later.
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely Shawarma spot! You wouldn't know it from the outside, since it's just a little hole in the wall, but this spot is a real gem!
google avatar

Eri L.

Yelp
Grabbed a lamb shawarma platter for lunch-- it was a super filling portion for two. The stars were the shawarma and the hummus; the lamb was juicy and very flavorful, while the hummus was smooth and paired well with the rest of the platter (salad, yellow rice with peas and carrots, pita). Service was fast. Tables fill up quickly around lunchtime but folks rotate through quickly.
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
Enormous portions... for $16 you basically get a whole to go container filled to the brim. Got the chicken shawarma plate. Everything tasted really fresh and it includes everything you could possibly want - falafel, rice, greens, pita, etc. There's barely any wait time on most days too.
google avatar

Carlotta C.

Yelp
I was craving a shawarma on this day and decided to try Boston Shawarma. I got the chicken shawarma with a side of fries and wow, it sure satisfied the craving. Price point is fair, I believe I paid about $15 for both - a huge serving. Ordering was a bit confusing, so I'm not sure I got the garlic sauce on mine, so a suggestion I have is ensuring you get the sauce you want, as well as more pickles.

Navita N.

Yelp
I got a chicken shawarma plate, beef patty and walnut baklava. Chicken shawarma plate was okay, huge portion, enough for two. Beef patty and walnut baklava were the worst I ever had. Those were stale and felt like a week old. Don't rely on google and yelp reviews as they give free baklava if you leave a review. The service was not great and I will not go to this restaurant again.
google avatar

Mehrnaz H.

Yelp
I really wanted this place to be a great one as the sign outside for the Husky special meals sounded like a great deal, thought our son can visit it frequently. A shawarma wrap, fries, falafel and a drink for $9 with the student ID/Husky card, not a bad deal!!! The lamb Shawarma was nice and tender but the chick shawarma salad was very dry and lacked flavor. The salad also was definitely one of the worst we have tried, both of us only took one bite of the falafel and could not eat anymore. The fries were not hot and not crispy. Recommendation: if you go, try the lamb shawarma as it is the best meal you will get here. The staff were really nice and helpful and the place is nice and clean considering the student traffic they get from the Northeastern University.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
My go-to place for shawarma. I always get the lamb sandwich, but my friend tried the dinner plate and enjoyed it. The lamb is a but salty though, so I usually have to drink water before finishing. I wish they had some more vegetables in it to balance it out a bit more, but still a solid place.
google avatar

Nick N.

Yelp
Recently dropped by for some Shawarma after moving to the area, and have to say this is the best, most reasonably price shawarma place in the area. The staff are really friendly and the food is a decent sized portion. I had a chicken and lamb rice platter, which was really great, my only complaint is that there wasn't enough sauce with the hummus, but at $12, it wasn't bad for the area at all. The chicken and lamb weren't dry and there was plenty of flavor. On top of that, since I dined in, I got a free bottle of water with the meal. Also tried a slice of the baklava. It was humongous for $3.50. It was about the size of an iphone XR, and was the right mix of flakey-ness, sweetness, and a crunchy exterior and chewey interior. Am definitely coming back! They also offer a student discount if you go to Northeastern - wish I was a student again.
google avatar

Charlie H.

Yelp
Absolute beauty. Wonderful shawarma place in Boston. It has insanely big portions and for a decent price. If it were a little bit less pricey for the vegetarian option, I'd give it a 5 stars. Strongly recommend.
google avatar

Rayad S.

Yelp
Boston Shawarma is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant near Northeastern University that you initially might not think about checking out. However, you would be missing out on some AMAZING food if you didn't give this place a go. I got the Huskie Special which includes a shawarma, fries, a falafel ball, and a soda all for 10 dollars. The shawarma was huge and tasty although could be spicier. The fries are good but the falafel ball was the BEST part. The interior is rustic with very little space for dining yet surprisingly, thats what made it the best part. The staff were nice and friendly. Overall: Food: 9.5/10 Service: 9/10 Price: 10/10 Dining Space: 8/10 Would I try again? ABSOLUTELY

Yelp
So I'm dating this b**ch who's named Karma Hot as the sun, cute as a Llama And if she wants Lebanese She won't have to say please I'll just take her to Boston Shawarma If it's freezing in Boston, you Shawarma up with a Shawarma, and there are not many better than this one. The Boston Shawarma company is very good. I enjoy their products and their prices are not bad. They're located right across the street from the gym so it's a perfect location for me. Very heavy on the garlic sauce with the chicken shawarmas so that makes it extremely enjoyable. Not to be confused with Boston Salami, which is me when I wander around town with my junk hanging out. I think all in all it's one of the best Shawarma meals I've had in Massachusetts - if not the best - and I have to give them five stars even though if I put it up against the best in the nation it would fall quite a little bit short. They're also friendly and I enjoyed dancing in their mirrors and putting it on Snapchat. Anyway, I just spotted a Shawarma bees heading my way so I need to take cover before they turn me into Macauley Culkin at the end of My Girl.
google avatar

Eva L.

Yelp
Food: Awesome. Portions are generous as well. I only wished that they had the hot sauce or the option to add it? I haven't dined in, so chances are they have it for dine in or something. Service: meh. It's quick. Ambience: Beware of the steps going in and out of the store. I frequently miss the last step , but that's totally a me problem. However, the place is run down and kinda dirty. Not complaining, just a note.
google avatar

Iris S.

Yelp
This is one of the best shawarmas we have had in New England so far. (We previously lived in providence to years). We get a chicken and a lamb shawarma. Both are filled to the brim with veggies and deliciously seasoned, juicy meat. They are huge. While my fiancé can finish his, I usually can only finish half. I wish they came in sizes because it doesn't reheat the best. My only gripe is their "hot sauce" is actually more like a very mild garlic sauce... also delicious but really I'm used to a fire-y sauce to elevate my middle eastern food. Location wise, it is on a very busy street so parking at times can be difficult. This doesn't stop us though because my fiancé craves shawarmas pretty much once a week.
google avatar

Yelp
Located between Northeastern and Symphony Green Line train stations, this mostly take out spot is great for a quick bite to eat if you are at the MFA! Definitely would recommend the Huskie special ($11 w/o tax) that comes with a wrap of choice, French fries, a falafel ball, and a soda/bottled water. The lamb and beef I will definitely order. The kafta kabob was more like a burger slider, but still good. There are several small tables/chairs and there are hand sanitizers on each of the tables/counters. Business were swift and a constant stream of customers. Food was prepped to order. Ordering is easy and they accept credit card/cash.

Sindu R.

Yelp
service was good, messed up the babaghanoush. the chicken shawarma was extremely bland. the lamb shawarma was cooked well but seemed dry. the hummus is the problem, needs to be less acidic and more spicy. nonetheless, it seems like a popular spot, so maybe try something else on the menu.

Marc W.

Yelp
Been here many times over the years but there sandwiches/roll ups have really come down to lettuce, tomato, onion, tahini/garlic spread, and basically NO MEAT!!!!
google avatar

Mao C.

Yelp
We ordered beef shawarma salad. The portion is huge and it is delicious. We really enjoyed our lunch at Boston Shawarma.
google avatar

Yelp
I love boston shawarma! I've been coming here since 2015; their falafel sandwich is my favorite falafel I've ever had. It's crispy on the outside yet flavorful and creamy on the inside somehow; and the sauces are so flavorful. Highly recommend for an affordable yet delicious deal! (They even include a free soda with each order) Update: you can only receive a free soda/beverage if you order in person, not online :(
google avatar

Annilyn T.

Yelp
Love the food in here always!! I've only gotten the plates so far. But when I'm In a hurry, I only get sides or veggies and it's always good and fresh. Been here only a couple of times so I don't really have that much to say! It has a good location which is in the middle of downtown. Very accessible by train and it's right on the street as well. There's street parking too if you're lucky but there's pi alley garage across the street too

Yelp
My partner and I got hungry and decided to stop inside on a whim while passing by. It was a great decision! The staff was super friendly. Plus, the food was great and there was a lot of it! Out of everything, we liked the lamb (in the picture) the best, especially with the sauce. Would definitely recommend if you're passing by!

Yelp
I came not expecting much, and was ultimately let down. However, when I first entered the establishment I thought my initial prejudice based on these reviews and talking with other foodies were unnecessarily harsh as the meat on the spits in the back looked amazing, and so did the meat pies at the front. However, the shawarma wrap that I got was dry and the vegetables were as cheap and flavorless as could be. It seems like the place has all the ingredients for yummy food, except perhaps TLC? I skipped on the meat pie as I was too disappointed with the sandwich. I would be open to check them out again in the future, perhaps as a to-go item, in case the next one turned out to be too dry again, so I could douse it with some homemade sauces. That said, the place is definitely better than many other shawarma places in the area, but not nearly as good as others.
