"Botanist is just one of the few who regularly gave away meals to people." - Eater Staff
"Westside cocktail bar Botanist House had planned to started serving cocktails to-go almost a month before the bill was signed into law. The bar posted an open letter to Oregonians saying that they would start selling mixed drinks by November 25, regardless of legislation, as “a civil disobedience protest of our state’s constitution,” in their words." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
"By the end of this month, Robbie Wilson and Matt Davidson plan to start selling to-go cocktails from their Northwest Portland bar — whether the state permits it or not. This morning, Wilson and Davidson, owners of the cocktail bar Botanist, posted to the bar’s Instagram account that it would begin offering cocktails to-go on November 25 — despite the state’s ban on takeout cocktails. The post describes the sales as “a civil disobedience protest of our state’s constitution,” a last resort after months of phone call and email campaigns, social media campaigns, and petitions calling for the legalization of to-go drinks. In Wilson and Davidson’s perspective, the looming winter, lack of stimulus, and slowdown of business has made the need for to-go cocktail sales absolutely essential; if the state wouldn’t let them do it, they’d do it themselves as a matter of survival." - Alex Frane
"Botanist, the cocktail bar newly perched on a Pearl District rooftop, is temporarily closing to try to weather-proof its patio, but it’s unclear how long that break will be. The team is hoping the bar will only be closed for a month, but the rise in COVID-19 cases — there were 805 new Oregon cases reported yesterday — also impacts how long the bar will be closed." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
"Botanist has been giving away brown bag meals to service workers impacted by restaurant closures during Portland’s COVID-19 outbreak. The team has given away more than 1,200 so far, delivering meals and also offering them for pickup. Those interested in a sack lunch can place order on this website." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
