NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"In Crown Heights, Bottega is an Italian café that comes from the same folks who opened Maretta in the East Village in 2024. They’re doing coffee and pastries, as well as sandwiches, like tuna with pickled red onion, artichokes, fried capers, and fontina on griddled milk bread that they're baking in house." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, bryan kim

The Brooklyn Hit List: The Best New Restaurants In Brooklyn - New York - The Infatuation

"Crown Heights’ tuna melt scene is heating up. OK, so the crown remains pretty firmly planted on Agi’s Counter’s head. But Bottega, an Italian café, serves a very good version. It's served on griddled milkbread that’s baked at sister restaurant Maretta, and comes with confit artichokes, capers, melted fontina, and a smear of lemon aioli. Bottega serves breakfast sandwiches before 11, as well as spritzes, making it an all-purpose stop anytime before 4pm. And since it’s a 20-minute walk from Prospect Park, it’s also a useful place to pick up a spicy fennel sausage sandwich, a bowl of pesto orecchiette with oyster mushrooms, or mortadella on focaccia with summer squash and stracchino before a picnic." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim, sonal shah

There are many better Italian restaurants in a 15 min walking radius

Our party of four enjoyed an excellent lunch at bottega menu options were well executed. Ranging from salads and baked clams to pasta. Can’t wait to go back.

Google
Nice cozy restaurant, great food, very friendly staff, generous portions, overall good experience. The only bad was, flies all over our food and around the table, please fix that issue was really bad. I’ll still coming back !

Google
I think its easy to be disappointed at Italian restaurants in New York and so its really refreshing to be so pleasantly surprised by a restaurant. The food was very good, and quite economical. The branzino was superb, served differently as filets instead of a whole fish and picatta style. The bolognese was also very good. Exactly what you'd want. The staff was very pleasant and attentive, and even sang happy birthday to my son when they found out it was his birthday. I would definitely come back again.

Google
Ana is the best Bartender, this is place to be. The atmosphere is great. Love mains and pasta. Especially the bread and sun-dried tomatoe oil, that they serve on the house. Definitely the place to come.

Google
Food is good and above average in this area… service is great except for that they gave our bill to another table which they paid and then we paid for their bill afterwards… will come back to exchange bills again…

Yelp
The food, the service, the ambience, was all amazing! We had the fried calamari and zucchini, and couldn't believe how nice and hot it was- and it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. This was quite possibly the best calamari appetizer I've ever had. Certainly it was the first time I had it mixed with zucchini. It was a great world class pairing! We opted not to have pasta for the come primo but for come secondo I had the spicy chicken and my date had the pork chop. Both equally amazing dishes. I urge you to try them. I saw another table ordered the veal. .....it looked amazing! I had an espresso and shared the tiramisu. My date was in awe of the delicate flavors. I must admit that I was blown away as well. We're going to go back and I want to try the ravioli and spinach, and the veal. But I'll be honest- everything looks amazing on the menu. I would be remiss if I didn't mention my waiter. He was an older gentleman with spikey hair. The man was on point with everything. He certainly brought his A game when he walked onto the dining room floor. I had no issue taking extra special care of him. He did great work.

Yelp
Whoever is setting prices for Bottega's menu clearly hasn't tried their food in a while. It just wasn't great. The meal started with a half-basket of bread and some marinara sauce. The bread was just on the edge of being outright stale, and the sauce was pretty oily. Then came the fried calamari and zucchini, again with a side of marinara, this time with some red pepper flakes dusted over it. This dish was so uninspired, it didn't taste like the batter had any seasoning at all. For mains, we had spaghetti al pomodoro and one of the specials, squid ink linguini with a seafood medley (scallops, salmon). The scallops were nicely seared, for what it's worth. But the rest of the meal tasted like it had been prepared by someone who just graduated college and was just learning to cook for themselves. Ingredients were pretty random, dishes were really busy and uninspired, and the flavors were mostly bland. All for around $30 per entree, if not more for some dishes. Just not worth it, there are so many better options on the UES.

Yelp
We went here for Mothers Day The food was consistently OK But the service was deplorable. The waiter not once came over to us a party of 5 besides taking our order. Even after we received the tab no one came over to us to pay Until he saw me go to the manager to pay finally that stirred him We will go back on a slow Monday evening.

Juan R.

Yelp
I went there with my friends and they loved it, I ordered the lasagna and the burrata , both were delicious, my friends ordered a bunch of appetizers and everything was delicious, I ask all my friends about the main course and everyone says they were delicious, the waiter was really professional and the dirty martinis were excellent, I love place and definitely we will go back there soon 100%

Yelp
Amazing service, yummy drinks and delicious food. Especially this brunch menu. The smoked salmon eggs Benedict is my absolute favorite, as well as the steak and eggs. An upper east side gem!!

Yelp
I used to love this restaurant. Service perfect. Food was excellent. I loved the swordfish with spinach Rosetto. Also the chicken with gorgonzola. I lived the food. So they got a new chef and changed menu. My dinner was awful. I hardly ate it. I can't believe they took a great menu and screwed it's up. Very bad choice. Sorry to say this as it was my favorite restaurant. No more.

Yelp
It's odd when 4 restaurants are in a row, three of which have CLOSED, and the 4th has a disgusting aptitude towards a customer at lunch when the restaurant was empty. The lunch special menu was not offered, No wine by the glass menu available, and the waiter was unable to give me prices on the wines he had. Not a winning business model. I never got to the food.
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
We came for a weekday lunch. The restaurant was mainly empty with the exception of about 5 other tables. There is no lunch menu (which was disappointing, lunch and dinner are the SAME menu). Ordered the endive salad, warm mushroom salad, pasta vongole and baby squid with spinach. All of the food was excellent! We loved that we were able to leisurely sit and relax for our lunch. Overall, would recommend! But come for dinner as prices as the same.

Jim M.

Yelp
Have walked by this place many times, but my first time actually going in for a meal. The food was incredible, and the service was impeccable. Great place for a family dinner, or just a romantic dinner for 2.

Yelp
I visited Bottega a few weeks ago for a birthday party, and had an amazing experience. We had most of the restaurant, with a few regular diners outside. They prepared a lot of little appetizers to get us started, and when we all sat down for lunch, promptly took our orders. Since I have a few allergies, they were easily able to accommodate an already set menu. From delicious salads, to salmon, to dessert, everything was amazing. They constantly kept everyone's drinks full, and were very attentive. I loved the salmon, it was cooked to perfection. Everyone absolutely devoured the tiramisu. Make sure you stop by, next time you're in the area!

Yelp
Walking past here and the atmosphere and menu out front caught my husband and my eyes. We were window shopping for a place to eat on our first night out after moving from Chicago and this couldn't have been a better choice. The service was immediate friendly and outstanding. The manager let us choose one of two tables which is not something every restaurant does. The patio was beautiful and the inside was gorgeous with a very Classic Italian vibe. The food was outstanding and the waiters were on top of everything from water to wine refills to clearing throughout our lovely dinner. The wine selection is massive and my husband thought "it was some of the best wine he's ever tasted." He got the spinach fettuccini and swordfish and I got the veal piccata and portables mushrooms for app and they were Ahmazinggg! Love this place and the atmosphere and when our Italian family comes to visit we will take them here. Thank you Bottega!
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I come here regularly for dinner. Lovely ambiance (we always prefer one of the tables in the back for privacy), good service, always greeted warmly. My friend always enjoys his meals here. The wine is always excellent too. I am vegan so my choices are limited, but I do enjoy the pasta with vegetables. Our only complaint is that the pasta dish is $26.... overpriced for such a simple dish. I love the restaurant but got to say. none of the other Italian restaurants in the area charge anywhere near that much for just pasta and some vegetables. Lower the price please?

Yelp
Great food.. very good staff. Felt inviting and could not beat the service! The photos do NOT do the plates of delicious foods Justice. Renée

Yelp
Went for lunch, it was delicious! Very friendly staff, great experience. We got the special ravioli with eggplant and vodka sauce, chicken milanese, and penne with tomato sauce. Will definitely be returning!

Yelp
Nice lunch spot in the UES side. Dinner prices are a bit pricey, but for lunch it was the perfect fit. They have a range of soups and appetizers from seafood and veggies to meat. We had the fried calamari and zucchini as well as the mushroom polenta. Both dishes were wonderful - the calamari was lightly fried and paired well with the tomato sauce. The polenta was creamy and perfect with the slight truffle flavored mushrooms. For mains, we tried the seafood pasta and bolognese pasta, appetizer size, which was perfect for a lunch portion! The seafood was solid and bolognese was good but nothing special. Overall, it was a great lunch experience. Service was fast and friendly and an effort was made to distance between tables. There's also heating in the outdoor area and plastic coverings between tables. Looking forward to coming back for a decadent lunch again sometime.

Betty L.

Yelp
Overall great experience. The service was fast, Appetizers came in less than 5 minutes; the main courses came in 15 minutes. The food was sublime, with a decent portion. The servers are friendly, and the setting is warm.

Yelp
Delicious food. The service was amazing. Beautiful outdoor seating. The place made us feel at home.

Yelp
Food: 4/5 I've been coming here for years. They have one of the best linguine with clams pasta dish and a marinated baby squid with spinach entree. I've also tried their veal, sirloin and salmon dishes a few times. If you want good Italian food all around and you're in the area, I definitely recommend trying this place. Service: 4/5 The team here is on point. My water and wine never goes empty. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Ambiance: 4/5 Cute and intimate place. Great date spot. Pretty dark and quiet inside. Very cozy.

Yelp
Anthony, the great personality welcoming you to Bottega Restaurant at 70th and 2nd, is a maestro of magic when it comes to food and ambience, having created this superb 2nd Avenue gem that we love for its amazing antipasti, creative cocktails and some of the most fabulous specials in the UES restaurant scene. (Check out their soups, halibut and branzino!) From the minute you stroll into Anthony's welcoming food festival in the well appointed and sleek modern dining room (past the lovely and welcoming patio space which is a favorite for our pup who's treated like a king by the folks who make Bottega one of our favorites!), one is in awe of the walls of wine racks featuring some terrific vintages and hidden jewels from around Italy and the world. From the beautiful bar stocked with the standards as well as some surprising eclectics that allow you to explore your inner mixologist, one feels at home, ready to be pampered, well fed and treated like the friends you've always wanted to be in a place that takes two things more seriously than anything else - it's food and it's clientele. Become part of its family and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Very good! Really great outdoor dining set up where you're on the sidewalk and not some set up that is in the middle of the street. Very tasty food! Burrata with prosciutto is always a win. The gnocchi with spinach cream sauce is perfection. Loved the whole branzino and the fettuccini with the chicken and roasted vegetables. Great service! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is a solid neighborhood Italian place. Not the fanciest menu, but the food is reliably good. My husband particularly likes their linguine with clams. We had eaten there in the past but did a pickup order for the first time this week. They were organized and packed our food well. Everything tasted good.
google avatar

Don C.

Yelp
Had a spontaneous dinner here last Sunday, 1/29. Staff was very friendly & gracious. Specials were well thought out. Decided on a delicious burrata appetizer, raviolis and cannot recall what my date had but She loved it (sorry!) bread was nice and the Montepulciano was on point. The waiter was excellent. Would definitely return.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Group of six with varied tastes and experience. Service was impeccable, food well timed and perfectly cooked - had one Swordfish medium and another medium well and there was the perfect difference. Apps, main course, desert all very good. Stop in!
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant for my birthday. I was a bit disappointed. The food was made beautifully, but the way it is for a bit distant and I found the real to be a bit tough but during Covid things have changed and Weiler and the dessert was excellent but I was yet disappointed first of all they really should put more lemon in season real piccata
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
My sister and her husband said it "hit the spot", but I was pretty seriously underwhelmed. This is an old school, classic Italian joint. They have a good list of staples on the menu and everything from the chairs and decor to the service matches that vibe. To me both the food and the liquor situation were disappointing. They don't have a cocktail list, and when we asked for one they just said "we have a full bar, can make anything." For beer, they have two beers - Amstel Light and Pilsner Urquell. For food we started with a Caprese, which was extremely forgettable. Thick sliced semi-ripe tomato with supermarket grade mozzarella on top. I had the gnocchi for dinner. The gnocchi were pillowy and delightful, but the cream sauce was largely without flavor and the dish was overall disappointing. The staff were accommodating and nice, and we ended up being one of the later parties there on a Thursday.

Yelp
Food and service..... I couldn't ask for more. Everything was so yummy! Service was great! I will definitely return

Yelp
Friendly and attentive staff. Delicious food and always has great specials. Good wine selection.

Yelp
2.5 stars. Had dinner with the family here last week, and it was a below average, but not completely awful neighborhood joint. Watery but ok linguine with clams, & decent filet of sole meunière special. Waiter was rather cross and not in a very good mood. Desserts were subpar. I'm hardly ever on the Upper East Side, but there must be better places for the price.
google avatar

Yelp
Despite the average Yelp reviews, I found this restaurant quite pleasant, with good food, great service and a nice, easy vibe. We sat outside and enjoyed a nice light summer dinner of eggplant rolletini, fried calamari and zucchini, a basket of Italian bread with sundried tomato sauce and two bottles of ice cold Sauvignon Blanc. Consumed slowly over the course of two hours or so, our experience couldn't have been more pleasant. Our waiter was so nice and brought us a plate of biscotti, for no other reason than to make our experience more enjoyable. Note that the Second Avenue subway construction chaos has finally ended, which makes a tremendous difference to the overall ambiance.

Meg S.

Yelp
I ate here with 3 friends in April. My friends seemed happy enough but not overwhelmed. I found the food ok but not memorable - my dish was the pollo di gorgonzola. I'd give the place another try if someone recommended it, but I wouldn't seek it out on my own. The atmosphere is old school Italian. Tablecloths, low lighting. Service wasn't notable, one way or the other.
google avatar

Thomas W.

Yelp
An UES wonderful Italian restaurant that provides great service, and wonderful salads, and meals. I love their bread and quality marinara sauce. It is all about the marinara--do not miss Bottega!
google avatar

Robert F.

Yelp
Attentive service. Terrific food. Enjoyable atmosphere. Very nice lunch here. I'll be back.
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
Barely decent. Service was blah. Food was blah. Calamari was chewy and limp. Gnocchi was not pillowy but mushy rocks. Pork lion was decent but the other white meat was dry. Veal with prosciutto was one dimensional flavored. Mixed berry tart was the best part of the meal and I think that was from a vendor. Not worth going again if you're not in the neighborhood...
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars because it was somewhere in the middle of 3 and 4 stars. My husband and I ate dinner here and tried a good number of things: -beef carpaccio: this was very good and the beef was very tender. I would get this again -burrata with prosciutto: this was a special of the night and we really enjoyed it. The burrata was perfectly creamy and the prosciutto, red peppers and mushrooms that went with it were all tasty. -grilled polenta with mushrooms: I really enjoyed the polenta, but the mushrooms didn't have much flavor -mussels: my husband loved these, but I thought the sauce lacked salt or some flavor. It was like a very watered down marinara sauce -mushroom ravioli with red sauce: the pasta was so light and fresh and we loved it. I would have liked the sauce to have a little tang to it, but still really enjoyed this dish -tiramisu: amazing and so fluffy. If you're in the area I would recommend trying this restaurant
google avatar

Yelp
My second visit at Bottega and successful again! Rigatoni di Bologna and Caprese di Bufala salad. Both very good! They serve fresh bread before the meal. Don't get too full on the bread. It's very good and tempting, but wait for your meal. You'll thank me for this tip.

Yelp
This is my friend favorite go to place and it was my first time here. We looked for dinner in the area and my friend took me this place. We sats on the bar because we wanted watch TV. It was nice experience. The bartender was very friendly and our waiter was nice attitude too. We ordered steamed mussels, grilled salmon, linguini, shrimp pasta. We shared our dishes and I tried linguini but I didn't think really good also My friend said this place linguini was really good before but not this time. I only could say steamed mussels was good. I'm not sure i went to here wrong day or I was too hungry and ate too much bread before our food came out. I would like to try go back to this place again. This is nice place to eat Italian in the area.

Yelp
A party of 9 people. We came for dinner to celebrate one of my friends birthday. In the beginning, our waiter was quite friendly with a bit if humor. Looking at the menu, I realized the prices were off compared to another menu. We asked the waiter and apparently it was the lunch menu(that explains the price difference on both menus). He took the menu away and didn't bother to switch it. So I viewed the other menu already given earlier. We all ordered our pastas. I got the Linguine Alla Vongolei. It was decent but not the best. I've tasted better Italian food elsewhere. While eating our entree and conversing, a random customer came up to us and told us we were too loud and to lower our voices. Also saying that this is a fancy restaurant, not a zoo.(some bitchy attitude you got miss!). Honestly, this isn't really a fancy restaurant to me, it's just any typical restaurant that is a bit overpriced. We decided to buy a cake elsewhere and surprise the birthday girl. After singing the Happy Birthday Song, the waiter offered to cut the cake and we agreed to it. I asked the waiter where the rest of the cake was and he said all gone, it's finished. Apparently, it means he cut 9 slices out of the whole cake? It didn't really look like that when he gave us our slice. I remembered the cake being a little bit big for 9 people to finish. Our slices were cut in decent sizes but not to complete a whole cake though. This makes me wonder where the rest of the cake really is. When the check came, we found an additional $70 charge. When we asked the waiter what it was, it was a fee to cut the cake. There was no prior warning about this. We asked the manager and the manager said it's their "cake cutting policy" and can do nothing about it and walked away (so misleading!!). I totally agree with other yelpers saying customer service is horrible! I won't be coming back here to eat ever again!

Yelp
Authentic, delicious Italian food on the UES with great outdoor seating options and friendly waiters. The tomato dip that comes with the complimentary bread is outstanding. Would definitely recommend Bottega over some of the stuck-up and overrated options on the UES.
google avatar

Lucia V.

Yelp
I had a quick lunch in this very nice Italian place. The food and service were great and I'll highly recommend and try it again.
google avatar

Roe P.

Yelp
So where to start... don't know his name, but there is a bald Venezuelan waiter in there that I just had to yelp! Extremely attentive, so fast, very accommodating goes above and beyond and don't miss a beat! If every restaurant had a waiter like this they would be a success! Food was great and the ambiance of the restaurant is cozy and inviting! Definitely see him for excellence service!
google avatar

Zachary A.

Yelp
This review is for 3.5 stars. Very Italian but think very approachable Tuscany. Wine by the glass for house is under $5 and a typical menu of pastas and cheeses available. Had the gnocchi with veggies and found it very suitable which is to say your local Italian food. Might be homemade, but either way tasted good and was full by the end. Complimentary bread and slow service, similar to a real Italian dining experience. Not much to say other than this is Italian food with outdoor seating that is good enough to eat, but not quite recommend, especially given its tough location in upper east side.
google avatar

LaiSun K.

Yelp
The food was excellent, the place a little too dark and noisy and the wait staff was not attentive but efficient. Three of us had dinner here on a Thursday night. They were quite busy but found us a table anyway. We all had fish entrees; salmon, swordfish and striped bass. For dessert we had sorbet. I enjoyed my striped bass very much as it was cooked just the way I like it- crispy skin with tender sweet fillet. The side of white beans and tomatoes and string beans were very good and complimented the fish perfectly. I did not try the other mains enough to give my assessment but my dining companions loved their meal. I don't mind coming back in the future as the food was really good.

Ralph M.

Yelp
First time visit and sat outside. Had very nice caprese salad to start and an excellent calamari main course. My son had the linguini with clams which had decent amount of clams. My spouse had the chicken with sausage and mushrooms that she thought was very good. Very busy place, decent service. We expect to return.
google avatar

Edona D.

Yelp
From A-Z everything was excellent, from the entrance the manager walked us to the table and i asked him if they have Alfredo sauce and branzino because i didn't see it on the menu and he told me yes, same time he told the waiter to make sure that he tells us the same. The service was great and on time for everything. Food came to our table very very fast even though we had hot appetizers. we will deffinetly be back!

Yelp
Our dinner for 6 celebrating a special occasion at Bottega this Saturday was totally ruined... by Bottega. For visitors: many restaurants in NYC have a 2-hour window policy on busy nights, i.e., get in and out in 2 hours so we can turn over the table. It's New York... it's always about the benjamins. I get it. But many restaurants are fully transparent about time slots when reserving online or on the phone, giving you the option of swallowing this (customer-hostile) policy or not. Not the case with Bottega, whose waiters and manager (!) asked us to order no fewer than 5 times in a 10 minute period, even hovering over our table and explicitly telling us we needed to leave before it got busy. We were the first customers in an empty restaurant at 5pm and throughout the entire evening, one or more tables for six were open except for a 15-minute period... it got busy but there was never a line at the door. I'll add that we were a table of 6 women ranging in age from 13 to 80. I am 100% certain that we would have been treated very differently had a man been at the table (yeah, this happens). I'm sure they feared we were "tourists" (we're local) who wouldn't spend or tip enough to make it worth their while ($500+), so the risk of harassing us out of Bottega was probably low in their mind. If you think this is completely reasonable treatment when you're dropping $500, have at it, the food is good and the ambiance is nice at Bottega. But this a ridiculous way to run a business by people who should know better. There are great restaurants in New York (and please, Italian? dozens and dozens) who balance their fully understandable need to turn a profit with the actual purpose of providing a wonderful meal and customer experience. Not this place.

Yelp
Came here from out of town. Great little Italian place. I got pasta with shrimp and sun dried tomatoes. It was very good. The service was good but they rushed us out, even when no one was waiting.

G L.

Yelp
Stopped in for afternoon tea. I asked to sit at a table under the awning as it was about to start raining. All tables under awning were four tops so they said no and I had to leave. I'm 8 months pregnant. It was 3:20pm. Restaurant not full I said I would stay for only 20 minutes. Spoke to manager he said no.

Eugene W.

Yelp
i'd never go back to this place the swordfish was not fresh but obviously frozen and caesar salad was not up to its name the waiter gives the specials but never quotes the pricing on the dishes surprise surprise when you get the bill

Yelp
I was here once with my clients and waiter was attentive! Tonight's dinner is a birthday celebration. The waiter and manager were very attentive. They served out food warm and perfect. The waiter was excellent and our table was situated in the best area in the restaurant. I am rating this 5 star because on 2 occasions that I was there was excellent and I can't ask for anything else. I had the octopus to start and it's tender and delicious! Branzino for entree is to die for. I will definitely come back again.
