The Best Montreal Caribbean Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"Sometimes known as “Mr. Spicee” or just “Spicee’s”, this may be some of the city’s best value food, period. Grab the doubles — the slightly messy flatbread sandwich filled with Trinidadian curry, a Spicee staple." - JP Karwacki

I've been going there for 40 years, and I still enjoy their boneless chicken roti.

Visited here on a return trip with my 14yr old to show him my go to spot for patties and Rock cake back in the 90's. Sadly though the patties aren't the same anymore but I'm happy to say the rock cake is just as good as I remember, you can still smell the aroma of them baking in back of the store just like I remember as a kid growing up. This is a must stop for me to grab a few packs of rock cake to take back to Toronto.

When I was a kid, I lived behind Mr. Spicee. Use to go to the back and Chana would put me to work with the rock cake( coconut 🥥 bread) or the Patties. I love hanging out with them. When I come back to town to see my friends and family, I will always make an effort to stop by. Btw, they have vegetarian options also. Other place have opened since then, but the number 1# place to get a rotie, Jamaican pattie or rock cakes are @ Mr. Spicee. Not even worth to go anywhere else. Same warm smiles and the best / fresh food you can buy.

Pattie’s are trash bought 2 dozen since I remember them being amazing when my father would take me in the early 2000s and I was very dissapointed taste is off as well as there’s barely any filling

I used to go to Maison du Cari. Sometimes the food was dry and since I saw 2 ants in my plate I banished this restaurant for eternity. Someone told me to go to Spicee instead. I never regretted. Clean and fresh food all the time.

The Jamaican patties are terrible but the rock cakes are great. Go for the rock cakes but do not get the patties.

Always a pleasant experience. The patties are awesome - I don't know anywhere else in the city that makes them as good as this place. The quality and pricing of the patties is excellent. The staff there (the owner?) is extremely kind and helpful, and willing to chat.

Best roti in town, the goat roti is to die for the Jamaican Patty is so flaky and delicious would 100% recommend this place for good West Indian food. LOVE THIS PLACE, they only take cash just to give you a heads up and closed on Sunday.

Yelp
Small hole in the wall with fresh Caribbean food. I had the goat roti, which consisted of a thin flatbread (roti) wrapped around a goat/potato curry. It was very filling and the ratio of goat meat to potatoes was good. IMO it could have been a bit spicier, though. The place is take out only, but there is a nice park close by that has plenty of picnic tables, along with some pretty good people watching.

Yelp
Best Goat (sans bones) I've eaten in a very long time. Delicate pastry and incredible filling. Great price.

Yelp
a.k.a. Mister Spicee, a.k.a. Spicee's Thirty+ years in the business and still one of Montreal's greatest hidden treasures. Quite simply my favorite Trini hole-in-the-wall bakery/take-out joint in--and probably my favorite West Indian of any stripe--in Montreal. The menu is short and sweet, but cheap eats don't get any cheaper or better. Mister Spicee does a brisk trade in rotis, but, in my opinion, their house-made patties and phenomenal doubles are the standouts. Make sure to request hot sauce and tamarind sauce when you place your doubles order. Never had doubles? Order the chicken and chickpeas double and you get a heap of fresh, shredded chicken curried with chickpeas, sandwiched between a couple of steaming hot flatbreads, and slathered with the two house sauces. Sure, it's a little on the messy side, but, man, is it ever sensational. Accompany with ginger beer. Repeat as needed.

Yelp
small little take out place, we were served by a very friendly woman and the food was Really good ! I had the potato and channa roti and my husband got the goat roti, We also had some doubles and everything was delicious, will definitely go back !
