Best Restaurants in Hastings and St Leonards: East Sussex Travel Guide | Eater London

"Cafes and bookstores don’t seem like an unusual pairing: see the nearby Hanushka, also on George Street. But a Thai restaurant — with co-owner June using the Thai home recipes she grew up with — and bookstore hybrid is particularly rare, which is why this is the only one in Europe, possibly the world. It’s no gimmick. The tiny joint has about three tables, so making a reservation is smart, and the bookstore is only open when dinner is, so there’s no non-dining foot traffic. Chef June pairs chicken with green curry, pork with red, and beef with panang, according to what she thinks is best. Dishes like chicken stir-fried with pineapples, the presence of krachai root — a kind of ginger slightly more medicinal in taste — and the accompaniment of dried chilli, meant to be crushed over food, bring far-from-home vibes, a gap bridged by taste. This is very good Thai food." - Nikkitha Bakshani

Authentic Thai food with a warm & welcoming atmosphere. Recommend the Chicken Satay & Massaman Beef; both fall apart tender, you can taste the time and effort put in for sure! So easy to walk past this little gem of a place with so much character. Had a young waiter on his first day and he did a wonderful job! Maybe only thing missing was some quiet music to play in the background, but other then that, A*! (cash only)

Best Thai food I've had outside of Thailand. I had the mango salad and tofu massaman. Both absolutely delicious. Lovely staff and perfect setting. I went on a quiet Tuesday evening but I'm sure when it's busy it only adds to the experience.

The Boulevard Bookshop and Thai Café in Hastings offers a truly unique experience by seamlessly blending the worlds of literature and cuisine. Here's what makes it so special: During the day, it operates as a traditional bookshop, with shelves overflowing with a diverse collection of books, from classic literature to contemporary fiction and non-fiction. In the evenings, the space transforms into a cozy and intimate Thai restaurant. The bookshelves become the backdrop for a unique dining experience. The café has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with soft lighting and the comforting presence of books creating a relaxing environment. The combination of books and Thai cuisine gives the place a quirky and unique charm that sets it apart from typical restaurants or cafes. The café serves delicious and authentic Thai dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and traditional recipes. You get to enjoy your meal surrounded by books, creating a truly unique and stimulating dining experience. The café operates on a cash-only basis, adding to its old-fashioned charm. Due to the limited space within the bookshop, seating is limited, creating an intimate and exclusive feel. Overall, the Boulevard Bookshop and Thai Café offers a one-of-a-kind experience that appeals to book lovers and food enthusiasts alike. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in the world of literature while savoring delicious Thai cuisine in a charming and intimate setting.

Absolutely incredible food in an incredibly quirky setting. Food was fresh and service was quick. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I'm a fussy eater and don't like spicy food so loved that I could choose how hot I wanted my meal, from mild, medium, hot or Thai hot. Couldn't fault a thing!

The food was delicious and the service from the waitresses was genuinely lovely. However, I was quite surprised when the bill came to £70 for two people. We only drank water, and the only upgrade was choosing prawns over the standard meat option. While the experience was enjoyable, the price felt quite steep considering the location and setting

What a great little place. Feels a bit like a hidden gem despite it being on the main stretch. The best thai food i’ve had outside of Thailand. Was lovely to chat to the owners too at the end, what a fantastic experience they have created!

We visited this place many years ago when it first opened and it was good food reasonably priced went back . Miserableowner sitting out the front enough to put anybody off going in there. When we asked about books for sale, no interest in helping us find the categoryFood was a great disappointment. Minimum charge 25 pounder headAbsolute rip off £2 per person for corkage, £2 for ice. I had a Thai salad for a starter which consisted of grated carrot peanuts supposed to be prawns were tiny little shrimps and a lettuce leaf. A tiny bowl of soup with the other starter service charge On top definitely won’t be visiting again and would not recommend it not all it’s typed up to be at all
