"Welcome to the bakery and stone mill on the edge of town that creates such gorgeous breads and pastries that James Beard Award winner Ashley Christensen would call them “so damn good.” The goods are baked with organic, heirloom and locally sourced grains, from the seeded levain (studded with flax, sesame and sunflower seeds) to the croissants and pastries graced with seasonal fruits and vegetables. There’s seating to accommodate the sudden, pre-brunch cravings as well. Opt for a picnic table on the patio." - Katie Toussaint

I feel so fortunate to live locally to Boulted Bread, it’s one of my favorite places. their treats are delicious and made fresh, their staff are lovely and welcoming, and the coffee is always great. be prepared for a line in the morning on weekends (it’s worth the wait). if you get there a little later in the morning, you’ll be able to get the focaccia which has a different flavor each week and always hits the spot.

Google
Hands down to one of the best bakeries I've been able to try in the US. Everything was well balanced, not too sweet, nor greasy. Nice Textures overall with some clever ingredients combinations. Everything I've tried was tasteful, including the egg tarts (and I was surprised to find them here). I'll definitely have to come back.

Google
There may be a better bakery in Raleigh. But I sure haven’t found it! Fantastic bread, pastries, baguettes, you name it. Morning Buns are world class! A truly exceptional spot.

Allison Wyant

Google
I really need you to ship to us :) we visited yesterday for the first time. My daughter and I were visiting colleges. We shared a chocolate croissant and the spinach and onion focaccia. Amazing is an understatement! We also got a couple coffees and they were also delicious! We live about 3 hours away so it’s not crazy far BUT I wish I could come there every weekend! The staff was also very friendly and welcoming.

Google
What a FABULOUS selection of breakfast pastries! We stopped by to pick up an assortment for a morning meeting and could barely choose as everything looked so good. The croissants in particular are amazing, and the tahini latte was a delightful surprise. Highly recommend!

Google
Items are hit or miss I did love the everything croissant. the morning bun was fresh and amazing as well however the pull apart barely had any filling the ham and cheese croissant was mediocre and I wasn't a fan of the loaf of bread or drip coffee I will say all items are fresh staff is very attentive and friendly it was a bit on the expensive side and I guess you just have to know what to get here

Jorge Gutierrez

Google
Read a lot of great things about this bakery online and decided to visit, it did not disappoint. The chocolate croissants are closer to what I've tasted in Europe than anywhere else I've tried here. We also got a chocolate chip cookie that the kids loved, and a load of ciabatta that probably didn't make it an hour before we got home.

Annika Shi

Google
Definitely incomparable to croissants in Paris (you can see some parts are still kinda raw and not fermented enough) But, 100% top tier bakery in the area and uses good ingredients. Might have to wait in line over the wknd

Rick P.

Yelp
Best Bakery in town. Maybe anywhere. They make awesome everything. Weekends are the best in that they make awesome variety of rotating goodies.

Robert M.

Yelp
To all the Baker's at Boulted Bread - PERFECTION! You have paid your dues well and your beautiful breads and pastries tell the story. Rye is a very difficult flour to deal with in a 100% loaf. It has no gluten and is quite unruly to work and shape. Boulted would make the German's stand at attention. The service here is wonderful and the management cares. Thank you for being in Raleigh. Thank you, very much.

Tracy P.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the croissant here! The croissant had the layers and was crisp to perfection! Eating it fresh was delicious and even saving some for later it was still crispy! I went to a few bakeries while visiting and this is made the biggest impression! I would definitely recommend this bakery!

Brian L.

Yelp
No need to travel to France, Boulted Bread has the best croissants you will find and a wide variety of flavors. I was incredibly surprised by how great the croissants tasted. Each one was light and had a very delicate texture. The flavors that we tried all tasted incredible, most notably the everything croissant. Their wide selection of both sweet and savory ensures that whatever you are craving, there will be a croissant for it. Overall fantastic experience, will definitely be back for more.

Gab G.

Yelp
Boulted remains perfect. Returned at 10:07 AM on a Sunday and the line was out the door, but it moved fast and we had everything in hand by 10:23: + Morning bun + Ham and cheese croissant + Rhubarb jam pinwheel + Quiche + Brownie + Iced coffee + Blueberry crumble pie + Oatmeal cookie + Chocolate chip cookie + Special loaf (whole wheat levain) Standouts this time were the ham and cheese croissant, rhubarb jam pinwheel, morning bun, brownie, oatmeal cookie and iced coffee (they brew Counter Culture). Quiche and blueberry crumble pie were also fantastic. The bread was good, but I'd try a different kind next time. 5 stars forever.

Janel L.

Yelp
Don't let the line intimidate you, it moves very quickly! We came at peak breakfast hour on a Sunday morning and even though the line was out the door, it only took us about 15-20 minutes to get in to order. I'm a savory breakfast and croissant fan so I went for the Everything croissant, French Onion croissant and the Ham and Cheese. The employees are also incredibly friendly! Needless to say, everything was FANTASTIC. In my opinion, they make the best croissants in the Triangle. Fluffy, airy, buttery, flaky, all the good things. The Everything was sensational, stuffed with an herb cream cheese mixture that is to die for. The ham and cheese is a classic and was my favorite, I wish I had gotten another. The french onion was umami goodness. One of my new favorite bakeries in the area and I'm happy to make the 30+ minute drive from Durham every time.

Hannah L.

Yelp
As a savory pastry lover - they have a beet, pistachio, honey, and hummus danish that is to-die-for. Would return just for that! The indoor aesthetic is also unique, hip, and eclectic.

Anousone K.

Yelp
Met my sweet friend for coffee and ended in a wonderful conversation with strangers. This was my first time at the new location, conveniently located in the Boylan neighborhood, the parking is precarious with tight parking on a gravel lot but very close by. My friend suggested lattes and croissants and both were very delicious. There weren't a ton of tables so we waited a bit and noticed others waiting so we ended up sharing a table which was quite wonderful meeting new friends. Such a great community spot for coffee and maybe a place to work remotely.

Bjorn t.

Yelp
Amazing spot with great bread, pastries and coffee. They also mill their own flour and use local beans from counter culture. A litttttle too buzzing to work, but perfect for sending emails and a friend catch up.

Glenn C.

Yelp
Get in here and carbo load! All kinds of treats, we tried the sweet potato bread, the plain croissants, and a loaf of bread. Everything was as good as the reviews said it was! Delicious!!

Karen B.

Yelp
Great place for pastries and bread. If you go on the weekend expect a line but it's worth the wait.

Andrew L.

Yelp
Amazing coffee and croissant The order: blue berry jam croissant & iced coffee The good: -very fast to grab and go -lines are quick -croissant is very flaky & jam is excellent The bad: -It's not exactly walkable from downtown -lines can extend -inside is very warm and AC is lacking -lots of space for seating inside

Lucky P.

Yelp
Good pastry abit too baked but the flavor and taste good. Came early in the AM before opening and the line was formed in fronts. Define a good stop if you are in town and want to see a nice bakery and try their breads

Dana R.

Yelp
Don't let the line scare you. It goes quickly. A few of us chose this spot for breakfast last week. We couldn't decide what we wanted so we selected several things and shared. Everything was amazing. Except the bread pudding thing. That would've been better warm. The eggyness of it was off putting. I also wish they had a larger variety of coffee drinks to choose from. The tables fill up quickly so people tend to hover waiting for patrons to finish and leave. So if you're ok with either vacating the premises right after you finish or having people give you the side eye for taking your time...that's a decision you'll need to make. Raleigh people tend to be very kind and patient so if you linger with your friends so be it. Definitely get the morning roll and the custard thing. Yum.

Sara C.

Yelp
Really delicious croissants and cappuccinos. I especially loved the little custard tart and the chocolate croissant had a lot of melty chocolate in it which you don't see a lot in chocolate croissants. Definitely will be back before I leave Raleigh to get some for the way home!

Liliana S.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by Boulted Bread on our way out of Raleigh. We were unsure of the place as it was behind a graffitied building and a neglected space, but it was so cute inside! It looks like everything is locally grown/made. My husband ordered a ham/cheese croissant with a mocha latte & I had a strawberry jam danish with an orange cream iced coffee. The food and drinks were immaculate- the quality of the food is definitely reflected in the price. I wish we had a Boulted Bread in Arizona because it was that good! The staff was friendly and offered several recommendations when I asked about their coffee & pastry selection. I highly recommend this place!!

Courtnay B.

Yelp
The pastries here are amazing! You can't go wrong with any of them. The morning bun is great and I really enjoyed a peach pastry. The new space they're in is much larger with room to dine-in. Highly recommend this spot!

Jazelle G.

Yelp
Amazing!! 10/10 amazing, everything we tried was so good! Also worlds best croissant. So buttery and flakey and amazing! It was a bit of a wait but worth it. I wish they had outside seating or stand up area outside. We ate the goodies using the hood of the car but the food was to die for! Stop by for sure.

Jarret S.

Yelp
What an awesome space! Everything looked delicious, just a little 'well done'. We tried a bialy which was OK and a chocolate croissant which was flaky and filled with chocolate. Definitely worth a visit.

Bruno G.

Yelp
My expectations might have been too high and/or I went too late in the day for fresh bakeries. The plain croissants were good looking but tasteless. I had a cinnamon bun. They gigantic, very dry, and were mostly tasting sugar. The coffee was not very strong. It feels more like a warehouse and the cafe is very small. I was in a rush and trusted the reviews. I was just not impressed.

Kayla H.

Yelp
An amazing bakery that I want to already go back to as I write this review. So much bread, so many delicious things to choose from! I've never been to their old location but this new location was nice and big and you're able to easily view all of their products and what they've made for that day. There are plenty of employees, so the line moved fairly quick. The croissants were some of the best I've had as they were perfectly flaky and had a great buttery taste. The options are pretty much endless but I love that they are unique, I can't wait to go back and try more!

Dale D.

Yelp
After a nine-year run on South Street in downtown Raleigh, N.C. award-winning Boulted Bread has moved into a larger warehouse space just around the corner at 328 Dupont Circle in the Boylan Heights neighborhood. They open today, May 19. I got a chance to visit earlier this week, and it is absolutely gorgeous - with an open, airy feel with plenty of indoor seating to take in all their yumminess! Their opening hours for the first few weeks will be Wednesday through Friday from 7-2 and Saturday and Sunday from 8-2. Congrats to owners Josh Bellamy and Sam Kirkpatrick and their entire crew! Best to follow along on Instagram here.

Jessica K.

Yelp
This place has such a good selection of croissants, breads, and pastries. I tried the raspberry pastry which had a little raspberry in the center of dough like a croissant. The plain croissant was also very good and big. I also got an iced mocha which was tasty. The line was out the door because the inside isn't that big. There is also limited seating, but my husband and I were able to get a table. Make sure to come hungry!

Linjie S.

Yelp
I like their Chocolate croissant. Ham and cheese way too salty. I will try more pastries from here.

Martin Q.

Yelp
The price is ok for a brunch, we paid 40$ for a bread for home, a Tartine with tomato and cheese on the top, the pepper jelly pastry and buttermilk tart and 2 coffees. No table service, only order and pay at the counter. Wish they had plates since we were eating there but they only give us takeout bags. The ambiance was calm and the playlist was amazing kind of indie music. Cool merch too. You have to give a taste! The nice thing is even on the end of afternoon they still had pastries for us to enjoy.

Haley C.

Yelp
One of the best croissants I've ever had! Very cute ambience. We also got the morning bun, cranberry croissant, and quiche.

Richard T.

Yelp
Stopped here while I was in North Carolina. They had recently just moved so it was still new. The place was large with a majority the space of the store used for the equipment. Not a bad thing, it's just the style of the place. I pick up some pastries which I didn't remember what they were but they were recommended by the worker. She was super nice and helpful with explaining what everything was and which was the most popular. The parking was a little bit of a pain because of all the construction going on, but overall it was a good experience. I'll have to check it out again when I'm in town.

Lori D.

Yelp
Stopped on the way to the St. Patrick's Day parade. Boy am I glad I did. The service was amazing. So many things to choose from! We got a little bit of everything and tried it while waiting for the parade to start. Chocolate and plain croissant, pinwheel with cranberry and apple, special quiche, and a cinnamon pull apart. Everything was so fresh and huge. My fav was the quiche. My son thought it was weird but that is because it was his first quiche. The chocolate croissant was of course amazing because it had Videri chocolate in it. I loved the pin wheel as well.

Jon V.

Yelp
We've found ourselves a gem in Raleigh. A delightful nook, with delicious creations and a line out the door. Worth the wait for a yummy morning everyone enjoyed. Plenty of seating and a warm atmosphere. Can't wait to return.

Dan S.

Yelp
Wife and I stopped in for pastry and cappuccino. Excellent! Took a baguette home. Perfect crusty baguette!

Rachel M.

Yelp
well call me a "peasant" , this place is an absolute heaven of warmth and delicious baked goods ! the staff has always been so friendly! the ambiance like their menu is a hub of warmth and good vibes! From savory to sweet each a decadent treat! the coffee pairs perfectly well! I've tried the chocolate chip cookie ; perfection , The morning bun was delightful and just the right amount of sweetness with a flakey finish! And the Brownie ( not there all the time so I had to try it immediately) , was so creamy and delicious!

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Update: went back two days in a row. Saturday morning there will be a short line. Best flaky croissant I've ever had! Love this place. Great neighborhood spot! I got a load of seeded bread, ham and cheese croissant, morning bun and an iced coffee. Prices were really reasonable for the quality!

Allan A.

Yelp
European style breads and pastries baked on premise. Also sell European flour in small bags.

Tammy M.

Yelp
Had been wanting to try Boulted Bread for a while. On this beautiful Saturday afternoon we were leaving an event at the Convention Center and decided to walk to Boulted and see what was up. It was close to 3 PM and I was seriously afraid they may be closed or sold out. It was quite a trek but so worth it !! We got the last 2 morning buns. I know one was for sure a morning bun. The other one may have been something slightly different. In either case, they were delicious !! The flaky crust reminded me of a croissant. I'm kinda glad we don't live closer. I would probably be 10 lbs heavier. Next time we will come earlier when there is a bigger assortment of yummy treats. The pics may not look that appetizing but they WERE !!!! Give them a try - you will be glad you did.

Yelp
**AMAZING BREADS AND BUNS IN BOYLAN HEIGHTS** Thanks to my friend, Carly, for introducing me to this excellent bakery! PARKING ======== Limited spots, but patience is key. BREADS ======= NORDIC RYE My German husband's favorite bread, and it's so legit here. Firm, balanced, and yet hearty, full-flavored. RATING: 5/5 LEVAIN Also another household favorite. I would eat this with cheeses at home for snacks. RATING: 5/5 OTHER ====== MORNING BUN This is insanely good. A touch of sweetness with fluffy texture. Fantastic coffee pairing. RATING: 5/5 I tried their croissants and I give it a solid 4/5. I love buttery and flaky Parisian style, and theirs are not quite there yet. I also tried their coffees and since we have an Italian espresso machine at home, it's not easy to beat. A good 4/5 for their cappuccino. OVERALL ======== I used to have a favorite bakery in Mordecai, but it has been overthrown by Boulted. Will go here for the breads and buns. RECOMMEND.

Thomas A.

Yelp
Best bread in Raleigh. Pastries are also always on point. Definitely recommend. It's pricey but well worth it.

Mel S.

Yelp
Fresh delicious bread and friendly service. Can be too crowded and noisy during peak hours and days. Because they are so popular and busy, hopefully they will have a bigger location and parking space

Adam N.

Yelp
My mom and stepdad took me here during a visit to NC, and I loved my coffee. Atmosphere is lovely -- reminded me of the chill, hipstery cafes in W-burg, Brooklyn. But this place is far more spacious.

Corey S.

Yelp
We had the sticky bread, and a croissant with jam. Both were really really good. I would recommend the sticky bun. We also had a coffee and that was thumbs up.

Marin J.

Yelp
Outstanding baked goods. Great vibe. Just those two sentences are all you need. Go early.

Holly K.

Yelp
Parking lot is small next to the bakery. Picked up a loaf of bread and Apricot Croissant this day. Everything smelled delicious and so hard not to walk away with more. Plus, we had plans to meet someone for coffee, so we didn't try any. No bathroom, so if you are on the road, out of luck. It is small and a place to pick up your food and go eat in your car. But what you get! 5 stars!!!!

Jenny S.

Yelp
So glad we made sure to stop by for some snacks as we were walking around town!! Would have come 2 days in a row if we had the time, the hubby opted for a savory quiche and I opted for the sweet option We made SUCH a mess eating our goodies as they both were so good & flaky!

Sandy G.

Yelp
Cute little spot. But make sure you head out there early, in order to score the different fresh and warm bread options. Coffee Options: Drip Coffee & Iced Coffee. I would loved it if they had espresso options to pair with their delicious pastry options. Their pastries and bread are delicious. We tried: -The Morning Bun: Delicious with hints of Orange Zest -Chocolate & Raspberry filled Pull apart Croissant: my favorite Pastry from this location so far. -Baguette: It was a bit burnt. But no biggie, it was still delicious! Can't wait to try more!

Rebecca O.

Yelp
The location was great! The staff were friendly. Most of the bakery was burned! We bought a sampling of many items that they made. We liked the star pastry with jam. We'd probably buy that again but I wouldn't go out of our way to stop there again.

Katelyn M.

Yelp
The workers are super friendly & the parking lot across the street is super confident! I like all the different seating options and my food and tea was great! I was expecting there to be more on the menu. Clean bathroom & great vibe! The music was a little loud in my opinion but everything else was great :) free wifi, you just have to ask!

Mitzi V.

Yelp
Currently there is a lot of construction going on and parking is a tad bit messy. But, parked up the hill and walked. The place was pleasantly packed and had a diner/bakery feel. Nice selection of item and I truly enjoyed the Blueberry Hibiscus Ice Tea! By the time I placed my order.. the line was out the door. I tried the Plain Croissant and the Raspberry Jam Croissant. Now, I'm not a fan of the type of croissants served... I prefer the light/airy croissant and these are heavy with great buttery, crispy texture and flavor- just a tad to heavy and flaky for my liking. I Would recommend and will go back to try other items. Customer service was fair... Felt rushed because of the amount of others in line and since this was my first time didn't really have the chance to take my time to select. I guess I could have just taking my time.. but, the individual helping me seemed rushed because of the line? Does that make since?

Thomas D.

Yelp
I've been to Boulted Bread twice now. Both times were excellent. I had the Blueberry Bread Pudding the first time and it was delicious. Today I tried the Everything Croissant, which has a cream cheese filling. The croissant was flaky, buttery, soft and chewy. There was also a perfect amount of the cream cheese filling to balance the saltiness of the croissant toppings. You would be hard pressed to find better croissants. And as a bonus, their black coffee is very well made. There is limited seating inside which is somewhat cramped, but that won't deter me from returning. I will be back many times.

William B.

Yelp
Says it's open, drove all the way here and it was closed at 2pm. Bad business Won't frequent anymore

Deb D.

Yelp
Amazing breads, lovingly crafted and beyond belief! Passionate folks providing unique products and excellent customer service. Such a gem!
