"Lo-fi and relaxed, Bourbon Sizzler, a Caribbean restaurant in the Medical Center, runs a steady takeout operation, so the dining room is mostly free for you to hunker down with a hearty meal, whether you come for a quick lunch or a much-needed comfort dinner. The best dishes here are the jerk chicken that’s coated in scotch bonnet, the oxtail with enough rice and peas to grab every drop of gravy, and a spicy beef patty that might make your eyes water. "The Bourbon Sizzler, a counter-service Caribbean restaurant, is a great place to melt the day away with spicy beef patties with flaky crusts, sweet brown stew chicken with rice and cabbage, and sweet ting soda. This is primarily a takeout operation, but there is a dining room that's mostly free for you to hunker down with a hearty meal. Keep this lo-fi spot in mind for a solo lunch or dinner after a long day. " - Gianni Greene, Chelsea Thomas

"While the Bourbon Sizzler, a Caribbean restaurant in the Medical Center, is modest, it’s also home to some of the most impressive braised oxtails we’ve ever had. The smoked, tender pieces of oxtails are good enough to stand on their own, but we love that they come with a mountain of rice and peas, and of course a pool of gravy. Hovel them to your heart’s content while you rest assured that there’ll be enough oxtails left over for at least another meal." - gianni greene

The food was sooooo delicious and flavorful. I love that they have vegetarian options. I ordered a plate with peas and rice, veggies, macaroni & cheese, fried plantain, and a side order of the jerk fries. I also had the Sunday special drink and that was good as well. The place only had a few people sitting at the bar and a couple people came and went so it isn't a super busy or packed place. Food was perfect, no complaints. I actually went here in place of another caribbean restaurant that happened to be closed that Sunday. I'm glad I've gave this place a chance. Will definitely be back whenever I'm on that side of town.

A few takeaways from our first & probably last visit... 1) Drinks.... The Long Islands had too much cola. I ordered 3 because everything else seemed really sweet. BUT... for $5 during Happy Hour, I can't really complain too much. And the bartender girl was sweet. 2) Food.... While the food was decently flavored (not delicious enough for me to go out of my way to return but not completely forgettable either), both our oxtails AND stewed chicken came out pretty much room temperature. I considered sending it back but didn't want to offend the chef (he happened to step out as we were ordered & he seems cool) so we just ate what we could & took the rest to heat properly at home. 3) "SERVICE CHARGE" ---- When I went to pay, the total seemed a little higher than it should have been so I asked to view the itemized & discovered there was a 10% "Service Charge" - when I inquired with our waiter, he informed me that charge automatically gets added to every ticket over $50. That makes ZERO sense to me - the more I buy, the higher my service charge??? What??? The service fee also made me tip our server 15% instead of my usual 20-25% which sucks for their staff. It's unfortunate because we passionately support local, minority owned businesses but I can't get over the tomfoolery of the theory behind that service fee. I was really hoping this could become a good watering hole for us to become regulars. Pro Tip: If my daughter & I ever do decide to return, we'll be paying separately to avoid the unnecessary foolishness of a service fee & will instead tip our server well.

As a born n bred J'aican, one knows real yaadctasting food it's impossible to achieve authentic j'aican taste in a J'aican restaurant kitchen, without having a j'aican cooking it!the taste of the food at the breakfast club is going to be different to j'aican food, bcuz one is American the other J'aican!2 totally different taste! I got a curry chicken recently!was so disappointed with the taste!glad I wasn't daft enough to get something like say tge Oxtail such a waste of $16, hate to review this way! however authentic is authentic, no if's buts/ maybe's.I recently moved to area, from sthwest, away from my go to J'aican home away from hm J'aican restaurant"LOVEBIRD in Sugarland which, this area is so lacking of good authenticJ'aican restaurants+I dont know what uber eats delivery did to the food! as I'm sure restaurant didn't dish it up like this! this will be last delivery through uber eats, their deliveries have just gotten worst n worst!! poor customer svc, as the drivers are very lacking in so many areas.🤨🙄😏

I Ordered the oxtail that came with Rice and cabbage. What I got was short rib with one or two oxtail, The plantains were burnt, and cabbage flavor less. I wouldn't recommend anyone go to this place.

We pick this place at random. We did not read any reviews before arriving. At first glance we were a bit skeptical. I honestly thought I walked into a bar. The place was also empty, so I have to admit I was a bit nervous. The atmosphere was a bit off-putting, nonetheless we ordered food. Then we went to read the reviews. 😑 I immediately felt we were making a bad choice. We even thought about just leaving. However, we wanted to give it a chance, and stayed. The food arrived in a timely fashion. In such a time that was not too long that it got frustrating, and not too fast that we thought the food was old or questionable. Instead we were given what you see in the photos I took. Curry chicken and Jerk chicken plates (small size). The food was hot, flavorful, and delicious! I was very surprised, having read some of the reviews. We were glad we stayed, and I would encourage you to take a leap of faith and try this place out. The place may give off a certain vibe, but the food is well worth it all. Especially the jerk chicken!!! Oh yea, I waited to write this several hours later to make sure i didn’t experience any post-lunch sickness - I know how some of y’all think! No issues. Again, the food is great.

If I could give a 3.8 star rating I would and here's why: * The jerk chicken was great seasoned well and not under or overcooked but I didn't understand them not having jerk wings available since it is a Caribbean restaurant but the chicken was good so a win is a win on that. * Rice and peas were fine and not over/uncooked either but thankfully I ordered oxtail gravy which literally made it amazing! * Plantains were top tier! Love a good sweet savory plantain and that made the meal not overall not so great because for the next one.. * Cabbage gave very much high blood pressure immediately. No exaggeration, it tasted as if they made the cabbage in saltwater literally. 0/10 for the cabbage without a doubt. * Price point was great for the amount of food received. * Delivery packaging could be much better (sticker, seal or even double knotting the bags for safety purposes).• I ordered from UberEats

Mannnnn! (in my Big Moe voice) If you have not been to this spot please do yourself a favor and go. My first time visiting and I am in love. I ordered curry chicken, cabbage, plantain, rice, and peas. It was freaking phenomenal. I finished my entire plate. I had 2 Hurricane drinks which were strong. Don't sleep on this place.

Ordered food door dash. I was craving it. The rice and peas were really good. Oxtails could have a little more kick. But other than that it’s good.
