The Best Dishes Eater LA Editors Ate This Week, April 2018 - Eater LA

"Often with steakhouses, more is more, but Bourbon Steak at Dana Point’s ritzy Monarch Beach Resort sees a bit of the “less is more” philosophy on some parts of their menu. That’s because their tableside Snake River Farms ribeye cap is a nice departure from the massive chops on the menu. Snake River Farms is known for their American wagyu-style beef, and the deeply rich and beefy steak gets a brief smoking in hay before it’s unveiled tableside. Each sliver is coated in a thin liquid tallow, and imbued with a hint of that hay smoke. Served with some caramelized fingerling potatoes and a savory peppercorn sauce, it’s a truly decadent way to enjoy steak without filling too much on beef." - Crystal Coser

Glendale’s Bourbon Steak Expands Its Meaty Offerings to Orange County - Eater LA

"Upscale Glendale meat parlor Bourbon Steak has expanded to Orange County, taking over at the Monarch Beach Resort. Don’t expect anything drastically different than the LA location, just butter-poached lobster and steak and whiskey. As for timing, the official opening date is today, and the restaurant will keep evening-only hours to start, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily." - Farley Elliott

I used to be a skeptic about those chain steak houses, believing they were overpriced and couldn’t cook steaks to perfection. However, I was pleasantly surprised this time. Every dish was delicious, and the steaks were cooked to perfection. The smoked ones were particularly delightful. The service was excellent, and we had a great time overall.

My husband and I came here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and from beginning to end it was fantastic. We were given a complimentary glass of sparkling wine to toast the occasion, which was a very nice touch. All of the staff are exceptionally nice and attentive. The food was delicious, particularly the truffle brioche roll, the wagyu petite filet and the crispy brussels sprouts. They have an extensive wine menu, with 800 different bottles to choose from and a generous cocktail menu as well, which can be made the “old school” or the “new school” way. I recommend the new school Bee’s Knees cocktail, especially if you like smoky drinks. All in all it was a stellar experience and was the perfect way to end the day. We will definitely be back to celebrate our next very special occasion.

Second time at this location and it was even better than I remembered! Excellent service and tried the special trio to share with wagyu rib cap that was some of the best I’ve had, ever. The caviar service was great to start but a lot of food and you need to be sharing. Highly recommend dinner here whether for a special occasion or just a nice night out.

I recently had dinner at Bourbon Steak in the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach, and it was excellent. The food was cooked to perfection, with every dish hitting the mark. Whether you're into steak or something else, the menu has great options, and everything I tried was spot on. The service was top-notch, with staff who were friendly and really knew their stuff. Plus, the wine list is fantastic—there’s something for everyone and plenty of great pairings. If you’re in the area or staying at the hotel, I highly recommend Bourbon Steak. It’s definitely worth a visit for a great meal and a great experience.

Bourbon Steak in the Monarch beach resort, Dana Point was beyond wonderful. The food is absolutely delicious and one of the best meals we have had in a long time. The experience, the food and the atmosphere was beyond what we were expecting. The wait staff and the maitre d at the restaurant were exceptional. If you have a chance to, please visit this restaurant. It is one of the best I have ever been to.

Bourbon Steak at the Monarch Beach Hotel offers an exceptional dining experience that beautifully combines stunning views with outstanding cuisine. The food is nothing short of delicious, with a menu that highlights perfectly cooked steaks and creative sides. The standout, however, is the banana soufflé—it's a must-try, light and flavorful, a perfect ending to a wonderful meal. The staff is incredibly attentive and friendly, enhancing the overall experience with their warm service. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Bourbon Steak is a culinary gem that should not be missed. Highly recommended.

We decided to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday here and I was very disappointed. For such a beautiful hotel, I was shocked that the restaurant was this bad. They made us wait 20 minutes before we could be seated (even though we had a reservation) and the food and service was awful. The steaks were poor quality, and the birthday boy had to send back his food. They also charged us over $220 in corkage fees for 2 bottles of champagne that we brought ourselves. I called the very next day to get an Itemized bill and it took them almost 2 weeks to get back to me. This was with me calling several times trying to get in touch with them. The manager Brian told me he was sorry, and would love to make it up to us and have us come back for a redo dinner on the house. A week later I call them to come in and Brian went back on his word, and told me they are willing to give us a corkage fee credit and there will be no complimentary dinner like he originally stated. The poor level of customer service for what is supposed to be a 5 star restaurant is a complete joke. Please save yourself time and Money and go elsewhere!

My husband and I had a wonderful time at Bourbon Steak Orange County. The atmosphere is classy and the restaurant itself is beautiful. There is a lot of attention to detail here and I certainly appreciate it. I had not been exposed to really good steak before, so we ordered the sample plate, and it was really fun trying all the different types of steak. I will say that my husband and I have decided that we aren't refined enough to appreciate a really expensive steak over a cheaper one, but it was still a great experience. Our favorite dish that we ordered was the truffle mac and cheese. It was THE BEST macaroni and cheese we have ever had. We also ordered some fabulous cocktails. They have a traditional cocktail menu and a less traditional one which is fun. During our dinner the waiter came out with a few small dishes that the chef was trying out and we really enjoyed that! I don't think we have had a similar experience anywhere else. Bourbon Steak's food is absolutely delicious, and the experience is absolutely worth the price! If you are staying at the Waldorf Astoria, or just in the area, definitely get a reservation at Bourbon Steak Orange County.

Yelp
After reading Chris D's recent detailed review, everything checked all the boxes in what my wife and I were craving for. We dined here yesterday evening, and we're absolutely amazed. The duck fat fries and condiments to start were perhaps the best fries we ever had. We then shared the soft shell crab appetizer, and it was very good. We met an old acquaintance we hadn't seen for about 8 years or so who is the acting Captain/Maitre D. We were blown away to see him and received a nice tableside preparation of their tuna tartar. It was so elegant and amazing My wife ordered the wagyu filet mignon and crab Oscar topping and I ordered the smoked rib eye cap with abutter poached lobster accompaniment based upon Chris's recent review. He had scallops with his, which I wanted, but they didn't have scallops last night. It was perhaps one of the best rib eyes I have had besides what I prepare myself at home. My wife's eyes twinkled on her first bite and said it just melted in her mouth. We ordered the broccolini and whipped potato sides, and they were wonderful. I forgot to mention we were also served those wonderful truffle butter injected rolls, which were amazeballs! You could see the flecks of black truffle inside after biting into them. I was starting to go into overload and had to stop because I needed the room for their Basque cheesecake that was on my bucket list to check off on. That was paired with their desert ice wine, which was also outstanding. The ambiance and the entire staff were wonderful and a well-oiled machine. Chef Michael Mina has a great restaurant here. A special shout out to Lyle and his Team for making our dining experience very special. We will be back and see you soon.

Yelp
Truly the most epic dining experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Was trying to find a place worthy enough for our 25th anniversary and took a chance on here. I could not have picked a better place. The best food (and most expensive) I have ever had. The atmosphere, views, service, food, and drink were truly on another level compared to any restaurant I've dined at. The restaurant is in the Waldorf Astoria. Valet is validated and will cost you $10 + tip which is not bad given the location. You walk in the door and you have a truly breathtaking view. Go past the hotel check-in and the restaurant is to the left. I was expected to be seated at some crappy 2 seater table but instead we were given the best table in the house with a panoramic view of the resort and pacific ocean. Along with our menus we were given two glasses of champagne for our anniversary. After placing our orders we were brought out a complimentary red pepper gazpacho served in a tiny coffee or tea cup. This tiny soup packed so much flavor I knew instantly we were going to have a great experience. Next we were brought out a complimentary trio of duck fat fries. Three difference seasonings with three dips. One was furikake, another was truffle, and the 3rd I wasn't sure. All three were super crispy and a flavor explosion. Manners will be thrown out because you'll be double dipping for all you're worth. For the last complimentary item they brought out their brioche roll injected with truffle butter. It had the texture of a yeast donut. It was effing mind blowing. No truffle oil here, you got black specks of truffle oozing out of this masterpiece. Again, you'll abandon your manners as you suck the butter off your fingers. Next we had their "Instant Bacon" which was braised pork belly, brussels sprouts hash, tempura oyster, and bourbon-soy glaze. It was covered when it arrived and when they lifted the lid a wonderful wood smoke aroma wafted around us. Every bite was moan inducing and we both loved it. My wife ordered the filet mignon topped with blue cheese. It was a la carte so we ordered some sautéed mushrooms and their fingerling potatoes to share. The steak was cooked to perfection and she really enjoyed it. She said next time she would get the truffle butter as a topper instead. I was going to order the same thing until they read off the specials of the night. I got the smoked wagyu ribeye cap which came with smoked shitake mushrooms and purple mashed potatoes. Then he said the price...... I hesitated but then said inside my head "YOLO.... eff it". They brought out a glass dome filled with smoke. They removed the dome and my meal was unveiled in a taste bud watering smoky aroma. Every single bite was literally the best tasting steak I have ever had. And the smoke wasn't for gimmick, it was totally infused into the food. Every few seconds I kept saying "oh my god, this is soo good... how is this so good?" To keep with the YOLO theme we also added Hokkaido scallops to our entrees which were astronomically priced but also out of this world delicious. The only negative of the night was the fingerling potatoes covered in cheddar cheese and bacon. They did not live up to the standards of the other dishes. Tiny minuscule amount of bacon bit style bacon and some runny flavorless cheese. Neither of us cared for it. The mushrooms though were perfect. Both huge portions and honestly one side was enough for two people. We brought half of it home. They have a lot of entrees served tableside too such as a whole chicken and whole lobster pot pie. They also had some tableside cocktails. Several seafood options too. For drinks I had their "new world" Manhattan rye whiskey, cognac, carpano antica, cynar amaro, and chocolate bitters. Like a broken record I kept declaring "this is so good". By the end of the meal I had to try their old school New York sour using Metallica's Blackened Whiskey. The cocktails are expensive but I was so sh*t faced after my two drinks we sat around the hotel after and looked at the view for an hour. Donna had the "Bees Knees" and some odd yet delicious drink made with carrot juice. By now we felt like we were going to die but I saw pictures on yelp of their Basque cheesecake. This golden brown baked cheesecake with a brulee crust was in a league of its own. They also brought us out a free chocolate mouse like dessert that was the richest thing ever. Speaking of rich... man, that was some bill BUT it was worth every penny to give us the absolute perfect 25th anniversary. We will definitely be back. The portions are large and they have plenty of sharable items so you can eat here without going as crazy as we did.

Yelp
When my boyfriend and I first arrived to the resort, we were excited to see there was a steakhouse restaurant on the property. We were able to make a reservation with the help of calling the concierge at the resort, which I highly recommend doing to get seated right away. We were able to get a table outside, which was perfect for seeing the sunset during dinner. To start off the meal, the waitstaff brought out a complimentary beet soup and duck fat fries with a trio of dipping sauces. The beet soup was very tasty and the fries were very crispy and delicious. Another complimentary item we were provided was the brioche roll stuffed with black truffle butter. The brioche was hot and fluffy, and the black truffle butter was one of the best things I've tasted. When one of the waitstaff came by to ask our thoughts on the brioche, we let him know it was delicious but eaten too quickly. He let us know that they were unlimited and would be happy to bring us out another. To which we responded "oh no, don't tell us that!" But of course we accepted a second one because it was that good! By the time our entrees appeared we were already full! The 16 oz ribeye was ordered medium rare and it was cooked well and tasted great. The 8 oz filet mignon was ordered medium, and it was very tender, but I do wish I had asked for medium rare. The trio of sauces we ordered for the meats were the creamy horseradish, the bernaise, and the chimichurri. All three of them were delicious and paired really well with both meats. The black truffle mac and cheese was also very tasty and was the perfect size for the two of us to share. Overall, the service, the ambiance, and the food quality were amazing and definitely worth the steep prices. If we had the opportunity to stay at this resort again, we would definitely make another reservation.

Yelp
Must dine here if in the area! Had a staycation in Laguna Niguel and picked Bourbon Steak for my birthday dinner. The trio sampler of fries was unique and delicious! Not too long after, the rolls with truffle butter were brought out. I'm not a huge truffle fan but the soft rolls oozing with the melted truffle butter was mouthwatering without being too overpowering. Everything we ordered was delicious: -crab stuffed soft shell crab -28 oz prime porterhouse -michael mina's miso-broiled sea bass -baby broccolini with chili garlic crunch Lyle the maître d' stopped by our table to wish me a happy birthday which was very thoughtful

Yelp
When dining in at Bourbon Steak Orange County, you are in for a real treat. The restaurant is located just to the left when entering the hotel lobby of Waldorf Astoria Monarch - Dana Point. We had an 8 pm reservation, being sat at a table that wasn't our favorite, not much of an ocean view unless you were on the outside balcony. We have an amazing dining experience from start to finish. The service and staff were amazing! Melissa, our waitress, is extremely professional and knowledgeable! If I could give more than 5 stars to her, I would. The food presentation and flavor were great. Wagyu beef is highly recommended. This is a place to go any time you want a great steak paired with excellent service. Not cheap but worth it.

Yelp
Top-notch service, and mouth-watering food. Definitely a splurge, but will dream of that truffle butter brioche.

Yelp
Great place for a whiskey lover! Great ambiance when you walk in and the restaurant is in a hotel by the beach so you can watch the sunset or the ocean. And they give you all these complimentary starters, we had a tomato bisque aperitif and then duck fat fries and this amazing garlic brioche bread. We had the chefs special steak trio with wagyu and delmonico. Truffle Mac and soufflé were awesome. All the food and drinks were great!

Our waiter was absolutely unbelievable, explained everything on the menu. We ordered severals appetizers and meals. Everything was so tasty, delicious, presentation was amazing. Drinks were on point. I have no complaints whatsoever. Of course we will be back

Yelp
This is definitely an upscale Steakhouse. Food was outstanding! Every dish delicious, the rib eye cooked perfect, the fries just how I like them and the shrimp cocktail and the scallops my favorite ones. Very attentive service and the ambiance is elegant.

Yelp
Gorgeous ocean views - ideal for dinner at sunset. Friendly, attentive staff. The lobster pot pie is the thing to get.

Yelp
This restaurant was an 11 out of 10. Service and commitment to satisfying my needs and respecting my dietary restrictions were impeccable. They do also have vegan menu options that apparently change. I had the vegan mushroom risotto and it was a great portion i did not finish it and so delicious. I also had the quinoa salad which was so beautifully plated. I cannot wait to go back i have absolutely no complaints and highly recommend this restaurant and hotel. The ambiance was nice it was fully booked on a Sunday crowd seemed a bit older and more family centric so I'd like to experience restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night.

Yelp
The setting of this restaurant, especially from an outdoor table, is spectacular! It overlooks the resort's pool area, golf course and the Pacific Ocean. We were there for sunset, which made it even more spectacular. But, restaurants, especially high-end ones like Bourbon, need to have spectacular food. That's where the restaurant let us down a bit. I had the filet with a horseradish crust. It was fine, but not $82 fine. My wife's salmon was also fine, but nothing extraordinary. The desserts were very good, but not great. We enjoyed the Basque Cheesecake the most. Service was great, as you would expect from an upscale steakhouse. And, all guests get some surprise goodies, including a little bag of caramel popcorn at the end of the meal. While there are very few restaurants with the ambiance of Bourbon, we will probably not return because there are other steakhouses, like Mastro's or Flemings, with more exceptional food.

Yelp
We decided to come back to bourbon steakhouse for the holidays and we are so glad we did what a special time of year to have dinner at such a wonderful restaurant.. of course they do their wonderful amuse- bouche offerings a gorgeous tomato bisque, a flight of duck fat fries, We had such a flavorful ribeye steak with broccolini perfectly cooked . we also had the miso cod. Again, perfectly prepared.. My favorite part of the evening was being sat at a table that wasn't our favorite , so we asked them to move us. and they did with pleasure. Unfortunately it was to a table that had flickering lights. They noticed that we were not happy with this new table so they came over and said we have a beautiful booth for you available. The service at Bourbon steak is like no other. It is the quintessential perfect experience that you would expect from a five star restaurant? We ended the evening with a plate of delectable beignets . And of course they offered us the dark chocolate sea salt caramels. So delicious. Happy holidays to everyone.

Yelp
We had a wonderful graduation celebration with amazing food, impeccable service in a beautiful setting. We will be back.

Yelp
Bourbon steak house in located in the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Dana point Beach. This restaurant is now my absolute favorite restaurant that Orange County has to offer. I've had the pleasure of dining at every high end restaurant in Orange County and let me tell you this place is truly #1. Their service is amazing, there chef would constantly be serving us little small dishes he would decide to create at that moment which was so delightful. Yes the pricing here was very expensive how ever there is a reason why they charge what they charge. To many restaurants in OC charge outrageous amounts and the service/food quality is always lacking. Every single food item I ordered was 10/10. I will be coming back as soon as I can! If you want a top tier steakhouse in OC this is your place. Cheers,
google avatar

Tabisky C.

Yelp
The food and service were average. For a high end restaurant in a prestigious hotel setting, I would expect that there is a dress code. There were a number of people dressed in jeans and tennis shoes. I observed one man wearing an unbuttoned shirt over his undershirt. I noticed that the tables and chairs had their full share of life. A tablecloth would at least hide the watermarks and scratches. The noise factor increased as more patrons filled the restaurant. Although it was a nice touch to receive complimentary fries and bread, we doubt we'll be back again.

Yelp
Mastro's Ocean Club who?? After dinning at Bourbon steak I know where I will be going to celebrate special occasions, or just splurge on a meal. From making the reservation (the women who took the reservation spent time telling me about the restaurant and ideas of what to order) to getting the check this was an exceptional experience. We had a 5:30 reservation and were warming greeted and was brought to a table right by the window. Shortly after being seated our server Taylor greeted us and gave us suggestions of what was on the menu and took our drink orders. The other staff members who cleared the table, brought us the food were professional and you could tell how well they were trained. We started our fantastic dinner with the Mina special Ahi Tuna Tartare and a split BLT Wedge. The Tuna Tartare came separated and mixed into a tasty full of flavor app while the wedge was as expected, perfectly made. And along came the fries!!! Three different flavors with three different dipping sauces, making different combinations was so fun and delicious. And let's not forget the dinner roll. Perhaps the best dinner roll/bread I have every had in a restaurant. Truffle butter spread over the top of the roll and a pocket of truffle butter inside the roll. I had to have another one and should have found out if I could get a dozen to go. For our mains I ordered the 8oz Angus Filet while my friend ordered the Wagyu 6oz Filet, with sides of Charred Asparagus, charred Cauliflower and Whipped Potato Puree (as a suggestion of Taylor). The steaks, my Angus was cooked perfectly to a medium rare, so tender that the knife cut through with barely any pressure, my friend's Wagyu the same. I forgot to taste the Wagyu so I can't comment of the difference for the price. Each side was so good and we loved the potato puree, so smooth and a great complement to the steaks. We declined desserts as we were so full from this memorable meal and to our surprise Taylor brought over a cheesecake (comped) (with a candle) as she overheard that it was my friend's birthday. The Cheesecake would rival anything out of the kitchen at Junior's in NYC. Again this was a 20 out of 10 dinning experience without any faults. Even the GM Paul, came over to say hello and make sure everything was ok.

Yelp
Visiting OC to catch up with an old friend, he took me to Bourbon Steak for dinner because he knows how much I love a good steak. Our dining experience was excellent from end to end! The ambiance was elegant and classy, our server was attentive and helpful; he gave several spot-on recommendations, and obviously knew the menu backwards and forwards. Tip: The sunset view from the patio is nothing short of spectacular! We started the meal with their complimentary fries. These perfectly fried Bad Boys are instantly addictive, and accompanied by three different types of dipping sauce. They also served some complimentary truffle butter bread, which is insanely good, and even more addictive than the fries ;-) Next, we shared the truffle Mac and Cheese, which was rich, comforting, delicious, and decently decent. For our entrees, we each enjoyed the Filet Mignon; it was cooked to perfectly, wonderfully well seasoned, and so tender we almost didn't need steak knives. About my only complaint was that I didn't take the time to hit the gym that afternoon, so my appetite couldn't do all that amazing food the justice it deserved - I guess I'll just have to come back the next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
Lovely restaurant in a beautiful hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful and redid a cocktail and made it perfect. Food was delicious of course. The soufflé was so good but I think some of it must had deflated inside lol there was barely anything. Dislike the restroom being so far outside the restaurant. Overall another solid restaurant by Chef Mina.

Yelp
By far one of the best dinning experiences that I had in 2023. I want to thank Keonwoo at Waldorf for setting up the amazing dinner experience. I came to Bourbon Steak to celebrate my engagement and everything was fantastic. The whole staff was very professional and polite. Even the restaurant manager came out to congratulate us and offered Champaign to celebrate. All the complementary dishes by the chef were extremely delicious and the food we got was on point. The new style Old Fashioned was one of the best drinks I had. The vibe of the restaurant was perfect. Classy yet modern. Dark and intimate but bright enough to enjoy dinner and your surrounding. I will be coming back here to dine again. Thank you to Bourbon and Waldorf Astoria staff for setting up a great experience to celebrate a wonderful occasion.

Yelp
I came back again for the 4th time now and brought some people who have never been. All the food was delicious and the service was on point. I always get the filet because I prefer lean meat but for those who like marbling go with the ribeye. Highly recommend this place for those who enjoy fine dining steak houses.
google avatar

Max G.

Yelp
While the ambience and vibes of the restaurant were delightful, and the view and lighting created a spectacular atmosphere, I was left a bit underwhelmed by the food. Despite the chef's thoughtful gesture of sending out several samplers, the gnocchi with truffles, part of the special, did not quite meet the expectations I had for the price. I hoped for a more memorable culinary experience given the overall ambiance and attention to detail.

Yelp
"Despite having a reservation and observing numerous available tables, we experienced an unexpected 30-minute wait before being seated. The interaction with the host and the staff responsible for table assignments left much to be desired, falling short of the welcoming atmosphere one anticipates. Food is very good! The service is good as well except the horrible experience to get a table,

Yelp
We had our anniversary at the hotel and celebrated at the bourbon steak house. They provided us free delicious champagne. We enjoyed the food, wine and cocktails, services and the vibe very much.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner at Bourban steak. The food was superb and our waiter, Gio, was super attentive, very helpful choosing the menu and helped make the experience a night to remember. The manager, Paul, came over to make sure everything was going well. It's a really expensive resturant but definitely worth it. We will back!

Yelp
The most beautiful place to go to the celebrate an occasion. Started with Complementary champagne.. The staff was so courteous, kind and attentive. Multiple staff members came by the table to express there congratulations, beautiful touch. The view was fantastic, definetly something to write home about. The fry appetizer with dipping sauce was delicious. I don't even eat beef but enjoyed the butter texture of the wagyu beef. The bass was prepared well and I loved the Brussel sprouts, unfortunately not a fan of the mac and cheese. The warm salty topped butter truffle roll was perfect, I wish I had a second but thats me being greedy. My husband ordered a special cocktail where we recieved a history lesson with a table-side cart. When the sun set and it started to cool outside, we were offered blankets ( they thought of everything ) . Will come back when we are in the area. We should make this an annual experience.

Yelp
We celebrated a birthday here on Saturday and the food was excellent. The steaks were cooked perfectly and were flavorful and tender. The sides were also delicious! The appetizer, shrimp cocktail, was nicely presented and very good. The service however was poor. We waited more than 45 minutes for our drinks. During this time we ordered appetizers and they arrived fairly soon. We brought a special bottle of wine to celebrate and it was taken from the table to open and aerate but not returned until we asked twice that it be placed on the table. Over an hour later. Odd. We told the server we wanted a leisurely meal but we felt rushed as we were asked for our entree order more than 4 times while we waited for our cocktails. We found this rude and very disappointing. Last, the noise level was so extreme that we had to yell at each other throughout dinner (even sitting in a booth) and that was exhausting. We have excellent hearing....they brought a tiny ice cream cone as a complimentary dessert for our daughter celebrating her birthday. Overall, the food was outstanding but the service was a fail. We've been here many times and love the restaurant but the service is uneven and based on which server you get. We expect better service at this high price point.

Yelp
Our first experience at a Michael Mina restaurant and it had us hooked. The staff was very attentive and checked in on us frequently to refill our water and explained every dish before serving it. The view on the terrace is gorgeous at sunset. The steak was cooked perfectly. The O.C. salad has the perfect amount of citrus and freshness to it. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The truffle rolls were so delicious. The duck fat fries were a nice surprise with three different dipping sauces. It's definitely a splurge to dine, but it's definitely worth it as the food is not only delicious, the dining experience is the epitome of a fine dining experience.

Yelp
If it wasn't for the sea bass ceviche with Uni I would of give Bourbon 3 stars. The service is wonderful, but the steaks aren't all that. They don't hold a candle to Mastros. Mushrooms were amazing and comp fries with dipping sauces were tasty along with this cauliflower truffle shot that was yummy. Would come back just for the ceviche and mushrooms sit outside if you can and enjoy the great views.

Yelp
About a week and a half ago I met with my manager and was informed that I had been promoted!! We had a lot going on last weekend and this, but we finally made it out to a celebration dinner. This place did NOT disappoint. My husband loves his old fashioneds so he started off with a "new school" version of an old fashioned and I got myself a fruity little mocktail that was pineapple juice with strawberries and ginger beer topped with freshly grated nutmeg (I do not like the taste of alcohol). They started us off by serving us a component of the chef tomato bisque with a drizzle of chile oil in the cutest little espresso cup. It was 10 million degrees, but it was creamy and delightful! The sweet/savory was a perfect flavor to start the evening off. They also brought out a trio of French fries. (See posted photo) Left side is furikake fries with a sesame mayo dipping sauce. Probably both of our favorites. The sesame oil in the mayo was so delicious and really shined with the furikake fries pairing! The middle set of fries were Parmesan fries with a truffle cream dipping sauce, which were seasoned amazingly and the truffle flavor levels of the sauce were absolutely perfect! The right set were house fries with a yuzu ketchup dipping sauce. The yuzu ketchup threw us off because it worked. It just worked so well! They had a special off-menu appetizer offering, today. The restaurant has its own private fisherman who caught a 98 pound tuna on Friday and they were serving toro from this fresh catch! We were originally going to go with the "instant bacon" appetizer, but once they told us about this, we were both like, "Yes." It was marinated in a housemade ponzu topped with a generous pile of green onions and freshly shaved black truffles. Phenomenal. Melt in your mouth delicious tenderness. You could really taste the freshness! Following that, we got a bread roll that rocked our world. The roll had salt crystals on the top and brushed with butter, and they were STUFFED with truffle butter. No joke, both of us had butter exploding out of our rolls with each bite! It was messy, but soooo good!!! For our sides we got the truffle mac and cheese (phenomenal) and the roasted fingerling potatoes with bacon and cheddar. We are pretty sure they boiled those potatoes in butter, because the buttery flavor was throughout the potatoes lol! My husband ordered the 6oz Mishima reserve Wagyu filet mignon crusted with blue cheese for his entree and I ordered the 8oz Snake Rivers Farm Eye of Ribeye with a king crab Oscar accompaniment for my entree. Both were amazing, cooked to perfection, seasoned to perfection, and we both preferred our chosen cuts of meat over the other's (as it should be). DESSERT!!!! We ordered the basque cheesecake. Holy sweet mother of all things creamy and delicious... I can't even describe. The sweetness was perfect. Not too sweet. The custard texture was smooth and not too thick. The strawberry sauce was sweet at all the perfect levels. Despite being beyond full, my husband and I demolished this slice together. Hated ourselves afterwards, but enjoyed the ride to self-hate. To end the night, our check was delivered with these dark chocolate covered caramel squares. My husband is not a fan of dark chocolate (I am, though) and even he enjoyed these chocolates!

Yelp
Food here is just amazing but the experience and the friendly staff made it that much more amazing! They even gave us a table we wanted vs. the table we didn't. To start, the french fries and dipping sauces were good, however, the rolls with truffle butter were theeeeee best I have ever had! I could of had 10. The table side old fashion was good but not worth the $60 price tag. The wedge salad was so good and a very large portion. The king crab oscar w/ shrimp, miso black cod, as well as filet mignon was just melt in your mouth goodness. I would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Took the drive out from LA to try something new and we were thoroughly impressed! First and foremost, the Service is an amazing experience! From Vincent our head waiter to Adler the server, they gave such a pleasant experience that made us feel special! Top notch! And the food was surprisingly amazing! Surprising because the ambiance , at least we were sitting felt like a library at a hotel lol but from the fries, truffle bread, tuna tartare, caesar salad, steak trio, miso cod, truffle mac and cheese and a cheesecake Adler suggested which was amazing and done in a way I never had before! We are regulars at mastros, eddie v's , watergrill, etc and finally found our new spot to go to!! Well done!

Yelp
We were really excited to try Bourbon Steak as we were there for a weekend get away and we love steak. Service - 10/10 The service was fantastic as is the whole resort. Food - 8/10 The food was pretty good. The Mishima Reserved Filet Mignon was tender and seasoned well but nothing mind blowing. Since we went to a steak house a few days before I got the Miso Black Cod - It was really good. Different than others I have had and would order again. All of our sides were pretty good as well. The truffle mac and cheese was really truffle forward (which I love). The only con was the fried rice - the rice was a bit hard. Biggest Con and why we won't return. We ordered the Tuna Tartar (it's one of their signature dishes). We told them that I had a nut allergy and to please serve without pine nuts. The waiter said not a problem. The dish came out with pine nuts and when we told the person who did the tables side service she said the chef said it should be safe at pine nuts are not tree nuts but seeds. I didn't feel safe eating it so I did a quick google search and the FDA states that pine nuts fall under the category as major food allergy as one of several different tree nuts. Also those with nut allergies should speak with an allergist before eating them. We did end up finding our waiter and letting him know the situation and he was apologetic and re-made our dish. But the GM or Manager on staff came out after our meal and tried to explain that the pine nut should have been safe for me. This made me a bit uncomfortable as I'm usually pretty cautious about my nut allergy as it would have ruined my whole night if I chanced it and was allergic. I also didn't feel like I should have to show him articles on why I didn't feel comfortable eating it.

Yelp
First day eating here, on 4/19/24, was great. Salmon wasn't the best but steak was great. The cheesecake was amazing and they provided me with a sweet birthday treat. However, today (4/20/24) we had a reservation at 8:45pm, and was informed that they had a technical difficulty/failure in the kitchen causing them to not be able to seat us. We even came early around 7:00pm to see if we can do a walk in since our reservation was very late. They said they were full, so we patiently waited. We arrived again at 8:38pm to be seated for our 8:45pm reservation and was informed that they couldn't take us and offered to reschedule tomorrow. I just don't understand why they couldn't contact us immediately because all of the other restaurants were fully booked and we weren't looking to eat room service as we wanted to have a nice dinner out. We also didn't want to leave the resort. Very disappointed in the way they handled this. I do not recommend going here if your reservation is towards closing time. You might not even get seated despite waiting a long time for dinner. Not sure if I'll come here again.

Yelp
Where do I start, this steakhouse is probably one of the top 5 in LA and food quality and service. We ordered 2x trio wagyu from the "secret menu" and it was excellent / top quality meat. I highly recommend to order it. The sides were top notch as well from the Mac n Cheese, Brussel sprouts to the Asparagus. Their complimentary fries trio was also amazing as always. Our servers provided outstanding service as well. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
It's hard to describe the experience as whole: but I left wanting for more and expecting more. We paid almost $300 for two people and we're just left with a lackluster experience. We've paid this much before at high end restaurants and had no regrets: but this one did not meet the expectations my opinion. I'd like to first of thank our AMAZING server Ysabel who honestly was one of the highlights of our evening: she was so attentive, helpful, and kind. She alone was worth one star in this review. We started off with the "new school" version of the old fashion, and a mock-tail (something sunset), and all the complimentary treats (soup, bread, and fries). The soup was okay; my husband liked it but I didn't. The bread was PERFECT! That truffle butter was just so decadent. And the duck fat fries were perfection with that house made ketchup. The complimentary treats were the second star in this review. What lacked was the flavor in the food to match the price. $83 for a ribeye and it better be spot on: unfortunately it lacked seasoning... my husband tried to enjoy it but I could tell it missed the mark. The fingerling potatoes just weren't it. My scallops were okay but nothing special: They lacked flavor. And lastly, I love mac & cheese but this one, was not something that left me wanting more. Two bites and I was not impressed. Overall we saved up our money to come here for our anniversary & were so grateful we were able to get a table here but we left with many to-go boxes with the food we didn't eat because we felt bad sending it back... There's better fine dining elsewhere: save your money & go elsewhere.

Yelp
As a steak lover who has been grilling steaks on a weekly basis for over a decade and has tried some of the best steakhouses in this country and beyond, I can say that this is one of the best steakhouses in SoCal. Short review: Excellent food. Even better service. Try the Wagyu steak trio. Their complimentary fries are excellent. They also offered complimentary soup in cups and a fried bun which was surprisingly well baked/fried. Their dessert offerings were delightful. Ask for blankets if you get cold sitting on the balcony. Valet parking only ($10+tips with validation) Overall Experience: 9.5/10 Food: 9/10 Service: 10/10 Cost: $$$$ Reservation needed: No, but I would recommend getting a reservation just in case. Long review: To begin, the restaurant is located inside a Waldorf Astoria. Valet parking only and the restaurant will validate the parking ticket making it come out to $10 plus tips. The restaurant looks classy (as expected). We sat on the balcony which had views of the ocean and the resort. When we got cold, we were offered blankets (very nice touch) and the heaters were turned on. Excellent Service. Meal started with complimentary fries (3 different kinds coupled with individual sauces), and cups (actual cups) of tomato soup. The fries were likely duck fat fries and were definitely a treat. Tomato soup was great (it's tomato soup, not much to say here) but definitely tasted well after the fries. They offer table side bourbon which is an experience altogether but as we drove from San Diego, we opted for non-alcoholic cocktails. Furthermore, they provided bread/bun but it was pretty unique as it had cheese inside and was first baked and then fried. Kudos to Bourbon management for pairing those great little appetizers. We kept the order short and sweet. 2 orders of the Wagyu Trio and a side of Truffle Mac and Cheese. Wagyu Trio was $198 each and came with 17oz of Wagyu beef (10oz of Missima Ultra NY Strip (American Wagyu), 4oz of Snake River Farms Ribeye (American Wagyu) and 3oz of Hokkaido A5 Wagyu (Japanese Wagyu)). I ordered them Medium rare plus. The steaks came out with the right warmth (maybe a smidge overcooked, I didn't expect them to hit medium rare plus anyway) but the steaks were perfectly seasoned. Needless to say the A5 Wagyu melted in the mouth so it was our favorite. The Snake River Farms have always stood out as one of the best, if not the best, American Wagyu producers and it was very evident here. Think of it being the middle ground of A5 Wagyu and the Missima ultra. The Missima ultra (ultra being the highest richness in Missima meat categories) fell short compared to the others but that was expected. They also came with peppers and they weren't spicy and tasted great with the steak. The Truffle Mac and Cheese was a little disappointing to be honest. It tasted like a regular Mac and Cheese from any steakhouse. I was expecting a hint of truffle flavor but didn't feel anything was different. As we were dining, rain started pouring out of nowhere. The servers sprung to action and moved us into the restaurant quickly and efficiently and each and every server genuinely apologized to us for the rain. They didn't cause the rain, but they apologized. Nevertheless, it's a sign of a very empathetic team of employees. Excellent service!!!! As dinner ended, we ordered 2 desserts. We were already stuffed from the steaks (which neither of us could finish more than half way) but ending the night on a sweet note is always good. We opted for the Souffle and the Beignets. The souffle was passion fruit so very fruity yet not too sweet. The Beignets were large and coupled with a chocolate ganache (maybe a thicker consistency than a ganache) and they were the perfect end to the evening. But wait. They offered us 2 cubes of honey when they brought the check. Think of a lightly sweet cube of honey gummy. That concluded the dinner. Will we back? Considering we live in San Diego, driving an hour to come here regularly is tricky but for celebrations, I don't see why not!

Yelp
(+) Ribeye trio (+) Black truffle mac & cheese (+) Beignets Bourbon Steak - Orange County is a restaurant located within the Waldorf Astoria. It is Chef Michael Mina's nod to American steakhouse, where guests can relax and indulge. Reservations are encouraged, and there are beautiful views on their patio facing the Pacific Ocean. The cocktail program is interesting, where most cocktails are termed old school and new school. The new school drinks are modern-day interpretations to well known drinks. My friend took me here for my 30th birthday and the whole experience was top notch. Food/Drinks: My buddy and I shared the gulf shrimp cocktail, duck fat fries, and a few other goodies courtesy of the chef. For our main course, we went with the ribeye trio, which came with three different types of ribeye. The A5 was my favorite as the meat was so tender and melted in your mouth. I enjoyed the black truffle mac and cheese and the charred cauliflower cilantro and lime sides. The beignets were also very good for dessert. These were better than the ones at Disneyland, which is my only other experience with beignets. Everything was so rich and flavorful but so good! For a steakhouse of this caliber, it met my expectations and slightly beyond. I would only put one steakhouse above this one at the moment. My old fashion was also delicious, but I liked the old school style better than the new style. Service/Ambiance: The service was A1. Our waitress was kind and inviting. We were treated well and she made the experience great. The service met expectations. The ambiance on the patio is very romantic, especially during sunsets. If you would like a romantic view, request the balcony seating. This place is great for celebrations and an occasional splurge. Overall, I would recommend Bourbon steak and will return. The experience overall was excellent.

Yelp
We had a group of five. I think we ordered everything on the menu between appetizers, entrées and dessert. Everything we had was cooked to perfection. Our server went above and beyond.

Yelp
My husband and I went here last night-we had been there a few years ago and I wasn't that amazed. Last night was outstanding! The food was so great, the service was insane and the atmosphere was perfect. I absolutely get why this is voted so high. If you are able to enjoy this place I highly recommend!!! I'm

Yelp
I had an amazing anniversary dinner here! From start to finish the experience was amazing. Everything was a presentation from the apps to the drinks! We ordered some of their special bourbon and they had a whole show with it and smoked the glass at our table. It was pretty amazing and our server was very informative. He knew every detail about the bottle he was serving us which was really cool. The table side tuna tartare was a great appetizer and I definitely recommend this. They prepare this table side and even added a special touch for our anniversary and shaped it as a heart. Also don't forget to ask for their bread rolls! They are stuffed with truffle butter and they were probably some of the best bread rolls I've ever had... no joke! Our steaks were also cooked to perfection! I would come back and have this again in a heart beat. I enjoyed the ribeye and my boyfriend got his go to which is the filet mignon. This was definitely a memorable dinner experience and I hope to come back and enjoy it here again for another anniversary.

Yelp
The best dinner we've ever had. The service, the ambiance, the quality of the food, everything was exquisite. We were staying at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach for our honeymoon and decided to go to bourbon steak for our last night. Once we sat down, we were greeted with champagne that was on the house for our honeymoon. Our waitress went over the menus with us as well as her favorite picks. We started with the complimentary duck fat French fry trio and ordered a Caesar salad to start with. The Caesar salad was so fresh and lemony and the best Caesar I've ever had. The waitress then brought the truffle butter rolls which were my absolute favorite of the dinner. They were warm, fluffy and not too rich with the truffle butter. My husband and I decided to split the porterhouse which was cut up perfectly for us and prepared how we asked it to be. We ordered the chili garlic broccolini and truffle Mac & cheese to pair well with our steak and both sides were delicious. The broccolini was crisp, not too spicy and not over cooked. The truffle Mac & cheese was deliciously rich but not too overpowering with the truffle inside of it. For dessert, we started off with an espresso martini that paired well with the passion fruit soufflé which was THE BEST soufflé I've ever had and my husband got the cheesecake which was a great combination of a crustless cream cheese as well as creme brûlée. Our waitress was kind enough to bring us the milk chocolate beignets on the house as something sweet and special for our honeymoon. We could not be happier with our dinner at bourbon steak. They went above and beyond and made us feel so special. We cannot wait to return!

Yelp
It was everyone's first time at Bourbon and we were all blown away by the food, service, and ambiance. Our server Gio did an excellent job in making sure everyone was happy and he did a great job in his drink recommendations. We will definitely be back again

Yelp
Okay, so I just had one of my best meals ever at Bourbon Steak. From the service, to the atmosphere, to the food and cocktails, it is definitely an elevated experience!! There were six of us, and we were seated promptly. The first thing that I noticed was that our waiter was the most polite and knowledgeable server I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He addressed us formally and had a wonderful pace throughout the evening. We ate outside, and while the Dana Point weather was starting to turn to chilly fall, the heaters kept us toasty warm. We were treated to an amuse bouche of whipped goat cheese with marinated strawberry. We were also delivered the hallmark Duck fat french fries prepared three ways served with three different types of dipping sauces are perfectly matched to each other. We had a round of cocktails ranging from the traditional to the Mina inspired new twists, like a Moscow mule with mint. I had a Boodles gin martini which was perfectly prepared. We skipped ordering other apps went straight to dinner. We shared the special Idaho waygu porterhouse (23 oz!!) with smoke, lobster and several side dishes. I highly recommend the truffle mac and cheese and roasted potatoes, but the charred asparagus and Brussels sprouts were also excellent. The presentation of the steak was incredible, with the big glass dome full of smoke life's off dramatically to reveal perfectly medium rare meat sliced from the bone. The desserts were equally impressive. We shared the chocolate soufflé with peanut butter ice cream. It was ridiculously good. We also had the beignets served with a crème brûlée dipping sauce. It should be illegal. In summary, if you want to have a legitimately special evening, go to Bourbon Steak--it will deliver.

Yelp
Started off the night with complimentary tomato bisque soup, duck fat fries, and brioche injected with truffle butter. My personal favorite was the brioche! We ordered the Ribeye Trio (Hokkaido A5 Wagyu, Prime Delmonico Ribeye and Snake River Farms Wagyu) and an additional 16 oz. Prime Delmonico Ribeye. We ordered all the meats medium rare, the two types of wagyu was perfectly cooked and melted like butter. The trio had a good amount of wagyu pieces since wagyu meats are pretty greasy. The Prime Delmonico Ribeye was slightly overcooked, more like a medium, and was harder to chew but the flavor was good. We also ordered the crispy brussel sprouts and truffle mac & cheese which paired well with the meats. We ended the night with dessert and got the basque cheesecake and the souffle of the day.The souffle was huckleberry flavor. The texture of the souffle was good but the flavor was a bit odd and too sour. Preferred the cheesecake which was creamy and not too sweet. Overall it was a great dining experience and the service was excellent! In addition, the sunset view overlooking the country club and hotel was absolutely breathtaking. Definitely should opt for outside seating!

Yelp
Expensive, but worth the work! It was a Friday evening, but loud beyond normal. Excellent service, great presentation, quality food. Will try a different evening next time! Parking not an issue, a full bar if needed.
