Service 10/10, food 7/10.
My boyfriend and I came here for my birthday dinner on a Monday night. We had reservations for 8:30, and trying to find street parking was a nightmare as expected for downtown. If you're driving, I'd recommend looking for a parking garage beforehand. If you're looking for street parking, you'll have to drive around a couple of times since most spots have restricted "no stops" or "load/unload only" signs. If you're lucky enough to find street parking, it's highly unlikely it'll be in front of the restaurant so be prepared to do some walking.
They do have valet available. When we went, the rate was $15. As I gave up on trying to find parking and was pulling up to the valet, my luck started to turn around and I found a spot right out front! Upon entering, they offered to take our coats. We got there 10 minutes after our reservation start time, and they were kind enough to still seat us. Be careful when opening the door though. I got a splinter from the door frame.
We had Dan as our server and he was super attentive and friendly! My boyfriend and I ordered the wedge salad, beef tartare, rib eye, New York strip, Mac and cheese, and whipped potatoes.
All steaks come À la carte so be prepared to spend some money on side dishes! We had originally ordered two whipped potatoes, but Dan was kind enough to let us know that they're a shareable size! We skipped the second order of potatoes and went for the Mac and cheese instead.
To start, they gave us a complimentary three differently seasoned fries to try with different dipping sauces for each one! The fries were phenomenal and a fun starter!
The wedge salad was 10/10! It was dressed the perfect amount and had a perfect balance of flavors. Nothing was overpowering and it was very enjoyable.
The beef tartare was 7/10. The texture was great, but it feels like it was missing something. I think some spices and acidity would help make it perfect!
I ordered my rib eye medium rare, but it came out more like a medium. I think they might've accidentally mixed up the cook of my steak with my boyfriend's. He ordered his medium, but told me his was cooked under. The steak looked dry from the outside, but I didn't want to judge a book by its cover. However, the inside wasn't much better. The first bite I had was a tough piece of gristle, the second bite was chewy fat, and the third bite was dry. I tried powering through it because I don't like complaining/wasting food, but it was not enjoyable at all. I was honest with Dan about my steak, and he was extremely apologetic since the kitchen was closed and there was nothing they could do about it. I understood and was just happy that they were able to accommodate us coming late to begin with.
The whipped potatoes were an interesting texture and could've used a bit of salt in my opinion. The mac and cheese on the other hand had a really rich cheese that was a bit too salty for my liking. Haha.
At the end of our meal, Dan kindly informed us that another party seated near us took care of our bill! I was honestly shocked since nothing like that has ever happened to me before in my life! It felt kind of weird leaving without paying, but I did stop by the other table to thank the gentleman who took care of our tab!
All in all, I was a bit let down by the food. I dined here back when it used to be RN74. I had the PERFECT most amazing skirt steak here back then, and I think about it all the time. I was extremely sad when RN74 closed, but was super excited to try the rebranded Bourbon Steak! I think we just came at a bad time since it was so close to closing, so I'm willing to give them another shot in the future!
