Great coffee shop with fantastic vibes. Lots of seating options and table choices. Huge food menu - I had the breakfast panini and it was delicious!! Huge portion and great tasting. The coffee was not very good and it tasted burnt, I had the iced coffee with almond milk. I’ll try a latte next time

Every time I come here, it feels like traveling back in time. Looking at the books on the shelves, I can’t help but wonder who might have read them back in the day. The ambiance is incredible—so unique and original. The coffee is delicious, and the Italian panini might just be my favorite. Also, the blueberry muffin is absolutely perfect for me!

A truly inspiring place, beyond their delicious food. If you enjoy laptop cafe remote work, this place will take your experience to another level. PROS: great food, delicious sandwiches and beverages. Staff is very professional and welcoming. Unique indoor vintage atmosphere and gorgeous/quiet garden seating available. CONS: It's hard to think of anything really. Parking is a bit complicated, which enhances the quietness and relaxing atmosphere.

8 years in Chicago and this is still one of my all-time favorites. Such a Lincoln Park gem. The sandwiches are amazing and I love the ambiance. It feels like an old French library. It really is the best and the I Am The Cheese sandwich changed my life!!!!

The old row house setting gives it this cozy, vintage feel, like you’re eating in a friend’s living room. It’s also a great spot to grab a tea or coffee and knock out some work or just people-watch. Pro tip: snagging a seat during peak hours can be a bit tricky, but it’s worth the wait every time.

I absolutely adore the charming ambiance at Bourgeois Pig Cafe! Stepping inside feels like a delightful journey to old European cafes with its cozy atmosphere. The coffee selection is fantastic, and the food options are equally impressive. However, I must admit, my experience with the lemon cake fell short of expectations. Despite this minor setback, I'll definitely be returning for the wonderful atmosphere and delicious coffee.

Really cool cafe in an old converted house near DePaul University. However, being located so close to the school means it is always packed with people studying or catching up. Nothing wrong with that, but good luck finding a spot. We managed to find a small table upstairs in the back to get some work done. The Vietnamese Iced Lattes were great. They do have free WiFi but for some reason anytime I use a Mac it is extremely slow but no issue with Windows.

It is very busy around 1 pm on a Saturday. Thankfully we got in line before a rush but still had to wait a long time for the food to come out. It felt like at least 40 min. If you order it to eat at the cafe, they will bring the food to you calling out your name. They don't seat you so you have to stand around and look for an open table. The vibes were chill and quiet both inside and out. Lot of people inside were studying or working on something. My friends' sandwiches looked amazing. My sandwich Henry VIII was a large sandwich and didn't look very exciting. The ingredients they used seemed fresh, but overall, it tasted like a standard roast beef sandwich. I saw horseradish but missed that it was mild. I was definitely stuffed after finishing it, but I probably wouldn't order again. This is personal taste though. I enjoy more meals with busier flavors. I would come back to try another sandwich. FYI, you can order half sandwiches which is what I'll probably do next time, and don't forget to grab a bag of chips to go with your sandwich!

Came to grab a coffee. Firstly I love the building itself which is a home converted into a store. It has an upstairs and downstairs as well as out door seating so tonnes of seating available. They serve food, coffee and wine + beer. I got my usual, a doppio and a latte. I enjoyed the latte, the doppio not so much(coffee beans weren't roasted the best). The building itself holds a lot of history and the decore includes paintings of presidents, book shelves and 1900's memorabilia. There are lights outside for the outdoor seating while classical music is played inside. It's a good place to come relax, grab a drink and a bite. Although all I got was a slice of cake, the food aroma does smell pleasant. I believe they sell mostly sandwiches and soups, don't hold me to that, check their menu. This was a great spot to stop for a quick and delicious lunch in Lincoln Park. This place is busy, but they still make all their sandwiches pretty fast. Sitting on their patio when it is warm out is so nice and also is great for people watching. The inside is also very nice and inviting! You can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches or lattes!

In my original review, I wrote, "3.5 impressive and unique building--like a giant pub or a run-down library--with cool places to sit and hide and not a bad cup of coffee." There was a dry scone but I was willing to overlook it because of the decent coffee, friendly people, and good vibe. I have since tried the breakfast bowl--twice--and enjoyed the fresh ingredients and the colorful presentation (sour cream is a great add). But you know what the kitchen's original sin is? The use of a microwave to prepare eggs. There are at least seven better ways to prepare eggs--to include boiling--and I can't think of a worse way. Trying hard and some lovely bits here, but we need to up the kitchen's game a notch. This is an indicator, and it's not a great one.

Cute cafe with lots of different rooms, giving it a cozy vibe. Really cool indoor and outdoor seating. Good options for tea and coffee, and good sandwiches and salads as well.

Stopped in around 1pm on a weekday and the line was long. It moved fairly quickly though. I ordered an Italian panini, which came out pretty quickly too. The bread was fresh, but the sandwich was a bit soggy and messy and didn't seem properly pressed. The taste was amazing though. Sandwich was served with a pickle spear. I'd come back and try some of their other sandwiches. They also have a grab and go section which would be good in a rush.

Delicious food, drinks, and atmosphere! So many veggie options and well priced- I recommend half a sandwich - they are big! I got the east of eden(loved it) and my friend got the Ham I am(and loved it!). Go here for a cozy breakfast.

I loved this place. My first visit and had the best veggie Panini. DePaul University is close by so there's lots of students in here studying. You place your order at the counter and they deliver it to your table. If you're lucky, you will get a window seat and can watch the birds play in the dog bowl water. Best paninis!!!

TL;DR: Casual & quick food, speakeasy at the top, be mindful on the weekends because students might take over the place This is a great sandwich place that also serves pies, breakfast items, cookies, and more! The sandwiches are big and can easily be taken to go for the lake or a picnic! The Great Gatsby was a solid sandwich that I would get again, but there are lots of hot and cold sandwiches on the menu at a decent price. The style of this place is to order at the counter and take it your table. The interior is really cool too, I would go back, but I would be mindful of timing because this place can fill up very quickly!

My small almond milk one shot latte was good, but definitely too small, especially since it was $5.02. There are certain commonly agreed upon standards, the small here is 6 oz? Makes me feel cheated.

I wish I had a more positive review. After a few visits, it's been a disappointing lunch experience. The quality of food and service is poor. From end to end, an order takes ~30-40 mins. I've experienced sandwiches that are made incorrectly (wrong bread, wrong meat, wrong cheese, hot when it's supposed to be cold, etc) multiple times-- how it's possible to make a sandwich poorly... Prices are slightly higher than a fast casual restaurant chain, ranging around $14-18. The cafe has a nice homely atmosphere. It's usually crowded with too many seating areas in a confined space. It's best to avoid popular lunch hours if you're wanting a table or a relaxing atmosphere.

One of my favorite coffee shops in the city! Everything about this place is wonderful, from the food to the ambience. I think the specialty is any of the focaccia sandwiches and they are so delicious! The cappuchino was good, but the other real standout is the interior. It is just the coziest coffee shop ever! The music is good and low levels and it's just the perfect place to work, study, or chill.

Phenomenal sandwiches and ambiance!! I came here on a Saturday mid morning with wonderful recommendations about the food. I was a little sad to hear that they were sold out of their breakfast panini and also gluten free bread, which was surprising for only 10am on a Saturday (maybe there's an early morning rush?). I ordered the Great Gatsby which seems to be the popular option and for good reason! This sandwich was phenomenal!! The focaccia is so fresh and even had herbs mixed into the greens. The sauce on the sandwich was also awesome. The sandwich was about $15. I love their porch area with the string lights and the music was such a cute chill vibe. I will absolutely be back! Great lil lunch spot in Lincoln park.

I've loved the Bourgeois Pig for years now. Unfortunately, my experiences as of late have been pretty rough. Today I dropped in to get a sandwich to go. I usually love the Great Gatsby sandwich, but it just wasn't very good. I don't think it was made right (I think missing some ingredients like bacon, etc.). It also took over 20 minutes. It's extremely overpriced - I paid $18 for this sandwich. They used to give a small bag of chips with it but I guess they don't do that anymore. The employees were doing their best. - so there's a star for them. They probably could lower their prices just a bit, get more trained staff, and go back to the quality of sandwiches they had pre-pandemic. (I know it's hard to hire, etc right now...and could totally overlook the other stuff, but $18 for a sandwich that I only eat half of? Probably not worth it.)

The prices on the board and online are not the actually prices charged when you go order in person. I was up charged $2-3 per sandwich. When I told the cashier she said prices on the board weren't updated.

Literally amazing and I love this place. I love their drinks and chai latte! My partner gets the Thai coffee and is a big fan! Right now I'm obsessed with their breakfast burrito and the great gatsby sandwich. Also the inside is just so cute and cozy! Sometimes it's hard to find a spot to sit especially once Depaul students are back but I think it's worth the wait!

I came here for a quick snack and got the pita bread and hummus plate. It was just okay especially considering the expensive price. However the staff was SO fun and kind to talk to!! Definitely a highlight of my day! Thank you Tom for the fun convo! Also their cafe is so so vibey and I love the vintage feel of the place. They also have great music.

I had The Great Gatsby and while it was really good I feel like this place might be over hyped. The sandwich was good but I truly think I could've made it at home. I've heard it's a good place to study or work but when I went it to get my takeout order around lunch time it was PACKED and not the environment I would like to study/work in.

I really loved this place. I hadn't been there before. Very cozy vibes and delicious food. I got a vanilla latte and the Great Gatsby... definitely worth the hype as one of their most popular sandwiches. The staff was really friendly as well.

This cafe is probably my favorite one I've been to yet in chicago! The atmosphere is so cozy and academic. I have come here to work from home twice already and have loved it both times. There is so many people around doing the exact same thing! The service is always great and everyone is super nice. No complaints from me. The food and coffee is delicious! The chicken sandwich I had was great and so was the panini I got the other time! Everything about this place is comforting, the food and the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a new go to spot!

How I wish I could give this place a better rating. Its got all the makings of a great independent coffee house and vibe but the coffee is just not good. I have stopped by several times hoping that my previous experiences were just a fluke but at this point its just the norm. They are not using enough coffee grounds when brewing coffee. Everything tastes watered down no matter what roast it is. There are so many other coffee shops in the area, if you want a coffee look elsewhere.

I cannot say how much I love this sandwich and coffee shop. The inside is exactly, my favorite kind of aesthetic, good, brews, toasty sandwiches, and surrounded by books and fireplaces. Seriously good eats. Let's go to the food. Pilgrims progress: 5/5, what county is your standard turkey sandwich may not be anything appealing based off of the ingredient list, but the combination of toasty sourdough and delicious cuts of meat with fresh veggies, makes all the difference. A perfect sandwich for anyone. The old Man and the Sea : 5/5, big fan of tuna salad sandwiches, and this one is delicious. Lots of fresh chopped herbs, and not too heavy on the mayonnaise. Highly recommend if you're into tuna salad. Overall: 5/5, I think the review speaks for itself. If you haven't tried it, go and check out my new obsession.

R and I liked our sandwiches. But the service was poor and neither sandwich was as ordered. The Great Gatsby was supposed to have bacon, it did not. The Ham-I-Am was not suppose to have onions, it was loaded with them.

Food was great, but the ambiance is even greater. Nice chill place with a good atmosphere.

these baristas MUST be on crack. the coffee is beyond disgusting. i dont even know how to put the taste into words. the oat milk tases like thick mucus and the espresso tastes like the barista used the same coffee grounds over and over again. i dont understand how they could have made this coffee this bad because wow. My latte looks and tastes like cigarette water. toodles!

Walked by this place a few time and it just looked really inviting. Needed some lunch so we got coffees, I got a pomegranate special and it was awesome. For lunch my partner ordered the breakfast burrito ( he loves any place that serves breakfast all day) and I got the Hobbit, a sourdough club sandwich with chipotle mayo, it was very good especially the bread. Service was a little slow, this doesn't seem like the place to go in a rush, but the food was excellent. They also had several very delicious looking desserts in their display I will try next time.

Delightful café in all seasons. Feels like Berliner Kneipe. Several floors and rooms surrounded by books and antiques. Eclectic eccentric service adds to the charm (this is the antithesis of a chain): I was trying to hack a sweet coffee drink after a parched lakefront ride and asked for ice cream. The manager said, "We don't have ice cream," and I said, "Wow, it's painted on the front window." He was dumbfounded, asked me to show him (no one had ever noticed). He was amazed to see it and thanked me warmheartedly (leave it to tech writers to notice things like this). Jazz duo on the small patio, weekends I think. Good coffee and tons of character and originality.

I suggested this place for a quick cup of coffee and to show my visiting friend a bit of my high school history when I thought I was sophisticated for being able to blend in with college kids while I was eating a sandwich. What transpired in my latest visit drastically made me rethink my opinion of this place and maybe how I viewed myself in high school. We walked in and my friend just wanted a latte and I got an Arnold Palmer. Wait, it wasn't that simple, we walked in to where the counter was and no one was there. I quickly checked the other side to see if maybe they had changed it over again, nope. No one. The young woman who we saw running food, clearing tables also had the additional duty of taking orders. After doing another food drop off/clearing tables lap she got behind the counter and took our order and then she disappeared again. She was also managing the wrap up for delivery orders and because she took our orders she was way behind on that. We literally stood around for 15 minutes for a drink and one of them a cold one! After another 5 minutes went on and someone pulled up with supplies. He saw the crowd of people waiting and how there was only one harried staff member doing all this work took initiative and said "too many people here, get out." Not exactly the best response given to a people either waiting for their order or waiting to order. I came here for nostalgia but honestly, there are plenty of places to get a quick coffee and a sandwich around the neighborhood. No need to come here for the long wait and/or insensitive management.

This place almost feels like an F-U to the stale places that have moved into this area over the years. Bookshelves, antique furniture, and random decor galore. The iced coffee was solid and service was quick. Didn't eat so can't speak to the food. Will be back!

What a lovely atmosphere here at this cafe. Lots of food and drink choices which are appreciated. Love that the sandwiches can be ordered as halves because a half is enough. Really enjoyed the turkey sandwich and the pilgrim progress panini. The onions are a bit harsh but easy to pull off. Place was clean, sanitized, masks required and tables distances apart. Will be interested in how this place does in the winter but I can see carry out being a great option!

I ordered 2 "Great Gatsby's" today for $14.25 each and let me tell you, this was anything but "Great". I typically don't Yelp review if a restaurant gives an honest effort in both construction and taste of the dish. This was anything but honest - I received a (1) slice of Turkey on a bread. The Turkey was so thin that you could see through it. I genuinely think that the chef was on his last 2 pieces of Turkey when he crafted these "Great" sandwiches. Can't fool me, Bourgeois - I won't be back. The attached pictures are indicative of what was given today Vs. What has been given in the past.

This place was a nice cozy spot to study. It is more spacious inside than it appears. It has a lot of old and eclectic furniture, with a fun vintage vibe. We enjoyed the natural light and quiet space. I got a latte that was pretty good!! My friend and I split a panini that I thought was also tasty. A little heavy on the sauce. They are large portions so come hungry! The wait was pretty long, so don't come if you are in any rush. I would definitely come back to study, it was a nice meeting spot for us.

Cute place but food is honestly bad. Not sure how you mess up a BLT. we got three sandwiches and they all sucked :(

Sandwiches are good but overpriced. Every time I place a to go order it takes double the amount of time it estimates or they don't make the order altogether and I have to ask multiple times - I would recommend only ordering in person. The employees are nice but there's almost always a long wait to receive your food.

I love this cafe and it is in a perfect spot! The drinks are amazing, food is delicious and all mixed in with a wonderful ambiance. There is plenty of seating inside and outside (weather dependent, obviously). My only two qualms: waiting space and long waiting times. This is a busy cafe and always packed, so it seems like a bigger or better flow of waiting space is necessary. Also the wait seems to a while. I wonder if that was always like that pre COVID. Either way, I will be back!

So disappointing. It was 2 pm, I'd been having a pretty bad day and a head cold, and all I wanted was soup. I had been planning on going somewhere else but I'd already driven literally all over the city and suburbs and wanted to stay in the area of my last delivery. I tried calling to confirm that they had veggie soup options. No answer on the phone. Fortunately, we got a parking space out front, illegally double parked in a 15 minute zone (have I mentioned the kind of day I'm having?). There were 4 total soups, 2 of which are vegetarian. My husband and I ordered 1 each, cream of carrot and chili. Neither one of us liked either and honestly we're not picky eaters. My husband said that the carrot soup tasted like slop they serve to folks in the armed services, and yet he preferred it to the chili. The chili was truly soup, not a chunky chili. It had high fire, I like spice but this was a tad too spicy for me. The bread that accompanied each soup was similar to that they serve to prisoners. At one point my husband said, "I forgot how long they take here." I thought he was teasing me cause he knew that ALL I WANTED WAS SOUP and to be cured of my sinus headache. He was NOT Kidding, it took a ridiculously long time to get 2 sub par soups. I have no idea what I paid for said soups but probably way too much considering the quality and taste, that you go up to the counter to order, up to a counter again to retrieve your food, and then bus your own table. The 2 stars are because the employees are nice, I'm a huge sucker for the decor, and from prior visits I know that they can be good.

This place wants to be cute, it feels like your in someone's home which is a cool concept, but I couldn't get past the dirtiness! The bathroom sink and toilet were dirty, the floor had many layers of grime and there was no soap for hand washing. There was no napkins or sugar left at the table. The place throughout has never seen a vacuum or a wipe down, badly sunken in sofa cushions in need of repair. Now down to the food, it was all very mediocre and looked better than it tasted (I tried the pulled pork special, the reuben and a bowl of vegetarian chili, $50 total!). The oat latte was the only thing I enjoyed. I won't be returning.

My experience here was very mixed: The good: The food is good. I had the Beggars Opera which I was unsure of when I ordered, but it was perfect. I may have wanted it on a thicker bread, but I know for next time. The Bad: Ok so first I'm a student and they had a student discount... which they didn't give to me. I'm not usually one to argue about the price because I feel like a Karen but I didn't get the discount. Second the food took forever. It's a cold sandwich so it shouldn't have taken 15 min+ Third the staff was just super busy and inattentive. There was a guy who looked like a manger but couldn't care less about what was actually going on. I was trying to figure out if I should clear or not. I tried to get his attention but he seemed to not care. I left it at the table but felt guilty. The guy at the register was SWAMPED, so I didn't want to bother him. Anyway will probs be returning, just taking it to go.

the food was absolutely delicious and really big quantity! excellent service and atmosphere was great especially for studying or catching up with friends or even solo reading a book by yourself! during the rush hours it will be hard to find a spot for yourself so if youre planning on sitting down to eat dont come during rush hour lol

I usually love this place, the food is good and they have a really cool atmosphere however you can tell the shop is cutting their own cost and putting it on customers. I ordered the great gatsby which I'm used to being a big sandwich for 15$ however this time I ordered over the phone the sandwich was around half the size it normally is but I paid full price. I wonder if this is something they do just for over the phone orders or if they do this in the cafe as well? Either way if the cafe is going to offer less then they should really think about doing the right and making the sandwiches cheaper. Customer should not pay the same for less really too bad.

I used to work here and the owner is absolutely horrible. First of all, he doesn't pay employees on time, which is one of the main reasons I left. Beyond that, be wary as a customer. The bathrooms are never cleaned unless the employees CHOOSE to clean them. Same goes with the seating area, much of it was never cleaned (I worked here pre-COVID so things might be different now) Often times we would sell out of COFFEE beans, and he would then just go to Costco for whatever he could find. Most of the food is prepped in advance, and much of which.... Was rarely known how long ago it was made. And on top of that, we used the microwave a lot more than most businesses probably should. Despite all of this, I must say that the baked goods are amazing. The owner is an amazing baker and those are one of the few things made fresh. So if you stop in for a cookie you're good to go. Otherwise? Be careful.
