Australian Favorite Bourke Street Bakery Opens Second Location in Chelsea - Eater NY

"Crowd-favorite Australian import Bourke Street Bakery has expanded across town. The cafe and bakery — known for its savory sausage rolls, flaky meat pies, and top-notch sourdough bread program — opened a second NYC outpost in Chelsea this weekend, at the corner of West 18th Street. The new bakery will be stocking the same hits as its two-year-old Nomad shop, and, similar to the Nomad opening, customers are already flocking to the new location to load up on pastries and bread." - Erika Adams

During my stay in New York, Bourke Street Bakery quickly became my favorite morning ritual. Each day, I started with their delicious coffee-always perfectly brewed and with the option to sprinkle cinnamon on top, which I absolutely love. The almond croissant was generously sized, beautifully caramelized, and very tasty. The staff were always friendly and welcoming. I appreciated being able to sit at a table, enjoy my coffee and pastry in peace, and relax. Bourke Street Bakery offers a wonderful selection of baked goods, but the combination of great coffee, outstanding almond croissants, and warm service made it my go-to spot in the city. I’ll definitely return the next time I’m in New York.

I’ve visited this café several times and love it! The Carrot & Walnut Cake is perfectly balanced—not too sweet. The Butternut Squash, Rosemary & Parmesan Quiche is savory and perfect for brunch or breakfast. The croissant is wonderfully flaky with great texture. They also offer a great selection of organic teas. The café’s simple yet cozy design makes it a lovely spot to relax. I’m looking forward to trying their sourdough bread and other pastries.

I’ve been here before and love their funky options. Today they completely missed the mark. I’ve never ordered a sandwich here so I decided to be adventurous and order an everything croissant with tomato & Swiss cheese. The not so friendly counter person asked if I wanted it ‘warm’ so I said ‘sure!’. Never expected the ‘warm’ to be completely on fire. It was so hot I had to wait a good 4-5 minutes for it to cool down then when that didn’t work work I opened it only to discover it was still piping hot. The tomato and arugula were completely wilted/mushy/beyond enjoyment. The croissant wasn’t crispy or flaky… this was on top of the counter person being a tad rude to me for not knowing what exactly I wanted. I left the place so completely dissatisfied. Erggg

Wish I had been hungry enough to try more food because what I did have was fantastic. I’m a sucker for almond croissants so I simply had to stop by after seeing it on their menu. Bourke is an Australian bakery with a relaxed atmosphere and tons of baked goods. Now I’ve been to Australia and have never been a fan of the whole hot meat pie thing as I’m from the south so my pies need to be made of fruit. That being said the almond croissant I ordered was out of this world and I was eyeing up the Cacio e Pepe cheese twist but unfortunately didn’t have room for both. I also ordered a chai latte which was super lack luster and tasted more like chai flavored water than anything. Finally they don’t have a bathroom open to the public which is absurd to me and left me searching for a bathroom after leaving. Definitely recommend stopping by just avoid the chai latte and don’t come with a full bladder.

Honestly I don’t understand people who left 1* reviews… I randomly stopped by because I was craving of some pastry and when I saw the croissants I was shocked! I’ve never seen that huge croissants in NYC. I enjoyed finishing chocolate one. That’s a nice place!

Heard about this bakery’s famous sausage so I had to try it since it was close to our hotel. We got there late in the morning (around 10am) and there was only 1 person serving the 2 customers lining up in front of me plus 2 customers who already paid their orders. This person moved super slow and really took his time preparing each order. For a simple to-go order, it took me about 20-30 minutes! - Pork sausage: this was heavy! The sausage inside was huge! It was delicious but a tad too salty for me. The outer pastry was flakey and light. - Chocolate Croissant: good croissant with flakey layers and buttery taste.

Shakshuka Egg & Feta Danish, Red pepper, sumac, thyme, pickled peppers, onions, tomato, garlic, salt, black pepper, feta, egg, white flour, butter, brown sugar, yeast, milk 200 g $6.60 3. Had the danish, which was made with savory and eggs. Very crispy and delicious. The staff was really good in service too. I made a mistake w.r.t. the beverage I picked and opened. They were very nice to not overcharge me for it. Made for a very good experience. Highly recommend this place. I love all Bourke locations in NY
