Bourke Street Bakery Review - Nomad - New York - The Infatuation

"Bourke Street Bakery started out in Sydney, but now there’s a big, bright location on 28th Street. This is fortunate for anyone who lives in the area - because the pastries here are incredibly good (and deserve to be eaten by you). We especially like the big flaky croissants and the rich chocolate tarts, and we’d travel several miles on a subway without AC just to eat their maple bacon danish. There are also a bunch of other things like bread, muffins, sausage rolls, and sandwiches. If you find yourself nearby in the morning, stop by for an excellent BEC. Either take it to go, or grab one of the tables to side and hang out for a bit." - Bryan Kim

The World's Most Influential Chefs On Their Favorite Foodie Finds

"Bourke Street Bakery is my first stop when I’m visiting the city. Its fresh ginger crème brûlée tarts are perfection. Runny spiced custard, brittle caramel, and a light, crisp pastry. The secret is the high proportion of water in the dough."

Great bread, yummy coffee and friendly staff. This branch is larger than the actual one on Bourke St (which frankly, is uncomfortable to even queue in), but still fairly tiny. A couple tables for a coffee in, but not a 'take tour friends and have brunch' kind of spot. Literally next to the train station so great for a dash by.

I went with a friend in November, and we were served by Tom. He was very friendly and offered us two hot chocolates, which were delicious. We also had two pieces of cake, which were equally tasty. Thank you so much :)

A welcoming neighborhood bakery with decent pastries and coffee. I've started my days with good energy thanks to all the staff members over the past year. I have now finished my studies and left Sydney, but didn’t have the chance to say thank you in person. I already miss the bacon and egg roll and skim flat white. Thank you so much!

Google
A friend recommended us Bourke st bakery and the pies and pastries look beautiful. I tried rhubarb danish and croissant and they are delicious with flaky crust. Different from other bakeries. I hope they can make gluten free pastries too.

Second time trying the place and I wanted to love it so much… Coffee is decent and the ham cheese croissant was nice (a little too small for the price). The service falls flat. I understand it gets busy, but second time I feel like a burden when ordering. Food may be good, but service is a big factor. Hospitality means you feel welcomed. I smiled more than any of the staff, and that makes it seem like they don’t want to be there. I don’t think I will return 🤷🏼‍♀️

This café is right across from my workplace, and I think the food is super delicious 😋. Everything is handmade and freshly prepared, and the staff are really friendly. The only downside is that it gets quite busy during peak hours 💃, so the wait can be a bit long. This time, I got the bacon and egg burger, and it was absolutely amazing! I make sure to grab one every week when I'm working. Highly recommended! 👍💕Btw everything price is affordable 🌸

Very delicious. We have recently tried the lemon curd tarts, cinnamon scrolls, home made lemonade and rosemary & potato bread. All excellent, well above the standard with ok prices. Somehow Bourke St Bakery manage to keep a good standard across several branches unlike some other well known bakeries. I first tasted their food 12 years ago and the high quality is still very much present. The servers are great too, very genuine and helpful. I’m not mad on the location for a sit down snack as it’s on a pretty busy corner.

Yelp
Legendary breads and pastries! Bourke Street Bakery is an essential stop for us every time we are in Sydney! This time we visited the Newtown outlet and it was every bit as good as the original Surry Hills store. We love the pork and fennel sausage rolls and the lamb, harissa and almond sausage rolls (with house made tomato sauce).

Yelp
It's so lovely to have an extension of this local chain in my neck of the woods! Stopped in today for a chocolate tart and iced coffee as a late-afternoon-on-a-weekend pick me up. While it's lively here, this branch isn't as overrun as the Surry Hills location, so you can actually sit down and enjoy your treat. This is also a nice difference from Black Star Pastry nearby, which is typically unbearable on a weekend. My bottled iced coffee was nice and cold, with the right amount of sugar to keep it from being too bitter. The chocolate tart could have been a little sweeter, but it had a nice consistency and din't try to escape all over the plate after I bit into it. I liked that it was not too big, so I didn't feel gross after I finished it. Excellent service, with my snack delivered in a quick and friendly manner. They also had a wide array of breads on hand, though they were low on sandwiches as it was nearing 3pm. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Wish I had more time to try more of Bourke Street Bakery! If you like creme brulee and the ginger flavor, their signature ginger creme brulee tart is a must get! (Best eaten right away. I tried to save it for later but I forgot it in the car and it got really messy.) I was also able to get a black coffee although it is not listed on their menu. Coffee was delicious as well and one that I'd get again next time I'm in Sydney.

Yelp
I went to the original, which was quainter and friendlier and fresher, so I was kind of ruined for this place, which rushed us out 3 minutes after we were seated. The coffee and hot chocolate were still good though.

Yelp
Sometimes you forget that the reason a bakery is popular is because it's a great local gem, good affordable food, great coffee and the perfect location in Newtown. Yay for Bourke St Bakery!

Yelp
Not sure why this place is popular. Coffee wasn't great. 20 minute wait for a bit of avo and feta on toast. Bread had sweated and gone cold before it got to me. Won't go back.
