12 New Hotels For Winter Weather Travel in Europe - AFAR

"A boutique Grindelwald property well positioned for access to 45 lifts and 133 miles of piste, offering 28 rooms—some with balconies and private hot tubs—and alpine-French dining from Chef Paul Cabayé. The menu includes inventive and vegetarian-friendly plates such as grilled leeks with smoked kombu beurre blanc and egg yolk prepared in a watercress and leek emulsion, supported by a deep wine list (around 600 Swiss and French labels, 160 available by the glass). Wellness features include a log-lined sauna, heated outdoor whirlpool, steam room, and a relaxation area with warm waterbeds, all ideal after local activities like the First Flieger zipline and Velogemel snow bikes." - Adam H. GLACIER

"What a great location right in front of the Eiger North Face! The fine dining restaurant of the chic boutique hotel (also called GLACIER) makes the most of its surroundings with a floor-to-ceiling window front – and a wonderful terrace for a magical view! The cuisine is ambitious, modern, creative and seasonal. In the evening, a set menu is available in three formats: "Découverte" with three courses, "Promenade" with five courses and "Excursion" with seven courses (the last two courses are surprise dishes). There are vegetarian versions of all three. Great emphasis is placed on selecting high-quality ingredients, with a preference for supplies from local producers. The 320-year-old wine cellar is home to around 500 labels, 160 of which are also available by the glass. An enthusiastic sommelier provides astute recommendations." - Michelin Inspector

Boutique Hotel Glacier (Grindelwald, Canton of Bern) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"If ever there was a hotel that efficiently adapted to time and circumstance, it's the Hotel Glacier in Grindelwald. The original hotel opened near the foot of an alpine glacier in 1864, back in the days when huge blocks of ice were harvested and transported by horse and carriage to Interlaken. Over the past century, the glacier has retreated dramatically — only its uppermost portion remains, and it’s a good distance away in the mountaintops — and the hotel has evolved accordingly, with a modified layout that makes the most of the setting while staying true to the property's history." - Tablet Hotels

We had an excellent stay at Glacier Boutique Hotel. We absolutely loved our private hot tub looking out at Eiger North Face. The room was very big too. Breakfast was great! We did not use the spa but it also looks wonderful. Don’t miss the Glacier Fine Dining with wine pairings. We used the house transfer service to town or Grindelwald Terminal several times and it was a small price, very worthwhile. The laundry was included and we didn’t even know it was offered- definitely take advantage of that. Overall I highly suggest this hotel.

Stayed in Aug 2024 for 6 nights. Everything was great, but the stand out for me was the self laundry service. It was so helpful that we were thinking why other hotels don't provide this facility!! Coming to the room, it was super spacious with an unbelievable view. Starting from the front desk to the restaurant staff, everyone greeted us with a smile and always looking out to help. Over the course of our stay, on few occasions, we had dined at their in-house restaurant, and the food (as well as the service) was top notch.

Booked a room at Hotel Glacier and was not disappointed. Our room faced the mountain, which had great views rain or shine. The staff was nice and accommodating. They had an excellent spa. Good massages too, but try to book those in advance as they only have 1 room and 1 masseuse so they fill up. We did the 7 course meal for our birthday and it was great (sit comes in a 5 course version too). Only problem for some folks will be that it is a steep walk to town, so if you have mobility issues, you will need to rent a car. It was not an issue for us so I am not penalizing them for that. Also, they have a great breakfast included!

I don’t even know where to begin with this hotel. It was truly the BEST hotel experience we have had! We had a family of five, two separate rooms and it was beyond a privilege to stay here! The rooms were so clean and had such a nice finish and style! We LOVED the balcony so much and grabbed a coffee with their complimentary cake on it nearly every day. Their breakfast was incredible and their Petit Glacier menu was just as great. Truly not a bad or mid experience at this hotel. The customer service though was what outshone everything. They made you feel so at home and welcomed. What an experience! The only regret we had is that we wish we stayed longer in the Glacier hotel!!!!

What an incredible stay at Boutique Hotel Glacier! The view from the terrace is absolutely unreal—we spent hours just lounging and staring at the mountains. Rooms are super comfortable, the vibe is modern but cozy, and the service was top-notch. Everything feels thoughtfully designed, and the location is perfect for exploring Grindelwald. Could not have asked for a better place to relax and unwind. Already dreaming about coming back!

Wow was my first thought upon arriving. This hotel will be hard to beat in pretty much every aspect. Room- excellent, big shower, plenty of storage space, private hot tub was a plus, bed was comfy enough but nothing mind blowing. Staff- each person we interacted with was so kind and helpful. From directing us to the correct bus and train, to food suggestions and activities. They did it all, special thanks to Juliana for all the suggestions and all the other girls at reception were amazing. Spa- great with a steam sauna, Finnish sauna, water beds to relax, and a beautiful hot tub. Restaurant/Breakfast- Julio made this place even better at dinner, obrigado Julio. The food was good at dinner and breakfast was excellent and included with the stay. Staying in Grindelwald at the Hotel Glacier was perfect. It made it easy to visit the surrounding areas easily all within an hour. There are so many activities to do it made our stay magical. We hope to return again someday with our kids! Thank you

We rented 4 rooms for a family getaway with our 3 grown children and their spouses. It was home base for our daily excursions we took in the vicinity. The hotel was gorgeous and well appointed. The whole place including the guest rooms were modern with a lot of natural wood and glass giving it a clean and spacious look. Our morning breakfasts there were superb and everything I needed was on the Buffett including an assortment of fresh breads and pastries. I was happy to go down before 7 to fix my type of coffee with their modern coffee maker, I could press the button for a latte or an espresso if I decided. We spent time in the hot tub and met some wonderful people. There were washers and dryers at your disposal if you wished to do some laundry. The bed was comfy and the view was amazing, I really enjoyed morning coffees made with the Nespresso machine inside each guest room. I will definitely be booking here next time I visit the area…..the whole staff was fantastic and couldn’t have been more friendly. I feel as if I’m not giving the place enough credit. Well done all of you at Glacier Hotel in Grindelwald. Thank you so much.

Absolutely adored our stay here! Would definitely stay again. Breathtaking views from our room. The honeymoon package was great and included a massage and the fancy dinner. The staff was over the top friendly and the whole stay felt like a hallmark movie; very cozy stay.
