This sandwich was fire! I had the Chicken "Not So Waffle" which came with Bacon Jam, Maple Syrup, Pimiento Cheese, and Tomato and was absolutely amazing! The sweetness of the maple syrup paired perfectly with the bacon jam and pimiento cheese. Probably one of the best not-quite-fast food chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had.

What was that? I ordered a garden salad with chicken on it. Well I got a handful of greens out a bag and like half a chicken breast with no seasoning. There were 3 cucumbers on it. No blue cheese and the dressing was spicy. Why was blue cheese dressing spicy. Also the tables are too high. If you like eating with your table in your armpits you'll like it

Walked in to “Box Car Betty’s” for the first time and had the idea of loaded fries. Seeing that they didn’t have any made me ask the question creating my own. Well a 5min conversation of what that looked like adding in the helpfulness of the staff. We created the picture you see on my review. Chicken breast (cut up) on top of fries w/ spicy mayo, ranch and with some of the best pimento cheese I’ve ever tasted. We created a masterpiece! 10/10 P.s. I couldn’t stop eating it, had to snap a picture before it went missing lol.

Outstanding spot! Tried both their classic and spicy chicken sandwich options, and both were fantastic - delicious, juicy chicken, and a terrific mix of sauces and other ingredients all helped to make these some of the better fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Lots of tasty side options, as well - the fried pickles were choice. Would definitely come back here.

One of the better chicken sandwiches I've ever had, the sandwich was cooked 2perfection juicy seasoned well and fall of the bone texture. The 🍟 were done just right with light salt. Customer service was on par great experience 4 me.

This is our family's favorite spot! Every time we have visitors from out of town we make sure they get Boxcar Betty's because they have the most delicious pimento cheese on the sandwiches! I lovvvvve it because you can have everyone happy in a large group: the kids meals are so great and cheaper than Chick-fil-A, vegetarian options, there is build your own options including a whole salad selection. There's hamburgers it's definitely not just chicken sandwiches. It's always very quick and clean. When I was just there today it only took them 5 minutes to bring my food out.

The double smash burger (beef) was awesome. Definitely get the fried pickles if that's something you like because they are amazing. Overall a must for lunch!

This place was so amazing! The food was so good, and the staff were very respectful, even though they were overworked and couldn’t take our order right away. The only downside was that the root beer syrup was low, so when I filled up my drink, it was just carbonated water. But the amazing food more than made up for that! I definitely recommend.

Oh my fried green tomatoes heaven. The fried chicken sandwich was delicious but the fried green tomatoes made me want to put on a hat, go straight to church and thank my maker for blessing me with such perfectly spiced wheels. Also the bacon jam. Lordy. Thank goodness I was just visiting Charleston or I would weigh approximately 2,000 lbs. I got take out, folks behind the counter were nice!

The chicken was really fresh and high-quality. The fries were fresh, seasoned well and crispy. The buffalo sauce was delicious and the ranch was amazing- obviously made in-house and I could taste the herbs in it. The only drawback for me was that the breading on the chicken had SO MUCH black pepper in it. Even being dipped in buffalo and ranch, almost all I could taste was black pepper. It was just too heavy in the breading flavor. I'm a midwesterner here visiting, so maybe the problem is me, not them. That might be the flavor people prefer in Charleston! But to me, it was super heavy on the pepper. Otherwise, great quality!

I've been here before, to this location even and the food is always been good. But today I don't know why but the boxcar chicken sandwich was extremely bland. The chicken was juicy but not very flavorful and pimento cheese and slide just really didn't have any flavor to it at all. And then the sweet potato fries had so much sugar and cinnamon on them you couldn't even taste the potato. They were unedible. usually I will give a three or four out of five with a recommendation to come back. But today just doesn't get any type of recommendation It was good, fast service though

I love boxcar Betty's chicken. The prices are similar to chicfila but there is much more chicken. I love the not so waffle sandwich. I also like that while it is a chicken place they have plant based options also. It's a cute restaurant to sit down and eat on and so far the service has always been good.

Quick and yummy. I had the fried pickles too. As far as service you order at a counter and they do bring out your food to your table, but you do clean up and take your tray to the trash bins when you finish. They still ask for a tip at the counter when you order.

Another wonderful experience today! We stumbled across this location a year or so ago, as we were enjoying some time away from home. We have since been back two other times, and each time it has been delicious! The Boxcar Combo is a favorite of ours with a steaming hot fried chicken breast topped with pimento cheese, peach slaw (don't worry...no strong peach flavor) and the best homemade pickles we've ever enjoyed. While a bit messy, it's definitely worth the effort. We've also thoroughly enjoyed the smash burgers and build-your-own chicken sandwich...make it what you want. The fried pickles were also a huge hit amongst our crew. And everything was piping hot!!! The only inconvenience you may experience is getting in and out of the parking lot, depending on the time of day and direction you are coming/going...but be patient, a nice southern friend will eventually let you cross over. Just be sure to wave! ;)

Fries were out of this world. Fried chicken cooked perfect and the salad, although a strange mix - the sweet nuts and pickled green tomatoes works, just don't question it!

You'll never eat at Chick Fil A again after you eat at Boxcar Betty's. The "boxcar" is simply the high water mark of chicken sandwiches. The fried pickles are also the best I've ever had and even the macarons are delish. This isn't fancy, it's a "fast food" type place, but you order at the counter and then they bring your food to you. You will never be sorry you ate here. Sorry no photos, once food gets put down, my mouth starts watering and I have to dive right in!

So happy that there is a North Charleston location. This was our first time visiting and it has SO much seating. Big tables for larger groups and lots of smaller tables. The staff was very friendly and we ate, went next door to get Bubble Tea then walked back by and one of the ladies had been cleaning the whole time, which was like 40-50 minutes. That was impressive. The Boxcar chicken sandwich is always my go-to. I love that they locally source the chicken as well.

We went back with friends and ate in. YASSSS, this chicken is the bomb in person. Pricey but delicious.

We were tired after visiting the beach and wanted something to go and different. I tried the chicken sandwich. I was a little hesitant because the sandwich had pimento cheese on it which I'm normally not a fan. This was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It was very flavorful and the pimento cheese added a certain creaminess that worked well with the chicken. The food overall was great for takeout.

This was quite possibly the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. It was exactly what it was supposed to be. A quick bite to eat that is also delicious. Every bite was savory with perfect texture and right amount of crispiness. It's right by where I live so I figured I'd give it a try. Extremely fast. It probably technically classifies as fast food, but with an actually pleasant dining area that's aesthetically pleasing and clean, and food that doesn't make you regret eating it. The place is pretty big for what it is. I was expecting a lot smaller of a place, but it's very spacious. Surprisingly, it was almost completely empty of customers despite the quality of the food.

Met friends for a quick dinner. Tried the smash burger again and it was good minus a tad bit salty. I think next time I'll create my own even though I am a fan of just regular lettuce tomato and onion. The fried pickles were good but I ad to ask for the buttermilk ranch dressing that was suppose to come with it. Upon arrival it took them quite a few minutes to acknowledge me personally. I heard them acknowledge I was in line but that was it. The food was good and my friends also enjoyed theirs. The manager came by and table touched which was nice, that was the 2nd time I've encountered that, good personal touch.

Well, this place (rivers location) has gone downhill... I ordered the Boxcar and waited nearly 20 minutes with hardly anyone in the restaurant. Highly disappointed with the Boxcar that I ordered because it was lacking flavor, hardly anyone of the peach slaw, and no sauce on it! I ordered it to go and unwrapped it and knew it was not gonna be that good. Fortunately, I had some chick-fil-A bbq sauce at my desk.

My turn to pick lunch for myself and co-workers again this week, I always want to introduce them to amazing local options. With a vegetarian in the group I was able to get him the pimento cheese stuffed portobello sandwich and he was thrilled! Everyone else who had never had the Boxcar chicken sandwich before was just as excited. The bun is always so fresh and soft with the delicious fried chicken, peach slaw, pimento cheese, pickles and spicy Mayo. I never taste the peach in the slaw, but everything together in one bite makes it a perfect bite. Their fried pickles and French fries are great. I realized when ordering this last visit that they have fried green tomatoes too. I'll be getting those soon!!!

Man the chicken is flavorful in every bite. In my head I wasn't sure about the slaw and the pimento cheese. Man was I wrong MY God that sandwich was Littty The fries where Smacking to along with the Ranch. If your that person that judges a restaurant by there Ranch this is the 1 Period...

I will never get a chicken sandwich anywhere else. This place is craveable and satisfying. If I ordered a chicken sandwich anywhere else, I'd just be thinking about Boxcar Betty's, and compare the shortcomings of the place I was at. They do one thing, and do it perfectly. I've never been disappointed, and I have returned frequently. I have never had an opinion about chicken sandwiches until I ate here, it's not my thing. This place made it become a THING for me. Sometimes I NEED Boxcar Betty's! Seriously the BEST chicken sandwich you could ever ask for, every time. 100% reliable perfect and delicious. Also, the staff is always lovely, they seem service- oriented even thought it's counter service. As a fellow service industry employee, I really appreciate the care. I really think a simple chicken sandwich here should be on the short list of visitors to Charleston. Get your shrimp and grits, she crab soup, whatever from fancy or tourist places- but do yourselves a favor and visit Boxcar Betty's and get a chicken sandwich. It's special.

Amazing got food to go, and everything was fabulous, warmly greeted, friendly service, and ambience is beautiful. Such a good experience. I love when people care about their customers, it's so hard to find nowadays.

Very yummy. Service was good, no problems whatsoever. Sauce was quite delectable as well. Yes food prices have been continuously rising but $53 for two full sized meals and a kids meal is a bit much, that's the only reason I'd consider taking off a star. With that being said for what you pay you get some of the best quality chicken that this bracket of stores can offer.

Boxcar Betty's recently started charging per topping which made me not come for about a year and change, but let's face it.. They have the best fried chicken sandwiches and I'm so happy I decided that it was pretty average to pay $12 for a darn good sandwich. We just got spoiled for too long really.. they get my order right every time and it comes out piping hot which really excites me. They also accept all sorts of payment. Their dine in situation is a little awkward at this location but really, who cares?!

Stopped in on Monday (labor day) around 1 and the place was sparsely populated. We got in line and ordered four sandwiches and two sides of sweet potato fries. I liked how the woman who took our order wore her mask appropriately albeit she seemed a bit short when taking our order-- wasn't friendly and looked like she had somewhere else to be. Lots of seating in the restaurant. Our party of four easily found a table. We all ordered the boxcar with fried chicken. It is a good, solid sandwich that doesn't disappoint. The chicken could be crispier but I enjoyed all the toppings-- especially the cabbage in the slaw (even though it's claimed to be a peach coleslaw, there's no sign of peach anywhere but it's still good). Even though my sandwich was a bit drippy at the end, I wouldn't hesitate to eat it again. The sweet potato fries are sweet and cinnamony with extra coating of something that makes them super crispy. Overall, a solid place for lunch that fills you up with a well balanced sandwich for a reasonable price. Would visit again!

Great chicken and my son loves them. The food is always fresh and delicious. A little more on the expensive side but worth it.

The Boxcar has become my "Go To" chicken sandwich with either the sweet potato fries or the fried pickles. Haven't been disappointed with the quality and other than the dining area being limited and a bit noisy (they tend to be busy), I have had nothing but good experiences. Recently, I decided to break the trend and get the Chicken Tenders and was pleasantly surprised. Would get them again. They remain my "Go To" when the chicken sandwich craving hits me while in that part of the North area.

Outstanding chicken sandwich & very good smash burger. Food is always fresh & hot! We usually get DoorDash, and are always happy.

Boxcar Betty's used to have amazing chicken sandwiches everything was fresh and the chicken breasts were large. This in mind I was okay with their prices. However I just had a buffalo chicken sandwich and honestly I thought I was eating cookout. I can't justify ever going back to boxcar. And if you also used to eat there and enjoyed what it used to be I would say look elsewhere!

Wow, the chicken sandwich war is over! This is such a cool looking place, came for a business lunch and every person with me was raving on how good these chicken sandwiches were, a lot of them coming here for the first time. The chicken itself was huge and fried to perfection. Sometimes big pieces of chicken can be a little sketchy, but not here, it was so tender and juicy, perfection through every bite. The toppings on the sandwich were all really good too, and the bun so soft and delicious. Come here as soon as you can!

The chicken sandwich is so good that I've been back three times since moving here at the very end of September. The food is definitely cooked fresh, but a downfall of that is that it took 25 minutes the last time I was there.... For a build your own chicken sandwich and fries. Other times, it definitely was more of a wait than fast casual. Usually, I would subtract more stars for terrible service, but the food is THAT good!

Came here for lunch, which was my second to this location and probably 6th time overall. I like the original sandwich and we ordered fries, fried pickles and fried tomatoes as sides and shared. It was all delicious and simple. I like the small menu, I'd rather pick from a few great options that a 1000 "ok" ones. The prices have gone up substantially like everywhere else (almost $10 for just a sandwich) but it is worth the expense.

For my first time, I really enjoyed this spot. I drove up and thought they were closed down lol they have some dark tink on the windows! The food was great... That probably was the best chicken sandwich I've ever had! Lol I wasn't a fan of the sweet potato fries that day lol but I'll give them another try! I'll go back again for sure

Food was pretty good ! Loved the pickled green tomatoes and regular fries. The chicken I ate in my sandwich was good, while the sweet potato fries my mom got were alright but definitely a bit too sweet for our taste with the cinnamon (?). Other than that, the atmosphere was also nice. I'd recommend to try this place out :)

One of my favorite spots in Charleston - way better than any other "fast food" in the area! I actually prefer their burger and fried pickles over the chicken, but everything is phenomenal. Employees are always super nice and patient.

My sister was in town from Dallas and she was West Ashley and I live in Goose Creek and she asked me to meet her at boxcar Betty's and I wanted to tell you that it had the best brunch! I wish it were near her to where I live, but I would definitely go there again and I highly recommend this restaurant‼ it's a casual little restaurant and a strip mall and you wouldn't believe how great the food is‼ Yum.‼‼

Food is good but overpriced. They nickel & dime you for add ons then barely add any on -- I'm talking 35 cents extra for lettuce. Place is clean but service kinda below average/not very pleasant.

Completely dissatisfied. The chicken wasn't crispy the bread was soggy the sauce was not smackin. Not only that but when I opened the box to the sandwhich the tomato was half way hanging off bread wasn't even placed on it correctly, kinda looked like it was thrown. Did not get the quality I paid for should've got a refund and just got some Wendy's. Last time I went to boxcar was a year or 2 ago in west Ashley and it was the best chicken sandwich I ever had so idk what this store got going on. The cashier was really pretty and sweet tho so A for her.

Heard about Boxcar Bettys from someone and gave it a try! Y'all this food was phenomenally amazing! Smash burger so delicious and grilled to perfection! Their fries the bomb!!! And to add to it they use local products now that is a plus and their staff super friendly, pleasant. Give this place a try, you won't regret it!!!!!

Love me some Betty's!! The Boxcar is my go to but all the offering are delish. The chicken is light and crunchy, well seasoned and always fresh, the slaw is SO good and the pickles and delicious! It's a go to for me for lunch or dinner. The new smash burgers are good as well for a little change of pace. My family also enjoys BB, we meet there often. Give it a shot, you'll be glad you did.

The chicken here is beyond great! I legit can never get a picture because by the time i can smell it in front of me its gone! I was a big fast food chicken sandwich guy but this place blew my expectations out of the water. Staff always keeps the place spotless and are very friendly! My new fav spot in town.

Didn't try the chicken, instead went with a burger. The food was good. I would go again. Not much to say, it was nothing flashy or over the top. I will say, the pickled fries green tomatoes were way too sour. I would not recommend those.

Based off of the 4.5 star rating, I expected to enjoy the food here. I got the grilled chicken boxcar style and it was surprisingly flavorless, especially when you consider all the things it had on it. The fried green tomatoes were tasty though. My husband said his fries were "almost good," but felt his chicken was rather bland as well.

A friend suggested this place one evening, and I was not looking forward to it because I wasn't in the mood for fried chicken. But their salad (chicken with lime vinaigrette) is THE best restaurant salad I've ever had.

Boxcar Betty's was and was not what I expected. I was expecting less "fast food counter" and more "sit down", but I was not disappointed! The inside of the restaurant was very clean and with plenty of seating. The food itself was great! Probably some of the best fried chicken I've had in Charleston (and that's saying something) from a "fast food style" restaurant. I would also recommend the sweet potatoe fries over the regular fries.

Always fast and delicious! Best place to stop for lunch before or after a flight! Sandwiches and fries are delicious. Restaurant is always clean. I will continue making this my go-to for a chicken sandwich!

So much space for activities! Definitely a change of pace from their original store in West Ashley. Tons of indoor space with plenty of parking. The challenge of going into Boxcar Betty's has been removed. The quality remains just as great as the original location. Boxcar Betty's is a local Charleston favorite for fast-casual specialty fried chicken sandwiches that I recommend to out of towners often. The fries order is a bigger side, so if getting a sandwich, maybe share those fries. They also have a option for a portobello mushroom substitution from fried/grilled chicken. Service is fast, with the table number stand they give you. The boxcar Betty and the Not-so-Waffle sandwiches are both great. Enjoy!

I love this Boxcar Betty's! The location is easy to get in and out of, the size and amount of tables is plentiful and the staff is friendly. It's always clean. The food is just as wonderful as the other locations. The chicken is always incredibly juicy and hot, with the toppings and buns tasting so fresh. The regular fries and sweet potato fries are both drool worthy. The fried pickles and fried green tomatoes def top my list of favorites in town. I would highly recommend this location for some of the best chicken sandwiches you've ever had.
