Yelp
High end, high quality 'bar food'
My wife and I ate at Boxcar for the first time for an event with the Santa Fe Foodies group. Yes, it is a sports bar, but the food here is quite good (4.5 out of 5); there is a vast and very interesting menu that features a lot of local food providers. We started with a cup of the "famous Green Chile Beef Stew," which was excellent. The beef did melt in our mouths, the broth was delicious, and the various vegetables and green chile were well worth a try. My wife had the Fish & Chips; they were pretty good but not the best in town (which so far goes to if you can believe it, Bang-Bite food truck). But yes, it is well worth trying if you love Fish & Chips. I had the Ruben Sandwich, which I try often when I see it offered. $23 seemed like a lot, but it was really worth it; this is a superb rendition. The pastrami (not corned beef, according to the waitress) was excellent, moist, and flavorful, and the Sauerkraut was terrific! Great bread and sauce (a take on Russian dressing). I decided to substitute onion rings for the fries; they were huge, crispy, and quite good. We had to try dessert, so we split the Creme Brulee Trio (Strawberry, Chocolate, and traditional). This may have been the best Creme Brulee I've ever had; it's a game changer. Do try it.
Kiki, our server, was excellent, the place was super busy, but she took great care of us. The food came from the kitchen quickly. All in all, I can highly recommend you try Boxcar. We found a good dozen different options on the menu we would love to try in the future.
