Boxcar Review - West End - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"The Lee + White complex on the West End stretch of the Beltline is kind of like an adult playground where you can wander with open containers from brewery to cidery to distillery, visiting tasting rooms and patios while maximizing your day drinking. Eventually, though, you’ll want to break up the beverage crawl with some food and that’s when you head to the Boxcar patio for a lobster roll, some chicken liver pate, or yuzu fried chicken. When you’re ready to get back to drinking, Boxcar has almost 80 draft taps, 30 wine-by-the-glass options, and a cocktail menu mostly made up of spirits from the neighboring ASW Distillery. They also have a “beer cave” with 1,000 packaged beers and 800 bottles of wine, which means that Boxcar is also where we’d like to be stuck during a nuclear war." - Neal Cohen

Packed house thanks to college football, but the service was still excellent. Both the male and female staff were attentive and friendly. I ordered the Monte Cristo, it was perfectly crispy on the outside, with gooey cheese inside, and the fruit compote paired beautifully. A truly wonderful establishment!

Google
Perfect sports bar, great vibe. Happy hour deals are awesome! Burnt ends, sliders, chicken tenders, brussel sprouts all hit the spot. House lager and margaritas were wicked good. Would definitely go back.

Stopped by Boxcar for dinner last night. It was my first time going there. Fish and chips was really good!! I didn't order the sweet potato fries but I decided to roll with it and they were fine 😄

Every experience I’ve had here has been positive. The staff is engaging and give great service. Last night my friend and I were thrilled to find they serve food late (this was about 10:30 on a Thursday). The green Chile Mac n cheese came out missing the pasta! But the bartender quickly fired a remake and it was fantastic. This place always hits for service and simple pleasures of food and beverage, younger crowd usually, nice to have this variety on the plaza.

We went to watch Longhorns vs Buckeyes game. So packed! They were great at accommodating us and we were seated quickly. Food and drinks came out quickly. Drinks were perfect not too strong or too weak. Chicken strips were delicious! Totally recommend this sports bar.

After a long day of flights and walking we stopped in for a drink and ended up staying for dinner. Drinks & food were delicious and our waiter was friendly and helpful. We sat outside since is a mild afternoon and our table was in the shade. The entrance is around the corner from their signage - up a staircase that is not immediately obvious.

Stopped by Boxcar to catch a Premier League match, and I couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Within minutes, they had the game up on one of their screens, and the service throughout was outstanding. Lisa, one of the managers, made sure the sound was on so we could fully enjoy the match, and John, our server, went above and beyond, not only providing excellent service but also recommending a local scenic drive, which turned out to be brilliant. We were traveling with our 2-year-old son and almost hesitated to visit after reading a previous review that suggested it wasn’t kid-friendly. However, I can confidently say that our experience was completely different—they were fantastic with kids. The staff was welcoming and accommodating, making it a comfortable spot for families. Overall, I highly recommend Boxcar for anyone visiting Santa Fe, whether you’re looking to catch a game, enjoy good food, or even if you’re bringing little ones along. It’s a laid-back spot with top-notch service!

Google
The carnitas tacos were really good full of flavor, the guacamole salsa on top was delicious. The margaritas weren’t as great tho, got a lemon drop martini instead which was way better. Don’t think it’s worth waiting in line to get in at night or paying $30 for VIP, went during the afternoon and the bartender was really nice they just didn’t make much conversation.

Yelp
Our server, Ron was incredible! Good food suggestions, promptness and a great sense of humor! Would be delighted to go back and have him as a server again! We had chicken pot pie and tacos and both were fabulous.

Yelp
Super cool restaurant in Santa Fe! After flying from Phoenix to Albuquerque and driving to Santa Fe, we were hungry! I opened up the Yelp app and found boxcar was still open and noticed they had a huge variety of menu items to choose from. I started off with a cup of the fire roasted vegan chili, which was really good. The roasted poblano peppers in this chili gave it some heat and also a lot of flavor. I liked that the chili was organic as I believe organic food just tastes better. For the entree I ordered the veggie burger, which was also really good. It tasted like the burger was made in house and the fixins on the side were fresh and bright. I ordered this with sweet potato waffle fries, which were also REALLY good. They were super crispy and seasoned well.

Yelp
Road-tripped to Santa Fe in February midweek and explored the town & cute shops. It was difficult to find anything open around 2pm on a weekday, but we stumbled across this sports bar. Wanting to get a little tipsy before we walked more, we ordered a few flights and a giant pretzel! The Dark & Dangerous flight was super unique and so was the Fruity & Light flight! The Ex Novo - Kill the Sun was intense and high proof! It did the trick! The pretzel was REAL and thick and bready! The only way to do pretzels in my opinion! Classic slightly elevated bar food with large portions. Service was friendly!

Yelp
This place is a great spot if you are trying to catch a morning sports game. Breakfast menu has great staples and the breakfast burritos were so big we both did not finish them. We had a great server, he said he's there once a week but feels like he's a pro. The bar was so lively for 10am. Great people all around.

Yelp
Came to watch football and it is definitely the spot for watching games and good beers/cocktails. Good environment for a sports bar. Food is okay. Nothing too special. Servers are great!

Yelp
Food was delicious, nice bar and we are in the back room with the fireplace. I have the salmon, green chili burger. So tasty. Spicy and good. Many had the green chili stew and loved it. Highly recommend, lots of menu choices.

Yelp
Came on a whim, will definitely return! Friendliest severs and staff. Excellent knowledge of the menu and beer selection. Sports Bar flare with a woman's touch! Great place to catch a game and have some beers with friends. Huge selection of food!

Yelp
The food was unique, flavorful, and delicious. Arianna, our server, recommended the Cuba Libra Bowl, and the Carrot Cake. Both were amazing and complemented each other nicely. Not too filling, just right. Arianna found the Avalanche game for us on the screen in front of us at the bar and was super sweet. Highly recommend and will come back next time we are in town.

Yelp
Tried the Veal Bolognese and it was a letdown. I still think this place rocks though. My table also had the chicken cordon bleu and it was 3 meals worth of sandwich. The bolognese was chewy, not aldente. The sauce was not refined enough. Lesson learned.

Yelp
- open late - lots of TVs - fast service - one of the few dancing spots in SF - spacious you can be in the mix, or do your own thing

Yelp
I was in Santa Fe this past holiday weekend and my cuzin and I decided to head to Downtown and have a drink or two. She's been to Boxcar before but at their previous location. Boxcar was a lot of fun and nice and warm inside too since it was snowing during our visit. We decided to go with the loaded chicken nachos, a couple of beers and a shot of tequila for me =P The nachos were ahhhhmazing, chicken, bean, lots of cheese, hatch green chili ( a must when in NM), guacamole, and sour cream. I decided try their lager and it was alright, my 2nd beer was a Modelo. The restaurant was also very lively on Saturday. A lot of TVs and college football, fans hooting and hollering. Bathroom was very clean. Javier was our server and he was very chill and served with a smile. Whenever I go back to Santa Fe, I'll definitely stop in to watch a game and throw back a cold one.

Yelp
If I could give -5 stars I would. We were really looking forward to a good meal. Bus boy gave us water. We waited about 10 minutes and then I flagged down a waitress who gave a BS excuse about shift change and said she would find our server. We waited another 10 minutes when no one came we asked for a manager at the bar and was told one would be coming- decided not to waste any additional time - Sip the box car - not worth wasting your time.

Yelp
We had just arrived into town and and we were a little hungry so we decided to come here for meal. The place was all opened up so whether you sat inside or on the patio, you felt a nice breeze. It is a sports bar so plenty of TV's to see all around. Justin was our server and he was very good. He is the reason I am giving four stars to this review. I really enjoyed drinking the ExNove Extra Time Red Ale. I have always preferred a red ale and it is hard to find a place that serves one. When I saw it on the menu, I had to have one and this was was exceptionally tasty. I wish I could say my food was good but it just wasn't. I might have ordered the wrong thing but I figured you really can't mess up chicken fingers right?? The chicken was hot but it tasted like it had been sitting for a while. The tots were good though. My daughter enjoyed her Impossible Burger with a side of chili which was definitely New Mexican style. Quite a kick! If I returned I would try a different meal but would still have a tasty brew.

Yelp
We were traveling through Santa Fe and decided to try a new restaurant instead of hitting up our regular go to places. We got seated on the patio right away. We ordered the bang bang shrimp and the salmon burger and fries to share. The order came out quick and was hot. The bang bang shrimp was delicious. The shrimp were large and just right for an appetizer. The blackened salmon burger lacked a little in the seasoning, but it was tasty, the fries were right on point and delicious. Overall the meal was great and the service was ok. Our waiter had a lot of tables on the patio and took a little time getting our check.

Yelp
It's the place with delicious burgers and open late in Fanta Se. love it here, truffle fries are so delicious! Sorry no images to show! JUsT go!

Yelp
We wanted to wind down with some cold drinks and after walking around looking for a good watering hole- we found this place. Quick neat martini for me and vodka tonic for him- we were cool. Service at the bar was great, and the ambiance was quiet for a Tuesday afternoon. Good place to quench your thirst. 4.4 stars ( only because they didn't have my favorite gin).

Yelp
Boxcar catered the recent opening gala for the New Mexico Museum Foundation. I was really impressed with their tasty array of passed-around noshes, which included chicken skewers with a barbecue sauce, potstickers, rice balls, spicy shrimp, and savory empanadas. Their service was first-class, too.

Yelp
We shared a green chili cheeseburger with truffle fries. It was cooked to perfection the way we like it. The truffle fries had great flavor. Overall service was great! Our server was attentive to us and was a pleasure to be around.

Yelp
We stopped by Boxcar for a late lunch,. I had the Green chili stew which was delicious and the wife had the chicken club which she liked a lot. The local Boxcar brew hit the spot after a long morning of walking around Santa Fe. The most impressive thing though was the service. Brittany was our server and she really took great care of us. They were having a fund raiser later for the local animal shelter, but we couldn't attend.
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
The atmosphere was fantastic with fast and friendly service. We tried the green chili stew, poppers, and wings. The live music on the patio added to the ambiance without being too loud. The poppers, in particular, were outstanding, fried tempura style and incredibly tasty. It's a great spot to relax with a cocktail in the afternoon.

Yelp
Margarita flight Strawberry, mezcal, mango, passion fruit So yummy! Would definitely come back!

Yelp
The service was pretty chill and slow. It took a long time to get a water refill. I'm sure it's annoying to order it instead of other drinks. We ordered chicken tenders with fries as an appetizer. I ordered the cheese melt and the vegan chili. It was good! Anything with green chilis is amazing! Haha, it's the secret ingredient here in NM. My youngest so had a single smash burger with tots. My husband had a double smash burger with onion rings. My oldest son had the burger with bacon, egg, cheese and fries. $88 without tip. As someone else said, it's pricy better quality bar food.
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
Talk about a lively spot. Had a fab time dancing the night away to the live music. Couldn't have picked a better post dinner spot.

Nizhoni D.

Yelp
Great food, great service. Ariana remembered my drink of choice after just one visit. Cheers to Boxcar.

Yelp
A fun sports bar and a rare late night option in Santa Fe, this spot filled the gap for us on a recent Sunday night. Taking a green chile break, I enjoyed my straightforward Caesar salad accompanied by fried avocado bites. Feeling adventurous, we even enjoyed a little bit of karaoke in the back room, enjoying the best of Santa Fe's amateur talent. A fun and no-frills late night spot in the city.

Ilse G.

Yelp
Lain always makes me and my girls our favorite drink a "salty bitch" always punctual with our orders always so friendly and joyful. I really recommend coming to Bogar for a great night and ask for lain! Thank you

Yelp
Lain was awesome she was so friendly I loved the salty bi*** she makes a drink great customer service

Yelp
New location is great! You enter through a Plaza and go upstairs, so a little tricky to find. The jalapeño poppers are killer amazing!! They are fresh, huge, and bacon wrapped!! When you hear about how they create them, you can understand the huge price. They are handmade every day. Service was wonderful and all staff very friendly!
google avatar

Paul G.

Yelp
This is a real sports bar and likely the only one in town. It is located upstairs. Perhaps 20 TVs. It is always busy. Old and young crowd. Beers on tap. Beer and food is relatively in expensive. It has a central bar. There was karaoke going on in the back which was partitioned off. Staff were nice. Good place to watch sports.

Yelp
Ariana was a great server, food was amazing...Santa fe's only late night food spot.. Will return definitely

Yelp
Went there with friends from work. We ordered happy hour margaritas, which were great for happy hour! We ordered wings, buffalo sliders, and bang bang shrimp! It was all great and I will definitely order the bang bang shrimp the next time I visit! Our waiter was so helpful and went out of his way to accomplish us. It is a great sports bar atmosphere, when wanting spirits, good food and watching any type of sports!

Yelp
I had an unpleasant experience at Boxcar in Santa Fe that I feel compelled to share. This establishment seems to have embraced an overly "woke" environment, which, in my case, turned into a nightmare when I was unjustly treated for defending myself in a very uncomfortable situation. To give some context, I was at the bar enjoying my night when a group of individuals who identified as transgender began to make inappropriate advances, including groping. I made it clear that I was not comfortable with the situation and stood up for myself. Rather than supporting me or addressing the harassment, the staff at Boxcar immediately kicked me out. Their response? They sided with the individuals who were making unwanted advances, accusing me of being intolerant. It's disappointing that a place that claims to be inclusive and progressive would treat a paying customer so poorly when they stand up for their personal boundaries. Instead of providing a safe environment for everyone, they seem to prioritize the feelings of those who engage in inappropriate behavior. In my opinion, this is an example of how "woke" culture can go too far and backfire, leaving people who just want to enjoy a night out without being harassed feeling alienated and unsupported. If you're looking for a place that genuinely respects personal boundaries and values mutual respect, I'd recommend staying clear of Boxcar. The atmosphere may be trendy, but it's not a place where you can count on fair treatment if you find yourself in an uncomfortable or unsafe situation. In short, Boxcar seems to have lost sight of what it means to create a truly welcoming space for all--one where everyone's rights and personal dignity are respected. It's a shame because Santa Fe deserves better than this.

Yelp
We just stopped in for a drink and appetizers as we were killing time before a reservation at another place. The menu looked so good and every plate that came out of the kitchen was big and looked delicious. Can't wait to come back and try a full meal here! We just had the chips with salsa, guacamole and queso and all three were great! Nice sports bar that wasn't too loud with a great menu. I will review again after I eat there but I don't think the stars will change as I was very impressed with the small taste we had.

Dawn S.

Yelp
Excellent game bowl day at Boxcar. Great staff. Great food! Highly recommed! Happy New year! Awesome!

Yelp
Great pretzel! The only place open after SF Opera, but it was good. Good service. Had lunch here recently. I had surf and turf tacos and they were delicious.

Yelp
Yooooo this food SLAPS! They have a huge space and I went for Wednesday karaoke which was super fun but damn everyone was so talented! The service was great and the servers were very quick and kind and attentive. But the main thing is the food. Holy crap it's so good! I got the fried pickles, which aren't anything unusual but they're good and fresh and the breading is very light, which is something I look for in fried pickles. Because you can eat so much of it. The highlight was the fried chicken strips. They're so big and juicy and fresh! The outside is the perfect crunch and inside is the perfect softness and juiciness. I dream about them all the time. I will always be back for those chicken strips.

Yelp
High end, high quality 'bar food' My wife and I ate at Boxcar for the first time for an event with the Santa Fe Foodies group. Yes, it is a sports bar, but the food here is quite good (4.5 out of 5); there is a vast and very interesting menu that features a lot of local food providers. We started with a cup of the "famous Green Chile Beef Stew," which was excellent. The beef did melt in our mouths, the broth was delicious, and the various vegetables and green chile were well worth a try. My wife had the Fish & Chips; they were pretty good but not the best in town (which so far goes to if you can believe it, Bang-Bite food truck). But yes, it is well worth trying if you love Fish & Chips. I had the Ruben Sandwich, which I try often when I see it offered. $23 seemed like a lot, but it was really worth it; this is a superb rendition. The pastrami (not corned beef, according to the waitress) was excellent, moist, and flavorful, and the Sauerkraut was terrific! Great bread and sauce (a take on Russian dressing). I decided to substitute onion rings for the fries; they were huge, crispy, and quite good. We had to try dessert, so we split the Creme Brulee Trio (Strawberry, Chocolate, and traditional). This may have been the best Creme Brulee I've ever had; it's a game changer. Do try it. Kiki, our server, was excellent, the place was super busy, but she took great care of us. The food came from the kitchen quickly. All in all, I can highly recommend you try Boxcar. We found a good dozen different options on the menu we would love to try in the future.
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
Large open area for seating and plenty of tables. There is no air conditioning so find a good spot under a fan on a hot day. The service was attentive and polite but got different parts of our drinks and food order wrong. The food was really good and tasted fresh. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and side Caesar. The Cuban was tasty with good slaw on it and the salad was fresh and crisp. I did not order the bao buns with pork belly but I did try them and they were delicious.
google avatar

Eddie S.

Yelp
Went from 5 stars to 3, only because the food is good. I used to go 3 to 6 times a week. For 3 months they would serve an extra tortilla with taco. Now they charge $1,50 for ONE extra tortilla that costs about $0.06. Will only go back maybe once a week, only if I feel like getting ripped off

Julie D.

Yelp
We went on Thanksgiving and I have to say that their entire crew spent the night making sure everyone was having a great time. It was great to be somewhere where the staff was so engaged with the customers. Food was great - it was hard to decide! We so enjoyed the atmosphere.
google avatar

Donna S.

Yelp
Very disappointed. They moved &took my FAVORITE lemon chicken off the menu. I come to Boxcar craving that dish. It's the best "chicken picatta" in town. Or WAS. They are still charging their menu... I'll check back in a couple months to see if they've come to their senses. New space seems huge...9400sqft & will be able to hold multiple events at once. And a 50 seat bar! And 32 televisions coming! But without lemon chicken, I won't be back. A lot more touristy that other location. Which is financially better for them (& I heard they had legal issues with the old location so I guess they had to move )
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
Had lunch on a weekday. Large seating area with charging plugs at bar seating. Varied menu and food was tasty. Service friendly. Nice place for food and drinks near Plaza.

scott c.

Yelp
Nothing to write home about food wise. It was so-so bar food. We ate there only because we were having a hard time finding a place opened after 9pm on a Tuesday in downtown Santa Fe. Nachos were simply bland and seemed like everything was processed, certainly not home made for sure. Friend got three tacos which she said were bland and flavorless. I had a bowl of green chili stew and it was quite good! That is the main reason I gave the place three stars, otherwise it would have been two. Service was a bit slow but there were a lot of tables with people there and I only saw one guy server doing his best to handle all the tables. All in all, meh.

Chris A.

Yelp
Good food, fun atmosphere, one of the few non-Mexican food choices we could find in the area. The meals were served quickly and all of them were good. Were I in the area again, I would definitely return.
google avatar

Victoria E.

Yelp
Yummy lunch and cocktails. Great service and fun patio to enjoy. Tiki hubby and I shared green chili burger with both sweet potato waffle fries and tater tots. Food great. Our waitress was so sweet and cocktails yummy.

Angelica L.

Yelp
Best salty b**ch ever Lain is the best !! It was delicious and she's so sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Meh. Food-meh. Drinks-worse than Meh. Service-meh. There were adequate tvs. That is the best I can say.

Yelp
We came for breakfast and arrived late. Cutoff time was 1pm and Bianca our waitress accommodated us with our breakfast request. We enjoyed our meal so much we ended up staying a few hours to watch the games and eat more food. We enjoyed the restaurant and the service and meal recommendations we received from Bianca which made our outing enjoyable. We will definitely be back and will be asking for Bianca.

Mary R.

Yelp
Bianca was great! Helpful and led us to delicious choices! I loved the green chile grilled cheese!
