Brasserie Of Light - Review - Marylebone - London - The Infatuation

"Having a mythical creature as a pet would be amazing. Lighter? Nah, but we’ve got a dragon mate. You could wake up, roll out of bed, and your unicorn could fly you clear over the North Circular, farting glitter as it goes. Commute sorted. Sounds fantastic. But in reality that dragon would be a nightmare to feed. And we have absolutely no idea how we’d hide that unicorn from our landlord. It’s all very nice in theory, but in reality it would be a complete and utter mess. Which brings us onto Brasserie Of Light, a very shiny all day restaurant inside Selfridges. It’s got an opulent looking bar, huge people watching potential, and a casual 24 foot crystal encrusted pegasus. As a distant fantasy, it looks like the kind of magnificently tacky place where you get drunk on passion fruit cocktails, then mount that pegasus like it’s your own personal Seabiscuit ready to trot you off to the Piccadilly Institute. In reality though, this is a restaurant where you’ll spend a lot of time pushing some lukewarm goat’s cheese around your plate before finally admitting you’ve just spent some serious money on a bad meal. The menu is basically a bit of everything, from everywhere, tasting of nothing, with something pointless added on top. Do you really want truffle on a chicken dumpling? Or a light cheese foam on an asparagus tortellini? No? But doesn’t it make it sound like we’re not charging you through the roof for some tarted up pub grub? Plus, there’s nothing quite like eating a bang-average hamburger over a mirrored table. It’s nice to watch your reflection’s disappointment in real time. All this before ordering a meringue and passion fruit dessert called ‘Butterfly Flutterby’ that robs you of any remaining dignity. The thing is, when you first walk in to Brasserie of Light you might be impressed. It’s like Black Beauty ran away, got discovered, had a wing job, and decided to open a restaurant. Honestly, if you’d brought us here at the height of our My Little Pony phase we probably would have had a coronary and fallen head first into someone’s pathetic shrimp and avocado burger. We can’t think of many reasons to come here though, even if you happen to already be in Selfridges. But if you are lured in by all the shimmer, you should just order a starter, snap some pictures of Crystal Pegs, and have a laugh at all the ludicrousness around you. Because, really, Brasserie of Light is a place for people who’d rather say ‘look at the diamante on that’ than eat a decent meal. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Zucchini Fritti You get a big portion of this very snackable fried starter, which is perfect, because it might be the only thing you eat. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli Warm Goat’s Cheese, Beetroot, And Horseradish Salad Salad: noun - a cold dish of various mixtures of raw or cooked vegetables. Yeah, give us some spinach, or a little broccoli, we’ll even take some iceberg lettuce. Give. Us. The. Green. Stuff. We feel cheated. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli Burrata, Smoked Tomato, Aubergine, And Baby Basil Some so-so burrata that arrives with a dramatic smoke display. Looks moderately exciting. Smells like your drunk ambition to make cheese fondue in the microwave. Spaghettini With Lobster Almost 30 quid for a bit of tasteless lobster and pasta. Honestly, if an ex-server pops up with a tell all in two months to reveal this is an elaborate diet scheme to ensure the sample size clothes in Selfridges keep selling, we wouldn’t be surprised. Good for them though. We want to believe that food this bad is the result of an entrepreneurial spirit. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli Shrimp And Avocado Burger We can only presume that this stale bun and dollop of avocado paste situation costs £17.50 because they’re still paying off the interior design team’s crystal budget. The good news is that it comes with a large tasteless cracker. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli Butterfly Flutterby Sounds like the latest fashion in pubic hair, actually tastes quite decent. That being said, no human adult should ever have to utter the words ‘can I get the butterfly flutterby please’, so no matter how much we liked the pomegranate and meringue, our pride says no. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli Pegasus Pie Nothing like a fancy dessert to remind you of the horse meat scandal. This is not tasty. The sesame biscuit wings are pointless. And after careful office debate, we can confidently state that this is not even a pie. Alliteration be damned, this is, at best, a crumble. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Absolutely magical experience at the Pegasus Room! From start to finish, our experience in the beautiful Pegasus Room was simply delightful. We were warmly welcomed by the lovely receptionist, Chiara, who led us to a stunning table in a room full of light and air, with the magnificent silver Pegasus watching over us. The food was outstanding — a perfectly cooked, juicy burger, accompanied by a glass of fantastic, bubbly Italian wine, and finished with the most flavourful, fresh, and creamy ice cream. Every single element was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The highlight of our visit was our superb waitress, Rosaria — a true 5-star professional in the dining world. Her warmth, attention to detail, and effortless professionalism elevated the entire experience. Thank you for making our visit so memorable — we can’t wait to return!

I was surprised at how affordable the menu was and how quality and fresh the food was given the rather low price. I had the vegan burger which was honestly one of the best I’ve had in Central London. I also had the ravioli which were good but not wow. However the staff surprised me a bit; lack of friendliness from our main waiter; unwillingness to find a compromise to change one of the sides in the meal and no attention to us once we were served. The manager and other main people were nice. Atmosphere and decoration is main reason to come for sure but the food was better than expected. I’d come back.

I had an amazing experience at Brasserie of Light. Went for dinner with a friend and we were welcomed with a very polite smile. They took our jackets to to the cloakroom and our waitress was great too. The food was exquisite. We asked for suggestions being that I coeliac and require gluten free and it was one of the best meals in a long time.

The interior is absolutely gorgeous and the service was kind and attentive. The food was decent — nicely presented and fresh — but I felt something was missing in the overall taste. Still, a pleasant experience in a beautiful setting.

I had an amazing experience thanks to KAMIL. They were not only incredibly skilled at mixing drinks, but also made everyone at the bar feel welcome and taken care of. The cocktails were perfectly balanced and crafted with real attention to detail. What stood out most was their friendly attitude and ability to keep the energy up even when it was busy. You can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do. Highly recommend grabbing a seat at the bar when KAMIL is working—you’ll be in great hands. Cheers!

Everything we ordered was delicious! The service felt like we were private dining - Petros was our waitor and he gave the best recommendations, in addition to the attentive service. Highly recommend the mushroom rice bowl, pea ravioli, chicken milanese. The sourdough bread was perfection.

Google
Lovely experience. The cocktails were lovely and I would definitely go back for more of them. We ordered chips and the chicken salad and it was delicious. We had a wonderful experience but our food did come out before our drinks. The service was mediocre but the food and drinks are worth going back for. The bathrooms were also very aesthetic. We ordered 4 drinks in total.

Yelp
Located inside and upstairs of the Selfridge building, Brasserie of Light was an elevated dining experience for breakfast. The staff treated us very well, and the space is beautiful. Everyone enjoyed their food, but I gave to rave about the Eggs Benedict. The meat was very flavorful, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I would give the Bloody Mary an 8/10. For what it's worth, they have one of the nicest bathrooms, so it's worth taking a look. Underlooked spot, so more people should try it!

Yelp
located on the second floor of selfridges, this spot has a vibey Asian cuisine..it felt really elevated inside. The food was good! Just average in my opinion and nothing to phone home to...had the bang bang chicken salad which was tasty.

Yelp
This was a great spot for an elevated experience. We made reservations for a late afternoon seating and seated in the central part of the restaurant. We had the following items: -Plymouth (cocktail) -Halloumi Open Sandwich (main) -Chocolate Bubbles (dessert) The Plymouth was a nice cocktail that wasn't too sweet, but had good balanced flavors, especially with the elderflower. The halloumi sandwich was more of an avocado toast, with halloumi - still good, but it really had a lot of avocado...it tasted great! The dessert was very chocolatey...I liked the emphasis on chocolate rather than sweetness; perfect for a shared dish. The service was warm and attentive. People have mentioned the price point for the food...yes, it's expensive, but you go for the experience. If you're looking for something unique and different, this is a good place to visit.

Yelp
Amazing view, great service- extensive and expensive elegant and simple vegan offerings. I've eaten here a couple of times and always really enjoyed it.

Yelp
This place was utterly mediocre. The staff was not particularly friendly or attentive, we had to seek out and flag down our server multiple times. The miso cod was good, but I found about five bones in it. Also, we had two entrees and two sides and were not given any side plates for the sides. The broccolini side was cold (and before you ask, I don't think it was supposed to be). It wasn't bad, it was just very underwhelming.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick bite and ended up staying for hours and it was not because we enjoyed the food and ambiance so much we didn't want to leave. The service was scattershot and dreadfully slow and because the staff seemed to be interchangeable, they got the orders wrong or forgot to bring them altogether. In between the chaos and neglect I did manage to eat a delicious salmon over couscous. For that, I give the Brasserie of Light three stars.

Yelp
Just a short note of THANKS for employing such a stuck-up snotty and unhelpful hostess today - on my wife's birthday request for a nice table at your Restaurant. Thanks to your Horrible Hostess, we took our business upstairs to Aubaine upstairs and had the most amazing lunch with endless bottles of champagne joined by so many friends who loved it too. The bill was Large but it was worth it - especially knowing that none of that very large check went towards your very rude staff who will never earn our business. So thanks again for showing us the Light: It's upstairs!!

Yelp
Stopped in here for a mint hot chocolate while I waited for the Selfridges to open. I'm so glad that I did. It was beautiful inside and served a delicious and gorgeous drink to me. Thank you!! Highly recommend the mint hot chocolate.

Yelp
This restaurant is brand new and beautiful, but still has some kinks to work out. We came here to celebrate our anniversary, but the tables were so close together that there was no privacy. Also, the music was too loud to talk, maybe because of the DJ that night. The service was extremely slow at times, I don't think they have enough staff because the people next to us complained about service as well. For food, I liked the starters but the mains were average. My husband had flat iron chicken which I thought tasted dry and flavorless. My vegetarian dish of polenta was good but felt heavy in sugar/carbs so I skipped dessert. The popcorn prawn and risotto balls starters were nice. I think this would be a great place for lunch or to sit at the bar for drinks, but I would not dine in the restaurant for dinner.

Yelp
Outstanding Everything was fabulous from the food to the service and the decor. Love the Damien Hirst Pegasus - Very Impressive. You must go, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Nothing about the meal and experience disappointed. Went there for a business lunch for 8 people. The bread is amazing, highly recommend for the table. I had the vegetable rice paper rolls to start which were light enough and had no surprises. Really fresh and simple. Then had the the shrimp and avocado burger which was unexpectedly very tasty and just the right amount. A few of us also got the bang bang chicken salad and gave it rave reviews. Truly no complaints during the whole meal. The wait staff is very professional and seamless. The space has high ceilings with floor to ceiling windows and a giant Pegasus over the dining room. Really beautiful. Would absolutely go again for lunch with coworkers and friends.

Yelp
This place is over the top. The decor, and even doorman, or quite a sight to behold. The first thing you see when you come in is that the doorman is dressed in shards of mirror. Then inside the restaurant, there is a white sparkly unicorn mounted on the ceiling, mirrors everywhere, Crystal lights, mirrored glass table tops, and more. The food was decent, but honestly, nothing to write home about. The vegetable rolls, or poorly wrapped, so loose that the insides almost fell out when eating them. And honestly the sauce was a little bit too watery and bland. The burrata was decent, but a tiny portion. The sesame chicken starter was good but quite flavorless, despite dipping it in a heavy dose of the avocado sauce. I ordered the lobster linguine, which again was just average. Their drink menu, especially the cocktails, we're pretty good. I tried to of the GEN cocktails, both decent. Overall,I'd go here for a drink or happy hour, but probably not for a full meal.

Yelp
It takes time for new restaurants to find their feet. This one is very nearly there and highly recommended. The breakfast is delicious and great value and the lunch is also delicious and reasonable value too. As part of The Le Caprice Group this holds its mast high and the quality and presentation of food is excellent. However be warned , not all of it is very healthy. The Bang Bang Chicken Salad was deep fried chicken, fried won tons and covered in a very sticky sweet dressing. It was not the soft chicken breast that you may expect. Despite this I feel they provide an excellent service and even though are connected to Selfridges it provides a beautiful Art Deco surrounding with a very cool shopping centre to stroll about pre and post meal.

Yelp
I initially loved this place such cool decor, good service and food HOWEVER going there on a Saturday night is a whole other ball game! Loud DJ, bad service, cold food, small portions plus they got my order wrong so had to send it back!! It wasn't all that great when I got it the second time - hamburger dripping in mayo! So disappointing - it was my birthday and I felt very let down. Tried to talk to manager but he just listened stoned faced to our experience and did nothing about it!!

Jeffrey D.

Yelp
I've dined as brasserie of light 3 times. Once when it first opened and twice in mid December. All three experiences were great. Sure, it's a bit pretentious and exclusive (in terms of getting seated or a reservation) but I truly cannot say anything bad about the service or food, as myself, as well as my guests all enjoyed it immensely. Not to mention the interior is stunning and beyond chic

Ifeanyi A.

Yelp
This restaurant is racist. So rude! They refused to let me and my friend sit at the bar even though there were two free seats, instead offering the seats to a group of three who were waiting for a fourth even though they said they'd rather stand! They had to wait so long they left before getting a table, and it's only then that the waitress turns to us and says, "I GUESS you can sit here now." Avoid this place if you're not white, because I GUESS the whites are the only ones they'll serve

Tammy M.

Yelp
Got food poisoning from their lobster and pasta dish and they refused to acknowledge it or comp me for it. Beautiful decor but food is average at best.
