Why a New York Bread Factory Wants to Ensure Everyone a Loaf of Bread | Eater

"Founded in 1983 by the CEO's father, this bakery now produces about 150,000 loaves a week, with most production in a newer factory in Kingston, NY while the original Boiceville site—home to two rare wood-fired brick ovens built by multi-generation French oven mason Andre LeFort—remains in use and is treated as cultural as well as company history. Under CEO Nels Leader the mission has shifted from chasing the 'perfect loaf' to feeding many people and bringing simple, nourishing bread (flour, water, salt) to a wider community; the business supplies loaves and pastries to numerous Hudson Valley cafés. The original facility has been converted toward carbon-neutral operation by electrifying all systems and installing 600 kilowatts of solar to meet the building's needs." - Avery Dalal

Climate Change Is Making Bakeries Even Hotter | Eater

"Founded in upstate New York in 1983 and now producing roughly 30,000 loaves daily across three facilities, this larger bakery has pursued comprehensive sustainability and resilience measures: it earned Climate Neutral certification (the first North American bakery to do so), installed energy-efficient Heuft ovens that use thermal oil, is converting facilities to solar power, and added a chilled filtered water system on the production floor to encourage hydration. Under CEO Nels Leader the company is targeting 100% renewable energy by 2030 and uses Climate Neutral’s benchmarking to prioritize emissions-reduction investments—positioning itself as a model for industrial-scale adaptation to rising temperatures." - Deborah Reid

Bread Alone Bakery Review - The Catskills - New York - The Infatuation

"Hot tip: In addition to their Woodstock outpost, Bread Alone also has a takeout location right on Route 28 in Boiceville (between Phoenicia and Kingston) where you can pick up an excellent breakfast sandwich on your way home and pet some wandering chickens who are partly responsible for your egg sandwich." - Team Infatuation

Great place with high-quality ingredients, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere — plus it’s pet-friendly on the lovely outside terrace! We stopped by on our way to the Catskills and enjoyed the avocado toast with an egg and their Healthy wholegrains bread — both were delicious, especially the bread. We also ordered a slice of chocolate pound cake, but unfortunately, it was missing from our shopping bag when we got home. Not sure what happened, but everyone was very kind, especially the tall lady tending to the flowers outside. The whole place feels clean, fresh, and brand new. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re passing through!

Really nice coffee snack place. Pizza in the next building. Facilities were very new modern and well kept. Plenty of outdoor seating and pet friendly. The poppyseed cake was really good.

Bread Alone – Boiceville We stopped here after our go-to diner had too long a wait, and it ended up being a great choice. I got the spicy green egg sandwich with chorizo, and it was fantastic—flavorful, well-balanced, and just the right amount of heat. Even though the place was busy, it was well-organized, very clean, and the staff kept things running smoothly. Everyone was friendly, and the whole vibe was welcoming. Definitely a solid spot whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or hanging out a bit before getting back on the road. Highly recommended!

Stopped in for coffee originally but decided to grab something to eat. Who knew something as simple as an egg and cheese sandwich which smashed avocado could be so incredible? I will be going back again before we head back home from this trip. Also, unrelated really, but I loved the colorful tiles in the bathroom.

Loved the ambience and will definitely be back. Went here after camping in the area. Delightful service. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood there. Two things though…. We got a breakfast burrito and a lemon poppy seed pound cake. The pound cake was dry and our lunch order was wrong (burrito, was good though). They did give us two slices of pound cake because the worker thought they were cut too slim. And the burrito was good. It took a bit long for our burrito though…It was also packed up but we said it was for dining in. Coffee was good. We sat outside and really enjoyed the outdoor seating. I’ll be back from the pleasant workers and ambience though.

Google
Stopped in to see what they had and grabbed a loaf of sesame sourdough, carrot cake, and a chocolate chunk cookie. Desserts were delicious, crust of the bread was a bit overdone which made it tough but the flavor was great. Going to stop back and try a different type before we leave.

I had been looking forward to visiting Bread Alone Bakery for some time. Today, I finally had the chance and ordered the Spicy Green Egg Sandwich to go. However, upon opening it in my car, I found a burnt, dry sandwich lacking any spiciness. It consisted of two fried eggs, a small amount of arugula, and a long piece of scallion. It was too late for me to turn around and return it. The burnt bread was inedible, so I had to discard it and was left with just the eggs and arugula. Given that bread is their specialty, this was really disappointing.

Yelp
Absolutely best sandwich's we have ever had and that's saying a lot because we are from Long Island! Couldn't decide on just one so got the spicy egg w/chorizo and the pulled pork w/bacon! You must try it just like that!

Yelp
As a sustainable freak, we were super excited to visit this earth friendly location. So charming and rustic - tons of indoor and outdoor seating. Family and pet friendly. Great if you're passing through or want to spend a bit at a cafe. Got the tempeh Reuben, Turkey Reuben (such unique combos), and beef sandwich. Also got coffee and chocolate chip cookies for the road. Clean bathrooms and free WiFi. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Nice breakfast stop with a lot of bread and baked good options. The ricotta toast was amazing and we got a few pastries including the lemon poppy pound cake which was very good! The Woodstock location seems to be a very busy spot but they got us right through the line and we did not wait long for our food. The only down side is the lack of seating inside as it is a smaller building.

Yelp
I've seen their stalks at a few farmers markets in the city so I was really excited to stop by their actual location. The exterior and interior were so aesthetic - rusty modern is how I'd describe it. I got a few things to try here and everything was delicious. I particularly liked my cardamom bun - I'll look forward to stopping by again next time!

Yelp
We visited Bread Alone on our second visit to the Catskills. We had come to the region just after the pandemic to experience Rail Explorers (see my review) and said we must return to the area. After getting a beautiful Airbnb in Boiceville, we were back! Bread Alone was a five-minute drive from where we were staying and it's certainly a must-see! We visited this location twice during our stay. Our first visit wasn't as good as our second. During our first visit we felt rushed though by the attendant, even though we were the only ones in line. There's so many things to consider, being rushed takes away from the experience. We ordered a canele, an almond croissant, and a morning bun. Things were packed messily. Everything was delicious, especially the canele. Our second visit was much smoother. Our attendant was friendly and patient. She packed our items delicately and showed a lot of care. We got a berry tart, a pecan sticky bun, an eclair and some egg sandwiches. Everything was absolutely delicious. We wish we had a Bread Alone where we live!

Grace P.

Yelp
Food - Ordered the Salmon Works bagel sandwich and it was packed full of flavor! Bagel was fresh and delicious. Spicy Egg sandwich was small but mighty - super tasty but not a honking portion. Coffee delicious and tasted wonderful, definitely not watered down junk. Service - Wonderful! We ordered ahead online which save time waiting in line. One of the items we ordered online wasn't available so they easily took off the item from our bill, refunded us, and had everything set before we arrived. Highly recommend ordering ahead online! Website is super easy to use and very convenient. Ambiance - beautiful! Inside was nice and cool with plenty of seating. Nice music. Everything super clean and maintained. Beautiful aesthetic. Would love to return to try more of the menu!

Yelp
Being the first carbon neutral bakery in the USA is quite the impressive feat! I've been wanting to eat at a Bread Alone cafe for a while and recently was able to visit their redone Earth-friendly Boiceville location. Bread Alone has been around since 1983, and their loaves can even be found in NYC groceries and greenmarkets.  The brownie ($4.50), a collaboration with nearby Fruition Chocolate, was incredible. A gooey rich marvel, in a desirable state between a solid and a liquid. After savoring the last morsel, I immediately considered purchasing another one.  I ordered the roasted pork sandwich ($14) which was also impressive. Besides the pork, there's Hawthorne Valley curtido (Googling informs me that it's a fermented veggie slaw from El Salvador), pimenton aioli, cheddar, and arugula, all inserted into ciabatta. It's just the sandwich size was a little light for the price tag. Or if there were a small side or something, that would've been nice. Free seltzer was available--yes!  There were a billion dogs here. At times, I wasn't sure if I were at a bakery or a dog park. Yappy dogs inside the hard surface-filled cafe do not a good combo make. Also, even if we're outside, please do not walk your dog near me while I'm eating, thanks.

Yelp
Totally OK. Cool if you are not hungry or have any plans for an hour. 30 minute ticket time on cold made to order sandwiches. Manager hiding in the corner during peaks in service. Silly place to spend money.

Yelp
I really enjoyed two meals here. First was a bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. You can tell the ingredients were fresh, and showcased their baked good, the croissant perfectly. It was butter and delicious. The next day I had the chicken tarragon sandwich, which also had some amazing bread (a ciabatta). The only complaint was the amount of chicken and other ingredients, leaving only a small layer of the insides, as seen in the picture. It was adequate, but a bit small for my taste. I took home a spelt and whole wheat loaf of bread. The server recommended this one because of the unique flavor of the grain combination. I enjoyed bread and butter for a week, amazing bread, with Irish butter (there is not better way to enjoy high-quality break, in my opinion). This place is a truly exceptional bakery, and worth the visit!

Yelp
I really enjoy this location of Bread Alone. It's large, with lots of opportunities for outdoor seating. Menus should be made available before you wait on line, so you can think about what you want to order before reaching the register. Some servers are cranky, some are friendly. The food is good. Our standing order is a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on fresh baked brioche and the breakfast burrito. Yum! Last time we were there, an employee brought my dog a bowl of water which he greatly appreciated.

Yelp
If you are not familiar with Bread Alone think a Panera bread on a wholesome non-corporate level. If you are familiar with Bread alone then you are probably aware they closed the location in the Kingston area when this location opened up. The biggest problem with the old location was parking. Well nothing has changed. This parking lot is just as horrific. There is street parking but that gets filled up as well. They are very proud to be one of the first carbon neutral bakeries in the country. Unfortunately I don't think they took into account the 3-4 cars at all times (even more on weekends) idling waiting for a parking spot. But hey Carbon neutral blah blah blah Billy Idol says don't idle in your Audi/BMW/Porsche/Land Rover and of course Subaru. Tesla's get a pass for obvious reasons. But as for the actual place. It's Bread Alone with a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. You either love it or hate it. Bonus points for when the pizza stand is open. One bite score....8.1

Bill B.

Yelp
horrible customer service and major attitude issues from the "regular" worker to the manager. Just horrible. Been stopping by over the years. That won't happen again. Good luck with the new building too. Your architect didn't think out the floor plan well at all but I guess the owner was ok with it, go figure. More seating outside than inside. That works "great" when it's 10 degree's outside right? I liked the old place better and the bread was better too.

Yelp
Big venue just off the highway. Near to the edge of the lake. Big car park, and lots of outdoor seating, plus big umbrellas. We went for brunch / lunch, they also have a bakery with buns, cakes, pasties etc. also they have small cups with fizzy and flat water on tap.

Yelp
What a disappointment. This place has increasingly become a disappointment. First started going to this location years ago, they had a good selection of pastries, good coffee, and pretty good quality products. After this location was fully renovated (old building torn down and now it's a brand new building) Bread Alone became a huge let down. The pastries are now just down to some muffins and eclairs... whereas years past they had a good amount of different bread types and would slice it one the spot and a lot of different pastries. Now it's barely anything there and last time I was there, there was no bread. Second, they have these bottled "organic" juices that are nothing more than different Minute Maid types of drinks made from concentrate which are all disgusting and tbh overpriced. Third, coffee is mid now, used to be better.
google avatar

Colin S.

Yelp
When I was in the area visiting family, I frequented multiple locations. So yummy, i recommend the pork sandwich, and chocolate eclairs. But everything is great. Friendly staff, and clean and warm location.

Yelp
All food is freshly made that day or right in front of you. Don't go there to buy bread because you'll eat it all!!! Just kidding because each and every one of their breads is delicious and healthy. Their meals also: fresh, tasty and healthy.
google avatar

Elizabeth X.

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday for lunch - gives upscale panera vibes, but way smaller menu and fresher food. Staff is very nice, and the location has lots of seating indoors and outdoors. The tomato bisque was superb. Soups are $8.50 for a large cup and comes with a thick slice of wonderful bread. I also got a slice of chocolate pound cake - it was cold from refrigeration. It was good but nothing mindblowing. It looked moist in the display. Would come back if I'm in the area!
google avatar

Alan J.

Yelp
Before we drove up to Boiceville for the weekend I knew I would be coming here multiple times for breakfast and oh boy you all were a treat. Amazing, fresh bread, ingredients, creative sandwiches, perfect hot cup O joes, and did I mention yummy bread? We came both Saturday and Sunday morning hungry and caffeine parched. There was a community chicken around! We got: - lemon scone - pecan sticky buns - salmon bagel sandwiches - squash and halloumi sandwich - salmon bagel without the salmon! - spicy egg sandwich - chicken club on miche - coffees! - dozen everything bagels to take home 15/10 you all are the best! Will be back!

Yelp
Latte versus Cappuccino. Training issue. The lattes are made like cappuccinos, unfortunately. Lattes are about two-thirds steamed milk, with the other third split between espresso and foam. Instead, from Bread Alone, when I order a latte, it comes with about a third of the cup being just foam, which is essentially a cappuccino. A cappuccino has equal parts of espresso, milk, and foam. A third, a third, and a third. It's what I get but not what I ordered. There should be no need to request little foam when ordering a latte because, by definition, a latte always has little foam. Please ensure the staff reviews the standard recipes for lattes and cappuccinos.

Yelp
I've been coming to Bread Alone for a couple of decades , first in Woodstock and more frequently now on Route 28 in Boiceville. Great food and the spacious Boiceville location, newly expanded, usually has a place to sit an enjoy. Here's my issue. I order online to take away orders, sometimes several orders for my friends and family in tow. Over the past year, we have had to return our order due to an incomplete or missing order. This can be very frustrating particularly when you've left the premises. Staff is always apologetic but the consistency of these order mishaps can be avoided. The lesson is, check your bag before departure. Minor criticism for sure and this shouldn't prevent you from visiting although as everywhere these days, smaller servings for a bit more money.

L P.

Yelp
Best bread bar none and a huge variety always available. They've added paved parking, outdoor dining and more indoor seating as well.

Caroline H.

Yelp
I used to love Bread Alone, but their service has gone badly downhill. Have been to this location several times, and each time the servers screwed up almost everything in our order. They didn't even know what some basic coffee or tea drinks were, and my friend (who used to be a barista) had to explain it to them. It's a shame, we really wanted to support Bread Alone, and especially this carbon neutral location. But it's too irritating to deal with the incompetent staff.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, food is good. I've enjoyed quite a few selections and their coffee. A tad pricey, loaves of bread included. Must be geared towards the tourist trade in both Woodstock and Boiceville. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Mercedes C.

Yelp
This Boiceville location seems to be working for us and probably has about the same variety of breads and pastries, as their sister location on Tinker Street in Woodstock. Except- this location- doesn't get as much foot traffic as Woodstock and their Baguettes don't seem to run out as fast either- so I'm content with that. From hearty country loaves (or Baguettes when I get that weakness for) to very rich pastries, Alone doesn't have a shortage of anything. I really can't tell you what's the best item here. But I can assure you, the last 2 times, our light noshes faired very good, Pastries were buttery and Baguette was pretty decent for these neck of the woods: that well-known crunchy shell and the light inside, which isn't overly doughy but you do see those typical air pockets in Baguettes. Winner!!! Prices? Nothing too outrageous and if they are... can't complain much as there isn't a bakery of this type for miles. Young girls tend the counter and have been pleasant. If we're on Rt 28, this has been our starting point to pick up a couple bites to take with us or something to satisfy my Sweet tooth.

Yelp
Bread Alone in Boiceville you have disappointed me way too many times and it would go against my belief as a business owner to continue to support you ..... The food is okay most times fresh and or edible, there's been times over the past 20 years of support you at your locations or supermarkets bread/bagels/crossiants/coffee have been stale/burnt. Not sure if it's the bad vibe and attitude that your employees are projecting to the consumer come from ownership/management?? It's rude, disrespectful and outright wrong! Rule of thumb if the food is okay and customer service is fantastic I will always come back. If the the customer service is terrible and consistently terrible I keep giving the business a try..... no more! During covid I understand why indoors policy's were enforced, when the building was/is under construction it seems as if your staff was more focused on telling customers to wear a mask (outside) before taking their order. This has over the past 1.5years from what I see causes tension all around. I was ignored last year cause and was told by your employee to wear a mask or I couldn't be served? I said okay, didn't know however you could have said it right away instead of making me wait until I got impatient and stepped up. Unfortunately today the customer service was horrible, they were more focused on telling customers you need to put on a mask (outside) before I can take your order, instead of greeting you....waiting more than 15mins for a simple egg sandwich and received stale pastries and over cooked bread.

Yelp
I love the new space for Boiceville Bread Alone! Right on 28, plenty of parking. All my favorite B.A. recipes and treats and a really cool hangout space with tables and couches. Whether I want to have coffee and conversation with friends or just write in my journal by myself. Bread Alone Boiceville is the perfect getaway.

Yelp
Been fans of Bread Alone Cafe since the 90's. Stopping to grab a sandwich is the most anticipated part of any trip to or from our country residence nearby. The new facility is probably the most ambitious retail project on the 28 corridor in years. Very impressive indeed. Seems like management may need time however to get their act entirely together. Both my wife and my sandwich was not as described in their menu online and was a departure in preparation from what we've had in the past (ie; my everything bagel and lox was served on a plain bagel). The operation there was always run really well and probably will iron out minor kinks like we encountered.
google avatar

Claire N.

Yelp
This place was super good and the staff was absolutely lovely. I'd for sure return for pastries and bread.
google avatar

Georg B.

Yelp
Been buying bread there for decades but now after the absolutely great rebuild everything has been taken to a higher level. The new building and surrounds are gorgeous. They took the leap to a modern Euro style design and thankfully stayed away from the tacky cozy pseudo mountain style. Had breakfast sandwiches, they were delicious my wife is raving about the avocado toast. The coffee is excellent and good coffee is very hard to find in this area. The bread was always good but now it's even better. Congratulations!

Susan R.

Yelp
Bought stale croissants today. Chewy. I am from a small European country. This would not go. Bakery goods left over from previous day gets sold for half price or thrown out. Shame on them!
google avatar

Misha T.

Yelp
What an unusually large bakery for this neck of the woods. The bread, coffee, and sandwiches are all pretty solid. I had the sausage and cheese bread (ok), a great latte, and a solid chicken salad sandwich. I think they explain the name somewhere but I enjoy how random it seems.
google avatar

Deborah L.

Yelp
Awesome lunch stop, just off the Ashokan Rail Trail. We biked from the trail and had a fantastic lunch on the patio under the umbrella on a perfect Saturday. (We did 25 mi total on the rail trail. Bike it.) Pozzas we're so good we thought we were eating in Naples Italy! Spelt salad and chicken club were great, too! .... And then the pastries. Oh so good!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Stopped here on my way out of town. The place is airy and immaculately clean. All of the bread and baked goods looked delicious! The chocolate chip cookies were solid.

J G.

Yelp
Delicious bread and scones. Whenever we are near a bread alone site we make an effort to pick up their baked goods. Friendly staff. Clean modern decor. Bathrooms well maintained. Bread freezes well if you buy too much to eat in the first couple of days. Wish they had more distribution in the NYC area.

Adrienne G.

Yelp
I'm so glad the new place finally opened. Per another review, I was MOST disappointed from what we got at the kiosk when that was the only thing open. This new place is amazing! As always, the food is great, fresh, quickly prepared and served. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's such a pleasant place to sit...with wifi and charging outlets at each table! Last night, we had overnight guests who were planning to leave way before we were going to wake up, and even though it was slightly out of their way in the opposite direction, I sent them there for breakfast. It's really the only decent place to sit and have a pleasant breakfast between Phoenicia and the thruway.
google avatar

Amy A.

Yelp
Delicious. The blueberry muffin was exactly what we needed and I had to use a lot of self restraint not to get many of the other lovely treats on display.
google avatar

Janice L.

Yelp
We have been frequenting the area a lot this year. Typically we go to the same spot for lunch, but my boyfriend heard that this place had good sandwiches, and honestly, I had no idea they even served lunch. We walked in later in the afternoon, there were a few tables that were vacant. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and had a seat. They brought the sandwiches to the table. They also have a water area where you get your own water. The sandwiches were very tasty and fresh. What was the best part of the sandwiches was the bread! When we ordered, we didn't know that you could choose between different breads, but afterwards we found out that you can request a specific bread. Next time I will do that. We loved the sandwich and the bread so much, we decided to buy a loaf of bread before we left and had some with soup for dinner later that evening. I have heard that they have amazing croissants, but they didn't have any by the time we arrived in the late afternoon. The breakfast menu also looked very good. I would like to come back and check out the breakfast!
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
I really love this place and have visited both the Boiceville & Woodstock locations over the last few years. Never disappointed and their baked goods are amazing; especially their croissants. The staff are always friendly too.
google avatar

Karl B.

Yelp
they charge almost 9 dollars for a egg bacon and cheese on a bagel thats highway robbery then the sandwhiche is crap the bacon looks old and dryed out they put one crummy egg on the cheese isnt even on the sandwhiche come on the cook should be fired and im not paying that again you can be certain of that for a crummy sandwhiche

Adrienne G.

Yelp
We eat at Bread Alone in Woodstock all the time, and we used to eat at the original one in Boiceville before they began construction of the new place. This was my first time at the smaller kiosk. I popped over to get a loaf of their wonderful multigrain bread...but they were all out. (Had to go to the supermarket). And I picked up a container of their delicious Tuscan Bean soup for lunch, later. Alas, when I got it home, I saw the container was just a bit more than half full and it came with just one piece of bread which was full of air holes, and rather sparse with the beans....vs. what we usually get in Woodstock which is a full container teeming with beans and two pieces of yummy dense sourdough bread. At 8 bucks for soup and bread, I expect at least the quality and quantity we find at the Woodstock location. At least THAT feels like a real meal. Even though Boiceville is closer to our home, I don't think we'll go back there. Was very disappointed. But again...everything is delicious, so there's that.

Yelp
I sponsored a lunch for a local business meeting that was $110. The staff said nice things about the food so after the sponsored lunch my colleague and I went there to eat ourselves. We ordered and paid at the counter and waited at a table for our sandwiches. As we started eating a male employee came over to tell us that we would need to use the front door as they have locked the side door. A few minutes later he came by and offered us a bag for our food in case we had leftovers. Then he literally starts sweeping the floor under our feet and table while we are eating. Imagine the dust being kicked up in our food! A few minutes later the same male employee along with a female employee wearing glasses comes to our table while we are STILL eating a sandwich to tell us they closed at 3 and we need to leave. Flabbergasted to say the least! I looked at our receipt and we paid at 2:55pm. Nobody said they close at 3, they were happy to take our money, 2x (our sponsored lunch). The experience was disgusting and rude. They could've said we are closing at 3 so we are only taking to go orders instead of the way we were treated. We have sponsored lunch from this place at least 3 times, in excess of $100 each visit. Sadly we will not be going back. We are giving 2 stars because the food tasted good.

Yelp
I was so excited to come eat here after a weekend of snowboarding at Belleayre but ended up so disappointed. It started with the awful service. The girls behind the counter were so disinterested and unfriendly. They were knowledgeable about the items but seemed almost annoyed when I asked what things were. Then our food took forever to come out and when it did, it sat on the counter for a good five minutes before we finally asked about it and they said they weren't sure who's it was. At the price we paid, that's insane! The food itself was ok...flavor was decent but nothing 'wowed' me. The pastries and bread were just ok. The bread I got with my salad tasted burnt - I didn't even eat it and I *love* bread!!!! The pastry tasted stale...it was dry. Maybe we went on a bad day? It was a Sunday.

Steven M.

Yelp
Sadly, Bread Alone has become New York's leading "Greenwash Bakery", touting its 'carbon neutrality' while generating tons of plastic waste - needlessly but quite intentionally. Their plastic bread bags used in supermarkets and bulk orders could easily be replaced by compostable bags, used by many bakeries and businesses. And they could easily forgo using those horrible plastic bread clips on each bag. I've tried communicating with their customer service about this. At the end of the day, arrogance and greed continue to win out over genuine concern for our planet. Don't believe the greenwash. There are alternatives.

Yelp
I was a customer since the very beginning as it is a perfect place on Rt. 28 to stop by and warm up with a hot bowl of soup (which unfortunately is not always served hot) after a winter hike or just grab a cup of coffee and croissant after running on the Ashokan Rail Trail. I was very excited about the expansion and although I like a wide variety of breads and tasty pastries I see some serious issues that are affecting customer service and need improvement. When an owner expands a restaurant - the project should affect not only the amount of tables, but also the size of the kitchen to be able to cater to the enormous amount of customers both indoor and outdoor. What I have witnessed last Sunday was an Armageddon. 30 min wait time for the order!!! Are you people serious? This place caters to hikers who just pop in, grab food and go! I saw people getting seriously upset. I asked about soups and I was told that they were out of it by 12:30 pm? When do you serve soup then? For breakfast? since you have already run out of it 30 min to lunch time? There were more people working in the kitchen, but I saw them being overwhelmed - rightfully so because the kitchen is way too small for the current demand. There were barely any breads left, just a few cookies and, if this is how this place looks on Sunday I can only imagine what it will look like on the 3rd day of a long weekend if by mid Sunday there is almost nothing to choose from. Bread Alone has a great potential but a part of business plan has some flows, which should be fixed. Fortunately for me, I was only an observer since I brought my own sandwich with home made pate and I only had to buy tea which fortunately for me was still available. If I had to leave hungry I would not be happy. Good luck!

Yelp
Amazing bread and munchies for the road!! The gardens are beautiful and a nice relaxing place to have your morning coffee. Last year they had a mobile pizza oven with a local brewery, IT WAS AMAZING!! Hope they continue to use the outside space and keep serving up our favorite coffee and breakfast burritos!

Yelp
Well they are COVID ready with dirty gloves right outside the door on the ground when I told the staff she just said "ok" they were still there when I finished my very wet and yet completely Burnt avocado toast. Just didn't have the embers to go back to complain. Not impressed at all with the food or the environment it staff never again!

Yelp
Bread alone is good and I'll continue to go but it's nothing special. I had a blueberry muffin there last week that wasn't even edible that I had to throw out. Back in the 90's it was completely different and definitely five stars. It became to commercialized. Maybe their kids took over or they sold to some else. The passion just isn't there anymore

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch after a nice hike in the surrounding Catskills region. We dined at an outdoor picnic table, which was spacious and clean. Our food was simply delicious -- I enjoyed a tasty walnut chicken salad sandwich on fresh sourdough bread, while my friends indulged in the hearty halloumi & pesto sandwich. It's rare to find an eatery that serves halloumi, and my companions were overly impressed by the freshness and quality of the cheese. All-in-all, a great experience at one of Boiceville's most prominent establishments!

Yelp
The best thing on their food menu is the roast pork sandwich. It is delicious--would only be better with the option to add jalapeños. We feel so lucky to have Bread Alone in the neighborhood. They are reliable and tasty and always friendly!
