Where To Eat and Drink in the Mountains This Ski Season | Eater Denver

"Bread Bar started life as an actual bread supplier to the small mining town of Silver Plume in the Gold Rush days until Dram Apothecary turned it into a hip cocktail and live music destination in a ghost town. It’s been under its current ownership for three years and continues to carry on the weekends-only tradition, offering drinks like the Chief Colorow, a blend of bourbon, sweet and dry vermouth, and bitters." - Rebecca Treon

The 16 Best Restaurants to Visit on a Colorado Mountain Road Trip | Eater Denver

"Down the road from the coffee shop is this old-timey cocktail bar that started Silver Plume’s ongoing hipsterization and garnered a cult following for its drinks served in a vintage-chic setting (the word “bread” on the back of the former bakery building worked wonders). It’s only open Fridays to Sundays, and visitors should plan ahead to arrive on live music nights — they can be magical — as well as for food and craft goods pop-ups." - Josie Sexton

16 Colorado Venues for a Royally Good Wedding and Reception | Eater Denver

"An hour west of Denver, in the heart of a near-ghost town in the mountains, Bread Bar is that destination reception site that even the jaded friend will reminisce about. Parties here have included dinner by The Regional, desserts by Long i Pie, and drinks created by The Way Back. A backyard deck provides near seclusion, and the town offers a picture-perfect Western backdrop." - Josie Sexton

Google
Super cozy cocktail bar located in a dreamy little old mining town. Lucked out staying within walking distance from Bread, highly recommend staying in Silver Plume for a vacation. If not staying local it’s definitely worth the drive to pop into this whimsical corner shop and enjoy some of the best cocktails I’ve ever imbibed. 5 stars all around!

Google
Damn! Made an unplanned trip up here on a Friday night from Denver expecting this spot to be at least pretty good but the laid-back hospitality and excellent cocktails (both on and off menu) were beyond. I’m sure all the staff are excellent but it was Seth who took care of us and honestly made it all a bit of hospitality magic. We’ll be back.

Google
LOVE Bread Bar! I recently had the pleasure of photographing a pre-elopement gathering here. So many positive things to say about this hidden gem! First off, the ambiance and charm is so warm and inviting. It was the perfect location for my couple & their families to enjoy craft-cocktails before their Colorado elopement ceremony. Bread Bar has so much character! Equally amazing is the cozy patio draped in twinkle lights. Such a cool place! The staff was great. If you're looking for a unique cocktail bar, check out Bread Bar! Hope to be back here again sometime!

Google
We captured some engagement photos at Bread Bar and grabbed a few drinks after and the vibes are so good here! The menu was excellent, every drink was so balanced and delicious. Service was smooth and kind, never overbearing. Absolutely recommend stopping over!

Google
I didn't really eat here, I was abandoned here after closing by my now ex and had to wait for my mom to pick me up and I live an hour away. Anyway it looks cool.

Google
Got the seasonal leaf peeper drink. It was *chef's kiss*. This is a must stop on your way into the mountains, and in fact, it's own destination. Absolutely worth a day trip and even 2 hours of rush hour traffic. Could not rave more about the atmosphere and the service!

Google
What a cool little place! I loved looking around at all the little bits of history and decorative touches. The drink specials are all named after 'local celebrities' so there's a story behind each name. The back patio was nice on a sunny winter day, but I bet it's absolutely gorgeous in the summer! The bartender was friendly, knowledgeable and super chill. We had a great afternoon here, (and would've stayed longer, but we got hungry).

Google
Unique spot that I never expected to find in Silver Plume! Delicious cocktails and charcuterie featuring Colorado treats from palisade, Boulder and more! They adjusted our board to be mostly vegetarian on request which was fantastic! Interior has a nice cozy historic vibe but nice patio seating. Not too busy on a Friday night! The small charcuterie board was huge! Definitely plenty for 3!

Yelp
Hidden bar in Silver Plume tucked at the end of a small dirt road. They have a nice patio but without a view; you're just overlooking a few neighbors backyards and I-70. Personally, We stop here on our way home from the mountains, but we wouldn't drive up from Denver just to stop here.
google avatar

J T.

Yelp
I love stopping at bread. The drinks are great and the vibes are even better. They have charcuterie snacks too.
google avatar

Adriana S.

Yelp
Special find in this tiny little town off I-70. Definitely worth the stop! Fun bartenders and a throw back in time atmosphere.

Yelp
Best place to stop driving up/down from the mountain, esp when the traffic is bad. Great drinks, super friendly people!

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that I am not the target market for this establishment. It is very much a Hipster inspired, repurposing of something old and dilapidated into something new and kitschy. The service was fine, and the bartender was friendly, but outside of that there isn't a reason for me to come back. I grew up in small town Minnesota so the charm and wonder for old, outdated buildings just isn't there for me. If you are from the city and are fascinated with small town life you might find this place much more interesting than I did. When you stack on the fact that a simple can of cider is over the $8.00 price point, this place completely lost me. It isn't comfortable, it is tiny, (as in couldn't sit more than 8-10 people) and it is overpriced. They may have good drinks, but that is not what they are marketing. What they are marketing is your ability to ogle small town life and feeling like you had a "simple life" experience. My advice, skip it and find a real local dive bar instead of this overpriced hipster representation of what they think that is.

Yelp
So far I've only been there during their annual anniversary party, so I can't say how busy it normally is. The drinks were fantastic and the workers were friendly. The building used to be the old bakery in town and the outside and inside are super cool. Be sure to check their hours as it's VERY limited.
google avatar

Dan J.

Yelp
Awesome! Not expected. Great surprise to find excellent cocktails in almost a dead end area of this community. We had cocktails and a charcuterie board before heading out for more exploration of this mountain town.
google avatar

Tasha J.

Yelp
I am so glad to be introduced to this perfect little bar! It is a wonderful mix of hipster cocktails and baller outdoor space. I had an old fashioned and it was made perfectly, not too sweet. My friends tried some of the cocktails and one friend had the bartender create something for her with a few of her favorite flavors. Sitting outside in the fall sun, sipping on a fantastic drink was a perfect stop off i70 to skip some of the traffic back to town. Make sure you check their website to confirm they are open!
google avatar

Christa R.

Yelp
Must stop if you are going to or from the mountains. The people are friendly, there vibe is welcoming and the drinks are GOOD.

Craig T.

Yelp
The moment you walk in, you're transported back to the eclectic/beautiful ambiance of the 1800s. I enjoyed a small charcuterie board complete with some afternoon hot tea. It was the perfect getaway just shy of an hour from Denver (traffic was good). If you're looking to wait it out on the way back to Denver while the traffic dies down, you'll be happy you did! Lilian was there to provide the cherry on top with a warm welcome and local charm. Amazing service all around!
google avatar

Ashlee M.

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim a while back. It's so cosy and eclectic. Every one of our four drinks was spot on. Tasty with a great presentation. Would definitely recommend this place!

Hermosa Q.

Yelp
We ate here last week and later that day I had the worst cast of the shits.

Yelp
So this cute bar is in a little mountain town. Something that can be a bit creepy, very quiet and we only saw 2 people while driving through "town". This bar is so cute. The bartenders are so incredibly friendly and happy to make recommendations! Just real genuine people and we got to know a lot about them. All the cocktails looked incredible too!
google avatar

Yelp
What a special gem this place is. Can't get more authentic in a tiny town off of I-70. Please do yourself a favor and check this place out. My friend and I did a hike today by Loveland and stopped here on the way back to Denver. They are taking reservations because of COVID but we got lucky! The outdoor patio is so flipping cute and plenty of distancing between tables. They are even serving food at the moment! (Mac and cheese = awesome). The cocktails are unique and so good as expected. What an phenomenal atmosphere and exactly what Fall in Colorado should be like every day.
google avatar

Yelp
Surprisingly enough, people STILL come here looking for bread haha During my visit to this cozy little place in Georgetown, folks came rolling in looking for bread only to find hipsters, liquor and foliage instead. Poor souls. For those who arent looking for bread, though, its the best. They have a small cocktail menu that is hand crafted and a full bar. The decor is very old timey with new twists and the space itself is quite small. A weekend bar, only, it seems pretty chill during the days and I can imagine a little cozy at night. I had the only vodka cocktail offered and its unique jam ingredient made it sweet and fresh. We also got lucky that the Buffalo Bills won that day as the bartender offered the whole bar (7 people) shots!

Yelp
Bread Bar is a quaint little spot in Silver Plume and a perfect place to stop over when you are on your way home from the mountains. The inside decorations are very trendy and the plants above the bar give the bar an earthy feel. The back deck is inviting and they have live bands that play there throughout the week. The drinks are delicious and they have a small but good selection of wine. Service is friendly. If you are in the area, it's definitely worth a trip to linger a bit more before the trip back to Denver.

Yelp
Best hidden gem I have found to this day! This cute little bar is nestled into a small mountain town that we went out of our way to visit hiking and boy am I glad we did! I never usually start with service but the two ladies working KILLED IT. So friendly, so knowledgeable and genuinely seemed to love their job. Hats off to you ladies! Secondly the decor is amazing. A little bit of country, a little chic and a little new age cocktail craft all at the same time. I've never seen it pulled together as well as they did it! You must check it out. Third the cocktails were awesome! Wide range of spirits for any beverage lover but they put their own little spin on the cocktails. I'll say it again. Hands down best hidden gem!

Yelp
Where to begin. Imagine a long day at your favorite Ski resort, tiered and driving back to the foothills, so you pull off into sleepy Silver Plume, turn on to the Main Street to find a glowing beacon on the corner. The windows are fogged up from the cozy, bustling interior. You're greeted by the smell of BBQ, if your lucky enough to be there when he's outside (side note, that BBQ will haunt your dreams it's so good), open the door to hear some acoustic music. In the plant filled old creeky building you will imbibe with the best Colorado has to offer. Outstanding service, sexy interior, amazing drinks. I plan my mountain trips around their hours, because I have to stop.

Yelp
This place is super cool. Kind of a hipster hot spot type vibe but so awesome to finally be able to experience it. If you pull off on the silver plume exit and feel like you are lost, you are probably almost there! This town is super quiet and I hardly see anyone out. But then you will see a line of cars and the treasure that is BREAD BAR. This place has KILLER cocktails and is so cute inside. We have stopped several times but the snowy weather has kept us from being able to enjoy the inside! Do note they have some weird hours (Friday-Sunday)and with many of the bartenders driving up from Denver, bad weather can make it hard to open. But alas, on this summer afternoon we got to try it out! The bartenders were rad! This is super small and cozy space, but you are surrounded by friendly peeps looking for a well made cocktail or local beer. We snagged two spots at the main bar and ordered a G.A. JACKSON with gin, lemon, honey and lavender and a BABY DOE TABOR which has vodka, blackberry sage jam, butters and soda. Both were awesome but the G.A. JACKSON was especially superb. I will drive to silver plume just for this cocktail in the future. If you have not been here, I feel like it is a Colorado right of passage to stop. You can grab coffee as well and just enjoy the antiques that line the walls of this historic building. Such a special spot.

Yelp
I came across this cute little place when a storm was coming as we were starting a hike. Instead of heading back into town, we stumbled across the Bread Bar! It was the perfect place to stay warm as the storm was passing. The building is in an old rustic building that was remodeled on the inside. I loved the hard wood floor, comfy couch, and large single pane windows. Because of the old windows, there are several blankets around the bar to use if you get cold. We ended up staying for a few cocktails because the ambiance was welcoming, relaxing, and fun. The inside space was small, and the bar area filled up quickly on a Saturday afternoon. However, this gave it a warm and cozy feeling. We casually conversed with the bartender and other costumers at the tables nearby. I recommend checking this place out. It is in a small mountain town, so check the hours online. I am so happy I found this hidden gem.

Yelp
I freaking love this place! my only complaint is that I can't get a lyft home from Silver Plume which is honestly probably a good thing because I could sit on their back patio, try all their handcrafted cocktails and watch the clouds go by all day. Their menu changes frequently but my current favorite is the baby doe which has vodka and blackberry sage jam. Sounds sweet but drinks refreshing. I recommend picking a summer hike out past silver plume so you have an excuse to stop by bread bar on the way back. And don't forget to instagram the old bread sign on the front (or how else will everyone know you went?!)
google avatar

Casey D.

Yelp
Nice people, fun atmosphere, dog-friendly patio, great drinks. Couldn't be more perfect.

Catherine F.

Yelp
Bread Bar is the CUTEST, quaint, and charming bar spot for a high quality cocktail après session coming back from skiing in the winter or to hang out and enjoy drinks with friends in the summer. Unrivaled cocktail experience-- a must go in Colorado!

David C.

Yelp
G.A. Jackson Colorado Pear Gin, Honey, Lavender, Lemon Cocktail was delicious in me mouth!
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
I love it! So sweet, so simple, so good. Bread Bar is my dream bar. Cocktails in an old cabin - what more do you need? The perfect stop on the way out of Denver, up into the mountains. Bonus points for red wine floats on top of whiskey drinks. Tempted to plan a Silver Plume vacation just to have more than one round and explore this vintage mountain town...
google avatar

Marco E.

Yelp
Great place! Quality crafted cocktails, aesthetic that fits the dirt road town with a classy feel.
google avatar

Brittany D.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Yes, it is out of the way if you're in Denver but it's a must if you can make it out to Silver Plume! The bartender was awesome and was knowledgeable about the town and structure. It maintains the uniqueness of being an old-time bar but keeping with the times in the craft cocktails and drink selection!
google avatar

Suzanne W.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Their cocktails. Their vibe. The live music. It's literally perfection. IF you can actually fit in the door. Everyone seems to love this place, so good chance you'll encounter a large crowd. They handle it in stride, so we didn't mind. A definite must visit after a good nearby hike.
google avatar

Larson C.

Yelp
Can't add to much to what's already been said. Stopped on the way from a river trip. Almost tried all the cocktails via sharing between 4 friends. Each were fantastic. Great place to stop when I 70 is congested and you wanna just let it mellow out. Only open on the weekends but that fits the criteria above.
google avatar

Tonya C.

Yelp
Found Bread Bar by chance and we are SO glad we did! We had no idea what we would find when we walked up to the old building but it was such a pleasant surprise. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was exactly what I look for in a bar, drinks looked amazing (I just had a beer but wish I tried a cocktail) and as a dog lover- the dog friendly patio was a perk. Highly recommend and will be back!!
google avatar

Shanna D.

Yelp
Love this spot! Dog friendly, live music, and amazing cocktails. Please, please reopen soon!
google avatar

Jake H.

Yelp
Is this place ever open? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We attempted to come during listed business hours when we were passing through last winter, to find it closed. We attempted to come again yesterday during business hours and found it, rented out by a wedding party, with no staff to even talk to. Is this place good, guess we'll never know
google avatar

Hannah S.

Yelp
The most amazing and unexpected bar in the tiniest mountain town of Silver Plume! Pictured here are the Bay Doe Tabor with vodka, blackberry sage jam, citrus and soda with the Chief Colorow made of bourbon, dry and sweet vermouth as and bitters.
google avatar

Anastasia D.

Yelp
This place is in the most "off the beaten path" location in the mountains, but it is worth seeking out! Located in a ghost town of main street Silver Plume, Bread Bar is housed in a tiny, old building, maintaining an authentic feel, while housing a great spirits collection and craft cocktails. On a Saturday afternoon during mud season, the inside was packed and people kept flowing in. The drink list is short and succinct, but the drinks are well crafted, featuring local spirits if possible. They have plenty of beer to choose from, as well as cider and wine. This is the perfect place to escape from people and city life without losing quality in the product of craft cocktails. There is a patio, fire pit, and dogs are welcome! If you're going up to ski or to the mountains, make sure you stop in on the way for an authentic experience!
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
Attention mountain goers, Fancy cocktails ahead! Cute place and even better drinks. It's like Denvers best mixology made its way to a tiny mountain town off the I-70! So much attention to detail on these drinks. The bartender even remade mine before I even tried it! Perfection on the combos of citrus and liquor paired with a great drink maker. The place is SO vintage 20s prohibition without being hidden and it's not where you would expect. So many different people that stopped by and the best part? DOGS. They allowed dogs in and welcome big and small groups. Anyone passing through the mountains, this is a must stop by! Note: drivers must only have one! Very strong. Happy Drinking!
google avatar

Trice T.

Yelp
This place is so super cute, quaint and they make the best cocktails. It was my first time visiting there during my stay in Colorado and I'll definitely be back. Loved it and looking forward to trying all the cocktails on the menu. They don't serve food so make sure you get food either before or after but it's a cool little spot to relax and spend time with good friends or loved ones.
google avatar

Salina C.

Yelp
After being a huge Dram fan for years, going to Bread Bar was a gigantic disappointment. We were ignored as soon as we walked in the door, as the bartenders were welcoming what seemed to be regular customers. The bar was a complete disaster area with plastic shot glasses and bottles strewn about. We ordered two Hemingway Daquiris (a special on the chalkboard outside) and were immediately discouraged. After finally gulping down our drinks, we were told that our lackluster, unappetizing cocktails would be $10 a piece. All around--this was a huge letdown. While Dram had heart and sincerity, Bread Bar has none. They are now a cheap, chintzy, "for-instagram-only" version of what was once a lovely and professional gem.
google avatar

Carly S.

Yelp
If you are ever headed back to Denver from the mountains on I70 and you do not stop into Bread Bar for a cocktail.....well, you are a fool. This quaint small bar with wonderfully crafted cocktails and unique atmosphere, is just what you need after the Eisenhower Tunnel. Definitely give it a shot! I am picky about my cocktails but this place hit on all cylinders!
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
Less than an hour from Denver, Bread Bar is my new favorite place to escape for a day drink! Tucked on Main Street of timeless Silver Plume, this bar fits the charming, mountain town bill. We grabbed two cocktails (the Baby Doe Taber and the Chief Colorow) and headed out to the back patio. Both drinks were great--try the Chief Colorow if you're looking for something boozy--and the back porch vibe was dreamy. Drinks, dogs, and views for days? I'll be back soon!
google avatar

Bob H.

Yelp
Bread Bar is a small, out of the way mixology bar in the oddest of places. But they punch well above their weight. Tucked away in a back corner of Silver Plume, you'll find top shelf cocktails to rival some of the best you'll find in LA or NYC (or Denver!). I was just passing through, but given the chance I'd book a room at Silver Plume's one B&B just to have an opportunity to work through the cocktail list. Maybe next time. People have taken notice. I arrived shortly after opening, but within an hour cars started rolling in. The word is out that Bread Bar serves great drinks. If you have a few minutes, it's more than worth your while to stop by.
google avatar

Janet S.

Yelp
Great little bar near Georgetown! Stopped in after a train ride on the silver flume. Awesome cocktails and super service. Quaint little spot that just makes you feel good all over
google avatar

Jacqueline A.

Yelp
What a great little find! I had heard of this place from the Denver Passport and had been wanting to try it out on one of my weekend ski trip excursions so finally with warm weather upon us I made the stop in Silver Plume, an otherwise sleepy village. When walking in, the bar tender was warm and friendly and explained to my companion and me that we could sit where we liked and he would come to us and take our order shortly. The inside has seating for maybe twenty or so people, it's small and intimate so if this place gets busy, be prepared to make new friends. Since it was warm out, we opted to sit outside on the back patio at one of the community tables. The bar tender came and took our order and was helpful in making recommendations. I felt very comfortable and loved the casual setting of the place. As for the drinks themselves, they were delicious. Nothing that is going to re-write history but made with care and good flavor combinations. If you're looking for a secret spot in the mountains off the beaten place, make your way here. The charm of the building and the warmth of the bar tenders will make you feel like one of the cool kids who was let in on a secret.
google avatar

Jarrett B.

Yelp
An awesome hidden bar tucked behind Main Street in silver plume. It has a great vibe to it, easy to get to on the way back to Denver from the mountains, great drinks and friendly service. They have an interesting story. The building burned down and was re-built into a bread bakery about 40 years back using the original floor plan. The owners sold it and the new owners turned it into a bar, keeping all items. This place has a great, old mountain town vibe. Back patio is nice and had lots of dogs. I wish they had food, maybe some bread, but they only have drinks.
google avatar

Nidal J.

Yelp
Authentic drinks and chill atmosphere. This place make you want to trade it all in and that's what two well made drinks will start whispering to you. The staff was welcoming and made you feel like family. What a site to see on a brisk winter day but would love to enjoy the patio this summer.
google avatar

William H.

Yelp
Definitely a unique experience. Artisan cocktails and some bottled beer. Crazy friendly bartenders (in a nice way). Most of the old bakery cabinets and hardware is still around so you feel like you are at a weird party. Seems to bring out the best in everyone there, it's easy to strike up a conversation with strangers. If you want a Martini I suggest you bring your own olives!

Jess B.

Yelp
Awesome spot off the beaten path! You wouldn't expect such an amazing place that you would never know existed unless you're looking for it!
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Great place, good beer, and friendly environment. We have been here many times and love it!
google avatar

Oliver S.

Yelp
Just stopped for the first time, after trying to come here for years when it was Dram. Was pleasantly surprised. Luckily they still kept the decor that resembled the old Colorado mining town Silver Plume used to be. The bartenders were knowledgeable and the drinks were tasty and strong! The back patio is awesome too for little concerts and tastings they put on! Will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
What a great find in the mountains! Our friends love this place, and we stopped in to use our winter passports for drink deals. Super cute spot and very wintery vibe with very delicious drinks too! Definitely will be back on a trip home from skiing for some après ski :)
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
Tiny bar, but has ambiance GALORE. They really paid attention to the details: hanging plants, books, the classiest beer fridge I've ever seen. Very nice people, too. Oh, and dog friendly!
