Best Restaurant Dishes Eater NY Editors Ate This Week, August 4, 2025 | Eater NY

"We got there early for lunch and hit up this bakery from my husband’s youth, where he used to walk over to pick up bread for his dad and stepmother. We shared the Yaddo sandwich ($14.99)—a beautiful stack of turkey-bacon-cheddar-spinach-chipotle ranch, with shaved turkey packed together, ooey-gooey cheese, and a zingy sauce between slices of sourdough—and the Chicken Lisa salad ($14.99), a big plop of chunky chicken salad atop greens, walnuts, and dried cranberries that made a nice, hearty side." - Jaya Saxena

We had such a great experience working with Breadbasket for our gender reveal cupcakes and cake. Amber was incredibly helpful, patient, and knowledgeable throughout the process. Everything turned out beautifully and tasted just as amazing as it looked. They truly nailed the moment and made it feel extra special.

What an adorable place. Stopped in for brunch, there is limited seating so beware. We placed our order and waited about five minutes for a table. Food appears to be made to order. Our party of three all had breakfast sandwiches. I had the Henry Street with added bacon. It was delicious. The bacon was crisp, the wrap was a good size. The eggs were delicious. Everyone in our group was happy with their sandwiches. They had many beautiful pastries which we didn't try but we'll be back! There is a small parking lot in the back of the building.

Good coffee. The thoroughbred sandwich was delicious, and the hathorn was quite good. They had many baked good options that looked delicious, we will definitely come back!

The food was okay. Im honestly upset with the price. The breakfast burritos were around $15 and my wife got an additional side of the loaded hash browns for another $10. Pretty much the cost of a regular meal (even though it's a side) and it was paper thin and not worth the money. The burritos were small and something I could have made here at home. I'm originally from San Diego, CA and out there, even today, you can go to a taco shop and buy a burrito the size of your leg for 9 bucks. Now I understand that this place is not a Mexican restraunt, but there prices should reflect the amount of food your getting. I spent over $50 (granted I did order through Door Dash and it's always a little more $$), but I'm still hungry. Finished the burrito in like 6 bites. I wouldn't have ordered from them had I known I was still going to be hungry after and $50 broker.

Heard they had some of the best cinnamon rolls in the area, so I had to try them. It was very soft and the frosting tasted really good.

Google
Adorable bakery that gives back to the neighborhood. Food was served quickly and piping hot. Nothing like a great soup and sandwich. I've been here several times. Pastry is wonderful. Outdoor seating and the building is so welcoming - looks like a fairytale house. Love it there.

Came in to order a hot tea. Was ignored by the barista for some time. I ordered the tea and it came iced (on a cold late November morning). It would have been good to clarify that it would be cold. The server did not let me know when the tea was ready, she just left it on the counter and walked away. The place could benefit by training staff in basic customer service and communication.

That's not a cinnamon roll, that's a cinnamon pizza. First time in this bakery, having found it online while looking for new places to check out. Normally wouldn't be able to check them out as they close at 3PM, but lots of end-of-the-year PTO leads to exploring my options. Ended up going with 9 different choices, a PB cookie, Molasses cookie, Sprinkle cookie, Snickerdoodle cookie, Sugar cookie, Lemon Bar, Vanilla Cupcake, Gingerbread Man cookie, and a Cinnamon Bun. All in all, only a little under $38, not too shabby. Straight away, the PB Cookie, was mind blowing. It was very richly peanut butter, but not aggressively mud mouth making. And the addition of PB Chips inside was something I wish more places did. The molasses was exactly as it should be, not super sweet and it had that distinct dark flavor. The sprinkle I expected to be a lot doughier, but it surprised me with how crispy it was and how well the sprinkles held up to the baking. The snickerdoodle I wished it had more cinnamon flavor, as it stands now it was only a little spicy and I much prefer snickerdoodles to bite back. The sugar cookie, aside from the fun design, also had a lovely shortbread flavor. The cupcake was very plain, it had a sweet smack to it but I think it could use a twist, maybe some vanilla bean to add more vanilla aroma. The gingerbread man was not as crunchy as I was expecting, nor did it have a super punchy ginger flavor, a bit like the snickerdoodle's cinnamon. And finally that cinnamon bun, just , wow! The frosting was rich and had a proper cream cheese flavor and consistency to it. The bread was well constructed, holding together very well, but not super dense or heavy. They did go light on the cinnamon tar, but that's ok, because they had enough cinnamon proper that it danced well with the massive frosting topping included. Loved this, far better than anything Cinnabon puts out anymore. A shame they close as early as they do, as I could totally see myself rocking this place as a standard weekly visit.

Yelp
Wow. I was not expecting to be blown away by this breakfast sandwich, but here we are. I ordered the Eddie, which is an egg and cheese sandwich, and I added bacon. They had gluten free bread, which isn't always easy to find in a bakery, so I got that. Now normally, GF bread is nothing to write home about and often resembles a spongy, white piece of foam, so I was delighted to open up the foil to see something that actually looked like real bread. This bread had crust too. It was soft and flavorful with an excellent texture. I think it's made with buckwheat, and had a bit of a sweet hint to it. The bacon was plentiful, thick, and a nice mix of crispy and meaty. I didn't want this sandwich to end. My husband got the same sandwich but on a Kaiser roll and loved it as well. The bakery itself was cozy and had a lot of options for freshly baked bread, croissants, and pastries. They had a full coffee bar with lots of options as well. I like that they have a station set up where you can add any type of milk or sweetener you want, as well as condiments, plasticware, to-go bags and more. And for dessert, I got a GF brownie to go...it was phenomenal. Big, moist, delicious, and had a layer of chocolate fudge and chunks on top. My only regret is that I didn't find this place at the start of my trip, because I would have been there every morning. I can't wait to come back on my next visit to Saratoga!

Yelp
Delicious cappuccino, eclectic burrito, an assortment of beautiful pastries and breads. Friendly staff, clean dining area, with parking in the back. Absolutely will be back!

Yelp
All day breakfast, great sandwiches and salads, perfect place to sit and see the park, good tourist spot.

Yelp
A cozy, clean, beautiful and delicious cafe. Parking lot in the back and outdoor seating. Looking forward to visiting again.

Yelp
The food is made with love. . Fantastic French Toast . Jim Dandy on homemade bread was heavenly . Could not finish the Henry street burrito - yum

Yelp
We stepped in on *sadly* our last vacation morning in Saratoga Springs. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. There was ample seating outdoors in the patio but alas the weather turned for the colder that morning and so we sat inside. There are a handful of tables inside and we were lucky to grab the last. Hubby got the M breakfast sandwich with a small latte and I had the avo toast with and egg and a large coffee. The food came out quickly and everything was delish and cooked well. I lamented the lack of "to stay" cups and plates as our dishes and things were tossed within minutes. We took a loaf of sourdough home, this is my reminder to go get it out of the car. A solid start to the day, and pleasantly located by Congress Park.

Yelp
The baked goods are my go to here. It's a corn muffin and a cup of coffee. Service is usually quick. Cute little restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.

Linda O.

Yelp
This is the BEST place to get your breakfast pastries and fresh bread! I might be prejudiced because I worked there many moons ago but since my husband retired we've traveled around and I've yet to find any place to match
google avatar

Deb G.

Yelp
They created a beautiful vintage heart shaped cake for my daughter's 30th birthday! Looked amazing and tasted delicious! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Such a cute (and busy) spot across the street from Congress Park. Lots of fresh goodies, bread, cookies and bakery items. They do breakfast sandwiches and lunch. We wanted to try a sandwich but it was a 30 min wait so we will put back on our list for our next visit. They just opened their second location in Wilton.

Yelp
This place was incredible. All my times in Saratoga Springs and staying here as layover town, I've never come here. It's abit off the main strip, but it was SO worth it. I'm thinking about it now. Food great, custom orders done right, service great, all so kind, and chill flow off the beaten path.

Alison A.

Yelp
Loved their baked goods and the guy who helped was awesome. The location was easy to find. The place was super cute. Great energy.

Patti W.

Yelp
A great restaurant!! Love the baked items--cookies, cupcakes, muffins etc. Breakfast sandwiches are delicious. I like the Rocket but today is avocado toast and I added eggs. So good and I really like the mission of helping people. The people are so nice!!

Yelp
(We visited Saratoga during Labor Weekend so this review is a couple weeks late.) Neighborhood gem! Super nice folks working here, and the bakery case was mouthwatering. I wanted 1 of everything. I refrained and just got 1 scone and 1 pastry. They have several options for coffee, and they serve it HOT so be ready. Hot coffee and a pastry/scone (while not really a balance nor healthy diet) sure hits the spot while sitting out at The Spa to watch morning workouts. When we walked inside, there were only a couple people sitting down. When new left 10 minutes later, the parking lot was full and there was a line at the bakery case...we timed it just right. This place seems to get a lot of business in the morning. So, if you are hankering for a specific treat... I'd suggest going early.

Yelp
OMG BEST CAKE EVER! * * my best friends Dad. I ordered a cake for my GF birthday. Unfortunately I never made it to the bakery to pick it up on time. I took a detour and got lost. My bad. So I walked down as soon as we woke up, my google maps said 15 min walk. I packed a freezer bag so the cake didn't melt in the Toga heat. It took closer to 20 minutes due to the condition of the sidewalks around town. The worst. Tripping every other step. The bakery was cute and very busy! A good sign. They still had my cake! Yay! Tossed it in the freezer bag ordered some snacks for a peace offering, cinnamon buns and blueberry scones. All were killer. Walked home. The walk was tough. The cake felt so heavy. I've never carried a cake. Let's love this far and at such a weight....maybe 10 pounds. No kidding. I had to keep switching arms. Anyway. Long story short. The cake lands on the plate with a thud! It's amazing. Ima so glad I found this place. It made everyone so happy. Let them eat cake! And we did!! Sorry no pic. We ate it!

Yelp
We absolutely love coming here for a breakfast sandwich or some thing sweet everyone is always friendly and courteous. The coffee is always hot and the sandwiches are always good not to mention all the sweets.

Beth N.

Yelp
Went there for breakfast with my husband . Husband got a ham and egg sandwich and I got hash browns and we got two small coffees , $9 for 2 small coffees (really ) I asked for milk instead of bringing it to me she put it in the fridge . They text u when ur foods ready and u have to get up and get it yourself ????? My hash browns were disgusting ... coffee sucked and the use lunch meat for the ham on your sandwich ... so you service yourself , so a breakfast sandwich , hash browns and 2 coffees $25 ??? All on paper plates and paper cups SMH Next time we will go to Sweet Mimi's You get a real breakfast real dishes and pleasant atmosphere . Not here we didn't . Won't go again

Yelp
This is a real nice spot to check out just off Broadway a couple blocks, right across the street from Congress Park. They do all kinds of made to order sandwiches, have lots of different baked goods from scones, muffins, cookies, breads, cupcakes, and even full size cakes (take a look see at my pics). They also serve salads and several tapas, surprisingly. This last trip I purchased a large cupcake; the P.B. and C...chocolate cake, peanut butter mousse, and buttercream ganache...wow, talk about decadent. I would buy this cupcake again in a second and warn you to eat just half of it as it is quite large and has to be a caloric atom bomb! My oh my, did I enjoy this cupcake. The do coffee refills for only 54 cents and even have a flyer up saying you can enroll in a 2-3 hour baking class at this location that's fifty dollars per person. They do a shortened winter hour schedule so you might want to check ahead if it's winter just to assure they're indeed open for business. Lots of parking a half a block a way in an actual parking lot and they have an outdoor seating area as well for weather appropriate dining and people watching.

Yelp
Loved the cottage look of this place. Actually the reason I wanted to check it out. Went for breakfast. French toast. Breakfast Burrito. Scrambled eggs with cheese. Everything was amazing. There was a bit of a wait, but there were lots of people and it looked like one woman cooking. Oh and last but definitely not least....the raspberry bear claw!! The right amount of sweet and raspberry tart. It was soft. It was great. Definitely treat yourself to the bakery goods while there!!

Dana J.

Yelp
My husband and I had lattes and breakfast sandwiches. Each of us had the Eddie M--eggs, cheese and choice of meat. We were not disappointed. My husband had the gluten free bread and thought it was the best he has ever had. Thick slices that did not crumble. Staff was friendly and welcoming. We would definitely return.

Yelp
Something is not quite operationally here. Saturday morning while lazily searching for breakfast options we came across The Bread Basket. We opted to place an order online for curbside pick up, estimated wait time was 35 minutes. The online ordering appeared up to date with their current available offerings so we ordered some breakfast sandwiches, some pastries and some coffees. Before leaving I got a text my order was ready. We pulled into the parking lot and waited about 10 minutes before I went inside to check on the situation. When I asked about our order I was told it would be another 10-15 minutes as they were behind and when asked they said we received a text because 'the system was glitchy'. They finally bring our items out to the car in a big paper bag, now I wasn't handed the bag so I asked if that was everything, were our coffees in the bag? The guy made it seem like we had to get our coffees inside which I emphasized that seemed like a broken curbside process. He went back in to make our coffees. So we head out finally and get back to the house only to see we only got the sandwiches and no pastry items were in the bag. I called to tell them to which they continued to stress how busy they were. I also asked why my breakfast sandwich was on a burger bun to which I was told they were subbing that in for the English muffins and they were again, too busy to call and inform us. While they offered we could come back to get the pastries, they said now most of those items were sold out so I requested a refund on the pastries. That's a lengthy story about a very broken system, but the food was not great. Maybe the English muffin would have been better but this was a very sad breakfast sandwich. My friends said the tomato on the avocado toast was good but the avocado to bread ratio looked scarce.

Chris S.

Yelp
We used to go to the bread basket for years, but recently went back after a year. What a disappointment! My husband drove 50mins on a Sunday morning to pick up bear claws. I was craving one. They are NOTHING like they used to be. They are all bready now with little flavor. They used to be sticky and gooey, such a decadent treat. Now, not worth the calories. So disappointing. Will not be going back for those. Please bring back the old recipe!!!!! Please!!!
google avatar

JoAnn F.

Yelp
Everything was sooo AMAZING!! Not a fancy place but clean Raspberry bear claw avocado toast cinnamon roll French toast All items made fresh so the wait is longer than usual but so worth the wait. And what makes it a plus all profits go to charity
google avatar

Marie D.

Yelp
My Sweetheart brought me a birthday cake from this fine bakery. He didn't know that I prefer yellow cake, or maybe he did and just wanted chocolate, but it was THE BEST commercial chocolate cake I have ever had. Moist, not too sweet, no gory gross fruit gel in the center. White vanilla frosting. Mmmm. Wishing there were more in my freezer...

Diana C.

Yelp
We love everything about the Bread Basket! We often meet or bring friends there! The breakfast menu is our favorite but everything else is outstanding! All profits go to local charities!
google avatar

Katie O.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh, baked goods and light meals! Friendly helpful staff too. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee spots in Saratoga. Right across from the park and the famous spit and spat. Super friendly people and great service. I had avocado toast with eggs. A huge portion. Delicious. Egg sandwiches are great. Get off Broadway and the crowds and go to the Bread Basket.
google avatar

Jody W.

Yelp
I haven't tried the baked goods here yet but I've heard that they are delicious. I did have a breakfast sandwich and it was pretty good. Nothing crazy "over-the-top amazing-ness" but a decent breakfast sandwich. It was egg and cheese served on a homemade English muffin. I added ketchup and hot sauce to kick up the flavor a notch. Iced coffee was decent. I didn't even put any milk in it and I was able to just drink it straight up. The girl behind the counter was very, very, very, very, VERY friendly. I'm accentuating that because I've seen other reviews complaining about unfriendly staff. This girl was trying very hard...almost too hard...but I'm never going to complain about somebody who is trying to give good service with a smile. Will need to try the bakery sometime.

Erin H.

Yelp
Thank you to the team at The Bread Basket Bakery for making our big day, delicious!!! We ordered a cake for our wedding with only a week's notice to the bakery, to add to our dessert table, in October 2021! We started out that day "not really cake people" and quickly changed our tune after cutting into this AMAZING red velvet dream wrapped in frosting! We will definitely be back soon! The Newlyweds :)

Marsha M.

Yelp
We used to LOVE coming here whenever we were in the area, but I think there is new ownership. My sandwich was $15, and definitely not worth the price. There was a small clump of Turkey smack in the middle of my sandwich, and one little slice of apple. Our latte had no flavor, and everything was served on a paper plate and plastic cup. Also, no prices on pastries or drinks, so we were shocked when we were told how much we owed. The bright spot was the Kouign Amann... very tasty. However, like I said, I used to love it here, but we won't come back.

Scarlett R.

Yelp
Food and service are outstanding. Always made to order breakfasts and the best pastries .

Saratoga R.

Yelp
I have been a patron of the bread basket for at least 15 years. I am so disappointed with the huge decline in the quality of the baked goods. Picked up two bakery items today a sticky bun and a bear claw. BOTH were very stale. At these prices you expect fresh baked goods. We won't be back in the near future. Please reevaluate your bakery. So so disappointed.
google avatar

Benny W.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast/lunch fare away from the maddening crowd on Broadway. Parking lot in back. Made to order breakfasts, sandwiches & gourmet soups. Very reasonable by Saratoga standards. Highly recommend for breakfast or lunch with indoor or front deck seating. Enjoy the outdoor garden view across from Congress Park. No table service but a very accommodating staff for special requests. Easy access to/from the Northway.
google avatar

C S.

Yelp
Hours are all over the place. Staff is inconsistent. Food is mostly good with the occasional too salty sandwich. Need more varieties in stock. I really love their bread and many of their treats but it's really difficult to understand what is happening with this place. I realize with Covid things are crazy but you have to at least get some consistency to run a business. Some of these things were prior so can't blame it all on that. I hope they can fix these issues because it's a great place otherwise.

Charlie M.

Yelp
This time of year I'm sure I go into various establishment bleeding from a self-inflicted garden wound. The Bread Basket is the only place I've ever been where I was given first aid with my coffee. Great atmosphere.
google avatar

Kelly O.

Yelp
My coworkers threw me a small baby shower and Bread Basket supplied the cake (chocolate with vanilla frosting). Not only was the cake adorable, it tasted delicious, too. I'm almost glad this is farther from my house than I'd travel for a bakery. It could be dangerous otherwise. My husband had some, too, and really liked it even though he generally does not like chocolate cake.
google avatar

Margot A.

Yelp
I've been getting the "chicken lily" salad occasionally the past 2 years. Today was 1st time since ownership change. It isn't as great as it used to be - meh. Bakery items look lovely. The quiches are good. Was going to buy a loaf of bread but at $7.75, I changed my mind. Even tho proceeds go to charity, that is steep IMHO.

Fuq Y.

Yelp
Terrible, waited 20+ minutes for a $10 breakfast sandwich that had a half of a piece of bacon on the entire thing. Pathetic. Great it's for charity but not to the point where you need to rip off your customers. Go anywhere else, sweet Mimi's, country corner, comptons, McDonald's, then give $5 to the closest homeless person.

Mandar M.

Yelp
We tried this bakery recently. All the flavors - carrot, vanilla, chocolate as well as the frosting were good and appropriately sweet.
google avatar

Alexandra K.

Yelp
Super cute little cafe. Whether you order a breakfast sandwich or pastry you won't be disappointed. We ordered a sausage egg and cheese wrap and a sticky bun and cold brew coffee. Everything was awesome. I also really liked that there was Indoor and outdoor seating available.
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
Absolutely the best baguettes we've found in the CRUST (Capital Region of UpSTate new york), no pun intended. Classic French-style hard crust and delightful, tasty bread on the inside. The pies were OK (we've tried two), with very good crusts but mezzo-mezzo fruit fillings. We may be asking too much at this time of year, but a fruit pie's got to have that fresh picked zest. They also have orange rolls, and a map of Sverige/Sweden on the wall, which made us ponder if this was a Swedish bakery, but we didn't see any other Scandinavian favorites in the display case. The line in and out is a bit awkward, and makes browsing while there's people behind you a bit odd, just a heads up.

Yelp
My family comes to Saratoga every summer, and we've been to this sandwich shop over 10 times now. I feel this week's experience there for lunch is typical of all the times we've been here: Fresh breads and fresh sandwich & salad ingredients? Check. Decent selection of lunch fare? Check. Awesome (but pricey) cupcakes? Double check. Crumbs on table and dirty chairs? Check. Surly girl making the sandwiches? Check. 3 gals and one guy chatting behind the counter, not interested in taking our orders? Triple check. (Hubby couldn't even get the gals' attention after lunch to get an eclair, and he was really hankering for one, practically throwing his money on the counter. This was at 2pm and few customers were there. The gals were all busy chatting and giggling). Honestly, I'm not sure why we keep giving this place "one more chance". Maybe it's because of its prime location across from Congress Park.
google avatar

Otis M.

Yelp
The breads and baked goods are great. Solid rendition of your bear claws and sticky buns, plus sandwich loaves baked on the premises. There's a really interesting rye with an odd name (that I can't remember) which includes a subtle mix-in of seeds. Four stars for the bread, and it might go higher if they got a slicer. But only two stars for the lunch. Meats on a sandwich were obviously pre-sliced and the sandwich was sloppily prepared. A salad ordered to go was missing its dressing. And the place is a little casual and thrown together to have a sit down lunch if that is what you desire. Advice: stick to the baked goods and have yourself a four-star experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Beat pastries in Saratoga - so light and buttery. I just had my first scone from TBB and it was delicious. I went with the savory jalapeño scone - not to crumbly, not too dry. It was just perfect. The soup and sandwiches are okay, nothing special.
google avatar

Yelp
Tucked away on the perimeter of congress park, the main reason to visit is the charming location and outdoor appeal. The food and what I sampled of the pastries was pretty standard breakfast fare nothing mind blowing. The breakfast burrito was good- done with a fried egg, salsa, a side of sour cream and enough potatoes to feed a small country! I think I had potatoes coming out of my ears by the end of the meal! Don't get me wrong they were good, but someone went a bit overboard. My husband got a ham egg and cheese on their homemade English muffin and it looked incredibly delicious! I might try the ham-less version if we return. Their coffee selection is pretty standard and they offer a few different options including flavored coffees. The pastry options were a bit lacking for a Sunday AM. Might be worth a repeat visit for coffee and a snack to enjoy the view of the park but I wouldn't go out of my way.
google avatar

Dre M.

Yelp
Excellent service and food. Had a breakfast sandwich and home fries. The bread is delicious. Glad we stopped here!

Susie M.

Yelp
The only good thing about this place is the food. Even the customers are terrible. Entitled, impatient, impolite. I have had some good experiences here due to the friendly staff, but it always seems like they are friendly in spite of what I imagine to be less than professional management. As if something else unpleasant or uncomfortable was going on and they were doing their best to rise above. Give those counter girls a raise!

Yelp
A short walk up from Congress Park in Saratoga Springs, NY-right down from the college campus-this wonderful bakery may be found! We were in Saratoga Springs waiting to meet up with a relative while touring-I just wasn't up to finding food on the main strip. SO HAPPY to find this bakery! Wonderful, fresh salads and sandwhiches made on their own baked bread! Delicious sweets! As much as I wanted the ginormous cupcake, I passed-there are only so many sweets a short, pudgy person like myself should consume at one time! PS-they sell doggie treats and our picky dog gobbled his treat!

Yelp
Finally got around to checking this place out today. The aesthetics are adorable. Inside and out it almost feels like a hobbit home. They have a variety of quiches. I had the spinach, which was buttery, crispy, and superb. There was also broccoli and ham/cheese. A wide selection of cupcakes are displayed under glass as they should be because they are treasures. I had the Boston Cream. The rich chocolate topping rivaled Mrs London's best. The cake part could use a hair more cream but was still delightful. They also have a bunch of breads and a good artisanal soda selection. The birch beer is top notch! Friendly staff and good food! Just wish it was open a little later.
