The Best Korean Barbecue Restaurants Around D.C.

"Situated in blue LED-lit digs in Fair Oaks Mall, national chain Breakers aims to fuse “fine-dining and traditional Korean barbecue” with grill-your-own options. The all-you-can-eat lunch and dinner menu recently returned at a lower price point ($29.99). The sleek setup with a double-sided bar is open until 11 p.m. on weekends. Another mall outpost sits in Manassas, too." - Tierney Plumb, Emily Venezky

I dined at this Korean BBQ restaurant several times and found it a decent place for a meal. I tried both the a la carte menus and the all-you-can-eat BBQ options, which were good deals in terms of portion size and taste, although they could have been better. The restaurant's main hall is lit with blue lights, which everyone may not like, but the place is clean and tidy. Overall, this place can be a decent option if you're looking for Korean BBQ and meals in the area.

We came here at someone's suggestion. The two of us did the AYCE option with pork belly and bulgogi. I found the meat to be good quality. The banchan were flavorful and refreshing palate cleansers. Our server grilled our meat for us as well as cut it. It was nice for us to not have to worry about that, and just eat. I felt like the AYCE was fairly priced. Definitely much cheaper than some places and neither one of us left hungry. I would have liked a few more dipping options but that's such a minor problem. The food was good without all the fluff.

We had a fantastic experience with our party of twelve. The food is authentic, delicious, and served by a team that truly care about their patrons. Some of our party were unfamiliar with the cuisine and the owner personally explained how various flavor combinations worked together. Everyone left full and happy!

I had an absolutely appalling experience at this restaurant yesterday (01/24/2025). Our group of 11 came here for a New Year’s dinner, expecting a proper Korean BBQ buffet. They advertise two buffet options: $35 and $50. We opted for the $50 option because it included free karaoke. However, what unfolded was nothing short of outrageous. First, instead of the standard buffet experience where you can select what you want, the owner brought out only two pre-cooked dishes and a soup for everyone to share. When we wanted to order more meat—like brisket and pork belly—they informed us it would be an extra charge. How does a $50 buffet even make sense if you have to pay extra for the main items it’s supposed to include? It didn’t end there. The owner demanded cash payment, and although the restaurant was supposed to close at 11 PM, they told us to leave at 9 PM, saying they were closing soon. I think they decided to close early because there were no customers. Now I understand why the restaurant was nearly empty on a Friday night. The food quality was, by far, the worst part. The meat was atrocious—cheap cuts that were borderline inedible. The marinated meat tasted stale, and the overall flavor was simply horrible. To top it off, the food seemed so old that I ended up with severe stomach pain and spent the night regretting every bite. This place isn’t just a waste of money; it’s a health hazard. I’m Korean and have eaten more Korean BBQ than anyone, so I know it very well. I’ve been to almost every Korean BBQ spot around Fairfax, and most of them have been excellent—except this one. Breaker is by far the worst restaurant I’ve visited in years. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Save your time and money and go somewhere else. This place is an embarrassment to Korean BBQ. In the end, our group of 11 ordered the $50 buffet per person, but due to their trickery, we ended up paying $1,100 for food alone, excluding drinks and alcohol.

We gave another breakers a chance this time being in Fair Oaks mall. They had a special for $29 all you can eat so our family of 4 gave it a go. We started with brisket then worked towards chicken, ribeye, spicy pork, and back to brisket. Order shrimp fried rice for each of us and endless small sides such as salad, spicy potates(really good), glass noodles(really good), broccoli, kimchi, radish, and miso soup. We were honored by the manager bringing us a watermelon margarita and mango margarita to try for free and both were really good. We preferred to put the meat into the pit ourselves due to raw meat splashing when server placed it in the pit which was a draw back which was an accident. Non the less we had a pleasant experience all walking away too full with a fair price but fun experience for us. Clean atmosphere and great chance to have with family or friends experiances without a phone as a distraction.

We didn’t do the AYCE option. The quality and taste of the black angus marinated beef short rib (galbi) was really good. We also enjoyed their seasoned shrimp. A nice variety of side dishes too. But I think what made me appreciate the food more was the beef short rib soup (갈비탕) and the kimchi stew (김치찌개). It surprised me because of how authentic they were and homemade they tasted, especially the 갈비탕. It threw me off because the interior is more modern than traditional K-BBQ places. We had good service and it was a much better experience than what we had at their previous location. I do think there is still room for improvement. But I hope they can continue improving to minimize the gap between the service and nice authentic food they have so that everyone can enjoy it all. Might be our new go-to spot for when we want to eat marinated galbi (양념갈비).

Awesome experience! The menu features all you can eat options for $24.95 or $29.95 a person and there are so many options! Definitely worth getting more expensive option to try all of the different meats and sides. The restaurant is new and has a modern vibe. The server helps to cook and serve the food at the table so you don’t have to worry about timing each item. The miso soup and sides are all great. The best meat by far was the prime beef! They do not rush the table either and allow you to enjoy each item. Definitely will recommend to all of our friends and family to come and we will be back as well!!

Wanna have a great experience? Want to get more than you pay for? Want truly home made items from a real Korean chef? Breakers is your place. Korean BBQ is a culinary delight known for its interactive and flavorful dining experience. Grilling thinly sliced meats, such as bulgogi or samgyeopsal, at the table allows diners to customize their meals. The marinades, often a mix of soy, sesame oil, garlic, and more, infuse the meat with incredible taste. Accompanied by various banchan (side dishes) like kimchi and pickled vegetables, it's a feast that engages the senses. The communal aspect and delicious combinations make Korean BBQ a unique and memorable dining adventure.
