Had heard some about this place, and decided to go there today. While I am not one for judging a book by it's cover, the cover of this book needs to stay closed.
The place has the feel of a dive bar, and looks like it had been thrown together from the stuff left behind by other failed restaurants. The staff were very pleasant, almost comically so. I had the feeling they were over-doing their hospitality. But the staff were all friendly and attended to people very well.
I ordered their onion rings to start, and they came out very quickly. But the rings were ok, made better by dipping them. Lots of mis-matched dishes here.
I ordered their "Ribeye Steak Special", which was anything but special. First of all the entre came out so fast, I know that everything had to be pre-cooked. I was right. I had barely touched by onion rings when they brought out my entre. I ordered a baked potato and green beans. I asked the server if the green beans were canned, she said "Yes, but they dress them up for you." Well, they didn't, they were just plain canned green beans heated up and scooped into a little cafeteria dish on the plate. The baked potato tasted and smelled like it had been sitting for a while. I had asked for butter and sour cream, I got margarine, and "sour cream topping" in little industrial cups. They don't have real butter.
The steak was very greasy, and not cooked to medium rare as ordered because it was so thin, you could make it medium with a hair dryer. There were large globs of un-rendered fat all over the steak, and no seasoning. I put some onion rings on the steak to get some flavor. Trying to cut through this steak was quite the effort, as it seems they make their steak with strips of rubber bands woven through the steak.
When they asked about desert I thought maybe that would redeem my meal. Nope. The chocolate cake was tasty, but gritty, and seemed a bit undercooked.
While the staff are very sweet and attentive, this is really just a greasy spoon that is easily upstaged by much better places just up the road.
