The 11 Best Bakeries In Nashville - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Nobody does pastries in Nashville quite like Brightside Bakeshop. This bakery focuses on gorgeous variations of all the baked goods we love best: cheesecake streusel danishes, three-cheese brioches, oatmeal cream pie croissants, lemon lavender kouign amann, glistening “sunshine” rolls with orange zest—the list goes on. The menu rotates monthly, so you have time to revisit favorites before they disappear to make way for buttery new creations. Brightside has locations in East and the Nations, but we’re partial to the latter with its big sunny wall and cute cafe tables." - ann walczak, bailey freeman

Always recommend preordering to ensure you get your favorites! I got the chocolate almond croissant (weekends only) and the coconut cream puff pastry. It had been a long time since I had Brightside, and I want to preface this by saying that they used to be my favorite croissant by a landslide. I was sadly disappointed this time around. The croissant was smaller than they used to be (maybe it was just mine?) and it wasn't as flaky as I remember them. It seemed to lack depth and was flat. I was so sad. The coconut cream on the puff pastry was delicious. 10/10 for sure. The puff pastry left a lot to be desired, but I could have eaten an entire bowl of the cream! Maybe I just had it hyped up in my mind or maybe I've just had too many other really spectacular pastries since I've had Brightside, but unfortunately I was pretty bummed out this time around. I'll give it a go again soon, though, because maybe it was just an off day!

Great Bakery! Went last weekend and really enjoyed it. I loved that you could pre-order. When I arrived, a box was waiting for me with my order all ready to go. Of course my order wasn't clearly enough after seeing their baked goods on display so I bought more. Everything we had was excellent. I bought pretty much one of everything. Butter croissant was flaky and perfect. The Pain au chocolat (they call it a chocolate croissant) was really great. Cinnaroll was really good but must be eaten that day. Filling tended to drop to the bottom because it is baked vertical instead of horizontal like most cinnamon rolls. Still very good and I'd buy again. Unfortunately, they did not have the Kouign Amann on the day I went and It tends to be my favorite. Gives me an excuse to go back to Nashville I guess. Great Bakery and I'd highly recommend it.

Google
Brightside knows their strength and focuses on what they are good at! Pastries are always delicious and decadent. Part of me wishes that they had a really good espresso machine with great coffee but I also appreciate the fact that they just focus on baking delicious treats! The staff is always super friendly and helpful.

Google
Had to try out my friend’s favorite bakery while visiting. It did NOT disappoint. The everything croissant tart specifically was incredible and the churro croissant was so addicting. Everything was so fresh and full of flavor. Can’t wait to visit again!

Google
I was BLOWN away at the creativity and deliciousness of the special Easter basket of assortment pastries and sweets. The star that drove all of us mad was the coconut and chocolate cream tart with layers and layers of flakey amazingness similar to baklava. The piled high cream on top was not too sweet and added just the right amount of cream per bite! We were ohhing and ahhing at each and every one. Well done!

Google
I am satisfied with my food and the service I received at this location. I got the Ham & Cheddar Brioche and Cinnaroll. I also ordered the Royal Treatment hot tea. When I walked in, I was greeted by a staff member and was helped right away. The H&C Brioche was soo good. I didn't even need to heat it up; you know something is good when you can enjoy it cold. The Cinnaroll creme on top was so soft and tasty; heck, the whole thing was great. The tea was unsweetened (just a heads up), but that's fine because I added mine when I got home. The prices are what you'd expect for gourmet pastries 👍🏾 I'll be coming back.

One of the highlights of my week is getting the email with the weekly menu! Always exciting to see what new creations Brightside has come up with, but you can never go wrong with just the classics either. Just overall such incredible pastries!

Google
For my breakfast in Nashville, happened to stumble upon this bakery in a near by neighbourhood of my hotel. Had a chocolate croissant and a spinach and artichoke claw and they both were amazingly delicious 😋 😍 they would have been great if warmed up a little bit for the chocolate to melt right in your mouth in your first bite. Will visit this bakery when in Town.

Yelp
Tiramisu Maritozzi: 10/10 berry oat streusel danish: 10/10 chocolate croissant: 8.5/10 new pastry ratings! the Tiramisu Maritozzi and chocolate chip cookie are the best things i've ever had here!! the Tiramisu Maritozzi is my all time favorite, one of the best desserts i've ever eaten. i'm giving a lot of their stuff 10/10 but this one is actually like 12/10. i think it's only here for july so sad, if you are the owner and reading this please make this pastry a staple. i preordered this time and it was in a box on the shelf when we got there, super convenient and great i recommend ordering because they can sell out very quickly!

Yelp
With accolades pouring in, a plethora of glowing recommendations from friends, and near-perfect ratings on every user-driven platform, Brightside has been on my local bucket list for several years now. I had to see what all the hype was about, and I finally made it. And it lived up to the billing! Yup, there's a reason Brightside is Nashville's top-rated bakery! Owner Andrea Borchers was trained at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, using that knowledge to gift our city with the most beautiful pastries you'll ever eat! Having personally sampled some of Europe's best bakeries, I can vouch that Brightside is remarkably comparable! The Cheesecake Streusel Danish is probably my top pick, a delicately textured yeasty swirl made of croissant dough with crispy gems of sugar streusel and a lusciously creamy cheesecake topping. I'd say it's easily one of the top three sugary items you'll find in Nashville! The Cinnaroll has always been the centerpiece of the menu since Borchers was peddling pastries at the Farmers Market in nearby Richland Park a decade ago. And this soft, elegant brioche with cinnamon and brown sugar is spectacular! The Sunshine Roll is also highly recommended, a cinnamon roll of sorts (made of croissant dough) coated with sugar and the subtle essence of orange zest! Honestly, you cannot go wrong at Brightside! Order anything and you'll be amazed! But items go fast, so it's wise to preorder on their website the day before!

Yelp
Pastries were just heavenly. I wanted to try them all. Service was quick and helpful, as the person at the counter explained each thing I was interested in. Cute little bakery! Worth finding
google avatar

Yelp
Pastries were great but if you are looking for a dine in/coffee kinda of place this is not it. No public bathrooms either. When we went they did not have bottled water. This spot is really designed for to go only.

Yelp
Food 5/5 Service 5/5: the ladies are welcoming, and they give good feedback on selecting the baked goods. Ambiance: 3/5 These bakery treats are DELICIOUS!!! Looking to satisfy your sweet tooth? Are you craving a decadent cookie or pastry? THIS IS YOUR PLACE.

Yelp
This place is a special gem in the Nations. They change the menu seasonally, though some staples remain. Everything is baked fresh with great quality ingredients. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend preordering on their website the evening before! The cinnamon rolls are their signature pastry, but honestly, everything I've tried there is great. The baklava croissant was my favorite of this month's specials. Lots of flakey layers and not too sweat. Overall, a great local business.

Yelp
I came in 2x this past weekend and I will be sure to return in the future. My girlfriend had heard about this place from one of her meetings that she had at school. She wanted me to try the chocolate croissant as it tasted good from her experience. So we went in and looked for the chocolate croissant, but it was all sold out. The only options available, were the Ube cookie, a regular croissant, the three cheese brioche and the breakfast strata. Feeling defeated, we started on our way back home. The staff was very nice and told us about the online ordering system. They said we can place an order after 1-2pm with a complete list of tomorrow's flavors. We waited until 2 and placed our order for the next day. When I arrived the following day, they even remembered my face and told me they were glad we had an opportunity to try it today! The chocolate croissant is amazing! It isn't too sweet and the layers are very flaky. The almond raspberry bear law and the Ube cookies are also delicious options to choose! I think this might be my new favorite pastry shop :)

Yelp
Yall.... I HAVE A NEW BAKERY TO LOOK FORWARD TOO!!!!! Yes, I was yelling! The pan aux raisin .... they play too much! Somebody's trying to get married again! Best believe I will be breaking my neck to go way to the west side and just order about six of those alone. And no, I'm not sharing! Moving forward and don't dare touch my pan aux raisin!!! My grandson devoured all of the custody part of his coconut custard pastry. Was too funny because he didn't even want to share the bread even though he didn't eat it. LOL, the chocolate croissant... I didn't eat until 3 days later. And it was still the bomb! I was not a fan of the cookie. However, my daughter devouted it. But who cares because they definitely have one pastry that will always be my favorite! Get ready to see me on Sundays people!

Yelp
This bakery is in a fairly suburban location next to a brewery with little to no overlap in operating hours, so it is quiet and an easy in and out. The spread looked marvelous. They had only one or two savory options that I wouldn't order and coffee but no other beverages. This was not a special diet kind of place either (not that you'd have trouble finding that niche filled somewhere in Nashville). However, grading solely on the quality of the sweet pastries I ordered, they were top notch, with complex fruit and spice flavors like Black Forest and Chai Pear. They were also moist and texturally pleasant, which is partly a credit to the new cooler I used to transport them, but will certainly reflect how they would taste if eaten fresh. And I would definitely recommend stopping in for a fresh pastry from here.

Yelp
We were in Nashville for the month of March and this place is so good that we ordered twice from them! Based on recommendations, we ordered the night before for a Sunday pick up. We got the Ham & Cheddar Brioche, Sausage & Cheddar Brioche and two specialty potato / chipotle brioche. Wow! The croissant aspects are delicious and so extremely filling. I ate the sausage and cheddar for breakfast, and I wasn't hungry for hours. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed the ham and cheddar. It's quite a large breakfast. The specialty potato / chipotle brioche is also very good - a tad less filling. All were good the next day, too - so definitely not a rush to eat right away. The 2nd time of orders were: Sausage and Cheddar Brioche, Lemon Poppy, and the Everything Croissants. My husband loved the Sausage and I loved the Lemon Poppy. We still liked the Everything, but compared to all the others, a little less so. But I think that is just a matter of preference. At first I was taken aback by paying $5 per item but for all much a single item filled you up - it's well worth it. I didn't realize the size at first when I ordered and the flaky goodness makes it all worth it. Simply Delicious!

Yelp
4 but plus seems easy. I was hungry, so I ate stuff cold. Plus, I got things before they closed. The cinnamon roll 5 The ham roll 4 The churro croissant 3 And those 3 items were all that was left also

Yelp
OMG!!!! This place was so cute!!! And the Cinnaroll Cheesecake thing was so dang delicious!!! The sweet person behind the counter was absolutely amazing!!!! We were getting our car fixed down the road and needed breakfast... 10 outta 10 would definitely go back!

Yelp
Brightside is still our go-to bakery on the west side. Their online ordering system makes it so seamless to order seasonal specials and favorite baked goods for Saturday morning pickup. I would definitely recommend putting your order in early as there is typically a line out the door on the weekends by 8am: their flavors are that on point. My absolute favorite is still their everything croissant tart. Imagine all the delectable goodness of an everything bagel smothered in cream cheese with the buttery lightness of a croissant. They recently released a French onion croissant claw pastry that we devoured in mere moments: rich, decadent, and wonderfully sweet yet savory. If you have a sweet tooth, you will definitely find a treat here. My tried and true is still the cheesecake danish, but I love trying out all their seasonal goodies, most recently a baklava style croissant. Honestly, the innovation never ends here. Parking is limited in the lot, but there's plenty of street parking. The staff is beyond efficient and kind. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Love everything they make. I tend to preorder the day before so ai can just run in and grab my box. Everything is delicious and it's a go to breakfast treat for when folks visit from out of town.
google avatar

Nicole T.

Yelp
I've found yet another good bakery here in Nashville! I came across Brightside on social media and made a mental note that I wanted to try them out for a quick breakfast on the weekend. I got that chance, and ordered the ham and cheddar brioche and my boyfriend got the sausage and cheddar brioche. Mine was good, but a tad doughy on the inside. I had some of his sausage and next time I would definitely get that! They are pretty large and 1 will definitely fill you up. Inside the bake shop was rows of other baked good that looked delicious. Next time I'll be sure to come back with a sweet tooth!

Yelp
Seen this place on crossroad tennessee recently so had to try it on the west side ..was really good (called a cinnamon roll). Friendly staff , thanks
google avatar

Yelp
The key lime tart croissants were out of this world. Can't wait to go back and try more items. Also there pickup process could not be easier!
google avatar

Brandon P.

Yelp
Amazing bake shop hidden in a nice neighborhood. Since moving to Nashville, I admit I try to grab something from here each week. From the prosciutto Gruyère croissant to the sunshine roll, make sure to preorder or wake up early because they sell out fast due to the popularity and quality of these items. The staff are super welcoming and have your orders ready to go or are able to help you with an order when you get there. Can't live in Nashville without going here!

Dawn W.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast items that equals to the pastries I've had in Europe! The service is always amazing. Always order ahead, if you can!

Kristen C.

Yelp
By far, our favorite breakfast spot/bakery in Nashville. There's nothing like it, and we look forward to the new flavors each month. Love the weekend stratas, cheesecake danish, and monthly specials.
google avatar

Irene L.

Yelp
I was in the mood for a cheese danish, as I had been watching Gilmore Girls, and came across this bakeshop on Yelp. After peering at the reviews, I decided to order ahead a cinnaroll. It was recommended to order ahead as they sell out quickly. I arrived two hours after they had opened, and the shop was pretty much sold out of everything. They had a cubby to the right with all their online orders, and I found my quite quickly. I also saw one more churro croissant, and bought it as destiny's sign to get it. I ate them both at home. The cinnaroll was delicious and moist inside, unlike other rolls that are dry in the middle. The cream cheese frosting was perfect. The churro croissant was amazing. I haven't had a croissant that good since I went to France. I'll be back soon, bringing my husband! Next time I'll actually get a cheese danish.
google avatar

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
Everything this shop makes is perfection. I started off getting there stuff from Red Bicycle and now I go straight to the source. Their curbside pickup in the West location is super easy. You order online, pull up to get your order, and someone brings out your stuff. I have tried a little of everything from their menu: three cheese, berry, sausage & cheese, s'mores. Sweet or savory, it is the best of the best.
google avatar

Shane S.

Yelp
This is only the second bakery I have visited where I have been impressed with the service, quality and where every item is delicious! The other one is in Portland Maine, so unless you're going on a trip this should be your only bakery you visit in the city. The absolute best gigantic chocolate chip cookies and the apple puff tart is a flaky buttery sin. I hate frittatas, but their take on the classic is to die for. This is a Nashville - must!
google avatar

Nick F.

Yelp
Consistently amazing pastries! Order ahead of time and make your life easier, but you can't go wrong with anything.
google avatar

Yelp
Creative and absolutely delicious croissants and other baked goods! Prosciutto Gruyere Croissant: 4/5 Loved the savory combo of prosciutto and gruyere cheese, and the croissant itself was perfectly buttery and flaky. Only wish that the prosciutto and gruyere cheese were distributed more evenly inside the croissant like the thyme, as the bites with prosciutto were overwhelming salty since it was rolled up on itself. Carrot Cake Croissant: 4/5 Creative fusion of a classic dessert with a croissant. The almond frangipane and candied pecans contributed a great nutty flavor that was delicious in and of itself, but since this was advertised as a "carrot cake" croissant, I would have liked to have seen the candied carrot included within the croissant itself instead of only having a sliver on top. Ham and Mushroom Breakfast Strata: 5/5 Tasty savory bread pudding loaded with ham, mushrooms, onions, and gruyere. Would recommend warming it up in the oven or microwave before digging in. Caramel Pecan Sticky Bun: 5/5 I appreciated how this was stuffed full of pecans in addition to the pile of pecans on top. The brioche was soft as well, and the caramel delightful sticky and sweet.

Yelp
Tried going up here on opening day, but unfortunately I had gotten there too late and they were already sold out of everything within a couple hours :( Luckily I was very devoted to get something ASAP and went in the next morning to get some stuff. I got the Sunshine Roll, Cinnaroll, and a cranberry and Brie cheese tart and wow! It was so freaking good. I was only planning on eating the sunshine roll, but it was so good that I had the Cinnaroll at the same sitting... whoops. Stop by sometime for sure! Be sure to go early since they run out of stuff fast!
google avatar

Beth W.

Yelp
I had been dying to try this place. When I passed it for the 87th time I had to stop. It was the end of their day and not much was left. However I snagged the very last cinnamon roll. Even after sitting out all day or just a few hours it was the best damn cinnamon roll I've ever tasted! The icing was pure perfection and it was still soft and moist. This place gives me a reason to get up early. 20/10 would recommend.
google avatar

Zara K.

Yelp
I love pastries and am so glad Brightside exists. The croissants are the best I have had in Nashville and are reminiscent of the ones I have had in Paris. The layers are beautiful, the flavor is so delicate and light. The chocolate croissant and the chocolate almond croissant are delicious. Even the savory bakes are amazing. The potato gruyere croissant and the everything croissant are great. Haven't had the chance to try the three cheese brioche one, but that is next on my list. Due to covid, they are only operating as a pick up service. So you have to order online and then pick it up. Their orders for next day open at 3:00 pm. Would highly recommend ordering ahead of time because these buttery-goodness babies get sold out.
google avatar

Krislyn P.

Yelp
Bright side truly brightened ;) my day. The cheesecake danish was SO good! Plenty of parking and nice outdoor seating. I love that they have both sweet and savory bakery items!!

K M.

Yelp
Creative monthly specials and excellent pastries on their regular rotation. Sweet, savory-- something for everyone. We visit at least once a month and bring all our out of town friends here.

Yelp
Tha absolute BEST bakery in Nashville! Fight me! Lol just kidding. Friendly bakers and staff. They say hello and good morning to everyone. Thay make you feel like youre loved and appreciated and not just another customer. Their baked good are the FRESHEST IN THE LAND! I adore everything they make!
google avatar

Rach S.

Yelp
I have been here once and got 2 chocolate croissants. The croissants were awesome. They are open during Covid and I went to the Indiana Ave location. They are only open for specific hours and days of the week so be sure to check. You must order online as you are not allowed in during these Covid times. A person came from inside and let me know what was left of the baked goods. They seem to sell out quickly so get there early.

Zachary B.

Yelp
I am a foodie. We have some pretty amazing, small businesses that make spectacular food with a lot of love and dedication to the authenticity of what they create here in Nashville. This is one of the best of those businesses. Croissants that are light, buttery, taste heavenly, and leave you feeling satisfied afterwards. Are these the best croissants and pastries that I've ever eaten? Honestly, yes I think they are. PS. Order ahead the night before and pick up your order to get exactly what you want or get there early. They go fast in the morning!
google avatar

Jasmin V.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to try this place and let me tell you it did not disappoint. Their pastries are so fresh and delicious! We are very pleased and will be returning to try other things. Cute, small spot with a variety of freshly baked pastries.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
When extended work-from-home hit, Brightside Bakeshop became the bright spot in my weekend routine. Now, I look forward to ordering online the night before, picking a mix of favorites and sometimes trying the seasonal specials. I love that BB knocks it out of the park with both savory and sweet pastries, so there's something to please everyone! My favorite savory pastry is the sausage and cheddar brioche, which I heat up in the microwave at home and pair with an over-easy egg for a filling, tasty breakfast. On the sweet side, I favor the classic cinnaroll as well as the seasonal s'mores brioche. Tip: While I usually come to this West location, occasionally when it's sold out of my favorites I'll go to the East location instead! :)

Gary F.

Yelp
Poor hours are my only criticism. Seems like required pre-ordering night before is inconvenient.

Eric O.

Yelp
Not entirely sure I want to post this, but it seems like the word is already out. This place is by FAR the best bakery I've ever been to. Like I honestly don't understand how food can be this delicious. Everything sweet, everything savory, it all hits every note. The everything croissant tart is arguably better than a hand rolled/ boiled bagel and CC. If calories didn't count, I don't think a day would go by that I wouldn't eat something from here. A truly special place.

Molly B.

Yelp
Uh oh! I am in trouble! This place is 10 minutes from me and it will be hard to talk myself out of going frequently. The care they put into their treats is evident in the first bite!! Flaky deliciousness. The cinaroll is the best I have ever had. The perfect balance of cinnamon sweetness without over doing it. The chocolate croissant is divine. Sunshine roll...equally good. Don't hesitate to try this place out! You will not regret it! Although your waistline might!

Yelp
That kouign aman, 3 cheese brioche & the cheesecake streusel danish was superb. Order online the day before; pick up is easy

Holly M.

Yelp
absolutely so good i was visiting Nashville from Mississippi for a concert and love trying small businesses and bakeries, I got the churro croissant 10/10 would come here again thank you!
google avatar

Allison U.

Yelp
This is absolutely the best bakery in town and one of the best bakeries I have ever tried. The regular menu is delicious, I especially love the cheesecake strudel danish and the everything bagel croissant tart, and there are always creative, fresh weekly specials. A great mix of savory and sweet options. The perfect way to spend a Saturday morning is a walk over to brightside to pick up a box of pastries to take home and share. The staff is always friendly and smiling and the online ordering and pickup process is flawless. We love brightside !!

Larry S.

Yelp
Mmmmmaazing. It's a wonderful feeling not to be disappointed. This place is the real deal. I got there first thing Sat. morning (8a.) and took home six different things, both sweet and savory. Every one of them was so delicious with just the right blend of tastiness. I thought I might be underwhelmed by the cinnamon roll but I was not. It was perfect. I must say I was bummed that they had not made the sticky buns for the weekend. But next time!! You can't go wrong here.

Yelp
Short story....this place is all that plus chips. This massively instagrammable bakery out of The Nations has caught my eye for months now. Nashville is great at all kinds of things but croissants is not one of them. At least until now. Brightside knocks us out of the park with buttery flaky crunchy delicious options. I highly recommend the ham and cheese croissant and for a fun time the $16 mystery box where they give you an assortment of things to nibble on. Our mystery box came with a raspberry cream cheese (?) danish and three croissants. All were delicious. Ordering and pick up or surprisingly easy. In fact, I would argue this is Ben the best curbside pickup experience I've had with any place that requires you to order a day in advance. I placed our order around 10:00 at night and almost everything was still in stock and picked it up when brightside open at 8:00 a.m. They delivered things right to my car as I pulled up and even though it was outdoor service they were wearing a mask which I totally respect. Well the double chocolate croissant is the Instagramable hero, I got to recommend that you go with the ham and gruyere croissant for buttery salty deliciousness.

Susan M.

Yelp
Get there when they first open in order to have a selection or preorder, and if you have a gift card, do not assume it works with just your phone number, as I was led to believe by the "square" website. I was also hoping for better coffee. Maybe I was disappointed by both the lack of selection and the issue with the gift card but not worth the trouble if you have to travel to get there.

Kevin L.

Yelp
If you want to find a Parisian croissant in Nashville, this is your place. They have savory and sweet croissants that will make you drool when you walk in. They have new and rotating flavors every few weeks, and cool bakers like Kay will remember your name and chat with you.
google avatar

Erin J.

Yelp
This place is always consistent and amazing. I love it. My favorite is the chocolate almond croissant. It's only available on weekends, but it is the best chocolate almond croissant I've ever had. The pastries are BIG, so be prepared to have a stomach ache (in a good way), or just have a few bites of each instead. Support a local, small business... and you can thank me later! Go go go!
google avatar

Jody C.

Yelp
This place is SO good. Look no further for the best pastries in town. Very little seating inside, but don't let you stop you. Trust me, your tastebuds will thank you!

No head-sized muffins, no $8 cronut nonsense, just excellent croissants and brioche pastries, in savory and sweet formats. I would give them 6 stars if they started selling high-quality cookies. They also sell coffee drinks, but those just reduce the stomach space available for pastry, so screw that.

Yelp
Went this morning during the soft opening (officially opening in January) and got the Sausage and Cheese Brioche and it was FANTASTIC. I should have taken a pic of it but dived in before thinking about it. The bake shop is clean and bright and you can clearly see the action of them baking away which is a nice added bonus.
